"YOU NEVER GIVE ME YOUR MONEY" beatles

Someone sent this to me with concern to the levies.

Government agency and its agents seek an 'infinite' sum of money for itself  because a function such as operating the city is good and we should be willing to give an infinite funding to achieve that goal. It is never stated as infinite, but that is the practical lobby.

This is not a reasonable position. In real life there are limited resources and we must choose between limited quantities of even the most important things in life. If all of our resources were spent on government, how would we than provide for ourselves? We must preserve the things things like food, shelter. provide for a better living for our families. Plus the fact that by purchasing items we keep the economy growing.

Please don't tell me this is just a cup of coffee, a postage stamp or some other irrelevant item. This is my income. Don't tell me you haven't received a raise in four years, many of us took pay cuts to keep our jobs, and haven't got back to where we started in 2008. Please don't tell me how badly you need us. Everyone is replaceable. Just because you function in a public service don't expect anymore respect than I do at my job. Your not doing this out of the goodness of your heart, are you?

We have people presently running our city and on council that believe the city employee's come before the residents of Painesville? It might be nice if those same people checked the employee rolls and noticed that over 80% don't live here. Why? Yet they have their hands out for more money constantly?  I have given myself much time to view if I can afford what the city is asking me in levies and sorry I can't afford another postage stamp .

does anybody know if there is a website where we can get a list of city employees and their salary, they are publicly paid so this should be available to the public, I've seen the one for teachers but cant find one for city employees

Two things come to mind when I read this:

1) If you/we continue to give public officials money every time they ask for it, there is zero incentive to learn to do the job properly.

2) It takes just 100 entities each wanting "just" 1% of you income and you have nothing left. It is kind of like having teachers that each give you 45 minutes of homework per day BUT with 6 teachers that is 4 1/2 hours of homework. Simply not workable.

Time to get spending (in ALL forms) under control.

Question:
Is it really public service when you get paid for it?
Public service really is for the people who do something for the public good and do it for free. Otherwise, it is a job just like the rest of us have.

There is no reason to auction the police cars off as soon as they do. Other area deparments get 20-30K more miles then Painesville get out of their cars. If the cars really are that bad, then maybe they need to stop having them serviced at XXXXXX XXXXXXXX.
(No names please.)
I have had my car serviced there and was very pleased with the results.

6:51 Was not my comment but was sent in by anonymous. Did we really need to know the repair shop?

In other news we payed AMP-OHIO
$1,154,537.85 in September.

TOTAL METERED ENERGY 18,768,567 kWh

Total PSEC? one figure shows $390,423.04
yet
another shows PSEC $485,727.81?
as the total PSEC amount?

To breakdown the Bill

Total Power Charges; $1,067,336.50

Total Transmission Charges;
$71,931.76

Total Other Charges;
$15,269.59

Total Miscellaneous Charges
$0.00

Got to love the word "Other"

I just found out that former City Manager Rita McMahon is on the Painesville City Charter Review Committee, so she is one of the people responsible for the proposed charter changes up for vote in this election. How in the world did this happen? She ruined our entire city in every way possible during her time here, and now she is in a position to have something to do with charter changes?! I hope we get new people in office, and I hope one of the first things they do is to try to eradicate her from anything to do with making any kind of decisions for our city or representing us in any way. Rita, please go away. Please. You are not wanted here. Are the Feds coming here to do investigations into the AMP-OHIO deals? Maybe THAT will get rid of her finally. I cannot believe that she is still here, and that she still has the guts to show her face around here, let alone is still having ANYTHING to do with running this city.

While not directly related to this discussion, it does relate in the way I have to spend my money.
I just found out that my health care costs for 2014 will go up by 40%. Considering what health care costs are that isn't as bad as it could be BUT it means there is less for anything else.
This would include any sort of tax increase.
Just how did a National Health Care plans benefit me?

Painesville drivers their patrol cars to over 100'000 miles or more Mentor pd goes only to 70,00 and they are done. State patrol 80,000 then retired. So where did you get your information 6:51. I use to take care of those cars

11:05 It was mention on this blog. at the time she was appointed to the Charter Review Committee. I don't believe she would have been my choice. Also city empployees should sit on the board either. The council-president in my opinion was 'stacking the deck'.
5:59 I guess my question is what kind of hospiialization did you have.
10:49 We also must consider how much time those vehicles are just idling also. How many time that vehicle was taken where normally cas don't travel. It appears the vehicles are well maintained?

I know it's not popular to sing the praises of CM Rita McMahon on this blog sight, but I'm going to try. Ms McMahon insisted that every Department Head publish a monthly report. Those monthly reports would then be posted on the Painesville City Website, under Document Archives-Departmental Monthly Reports. They were available to the public. Ms. McMahon retired a year ago and not one Departmental Report has been post since she left. The current additute is that info is on a need to know basis and the public don't need to know.

6:51 here, I work for another police department in the county (further west) and have friends at several other departments. So my knowledge of cruiser replacement is firsthand, vs. "I used to work on the cruisers". We are not Mentor, we do not have Mentor's money. We are not OSP either.

There is NO (read: ZERO) reason that a car should be put to pasture at 70k. I stand by the fact that Painesville's maintenance plan (to include the repair shop that I will not name) is part of the reason we are getting less miles out of the cruisers than we ought to be.

The flip side to that is that the roads are in such atrocious condition that the suspension parts are taking more abuse than they ought to.

To651:: Idid not say I worked on the car, I said I used to take care of those cars,.. I too worked as a police officer. And have many friends that are on the job. I took care go vegetating cars repaired oil changes tire changes ect. We run cars to over 100,000 miles that like 300,000 to your car. At that milager Iam sure your car is gone before it hits that many miles. And these cars are asked to perform like a race car... That is not safe for the public or those that driver them.. The reason we can push these cars so far. Is the great care we get from Ave. Auto....see I said it.

You said it because Term allowed the name of the business to be said, which I think is unfair. Term, if you want to censor one person for saying their opinion about a business, you ought to censor another person equally.
