"CAN'T GET NO SATISFACTION" rolling stones
Before we get to this latest post let me explain a situation where Painesville might have dodged another bullet today. At approximately 9:45 AM this morning a westbound Norfolk Southern stacktrain was crossing over the Chestnut St. crossing. One of those two mile long trains. On the Northside of the tracks two Painesville Fire Department fire engines were waiting for the train to finish blocking the street. A pumper as well as the Tower engine. As it waited I wondered where they were going? Didn't have to wait long they were responding to a call from Chestnut St. Elementary. I am happy to tell you both trucks were on the way back to the station by 10:00 AM. Many will claim no harm no foul. That's this time. Can you imagine the blood pressure of those firefighter's as they waited for that train to pass? Whomever chose to build those two new schools south of the railroad tracks we can only hope our luck doesn't ever run out! Just realized today is Friday the 13th.

About some useless information
Supposed to drive my imagination
I guess TERM>> just can never be satisfied? I look at the new refuse contract and I see only two things, an average of saving of about $50.00 a year and at the end of the contract in seven years still being cheaper than what we are presently paying.
Many of you have relayed your dissatisfaction with this new contract? No community involvement for one. As well as hearing from resident's that there is nothing in the refuse ordinance that forces them to pay for recycling? It should be an option not forced upon them.
Yard waste every two weeks seems to also be a big issue to some?
Also to our many elderly resident's the bag price structure seems to be out of whack? Could it be due to the extra paperwork evolved?
Looking back over Waste Management as well as Republics bids. If you include the bag charge structure and if there are 350 resident's that use the bag service. It appears the Waste Management bid is better OVERALL for our community?
Did WM pull a fast one? Many times in a bidding process you will take a product or service that is rarely used and give it an unbelievable price? Such as the bag service? WM as well as the City know how man bags are purchased every year.
I guess my concern is I'm happy to see a reduction in my cost, but that 80 year-old resident should somehow reap a benefit also.
This plus the fact can anything be done at this late of a date?

Many people will complain that when you hand them a $100 bill, it isn't new.
I have to wonder how any of those people actually called their Council person or made a statement at a Council meeting.
From what I can tell, we came out better this time.
I have a child at Chestnut and another at Heritage. It's very upsetting but it seems no one but you are aware of this situation?
12:32 Lot better
5:10 I have no reason to lie to you?
The complaining on this board is so lame. The city needs $$$ to run. It must extract $$$ from the residents one way or another. If the refuse contract says no individual bills for city entities, so what. That changes nothing. Its TOTAL $$$ in vs. TOTAL $$$ out. Very simple.
If someone is stealing, or bribing or outright wasting, tell me about THAT! All this rabblerousing for ones personal satisfaction or ego boosting is tiring.

Are you really that out of touch with reality?
You are correct in saying that a city needs money to operate.
However, when the money is obtained through means that are "secretive", that is a different issue.
The $96K kickback was never known or talked about until the last year of the current contract. The City certainly didn't want it known as evidenced by the fact that most Council members were not aware of it. As has been stated before, when the City DEMANDS that we use a particular provider and that provider then kicks money back to the City, that is an un-voted tax. That is a bribe and that is a problem.
I would ask you, if the City Electric Dept monies can not be used for any purpose other that electric related things, why should the tax payers pay for their trash collection? Tat money can not be used for the streets, sewers, or anything else. Why can't they be used to pay legitimate electric department bills?
You should like someone who has something to hide.
6:08 Sorry for being lame? Interesting thought "extract $$$ one way or another?" That was not the purpose of this contract, at least I hope not? First government's first responsibility is to live within it's means, not extracting dollars. The three business the city runs can not expect residents to pay for their garbage pick-up. Those businesses operate outside Painesville also. Do Concord resident's pay for refuse pick-up at the Painesville water plant? That said if this contract is now "on the books" I suggest the three utilities subsidize our elderly bag residents $10.00 on each 5 bag purchased? Won't happen the people running this place care very little about those elderly residents. Pretty plants downtown and bath tub races is what we're about. The city must in the end show full financial disclosure for all spending. An example, last week I drove past the Electric plant. They were sprucing the place up trimming hedges and mulching around the fences by the water tower's. Now is there is any city that should have plenty of mulch it's Painesville. We have a chipper as well as a truck to haul it in. But no there were at least 100 bags of mulch purchased to do the job. WASTE! First off if our refuse rates go down $5.00 a month I'm happy. there is no personal satisfaction or ego at work here. Just knowing something finally was done right, I hope! As of yet I have not read the contract. Please go back to your desk at city hall and try to accomplish something positive today!
6:08 when I asked for the "Amended Contract" I only shared the knowledge with one person. At a Town Hall Meeting a representative for WM was in attendance to discuss Recycling. At the end of his presentation he asked if there were any questions? I put up my hand and asked "Can you explain this $48,000 you are giving the city for years 2014/2015?"
There were two council people in the room and the representative asked one "Do you want me to discuss this here or have this discussion at your council meeting?"
My thoughts are overall WM has the better refuse offer but this administration wants to separate itself from the company over this $96,000 issue. Someone photo shopped a WM Dumpster on another Painesville site with the dumpster filled with money! Not something to be proud of,I guess?
I was in attendance at the town hall meeting that Term refers to and I can state that what he wrote is exactly what happened.
At least one of the Council members was rather surprised by what they heard.
6:08 I understand your point. The city needs money to function. The taxpayers want services. The people with all the Vote NO signs are the people complaining about everything, voting no, encouraging others to vote no and then want even more services. Something realistic needs to be done here. We need development that works to get businesses here to help our tax base. We need people living here to pay taxes not being paid under the table and living in basements. They are the ones that are a drain here - free everything but paying nothing.
Cant wait for council tonight. I wanna see Term light the place up with his complaints about the trains today and his past complaints. Will anyone give a care? Did Hanlon/Beeler care when they stationed the new schools cut off from emergency vehicles? Nope. Did the taxpayers vote for new schools without getting the entire picture first? Yep. Sorry you cant blame the city for this mess. Maybe for allowing new homes to pop up but not the schools being built. Remember when Harvey was thought to be built in Heisley Park? No one wanted it there either. Put the blame where it should be.
