MEET YOUR CANDIDATE NIGHT FOR SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS

This coming October 22, 2013 at the Harvey High Media Center all Painesville residents will be given the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the candidates running for Painesville City Local School Board.

The meeting will start at 7:00 pm

The guidelines are just like the candidates for Painesville City Council as it will be the same format.

Three candidates are running for two openings on the school board.

Kathleen Powers Dolney

Jeffrey C. Powers

Alison Rossman

In an seat that expires 12/31/15 only one candidate for that position.

Charles Tackett

This is chance to not only meet them but for you to see where these people want to take Painesville's education in the future.

GREAT MEETING MANY QUESTIONS ASKED AND ANSWERED.

One thing I learned was if the child was prepared for Kindergarten and spent his whole educational studies in PCLS they graduated with completed State expectations.

**********************************************************************************

There is another meeting TONIGHT at 6:30  at Lake Erie College Music Hall at 6:30

Vibrant NEO Vision Session

This is a study with concerns to Northeastern Ohio Region.

I with my Harvey High School education believed this was a way that communities could share resources like the Council Of Governments in say purchases and co-operation between them.

No, then I found out who the speaker was, remember Mr. Volpe from City Architecture? The guy with the plan for streetscape, Making Downtown Painesville "Disneyland"? Well it seems he now has a grant funding to include as many as 18 counties to make Northeastern Ohio "Disney World". Look The guys got a lot of nice idea's he just never tells you what rock the money is under and your left like Painesville $300,000 short of the cost of the project. Now he's going Regional!

Now a twist in the story. Believe it or not there is already a group  against this plan. Citizens Against NEOSCC and Regionalism?

Now am I to believe that the push behind this group is Mentor 9-12 Project, Geauga County Tea Party? Must be taking a break from the Affordable Care Act?

This came out on their email today;

Quick note to all who will be attending the meeting tonight.

Prior to and during the meeting, please act as if you don't know any of the other liberty minded attendees. Don't g in being polite to anyone. As suggested, please sit so that we are forming a diamond type shape with the tips surrounding the entire group.

I plan on sticking around after the meeting and would be glad to talk with anyone who would like to talk.

Yours in Liberty

Chuck

Dear Patriots,

We need to fight this by being at this meeting. Please read below and join us tomorrow night take a stand against

Yours in Liberty,

No one deserves this bunch more than Mr. Volpe Good luck tonight I will be at the Painesville Zoning Meeting. Hearing about a fence on Jackson St. I assure you is more productive.

Volpe did the downtown master plan not the Streetscape, I know it makes no difference to you but once in a while you were correct on your "facts"

3:32 You to? Well did you ever hear about sarcasim? Look it at least you noticed. you a memer to.
5:51 downtown master plan Streetscape whats the difference? Looking at it now you got Nothin' period. That's the facts. Ziremba or what ever that guys name was remember the 'Chicago Style' Condos? What happened?
Streetscape we even had an $800,000 grant threw in $300,000 of city funds and what the deal is still $300,000 short? Thats my "facts'.
The people in charge sold/told you one Hell of a fairy tale and you ended up with what?
Thank God those people have left or are leaving. The hospital story was only there to help you forget the hospital not being there anymore. Streetscape? TWO blocks at a cost of $1,400,000? like I said great plans but no idea which rock the money is under. All I seen so far from streetscape has been two trees cut down. Least we forget the expensive Las Vegas lights? Anthor failure. Maybe we should plant Palm trees in Veterans Park again?
Odd we didn't have money for roads or water lines but we found money for Palm trees in Painesville?

And can we have an amen for the trees lining Main Street the used to be lite with twinkle lights installed by a company from Las Vegas? And now we cut them down?

Two vendors at the farmers market yesterday......

Thank you, city administration for all you do in our great city.

I attended the Ashtabula VibrantNEO session and all I can say...... What a waste of time.
We voted on key points about living in Northeast Ohio and we all agreed NEO has a lot going for it. Paul Volpe was the host speaker at the KSU branch and his speech sounded very familiar to the speeches I heard him give in Painesville for Streetscapes.

I walked away thinking what a 4 million dollar grant could do for Painesville instead do these pie in the sky dreamers who can make a very pretty pie chart and draw a great map connecting the dots of NEO.
This was federal money spent on questions you could have asked a feral cat and we would all be in agreement.

I would have rather seen them keep cuyahoga valley national park open a few more days.......

10:45 Well at least the Tea Party came out and sat through the presentation around 45 strong. They must have ned something stronger than tea to get them back. When asked at the beginning of the presentation about how they viewed NEO atleast 45 claimed nowhere how NEO viewed it. Well someone is sitting on 4 million dollars that for once I agree with the TP this is a waste. Not a word about education, future power. Just ideas people can give them ideas for free. 45 minutes had enough I can dream at home. I believe if Lake County is to participate they have to kick in $15,000 To the commissioners, keep the money in the bank.
With all these sudies I seea scam.

Meet the school candidates is interesting. Putting a former teacher on the board would be like having your former city manager or department head on city council. Who's interests would they look out for when deciding on pay and benefits? Their friends or the taxpayers?

3:43 I assume you mean Mrs. Dolney. All I can tell you as for as long as I have known her ,and talking to my daughter Angela as well as many other students she has taught, the students come first. Her reputation is impeccable I believe the education of Painesville student will be formost on her agenda.
I believe Painesville would be well served with her on the board.

3:43 Check out today's News Herald. A Chardon candidate for Board of Education is a retired Chardon teacher. Who was looking out for Painesville's interests when they gave Hanlon $100,000 to go away? No one. If you're concerned about a teacher being on the BOE, why don't you run?

3:43- I understand your point and was thinking the same thing. If someone retired from a a union, then switches sides to the council or board that seems wrong to me. Its like giving the unions insiders at the negotiating table.

3:43/ 11:04 I can understand your thought but in the same way companies promote union people to management it more depends on the person. If it didn't work companies wouldn't do it.
I have worked both sides of the fence and have always been loyal to my employer,
Are you saying anyone who belonged to a union should hold a management position. President Reagan was once the head of the actors union he had little problem firing air traffic controllers.
Many times in the past I have watched people in management fail. Due to the fact they were unaware of what was going on.
As someone mentioned to me everyone is capable of running a school system, we all spent at least 12 years in one.

4:42 TP refers to Tea Party? Lake Erie College Music Hall.

I'm not sure you do understand. How many times have we all heard "Vote for me, I'll fix everything or I'll change the world". Think Hal Werner or Steve Costell. They were voted in based on us thinking they were going to clean house and both did nothing. Anymore most people running for office around here just have their own agenda to fixate on and not the needs of the people. That also goes for the state and federal levels too, but it's a shame when you put your trust in your own town folks and or neighbors.

4:49 Anyone who tells you anything of that nature is not telling you the whole truth. On city council you need a second and at least four votes to fix anything. Same with a BOE I guess you need three .
More than one vote is needed in any case.
The two people mentioned I believe went in with the best of intentions and were either swayed by others or hit a wall.
It don't come easy.

The ex-teacher you are referencing proves through actions that she cares and is for the benefit of the students. She VOLUNTEERS 2 days a week at the high school working with students to raise their college entrance exam scores as well as help them with applying for scholarships for college and getting them involved in the community through community service. This is one lady that you can not discredit. She is above board. She has no problem making noise on the board if you are not aware of the challenges she has presented to the current board. If you want someone who will make the board accountable to the public, she is a definitely the one. Also your analogy of there being sides is sad but true. It should be a team effort between the board and the educators. e might get more accomplished if it was. This could be the beginning of something positive based on the relationships she has established. It is a lot better than electing those individuals that sit at the board meetings butvery, very rarely enter the schools that they SERVE>

To 4:49: I don't know about Steve Costell, but I can tell you that you are right when it comes to Hal Werner. As SOON (the VERY night) he won, he turned his back on all the people who helped him get into office and on all the things he said he was going to do. He made a LITTLE noise about the illegals for a minute, but mostly he just started kissing the feet of Rita McMahon, who was the City Manager at the time, and Hada and the rest of that bunch. Guess he thought he was going to try to be "one of the boys," no matter who he had to lie to to get himself into office. As it turns out, they didn't want him, and then neither did anyone else. So I wholeheartedly agree with you about Werner -- he was just in it for himself. Nobody was happier to see him go in the end than the people who helped him get into office...and that's a pretty sad state of affairs.

If you vote for John Murphy, I think you'll find an honest person who really does care about this city and its residents. People have been going to him for help for years now anyway. I don't think we'll regret it if we get him into office, and I think the people will have a real ally in him.

9:08 I couldn't agree with you more. Mrs. Donley has always made students first on her agenda.

6:52 It's not as easy as you make it sound. One person can't deliver what you expect. This city has had a grip on it for many years. Things didn't get this way overnight. yet people expect it to change on a dime. As far as votes cast by members of council the person that voted for AMPGS was retained and the person that voted against it was defeated? That cost you 2million + Look how many on council have ever brought resolutions for things for council to vote on?
Maybe Hal in his mind believe that the rest on council would work with him? Than you throw in the Jackie drama and that ended it for him. No one to blame but himself.

This is 6:52. Nobody expected Hal to go in there and conquer Goliath in a week by himself. It happened just like I said it did. For one thing, he got people to help him with his campaign by saying that he was going to work to get McMahon out, so we thought that we knew that there would be at least two people on council at that point with that agenda...that would be a start anyway. The VERY NIGHT he learned that he won -- immediately upon hearing that he won, he changed his tune about that, and distanced himself immediately from everyone who got him into office. A real creep, and he deceived a lot of people. I don't think anyone who helped him get into office would cut him any more slack than I am and, in fact, I'm holding back considerably.

The only thing good about getting Werner into office was that it got Horvath out, and that was a worthy effort and cause, even if we did have to put up with Werner for one term.

As for Werner....faded off into obscurity where he belongs. In the end, he screwed HIMSELF and got just what he deserved. Gives me a little chuckle every time I think of it.
