"MONEY FOR NOTHING" dire straits
I give our Painesville leadership kudos when it comes to running and generating revenue for our city nothing beats our electrical company. Someone must have been taken notes at those AMP-OHIO meeting?
A resident explained another new money stream for our beloved city. Seems this resident wanted power turned on to a property they owned when the city's electric showed up to reconnect the power they found a meter that was broken . Rusted, old but not damaged by the property owner. So the power was not restored. The owner was told the city would provide the parts to be replaced, but the homeowner had to hire a licensed contractor, who need a permit to repair the meter and then they would come out to inspect the work? Now the power company owns the wires owns the pole as well as the meters and yet YOU are responsible for the meter? This is not the way First Energy operates they don't want outside contractor screwing around with their meters.
I have always been told if its on the outside of your house it was the power companies responsibility.
What responsibility would I have to the meter/ I understand if by neglect I damaged it I would be responsible but normal wear and tear?
Maybe someone could chime in and offer a reasonable explanation?
Oh, when one door OPENS another one CLOSES?
Seems accorded to Fridays Headline in the News- Herald 06/25/15 our County Auditor Edward Zupanic doesn't want to be in the rubbish collection fee business.
According to the Ohio Attorney Generals office, The Auditor does not have express power to certify.
Somehow all along I believed this practice was outside normal law. Well Council now you must find another way to get Waste MisManagement to hand over $48,000 to your coffers.
RUMORS
A Dollar Tree Store is planning to move into the old CVS building at E. Washington and S. St. Clair St.
N. State St. between E. Erie (RT20) and Chester St. will be resurfaced this summer.

I think a valid question to ask is, who benefits from the meter?
The utility (in this case the City) or the home owner?
IMO, whoever receives the benefit from the device should be responsible for the device.
Am I wrong in my thinking?
Imagine that, the County Auditor doesn't want to be involved in the garbage billing for the City!! Who would have seen that coming?
And I see we have another new business beside the Dollar Tree! Ken's gun supply! Right next to the barbershop and cute little dress shop, on the Main Street hill for all residents needing to reload. A town this small with three gun suppliers....... And still no grocery store. Hmmmmm.
Has it already been 500 years? Water, flooding streets, flooded basements, yards and streets underwater. Hmmm , seems we had some surveys, spoke up about how sick and tired we are of this, paid additional money for this to get better. How's that working? IT AIN'T.
Sandy, It must be more important to 'Lock and Load' then to cook and eat? in Painesville?
12:09 Whatever are you talking about? I picked up our Sunday paper for $1.75 this morning and there was absolutely no mention of any storm let alone flooding anywhere? Vactor must have been running around Painesville for kicks Saturday?
And no mention of the house somewhere nearby that some idiot painted "No Ni***rs on the garage door?
Does this mean we can lock, load and shoot dinner? Seems the direction the city would like us to go.....:)
Looked for both those stories this morning and nothing..... It's not really a "News" paper.
Funniest story about Painesville Electric Meters. The infamous Bob Gibbs owed a cell tower, Painesville put meters on the cell towers for different users. Bob seen the meters had his employee's take them down and load them in his truck and delivered them back to the electric department with a warning don't go on my property without permission.

I have heard a lot of Gibbs stories over the years but that is a new one to me.
Question for you (if it is true), how did he think he was going to get power back to the towers?
BTW, those towers have stories of their own. He was pretty good at skirting the laws and rules. Too bad he was such a jerk as a person.
You must not live in the Cedarbrook area. Cones across Cedarbrook where it always floods (no water problems here) the intersection of Chestnut and Cedarbrook were flooded almost up to Atwells (no water problems here either)
Thank you those doing the Sandy-what-ever-survey. We got a lot of improvement from spending more money for nothing.
2:45 According to the city work will be started next year. It seems the city has purchased property to the north of Cedarbrook and will expand the retention pond in that area.
12:59 The story is true.
retention ponds don't do jack, they put one on the huntington school property yet Hine ave still flooded with 40-50 percent of the homes between owego st and rotary park got water in their basements yesterday 06-27-15 . the problem is the drain pipes are only 8 inches wide (according to public works) this is not adequate, a neighboring property owner told me these were put in 1963 before this area was as developed as it is now, it needs upgraded to bigger pipes
How is the city allows building after building to,go and yet fails to improve the infrastructure of the area the new homes, businesses and schools tap into? Retention ponds around here don't seem to work. I have watched the retention pond on St Clair and agree it's nothing more than a hole in the ground.
Please update me. People here said Gibbs WAS...
Did he die, move?
I see a pile of dirt moved on a property he started on Rt. 84. Wondered why.
To Sandy Miller.
What's wrong with a Gun store in Painesville?
They can only sell guns to people who are lawfully qualified to own them.
And they must pass a check system run by the United States Government.
Lawful peaceful people can now protect themselves lawfully without the fear of ending up in prison.
What's wrong with that?
One word Infrastructure. I agree with the above, retention, detention pond-nothing more than mosquito breeding. There has been one behind old Cedarbrook school and there has been flooding for many years. Has anyone ever seen water in the middle school basin? I think there should be a stop to new building until piping, electricity and roads are up to par.
As a licensed electrical contractor, allow me to "illuminate" you. I believe you have posted misinformation. First, having worked in CEI territory, CPP territory, Ohio Edison territory, and Painesville, everywhere your have an overhead service to your house or building, the electric company maintains the wires up to the point of attachment to your building. The mast, weatherhead, meter base, and cables entering your building are your responsibility. The city more than likely found a rusted out meter base, which requires the services of a licensed electrician to replace. The electrical line workers are not electricians and are not qualified to do that work. If you want electricity, you need to comply with the state and national codes that the city uses.
Term,
A serious question when you go to council meetings...can you ask them if they are ever going to do something about the bums in the square. Yes I know it is a public place, but they congregate there because the city provides free wi-if. How they can access that on their devices is a whole different story. Anyway, what about just turning the wi-if on when there is an event there, like the car cruise, etc... What do you think? It is an eyesore....
10:07 Retention ponds that are not maintained fail. Agree with your comment, but don't expect much in the powers that be to think that way. Case in point Windmill Estates.
4:03 Yes you 'illuminated' me. I was remembering a time in the early eighties . Things have changed. I still believe ownership means 100% of responsibility. not just where something is attached. Oh, I think they are more than qualified, just another way to get permit money.
5:34 You answered your own question. It's a public place and if they are not intoxicated, panhandling, or causing a disturbance they have the legal right to be there. Also why do you want me to ask about the Wi-Fi you probably would get a better response than I would?
7:42 Old Bob is still with us just retired.
When I purchased my home in Painesville City decades ago, the city replaced my drop to the house with 100 amp service, the meter base and wired it into my new 100 amp box. All at no charge. I was very happy and have been a fan of PPP ever since. Great guys still work there I have found.
The Dollar store sells food - closest to a grocery store Painesville will ever have in its present day.
4:53 see 4:03? The past is the past.
Yes. The past is the past. They didn't have as many codes in the NEC back in the day. Trust me, with the current codes, Painesville's linemen are not qualified. They haven't had the proper training. Just like I haven't had the proper training for line work.
