"IF I AIN'T GOT YOU" alicia keys

We constantly here how the major expense in our general budget goes to wages and benefits? Recently I inquired to the city what do city employees contribute to their health insurance cost. Now I will let you judge if these figures might contribute to why those costs are so high.

A single person working for the city pays $24.93 out of every two week paycheck in a years time  that comes to $648.38 for coverage for the year.

A family policy cost's the employee $49.85 every two weeks that comes to $1296.10 for coverage for the year.

I know if the spouse is employed and has coverage the city will not cover  them. I have no idea what deductibles, or co-pays they presently have but I don't believe there is a $3000.00 deductibles.

Now I will not pass judgement on this benefit package, but I who worked in the private sector know what I payed for health insurance and how good or bad it was, now you can compare what you pay working in a real world environment and you can decide if the City of Painesville spending over 3 million dollars in insurance is a good idea?

All this talk about Obamacare/ Affordable Care Act? What's the problem?  Painesville a government entity can provide health care at these prices maybe we should all sign up with them?

You wonder why the roads, sewers are in there present condition? You decide.

We brag about our three businesses we run in this town. Well how did they do last year?
You be the Judge.

2012 Water Revenue Fund Revenues                       $5,259,475
2012 Water Revenue Fund Expenses                       $4,962,727 *
2012 NET PROFIT                                                         $296,748

2012  Sewer Revenue Fund Revenue                        $3,678,780
2012  Sewer Revenue Fund Expenses                       $3,812,634*
2012 NET LOSS                                                              $133,854

2012 Electric Revenue Fund Revenues                      $26,055,157
2012 Electric Revenue Fund Expenses                       $26,998,849 *
2012 NET LOSS                                                                $943,692

* These expenses include transfers out that were used to pay for capital and debt.

I agree out sourcing isn't that bad of an idea.

After the departure of Human Resource Manager Robert Baetzel, the city opted to hire Jeremy Iosue of Harvey/Aben/ Iosue. The firm specializes the personnel issues and provides collective bargaining/negotiations, labor relations, human resources, training, and other management counseling services as may be requested by the City throughout the duration of the Agreement. Mr. Iosue is on retainer for a monthly fee of $150.00. The fee covers general, routine phone consultation. In addition, the City agrees to pay the firm for all actual hours spent providing the aforementioned services to the City at a rate of $125.00 per hour. No charge shall be made for travel time, mileage, road tolls, parking or for meals. Total charges under this Agreement shall not exceed $48,000.00. $28,000.00 of this amount is to be used for on-going counsel, and $20,000.00 of this number is to be used for labor negotiations. Any fee over the cap will go uncompensated for the work provided. This saving the City thousands of dollars a year.

All this and Mr. Iosue doesn't get a paid day off on Columbus Day! Who gets Columbus Day off anyway?

Those insurance amouts are unbelievable!
I mentioned the amounts to my employer and he claimed any company with that package would go broke. I asked him if Columbus Day was a payed holiday? He laughed, not in the real world son.

I am concerned about your figures for the various departments. Having had previous knowledge on these, the ones you have posted don't make sense. Please recheck and include all the expenses that are occurring in each department.

I don't believe it is a City Holiday either

I'd say the employees hit the lottery. No wonder they give you so much grief on the blog. If people only knew...... And now they do!

I think what people don't understand is that the city is subsidizing (that means you and me) are paying the rest of the city worker's premium. I have $500 deducted from my pay twice a month. I pay more in 1 month than these people pay in a year. And the company I work for pays the same on my plan. So I'd like to know how much the city is paying for the balance of their insurance premiums. That's what is going to hit us in the gut. How much we are actually paying for them to have this platinum insurance.

6:03 These are not my figures. These figures were sent to me by the City of Painesville.
5:34 Not so much the Lottery is that all I hear is they want the same as what the private sector has, I have yet to run into anyone working in Painesville with this low of a premium.
6:54 the City pays over 3 million in insurance a year.

Figures are off, maybe you transposed something in the typing as that is NOT accurate. Also, I believe there are a few different insurance packages so why not print all the amounts? No paid day off for Columbus Day in the city either bub. Check your facts again.

The health care is part on the union contract and is change with every new contract. You keep complaining about what they are paid and what benefits they get for police and fire would you strap ona 40cal and put your life on the line.. And please don't compare this with military personal. Their pay sucks even more. We the people put these people in harms way and complain about paying them. Yet the cops in DC responded to a call and are being paid to be there but they are there and like Painesville PD they to have that kind of pride. Example the 500year flood they were there and worked many hours knowing they were being exposed to toxic material . But they came in everyday .. So give them a break

8:18 The city made a claim that they have lost over 3 million in revenue. Now police I believe are one thing, but all you got is a 500 year flood?
Look tells us where the money should come from?
Just think if those 80% of workers lived here they could vote on this.

5:10 Sorry Bub, The figures came fom the city all mI di was mutiply the insurance over a years time. Now all other numbers came directly from the city. Where do you see the figures not accurate?
I asked for the what employee's pay for health care benefits this is what they sent me. What figures do you believe are wrong?
8:18 As I said I will let residents judge on the amounts.
7:16 brings in some good points.

You are part way there. Go to the city for the numbers. a start. Try this, a list of the incomes, top to bottom, not by dept but by income. Lists name, Dept and gross income. Just ask for the top 40 for 2013 and put that out there and then ask yourself, well, you think of the questions.

Enjoyed my 30 with the city and quite happy.. But I never saw those incomes, times change.

8:18 One problem I have with you thinking, they chose the profession. Just like teachers, farmers and bank tellers. No one was holding a gun to your head telling you to be a cop or fire fighter. Yes, they are compensated and yes they have good benefits. Sorry, not voting for the levy to be dumped in the general fund. Also your choice to live here, think about it. And I do have a problem with selective stops and what they choose to respond and write violations for. It is a problem.

5 years ago and. I am happy to pay to pay the 200 can not wait for Obama care!!
I was told it will only cost 100 dollars-for good insurance when I stop working
thanks OBAMA!!! thank you OBAMA

8:03 It might be cheaper and cost affective to pay the fine and turn you over to the Affordable Care Act. Then you can complain about Obama 24/7.

1:40: Would be interested in knowing more about the "selective stops and what they choose to respond and write violations for." Can you go into more detail for those of us who don't know exactly what you mean?

11:07 is right let's hear more about 'selective stops?' Who, what for and where?
6:08 I guess all I will say about Obamacare is will someone please explain how providing health insurance to over 15% of the American population will cause Armageddon? I can't understand how providing health care to all Americans will end America as we know it?
The last time the people in this country listened to Republican leadership about someone having WMD's it cost us 4,000 American live's and billions of dollars . Yet sorry no WMD's? Hey we got a bad guy out of power?
Maybe 'curveball could chime in on this/'

Selective stops are more like turn a blind eye. Saw pd up my street and thought they were watching the 4-way stop. I thought wrong after watching 2 cars run the stop sign. Couldn't have been a speed trap, not at a 4way stop either. Guess they were to busy eating donuts for breakfast to pay attention. Really? I think this city could be cleaned up if PPD did a better job around here by making the needed arrests and not looking the other way. Yes, it's more work, more paperwork and more trips to court but that's what you are being paid to do.

As far as putting themselves in harms way, that is very true. Even when working on the power lines these guys are working under poor conditions at best! The power guys for the city make over $10.00 LESS an hour than those that work for First Energy. I know that for a fact. Insurance can be purchased in many States using the Co-Op method and Ohio is one. This makes insurance affordable. City, State, and County workers can participate in this form of insurance. Unions can negotiate these costs.
Anyway, I wish that the OC could find a way to work to make this city a good place to live. I wish you could stop tearing down the people that work for this city. I have had two individuals employed for the city and they both did a GREAT job. My husband gave the city 5 extra hours every week for 20 year for FREE! You probably never knew this fact. He also assumed two jobs but got paid for only ONE! He probably isn't the only supervisor that worked hours that they weren't paid for! So I hope you can find a way to be positive at your meeting with Mr. Carson!

6:36 I have a pretty fair idea who your talking about. First I know he has been an exceptional employee. AND a city resident. Ask him when he first went to work for the city what percentage of his fellow workers lived in town? This person you mentioned not only worked for the light plant but cared about Painesville. Ask him if that same feeling was there when he retired?
The POC is fair look we would all like to believe we can be everything to everybody but realities cause us to question the way things are done. The "we've always done it this way' might have to change.
Why hasn't the city gave any thought to combine with the county for health insurance? For that matter why is Painesville self insured? Times changes everything.
Sitting on our hands will not make the city a better place to live. Getting our house in order is a start.
Mr. Carson was repectfully treated at the POC meeting. Ask him.
