"OUR LIPS ARE SEALED" the go-go's

Pretty boring council meeting last night .

Job Creation Tax Credit (JCTC) was put on 3rd reading.

After what I heard at the last meeting with concerns to the Power Cost Adjustment, I felt whatever was spoken about needed more questions to be asked. So I asked a couple of simple questions.

Since we are all in agreement that Painesville very rarely produces electric power meaning all power used in the city originates somewhere else and we pay for it.

Who and how are the streetlights as well as traffic lights paid for? What fund pays for that.

At the last meeting power shaving was brought up again with the administration claiming a $4,000,000.00 saving? After looking at all electric funds I could not find a check for the money or even an invoice with a credit? How does this work?

30 seconds of silence. Either they don't know? Or they feel it's not any residents business?

Lose Lips Sink Ships?  Explain the secret.

Show up
Put up
Shut up

Councilman Flock brought up Prairie States outage. If I heard right the city (us) part owners were  not even informed by AMP-OHIO. Have to wonder what this will do to the PCA next month? Nothing probably will just owe more money.

Mr. McHugh comment that PSEC was getting close to its goal of $74.00MWh. Great that's only about 25% above the current market price.

Me I'm getting tired about asking about PSEC but what should we talk about? The poor conditions of the streets? The empty Harvey, Hospital, Hotel sites? The 3 H's ?

Most times when something gets torn down there is something planned for what replaces it? Not here in River City.

BULLETIN!

News Net 5 reporters were in town today doing a story on Painesville's Pothole Patrol.

It appears Assistant City Manager Doug Lewis could not get them to stay on Main St. between the Park and State St.?

Unconfirmed reports is that they are still in town getting a frontend alignment?

Watch story at 11:00 p.m. tonight or go to channel 5 web page.

Our lips are sealed, but not our streets!

I reviewed the minutes from the January 20, 2015 Council Meeting. "Mr. Cimaglio requested an exclamation in 'layman' terms of the Electric Funds 732-735 in a document provided to him from Mr. Unetic thru the City Manager. Council President Paul Hack asked Mr. Unetic to please put something together and provide Mr. Cimaglio with the explanation he is requesting". Did that ever happen? Could Mr. Unetic or Mr. Cimaglio please share that info?

Not much commenting going on here.

I was rolling along State street the other night. Very similar to shell craters. I have never seen our streets this bad in my entire life.

I have to admit that when you spoke in the visitors segment, I was stunned by the silence from the front table. IMO, the very least they could have done was to tell you that:
1) We will look into it and get you an answer
2) It is none of your business. Sit down and be quiet.
3) We are clueless
4) Why would you ask that?
5) Anything else?
Nope, you got about 20 seconds of awkward silence/indifference and then you sat down.

To 8:16 N State St is certainly bad but try E Erie St west bound into town. It is really hard to imagine that our Administration and Council have allowed this major road to look like a war was fought on it.
There is NO excuse for what we call roads in this City.

8:16 I was led to believe State St. from Erie to Chester St. was on the repaving list? An article recently in the News-Herald mad no mention of a resurfacing? This is waht 20 years of neglect does to your streets. Guess we had more important thing on that agenda?

3:04 What I was sent was account balances for the electric department for the last 10 years. I will post them on the blog. but without an explanation it doesn't do much for anyone. )01/26 Solitary man post is an exaple why one fund grows and another one no longer exists. Look when I get some of these requests back I can't make heads or tails out of what they men. I forward them to "experts" in electrical power systems and they are also mystified.
This latest round of how the PCA is calculated just proves to me that there might be one person in the administrarion (Mr. Unetic) Leading me to believe AMP-OHIO who compiles all the numbers is really the ones setting PCA?
It's pretty ovious when someone is trying to explain something they don't really understand.

Our electric department is just one big mistake.

10:16 By city rules they are under no obligation to answer any questions brought up by visitors at council meeting? But the silence is very telling.
This council only wants to operate as a sucessful feel good organization. They would rather not discuss problems or dirty laundry. And that for the most is why Painesville is presently where it is.
Three new rules of Painesville
Show up
Put up
Shut up

Coming up later this month the state will question residents about the need for a 9 million dollar waterline and crib.
I can assume that the city will take the same position it took as to demolishing the hospital. We must clear that site ASAP due to the future use of that site. That was how many years ago? Still waiting?

Just a wild guess but maybe they don't answer him because how he eloquetly describes them?
He finally said what most of us think. This bunch is truly dysfunctional. To bad I will enjoy him looking at them for answers.

The simple fact is that every person at the table, on Council, actually sought the job. With a job comes responsibility.

I fully realize that the problems the City is facing didn't start yesterday. Most of the people on Council today were not on the Council when the mistakes were made. Lots of blame to go around or course but now is the time to start making things "right".

Changing course means making decisions that might not be popular. It also means taking input from others to see if their view is valid. I know I don't have all the answers I need for the job I do but I have no problem surrounding myself with good people and then expecting results.

Feel good awards do nothing to make our streets better. They do nothing toward having equipment in place to do specific tasks.

I don't really mind paying for the stuff that the City needs. I resent paying taxes and seeing nothing in return.

At the 3/2/15 Council Meeting, Mr Unetic and Mr Carson said that they can start to put the months current PCA number on the monthly bill. Mr McHughes said that you can multiply the PCA times the kilowatt used number to get a the PCA amount. I thought last month that McHughes told us the PCA was an average of the last 12 months [to avoid spikes]. The more they talk the less I understand.
Look, if the Council President told Carson and Unetic to provide a citizen with a explanation in "layman" terms and that didn't happen then we need a new Council President. Putin is becoming more "Queen like" and that is scary!

I will attempt to put on the Blog. the information sent to me by the city in hopes that some or one of you might know the answers.

If you remember councilman Flocks questions were not answered at the last meeting and I wonder if the city sent the questions to other council people?

I don't believe they are hiding anything, they just don't know the answer's.

I wanted to speak about my water/sewer bill. I complained last month because I, along with many others I assume, was overcharged last month again. Well, they got me again this month with a "6" estimate for water usage, when there is no way it should have been estimated at a 6. I did complain last month, and most people in this town know if you complain, you can be sure to be retaliated against in Painesville, so I am wondering if everyone else got overcharged this month, too, or if it is just me. Since there is a minimum charge every month, there is no way to make up for the money you are ripped off. It is my opinion that everyone in the water/sewer department needs to go. Clean out that immature, caustic department, fix things the way they should be fixed, and move on already.

7:05 I guess what your asking is how do you get credit with three months of (6)? When they should have been at the minimum to begin with? Good question what one month of the minimum makes it all even? Something I really want an answer too.

Just watched the video on the website about Painesville pothole patrol. Let's start with next to Cleveland Painesville ranks second in complaints. What does that publicity do for our city? Bringing people to shop downtown?
If this administration as well as council isn't ashamed about this nothing will ever shame them. This Main St. streetscape was a waste of badly needed funds that the whole community needed to repair roads. I only hope those selfish store owners appreciate what there street has cost residents in vehicle repair. Myself best reason not to shop downtown, Can't risk the damage to my car getting there.
To the likes of Jim Fodor and Katie Jenkins I hope it was all worth it for you.

What a coincidence the Pot Hole Patrol comes to little old Painesville? Wonder who gave them the heads-up? Who complains the most about State St. and low and behold who shows up a couple of blocks from someone's house? Nobody listened about his Pot-Hole Killer and constant complaints about four guys and a truck. So who do you went out of their way to embarrass us?

6:38 It ain't me babe. You would need a fleet of buses to round-up all the suspects.

It would have been nice if Mr. Lewis could have been present and but a positive spin on the situation by showing Painesville involved in the 21st century with something on the order of the Pot-Hole Killer? Instead we viewed a person pounding patch into a hole. To be more authentic maybe instead of the truck city employee's could have used a horse drawn wagon?

Is there a good reason that power plant workers can't cold-patch a few potholes?

I thought the channel 5 story on Painesville's potholes was hilarious!
First they send out the assistant city manager out to be the sacrificial lamb. and he ends with the comment if residents see a pothole, report it to the public works department. Really Mr. Lewis you need us to report them?

How long before Putin gives this guy the ax - for public speaking?

9:06. I would think by now everyone on this blog would know that the Main St. Improvement was a grant that could only be used for the Main St. Program . This money would have never been given to the city, for pot holes.....

At March 7, 2015 at 7:57 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

7:11 I believe everyone knows. And knows that other grants like Community block grant money as well as general fund money went in to pay for the whole deal. If it would have only been that one grant just maybe no one would care so much.
In a city with such bad infrastructure you would think people might even look a little past the downtown area to improve the quality of life?

It would have been nice to ask for a grant to repair all city streets instead of two lousy blocks.

Perhaps Cleveland will rent us their pot hole killer (they have 2) when they are all caught up. This takes them out of the worst and moves us up to #1. WHen we're finished we'll give it back or maybe they could rent it out to #3 worst?

11:47 At least then we are viewed as doing something. The cold patch is a joke. I know it, you know it and they know it!
So why do it?
