"BACK IN THE U.S.S.R" beatles

Man I had a dreadful flight (night)
I'm back in the U.S.S.R.

You know you have to be a masochist to sit through some of these council meetings?
That was the case Monday night.

Legislation;
The ordinance to increase funding to the DPO was left on second reading. Must decide at July meeting.

Resolutions both passed Phase II  includes State St. paving from Chester to Elm St. Levan St. and a few others.
As well as bathrooms down in Recreation Park.

Myself and another lady question 'new' cemetery procedures. We were told they are not new just being enforced due to a new director as well as they are not new just being enforced.
Later Parks and Recreation Director Michelle LaPuma explained in her presentation that items like solar lights would add to vandalism in our cemeteries? Also Rosary beads could damage or  could injure  equipment or employee's.   Also the lady that questioned in a phone call to the department to not only the removal of her angel but she found it broken at the cemetery garage. She was told that the cemeteries were beginning to take on a "Carnival Atmosphere?" and these changes were needed. My suggestion if you have anything questionable go out and collect it before the city sends an electric plant worker with nothing to do to remove it.

The Housing Task Force see no changes needed. for the Vacant Property Ordinance. BUT.....suggests the city use their meter reader's to identify and report possible vacant property. The city will check utility usage and if they find it low. Will send the property owner a postcard asking for an explanation?  So I guess they might want to know if your "shacking" up with a boyfriend or girlfriend? Only paying bills, taxes cutting grass as well as just doing your wash a home because she or he won't do it? Talk about over reach!
Wonder if those same meter readers will report excessive utility use? High electric, water say four or more families living in a structure? five cars parked on the lawn or other out of the ordinary items?
Wonder if Aqua Ohio or First Energy provides this service to Mentor or Willoughby. Remember these city utilities are to act as separate entities?

Sidewalks God help us! Over 30 minutes on sidewalks it was unbelievable. First off to sell your home in starting in 2017 your sidewalk must pass city mustard. Then in 2019 we are bringing back a blast from the Past! Agent Orange to X-O sidewalks in all wards. I suggest to be politically correct he will be marking in green. Green Meany. Another job for a electric plant worker who has free time on their hands? Council suggested the cost of a new cement sidewalk block would cost $150.00? Have any of you ever called for a cement truck?

This council brings new meaning to the term "Nero fiddled while Rome burned"

Speak of burning, as promised home sale prices in the PCLS district;

Elm St.            $31,500.
Ridgelawn      $60,000.
W. Jackson     $63,770.
Stockwell         $19,000.
N. St. Clair      $18,000
Chestnut St.    $92,900

Now exactly how strong is that loyalty to a Trump  surrogate ?

Nero left town a LONG time ago. Since then we have had a few City managers.

I guess I am amazed that Council and/or the Administration thinks the home owners should repair or replace sidewalks when they (Council) have allowed the roads to get where we are today. Talk about hypocrites!

Just how can the city TELL homeowners they have to repair their sidewalks when they are in violation themselves? Went through this years ago and HAD to repair or else the city would send someone to do it and send you the bill. Hmmmm? They must feel if someone falls on their properties they have enough insurance to cover the injury? More do as I say not as I do.

Of course sale prices are that low. Why would anyone want to move to Painesville with this kind of nonsense going on? Now the City is essentially spying on everyone. What if you go down to Florida for a few months in the winter, now you need to inform the government??? Is this the Painesville watchlist?

3:25 Yes and the rubbish hauler also
what do you think you are, a gun?

11:57 By ordinances passed by a council YOU elected.

11:30 The buyer was Avery-Dennison, enough said. I don't think they plan to occupy this property.

11:29 Really, your not surprised are you? That $28,000 they drop in that money pit downtown would fix many sidewalk's yearly. To the benefit of many!

Well maybe the city should stop planting maples and locust trees on tree lawns! The roots on those trees will force the home owner to replace the sidewalk. When the contractor shows up to replace the sidewalk, he cuts half the roots off the tree, ultimately killing the tree and allowing it to topple. Why would the city plant trees that grow to 35 -40 feet on a 4 or 5 foot piece of ground with sewers, water lines, gas lines etc. The home owner is left with this conundrum. No sense and makes me wonder if the city is in cahoots with the cement contractors, nurserys and anybody but the resident!

Term,
This is 11:30 and that makes sense. Too bad nothing else in that area will bring that sort of money.

Sorry, you cant blame the city officials I elected. As a child growing up in Painesville, my parents were confronted with this same dilemma. This was almost 40 years ago and I'm sure those elected officials are long gone and have nothing to do with the council people of today. Why the gap in years to bring this back around? Or is this like the cemeteries? Always an issue that needed taken care of, just a blind eye till now?

FYI, William Horvath, longtime City Councilman, passed away last night. Sad day for Painesville.

Also as soon as I can verify the sad news sent to the blog. I will post it.

$150.00 per square to replace the sidewalk?! This city is just all about the citizens, isn't it?

Also, as of yesterday, the city is saying that the only place bag customers for the garbage service can buy bags is at City Hall. So if you can't make it to City Hall during their limited hours, I guess you can't have bag service. You've always been able to buy them at Redi-Go before, but they're saying not any more. Does ANYONE running this city care about the citizens? Anyone?

Term, the above is true, but does not paint the complete picture. The following properties all sold in the last 60 days.

Meriden $188,000
Homewood $150,606
Rivers Edge $201,000
Beacon $123,500
Southington $118,000 and $110,000

Painesville's real estate market is not all gloom and doom.

Mrs. Howlett I will not pick and choose. The last two weeks are from property sales in Painesville in the News-Herald. The only ones I segregate are properties in Painesville that are in the Riverside School District.
I am heartened to see your numbers, and for at least a couple of months I will print all sales good and bad.

2:26 I was unaware of people being able to purchase bags at Redi-Go? Someday I will tell you a cute story of selling those bags!

I called City Hall and, yes, they intend to only sell the bags there, no matter if people can make it there during their restricted hours or not. I asked to speak to someone else about it, and was told to call a certain person at Public Works. I intended to tell them that this arrangement was unacceptable and to plead the case for continuing to sell them at Redi-Go, like they always have. That person never got on the phone, and never called me back. People running this city have absolutely no idea that they are here to serve the people. Thanks for the disrespect Public Works person, and thanks for the disregard City of Painesville. I guess it's business as usual, which means nobody cares what's right for the citizens.

Things are pretty dead around here presently.
