"MISSING YOU" john waite
Two interesting stories in the News-Herald the past two days first Sunday's paper had a story about Painesville's "Little Mexico" and mentioned that the city has a wealth of Mexican restaurants and grocery stores. Now you can't disagree this is true fact even if you wished it wasn't true . The News-Herald reporter question how long before Painesville markets and brands these businesses in town? Well all you have to do is read some of the comments posted here and you know the answer. In Painesville think, Hispanic's equal illegals if they are or not. It's called profiling.
Mondays News-Herald had a front page story about GOP leaders aim to increase votes at a rally in Painesville. As more than 100 people gathered? Stop right there We had the U.S. Speaker-of-the- House John Boehnor,Governor John Kasich and our Congressman David Joyce and you only got a 100? Boehnor is the third in line after the President and Vice-President to be our leader. The Governor of our State, and our Congressman and a little more than 100. I wonder if the city administration was aware of these people coming to town? What about that Downtown organization did someone drop the ball.... or was there a reason they didn't want people to know?
Have to wonder after the "Rally" if they stopped at La Mexicana for a bite to eat?
Drove through Painesville today it's turned into diving through a maze. Now all the promises of road repairing I guess will take place after the first snow? They have done some of the work but none of the streets are completely done. What was it Katie, July we would see construction started? Fair O.K. you never did mention when it would be completed. Those would be interesting contracts to view. We once had a county engineer that said "your road work should be done by the time the leaves fall on them." Good Luck

Is there a road ANYWHERE in the City that is in "good" condition? Off the top of my head, I can't think of a single one.
The one that comes the closest is Mentor Ave but to get it paved a few years ago the Administration gave up two lanes. Now it is a traffic jam from about 4 pm to 6 pm every day. Thanx!
We have a "wealth" of Mexican restaurants and grocery stores? Really?? I know of a few but I wouldn't think of it as a "wealth".
Heard Rally was their office in the Senior Center. Well maybe they should have held it on one of our closed streets. Plenty of choices and lots of room to accommodate more people. At least they chose to come to Painesville. One has to wonder why. No one else wants to come to Painesville. We are the County seat and there isn't a hall or facility to hold any kind of event of this type. Sure we have schools, but how many would argue not to use these sites? Do we close schools or worry about security?
Why the small turnout at GOP HQ in Painesville on Sunday? Perhaps one reason is that people chose the Browns over the clowns.
School where my grandkids go is closed so it can be a polling place. They didn't close them in the past.
(Humor begins)> We can't have unknown adults around the children, it wouldn't be safe. They are only safe around educators. Hey wait, I keep reading about educators harming children. <(Humor ends) Educators are really taking it on the chin lately in the press.
Maybe we could have poling at the churches. Wait, we already are. I guess there aren't enough churches willing to be a poling place. Wait, what happened to separation of church and state?
Sorry, I'm just in a mood!
5:34 I agree but it's a different world out there. Any knucklehead can go to a gun show purchase a AR-15 and turn Election Day into Massacre Day. Authorities decide to err on the side of caution, can't blame them.
Growing up and watching people file into your elementary gym must have left an impression on many young people in the 50's and later. It's a shame young students won't have the opportunity to see how the process works.
I for one see no problem with voting in a church no one but your candidates opponent is trying to convert you.
Since the schools are all closed why use churches? Heritage is close to Chestnut so we could use four schools and the library.
Seems the luster has diminished from your assessment of councilwoman Katie Jenkins what say you?
2:36 good idea I wonder why no one thought of it before. We close five schools and only use two.
Katie? I have known her since she was in grade school. She is a young woman that any mother or father would be proud of. Great wife and mother. now comes the BUT. Running and sitting on council is just not a P.R. position sometimes you have to vote with what the ordinances tell you.
Now before the Barnes Ave. vote was taken I would have honestly bet my life that Katie would vote no on this rezoning request. Is this the property values she wants for the city of Painesville? Look I agree with some that's slum property and let's not give another reason to expand it in the city. All three voted to make these three properties R1 and although they have no reason to explain their vote it would be interesting to know what they were thinking, Look the vote had nothing to do with Ward II. If I lived in that ward that vote would give me reason to pause/
So let's see...a while back, Painesville city council went on national TV and radio, and said they wanted Painesville to be a sanctuary city for the illegals, and told the entire world that we liked our illegals, and that they could leave peacefully here. Now we have 20,000 Mexicans in our small town. In five years, it will probably be at least 50,000 to 100,000. That's the thing about illegals as our country should have learned from the first two amnesties this country has provided illegals -- they don't work -- they just bring more illegals.
Now, we are having articles in the paper on how they want to make Painesville into a "Little Mexico". Listen Painesville leaders -- no we do not; and I can't believe you not only think that that is the solution for this city that you have run into the ground, but you also printed it in the paper. I think my property values are down just about far enough! As soon as that article hit the front porches, I heard a very, very loud sound. Did you hear it, too? It was the sound of my property value being sucked into a big, vast hole called "this doesn't look like America anymore, it looks like Mexico." I mean, are you people kidding me?
7:27 I believe it was only one Painesville councilwoman that went on FOXNEWS to make that statement.
20,000? I don't believe we have 20,000 total people.
Look that article didn't make my day either but who are the only people willing to come to live in Painesville? Who are the only group of people starting new businesses in town.
You may not like the facts but they are true.
This is what happens when citizens let a small group of people as well as an administration run wild for over twenty years. You then wake up one morning and go WTF?
No. you give them awards?
Seems the only thing the previous administration could drive out of town was the hospital.
Geneva had this same problem with the illegals. Now they are gone. I don't know how long it took, why they came (my best guess is nursery work) and how long it will take them to leave. (My best guess is after they've turned Painesville into their Mexico, brought all the gangs and drugs here, ruined the homes and totaled this town). They've done a good job - off to a great start for Painesville's demise.
