"CRUMBLIN' DOWN" john mellencamp

When the walls come Tumblin' down
Crumblin Crumblin' Down

Lots more happened at Mondays council meeting

City Engineer Leanne Exum told us the resurfacing of N. State   St.  from E. Erie to Chester/ Storr St. will begin this April 11,2016.

She also provided a bleak story about the Bank St. retaining walls all  of them.
The total cost of this project is in the amount of $5,000,000 yes that's millions.

Wall #3 needs immediate repair to the cost of $680,000
Wall #1 and #2 within two years at a cost of $490,000
Wall #6 and #7 within 5 to 10 years at a cost of $3,580,00
Wall #4                         in the future at a cost of  $250,000

This doesn't even take in the Main St. walls.

Also soon our city must decide on what the future of our Parking Garage will be?

Construction on the Cedarbrook Basin will be halted until late May or June to give the area time to dry out.

Have not received permits for the Maplewood Basin even the Army Corp. of Engineers hasn't signed off on this project. Both projects total over 2 million dollars.

Farewell to the "Okie From Muskogee" R.I. P. Merle!

I have no idea how bad the bank on Bank St might be but maybe an idea might be to close it off with access to residents only? The part of it that seems to get the most attention is near the intersection with State St. There would seem too be very minimal impact on the homes if the road was closed.
Just a thought.

1:50 I remember hearing your suggestion a couple of months ago?
This is what 20 years of neglect gets you?

Bank street East of walnut starts out with a sinking manhole right at the intersection, then begins the crumbling rough ride, punctuated by a less than stellar grading of the RR crossing. State St. East of Walnut is much smoother and has a better RR grade. Maybe because its part of official Rt. 84??

Over sized semis have destroyed both S State St and Bank streets. The amount of damage they have done, over the years, is nothing short of amazing. State St is caving in (sewers) and Bank St is falling down.

Another issue caused by 53' trailers is the curb damage they cause. The City intersections weber never designed with trailers this length in mind. Think about that the next time you are at an intersection anyplace in the City and watch a semi have to go over the curb to make the turn.

I am a little confused by what you write.
Neither Bank or State St can be east of Walnut because they run north and south. I am guessing you mean south of Walnut?
If that is the case, you really need to look at State St, south of Walnut, again. If that is your idea of better of "smoother", I am afraid we don't agree at all. The road is caving in especially in the are of 496 to 502 S State St.
As to it being a State route, there is NO maintenance performed on it (or any plowing) by State crews. It might be slightly better than Bank St but it sure is not because of ODOT.

All I will add here is that presently our governor is running around the country claiming to have built a 2 billion dollar 'Rainy Day Fund'? Well gov. maybe it's time to fix some of those rainy day problems we have? I am positive a city with 20,000 residents can not solve this on our own?

Term,
Not a bad idea but will anyone in our City approach the Governor with this plan? I would HIGHLY doubt it. Furthermore, I would be stunned if it worked.
I would love to be wrong but time will tell.
As we all know, the Governor balanced the State budget and created a surplus on the backs of every City, Township, and School Board in this state.
Robbing Peter to pay Paul isn't exactly the same a actually balancing the budget. The projects that need funding did not go away but it did take away the ability of local government to do them.

TERM, 5:08 here. You are correct. I meant to say, West of Walnut. Restating, State Street West of Walnut is smoother than Bank West of walnut. And the RR grade is longer and smoother.

5:08 again. I was thinking of West bound Rt 84 and got confused. Sorry.
