"TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS" bto

Well Monday evening Painesville council had a work session. MIA was councilman Flock and councilman Fitzgerald.

When the meeting was about 20 minutes in I asked the person in front of me is this all about $15,000? Yes it was it seems this council can spend nearly 40 minutes on $15,000 and yet can pass a $9,000,0000 waterline in five minutes? All this for a $15,000 carryover?

To there credit councilwoman DiNallo and councilman DeLeone both suggested that with the present conditions of our streets that money should be used there.

Not so fast as I almost fell out of my seat councilman Fodor suggested that the Downtown Painesville Organization could use an extra $6,000? What their getting to much already first they get a 1.3 million dollar remodel and the City kicks in $22,000 a year to the organization. And guess what they want more! Councilman Fodor claimed economic development me I call it throwing good money after bad. Where does that come from ? "Institutional Memory" something else I learned Monday night.

Council-President Hach had a different approach "Lets get another truck and trailer and have two crews doing cold patch" Really Paul that cold patch idea seems to working out so great!

I guess what I didn't see was someone thinking outside the box. We have been on this system and nothing is going to change.

In the second part of the meeting the administration balked at every suggestion by council to make our utility bills more understandable.

I haven't a clue what the big secret is nor I understand why this would cost what $100,000 in software costs?

One council person suggested it could be put up on the website? No that won't work either.

Council also mentioned the 25/30 workers at the power plant and assured people they weren't playing cards. Well at least they know there down there.

regarding potholes, I saw another TV blurb concerning Cleveland using the Pothole Killer truck.
It came across like they think of it as a permanent fix but at least something is getting done.
Heck, in Painesville it would be a permanent fix since we never go back to do it correctly.

Cold patch? You mean that stuff they throw in the holes and then comes back out almost as fast? Hey, I see the E Erie St was cold patched yesterday for the first "repair" in two years. Nothing like waiting till it is beyond hope.

More money for the downtown Association?? Why?? What have they brought to the table to benefit the residents so far? Heck, I could use another $6K also but I guess I need to know someone on Council to apply for it.

Term, you don't seem to get it. If the utility/finance folks make it easier to understand the monthly bill, you might discover that there are all kinds of things wrong with the billing procedures. Like you I simply have to wonder where they come up with $100K as a figure for software? You mean that no other City has such software for billing and that Painesville would have to pay to have it developed?? Really? Sounds like my BS meter is going off.

Then the info can't be put on the City web site? Wow, this is some complicated stuff!

Okay, the workers are not playing cards but what ARE they doing? Does Council know that answer?

11:39 That's what I meant about thinking outside the box. A few years ago one of these pothole killer came before the administration and council with a free demonstration of how their process works. No takers.

Jim Fodor is a nice guy but is he really that out of touch with what concerns residents? It's time for that organization to sink or swim.

Can you imagine a private company with this attitude?

Wonder how many of you watched FOX8 do a story on Skinner Ave. today? It seems Painesville is getting a well deserved reputation! But remember... Shop Downtown.

Speaking of flames did you see Painesville's 20 yr old truck they bought? Hooray, it was working at this mornings fire at the Madison County Club and did the City proud. Hope you are happy now?

In todays N/H editorial a woman claimed Skinner Ave. was the worst street in the city. I beg to differ with her. First a councilman and other city board members live there and they want their road moved to the top of the list. Let's see Skinner, Hine, W. Jackson, Charlotte, Rockwood? Wait Charlotte done already. So if your on council work in some form of city activities you should get preference?

11:21 Skinner Ave. needs work no doubt but the worse? I drove down Skinner before answering this. To get to Skinner I drove down Erie, N. State, Sanford St. all worse then Skinner. On the way home I traveled Jackson St. also worse. This might be the case of the squeaky wheel getting the grease. I wait to see who runs for council in Ward I.
This is what happens when the City claims 15 million of bad roads and only collects 3 million every five years. Who in this city wouldn't want their street to move up?

Hine is bad and has been done in the past at each end but the main part will probably never get done, I'll bet you can guess why

I wasn't aware we had a reduction in the police department until last night. We now have a one person police department that consists of the Chief - me, myself and I. Sitting and listening to that talk and then reading the news release about the school situations, I was appalled. He was really tooting his own horn without regard to the men that work for him. Many, many people work hard in that department. Chief needs to remember it takes a village.

44077 should collect a portion of the sales tax in this region of the 44077.

Make them pay.

4:21 Maybe the chief meant to use we and used I? He knows who does the heavy lifting.

7:58 That area will be part of the Painesville-Concord JEDD

Everyone knows there is no I in Team. Read the article from council in the Gazette, it is all about him. YAWN. He's so all about this town, why doesn't he live here like the others had?

I missed this at first, but is Mr. Fodor on the downtown planning group? Isn't that like a conflict of interest? Shouldn't he have to abstain if that's where the money was pushed for? Something's not right.

Mr. Fodor is free to join any non-profit organization. I am sure he is an advocate for this group and lobbies for them.
