I gave some thought to the candidates night Monday, and everyone I've talked to claimed that a person running for office for the first time should do everything in their power to become more visible. Mondays MTCN well Tom Fitzgerald was traveling? I wonder if he would have been traveling if the meeting could be viewed on channel 12 twice a day from now to election day? No politics on Channel 12? What's political about giving the residents an opportunity to view the candidates for council? it's not an ad? What than is the constant police and fire levies on Channel 12? With a message at the end 'for educational purposes'. Bet everyone would have watched who was and wasn't there? Maybe more than 40 people would have had the chance to watch childish actions, rude actions by a candidate along with knowledge they had or didn't have on a subject?
If I was advising someone for council I could easily tell the candidate to skip the meeting? That 30 to 40 people? Keep everyone in the dark. you don't have to commit to anything.
Everywhere I go in Painesville I hear we want more transparency, Well lets show some of that. It was mentioned that Painesville received new equipment for council meetings at City Hall? Well I guess theres some bugs that have to be worked out? Maybe an adult instead of a high school student should be held responsible for what we get or don't get to see? Or is someone already manipulating what you get to see or don't?
I have noticed for the past three council meeting a reporter from the News-Herald has been in attendance at the council meeting yet not even a paragraph in the News-Herald. You would believe that the mention during a presentation that Painesville was paying $104.04 MW of electricity when the going price on the grid was $45.00 MW would have to been an interesting story? No story, sorry nothing to see here folks.
So if you can't see it on channel 12, the largest daily paper in Lake County doesn't cover it. What's left?
Well the weekly Lake County Gazette cover council, problem is its just a weekly. Yet the News-Herald should be ashamed how much better they cover all Lake County governments. Maybe they don't have enough paper with a dozen pages of ad's for Classic this car or that?
Painesville Pride, Has anyone ever seen a story in that paper that was negative about the City of Painesville?
The City Newsletter? Do any of you remember a story on AMP-OHIO in either of these? Great lets talk about Municipal Power Week, could we also mention that council sent AMP-OHIO a check for over two million dollars with nothing to show in return?
Tom Fitzgerald might make a great councilman? Presently he is the Phantom Traveling Man that I'm guessing would like maybe to be the Phantom City Councilman also? Maybe we should buy him a mask to help keep his plans for Painesville a mystery? ?That along with the chance to see a grown-up present their
childish acting ability? your only chance to see this performance presently is live!.

I saw Hal taking pictures and became alarmed! I don't want my picture associate with anything he might be selling. Why pictures Hal?
Since this took place in the Hanlon Media room at Harvey HS. All the technology was there! I can't believe this won't be aired! Daryl does a great service to provide the residents with Meet The Candidates. School board and council, he has the kids involved and is making an effort to get the commu it's involved. Can the help him a bit? I really don't think funding is the problem to get this on the air.
Agree this is an oversight by the city.

I was impressed with Ms. Dinallo and I was very disappointed in Ms Becks. I've never heard a candidate talk so much a say so little as Arlene Becks.
John Murphy is a nice guy, a good ole Boy from Morgantown. After the MTCN, I witnessed Hal Werner taking John Murphy picture arm and with Arlene Becks. Sorry John, I'll vote for Jim Fodor.

What's that saying keep your friends close and keep your enemy's closer? Look all John was doing was being civil what's wrong with that?

If Arlene Becks acts as she did at this meeting, we will do a great service to the city by not electing her. I have never seen a candidate act as poorly and show so little respect to others as she did. Debate issues or ideas but no excuse for being down right rude. Would she treat the citizens of Painesville the same????
One other thing, she would probably be the first one to run for mayor. That would be the end of Painesville.

To 6:33: You are right - Arlene Becks WAS a horrible council person, and she was rude and disrespectful to the citizens, and I found her behavior shocking and unbelievable. SHE thought she was pretty great, though. And there has been a comment or two on this blog, that I thought was planted by her, about changing to a mayor, and her being the mayor. Her and Werner and their big thoughts of grandeur...let's be glad we got rid of those two losers, and leave it that way. What everyone saw at the candidates night is exactly who she is, and if she's that bad on stage, can you imagine what she is like when she is off the stage? I'm begging people not to vote for her. She really was horrible, and she NEVER knew what she was talking about, but that NEVER kept her from talking and talking at the council meetings just to hear herself talk and to try to look important. If your hand is tempted to push the Beck's lever, SLAP IT, and push the other one...please!
The election is pretty clear for me. Murphy. Aston. DiNallo. Yes on 3, no on 1, 2, 4, and 5.

Becks lost her seat because she could not understand the rules.
And we do not need to replace Fodor at this time.
Also the MTCN was changed for Ms Becks so she could do her fund raiser so why could you not change the night for Mr Fitzgerald ?

Because he was going up against people with name recognition.
I think Murphy will do a better job than Fitzgerald. If nothing else, a voice of dissention from the status quo is needed on council. We currently do not have enough, because Andy is the only one there with spine.

"Fitzgerald has been on the Painesville Planning Commission since 2000 and has been chairman of that commission since 2007.
As the owner of Fitzgerald's Irish Bed and Breakfast in Painesville he said he has been supported by the city and now he looks “forward to supporting the city in future endeavors.”
He listed his goals as stimulating economic growth, supporting improvement in infrastructure, roads and utilities.
He said he wants to “listen to the citizens of Painesville and represent their needs to City Council.”
And why did you not complain about John not turning in his questionnaire.

6:42 You asked I will tell you. The last time John Murphy was interviewed by the News-Herald he mentioned he had lost faith in Ms. McMahon as the city manager. The News-Herald printed that ALL candidates were happy with the job the city manager was doing. John asked for a retraction, none came. The News-Herald seems to print what they want, not what they were told? Why even deal with them?
Now what exactly are Mr. Fitzgeralds postion on the levies city income tax. Supporting who or what to move the city forward? He answered nothing. Had a chance to meet the residents he was a no show?
Now I will tell you what I think.
First Mr. Fitzgerald has made himself a pretty good life, he has a business he enjoys to run, he combines business with pleasure on his tours. He is recently retired from is job. Does he need this? Did he really want to be a councilman? The man enjoyed his life. Wife beard,long hair the Hemi Challenger why does he need to be saddled down with a councilmans duties? Can't wait for the first call he gets in the middle of the night due to loud noise in a neighborhood, or when will the chuck hole in front of someones house will be repaired. Sorry this job is going to crimp his style. Lets hope the phone will not go unanswered, the seat on council will not empty a lot. The truth of all this will become public in the not to distant future. Sorry I'm late 6:42 I didn't realize I was your employee?

Wow I guess the rumors around town are true you don't like Tom Fitzgerald, that's ok your life.
So no councilman can enjoy there spouse, style or car ?

10:19 Maybe I didn't explain myself very weel. First I don't know Mr. Fitzgerald well enough to like or dislike him. My point was he recently retired, has a great business and was told Fitzgerald Tours make two or three trips to Europe a year. Also he and his wife take extendended weekends to Europe also. Again God Bess them. My question where was he Meet the Candidate Night? Where was he at the Hellrigels event for candidates? His opponent was there. Has he gone door to door?
Look as a candidate he will have to sacrifice alot to serve. My concern is to a empty chair the first and third Monday of the month and chance of unanswered phone calls.
It would have been nice to hear his views.
If you have a noise complaint you call the police dept. like I do, not my councilman, and if there is a chuck hole you call public works like I do, not my councilman, and most of the time they take care of it, that is how it works, most Councilman do not answer their phone in the middle of the night.
