"MANIC MONDAY" bangles

"What is it about Monday's around this town?"

Attended the Painesville School Board Meeting last night at Harvey. First of all to ask a question about last months meeting and guess what I heard about?

Let's say Judge Karen Lawson seems to be having a "situation" between the city administration and now the city school administration.  This time I'm 100% behind her.

On May 27, 2015 the school Superintendent sent a letter to the judge that as of May 28, 2015 the Painesville City School District will no longer have teachers at the Juvenile Detention Center.

"Now the Rub"

The way the Painesville School Board found out about this decision was from a letter sent to them by way of Judge Lawson? There was no discussion between the school board and the administration on the change. No negotiations between the administration and the Juvenile Court system . As well as the County.

As one member of the board mentioned this action was "unprofessional" and I agreed. The administration broke no laws or contracts only that Painesville City Schools have had a non-contract agreement for over thirty years.

I am sure this was done for economical reasons and I understand that. Other school districts are to compensate Painesville Schools for the education of outside students.

This whole situation reminds me of Lebron James leaving Cleveland five years ago. Understood why he left, just not  the way that it was done.

In picking a new superintendent a few years ago people expressed their desire for more not less transparency, seems the last few months have proved we have received less.

The school board should explain that when decisions like this are made they should be informed by the administration not from a letter or a news release.

My questioned I asked was why does the administration need a position of curriculum advisor for teachers? All along I thought that was a Principal? How much overlapping of responsibility do we presently have in our administration. I guess my thinking is this position worth the price of two frontline teachers, as well as most having Master Degrees need an advisor?

Getting the school grades and image job #1. Not creating another position on Jefferson St.

Oh, and congratulations to Harvey's Tennis Team  17-5.

In most school systems the JOB of the Superintendent is to fall on a sword in order to protect the Board members.
One thing that most Board members do not like is finding out news from a source that is not in the loop.
If I understand what you have written, and it is accurate, I would guess our new Super will have a short stay in Painesville.

If the schools work as Painesville manager and council, it's my understanding the city manager was hired by council and works for city council. (at least that is how it's Supposed to work) It's also my understanding the board hires the superintendent and he works for them. Are you saying the superintendent bypassed the board? This happens all the time with cm/council. Is anyone hoping for a short stay with the city manager? Politics!

This superintendent lacks both transparency and professionalism. Apparently he thinks he can make decisions and is accountable to no one. I heard this is becoming a pattern. If he were in the business world, he would be fired and promptly escorted to the door. I hope the BOE has the guts to not renew his contract. We're stuck with this joker for one more year, right? They bought him out in his last district to get rid of him. Is he really a better candidate than Dr. Moore who is behind bars? They sound like soulmates to me.

Why did they stop the lawn care service? Bid out the lawn service --problem solved (except for the weeding around the buildings)Maybe the students that have detentions could be put to good use here. Then they may not continue with what put them in all day or after school detention.

The school board didn't renew the lawn care contract for the c.f. company that had been servicing the district the past few years. The new company does a horrible job.

5:23/8:01 Only in Painesville does lawncare overshadow education?

It doesn't overshadow, it is a package deal. Why have beautiful new schools with lousy land? Why have new buildings with the same bad state report cards? Its called putting lipstick on a pig and calling it an improvement. It doesn't work for me.

7:47 I don't understand you/ For the past two months I have been going to the monthly school board meetings and have questioned him about changes in the gifted program, and changes with the juvenile detention center. These issues seemed important to me so I asked. Now in your world who cuts the grass seems to be your number one issue. That said go to the July meeting and question him about it. If you do I'll even buy you a cigar!

6:41 I guess you don't know me as well as you claim/ First off Mr. McWreath was MY first choice. Mr. Shepard was chosen so instead of complaining I believed the community should show him full support.
Hanlon was better? Ask the parents in Chardon what they think before you make a blanket statement. I will always view his hiring by Chardon as a gift.
So glad this post will soon go into the archives.
