"POWER TO THE PEOPLE" john lennon

A million workers working for nothing
You better give them what their really owed

The continuing saga of Painesville Power

We at one time or another we have heard about the PJM auction?
Well at this years auction gas-fired power plants added over 5,000 megawatts of new power. Plus also added were hundreds of megawatts of new solar and wind in the biding process.
One megawatt of power is enough to supply between 800 to a 1000 homes)

So where does this leave coal as well as Painesville's Energy contracts?

In the end the auction showed that PJM will have more than enough power, with a 22% reserve for the future. And that it will be less expensive.
For MOST customers that will mean lower prices. But what about Painesville residents? Well he have our 30/40 contract with Prairie State, also another contact with AMP-OHIO for power until 2020 at $69.00 megawatt. Lets not forget the Ohio River hydro power our now most expensive source. Don't expect rate cut's for Painesville residents in the near future?

Coal we are now being told coal  and nuclear will be competitive again. That's great competitive by 2019? We were told coal would be competitive in 2012? I guess the best plan is to push the coal date out every few years?

So before all this what was the plan? First Energy went before the Ohio PUCO for a rate increase to protect customers from what's ahead in 2019, by saving their coal plants from extinction. This would have added to the cost  the average residential customer an increase of up to $100 dollars a year more for the next eight years.
Saved by the Bell? The federal authorities object to a key part of the agreement. So it's back to square one for the energy companies as well as the PUCO.

I guess it's hard to claim price volatility with a reserve margin of 22%?

So in the end it's simply Painesville is on the inside looking out , and within a short time Painesville Power will soon be Painesville Premium Power. For no other reason than taking poor premium advice.

PJM*?  Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland an electrical internal connection for 12 states and D.C to balance power through those states

By now everyone has heard about the Gorilla being shot to death when a four year old child fell  into his area.
The outcry of people who are sympatric  to this gorilla amazes me. Maybe we have all watched to many Disney movies? This was a wild animal that let's face it was in a cage for a reason. People want the parent's charged? Any parent can speak on how quickly four year olds can disappear. The zoo's claimed the gorilla was in a secure and contained area? So secure a four year old beat the security. Look I'm the first to agree this was an event that shouldn't happen but what if the child were dead today? Take a deep breathe people it could have ended worse. A friend railed againt the mother and the 'execution' of the gorilla. I questioned if this child had fallen into a  Anaconda pit should the snake have been killed? Absolutely! I guess it's time for Disney to make a fun and friendly Anaconda movie? The Boa already has a bad rap over the Jungle Boy movie.

What if had been Magilla Gorilla?

The authorities did the correct thing by shooting the gorilla....however, the child's parents should still be held responsible for him getting into the exhibit. If the parents aren't able to keep track of their offspring, perhaps they shouldn't go to places like zoos; they definitely shouldn't have any more kids. I wouldn't be surprised if the parents end up suing the zoo for not doing a better job of kid-proofing the gorilla exhibit.

As for the information about Painesville residents paying premium rates for electricity, I'm not shocked!

Hey TERM. Want to talk about the Vrooman Road bridge project?

4:18 This wasn't a plan by a 4 year-old to break into the Gorilla enclosure. I can tell you children that age can slip away very quickly. Didn't any other responsible adult see what he was doing? Yes we will in the end blame everyone. If a 4 year-old broke the zoo's security there's a good chance they should be held responsible. A child at that age pretty much knows no fear. It's tragic but a human life was at stake.
Glad your following this electric debate.
6:33 First Magilla (1963) now Grape Ape (1975) seems we are older than I thought?
5:21 Have no clue what's going on there?

5:21 and Term,
The answer about Vrooman Rd is NOTHING is going on.
The story I got is that the County was to do it BUT it was far too big a project for them.
ODOT took it over but all the EPA type permits (Corps of Engineers, whatever) were not applied for or proper so it all stopped.
In the mean time we have a one lane bridge with no hope of getting that fixed plus there is zero maintenance being done to the road.
Bottom line is so typical government. Everything is SNAFU, it costs the tax payers many, time, and inconvenience and not one person will ever be held accountable.
Someone (or many people) should lose their jobs over this.

They had to stop construction because the fed is holding up the required permit.

4:18 here,

You're right; the child didn't plan to break into the gorilla exhibit, but a parent should anticipate anything, especially in a public setting. Doesn't matter if it's the zoo, the grocery store, or anywhere else. If a parent can't do that, he/she shouldn't be a parent. Yes, things happen, and no one's perfect, but if there's a place/time when a parent should be most alert and vigilant, it's in places like the zoo, airport, or mall. This goes beyond what happened at the zoo, though; I see parents not concentrating on what their kids are doing just about anywhere I go these days. I don't know if it's more prevalent than when you and I were the kid's age, but I suspect it is, if only because there's a lot of young adults who grew up with ADD and other similar conditions that negatively affected their attention span. The MTV generation are now parents, so I'm not surprised that some of them continue to have trouble paying attention.

As for me following the electrical debate, I only know what info you've provided over the years. When I wrote that I wasn't shocked, not only was it a bad electrical pun, it was also a comment on what faith I have in our city government to do the right thing - which is to say, no faith at all. They screwed up the "new" fire engine purchase, selecting streets paid by the road levy, the trash contract; they are more than capable of screwing up how much we pay for electricity. Since there's a trend here, I won't be surprised if the new water supply intake project goes way over budget. At least the city can operate bathtub races efficiently, however, so there's that.

6:14 Maybe they should and at the same time believe that the zoo has adequate measures for a situation like this. You might be right but at the sane time it looks as though the parent hadn't left the child there and went to another exhibit. None of those people witnessed that child trying to get in?
As far as the running of the city who on council have we ever held accountable? Their running the show. I think?

The bridge is a typical government boondoggle. Nobody really wanted it, and there was no need for it, but County Engineer wanted to get his name on a plaque, so the County mo Ed forward on what will end up being a $50 million project, of it ever gets done. Meanwhile the taxpayers of Lake County are being sued by the contractor, and it takes forever to get over the bridge. In addition to some government officials being held accountable, the truck driver that ignored signs and drove over the bridge (nearly 2 years ago) ought to have a class action suit filed against him for all the delays he's caused everyone. At the time, the County was saying that it would be replaced by a military type bridge. Instead, to punish everyone, they just the barriers on there so only one lane could go through. This whole situation is out of hand, and a simple low bridge should have been built from the start, avoiding this whole situation, and saving the taxpayers tens of millions.
