"MONEY MONEY MONEY" o'jays

Some people got to have it.

Attended the special POC meeting at Morley Library last night. Members had two council people in attendance Jim Fodor, and Katie Jenkins we all appreciated them coming.

Before I go any further I have turned in my resignation as Vice-President of the POC. It seems my presence in the group, seems to attract criticism to the group from my position. Recently at a council meeting the council-president mentioned the POC  "as my little group" Nothing could be further from the truth. Look I will attend meeting but I like acting on my own. One point when the NO$ signs go out it will be understood they came from me. not the POC. Allen Watson runs this organization very well and he doesn't need the aggravation of defending me or my actions. This committee can best serve Painesville under his leadership.

Questions were brought up last night on the best way to increase revenue for the City of Painesville. The two council people in attendance believed that more cuts were not the answer to Painesville financial mess. I brought up the fact that on a $100,000 home this will cost the homeowner $1,000 over the next five years. I was corrected that the average home in Painesville is $75,000 and would only cost that homeowner $750.00. Fine now what do you tell the people in Heisley Park and/or Liberty Green?

We mentioned idea's from;
Selling the Water Department to traffic camera's. Although there was agreement of mismanagement of funds for the last 30 years, we still need additional income to attract new resident's and businesses. I asked what business will you attract with the highest taxes in the county? Well good roads was the answer. Me. before I agree to give this city another dime I will let the roads turn to dirt. Sorry. I believe the city will be better served when we starve the beast. Look they brag about no raises but just this year the city increased payroll of over $82,000 in step, and seniority pay increases.  Over 80% of city employees live outside the city. They must know something? Our water bills are higher than the County or Aqua Ohio. Why? What have we been doing about our infrastructure for the last 30 years, Mr. Fodor remarked that the city has taken the approach of  "you can pay me now or pay me later."

There seems to be a reason for every expense from Human Resources being run by a law firm, to cutting the cemeteries grass. or even the amount city employee's pay for their health insurance. Although neither knew the amount. You would think all council people council should know those amounts.

No this present council seems not to have any idea how to think out of the box, or make hard decisions.

For that reason I will go back to my lone wolf approach.

At this point I'm no on police, maybe on fire, yes on roads.

Painesville is making such a big deal about this safety levy and the pay freezes. I know other departments in the county have taken pay CUTS, in addition to freezes and not rehiring people when they retire. Painesville did not go this route when it really mattered.

Our PD has done a good job in the past, but complacency runs rampant lately, and I'm not going to pay for that. On a 1-mile walk of my neighborhood, I counted 12 cars on lawns. Not a huge deal in terms of safety, but if they can't be bothered with the little things from a quality of life standpoint, then I won't be bothered with giving them extra money.

1:05 You know I would vote for the two safety levies if the city would be honest and keep general fund dollar at the same percentage as this year X% for police and X% for fire, plus the added revenue of the two levies. According to a city council person that if you vote for the fire and police levies "it will free up general fund money to resolve other problems" No one on council corrected this comment so in reality these levies are just General Fund levies. The city has set aside $200,000 out of next years budget for roads if the road levy should pass that would mean Painesville would spend around $833,000 in roads? Now what about 2015 2016 want to bet no $200,000 out of general funds will go to roads in those years? These levies are scams all they really done is fund the general fund no matter how you slice it.

So all they're doing is looking to pad the general fund by going after the taxpayers for more money?

No, no, no.

To post 9:49 term. We should ,check our neighboring areas. WE DON'T think they spend as much from their GENERAL FUND as painesville city does, toward funding their POLICE AND FIRE departments. this may be something for council to explain at the next council meeting. WE know they have operating levies in some areas for them.

Mrs. Dinallo I believe thinks that if the capital expenditures come out of the levy and the vehicles and equipment are what is purchased form the levy
then the city would not need to take the capital out of the general OPERATING fund thus leaving the funds siphoned for CAPITAL would then be used for operating TO HAVE EMPLOYEES DO MORE IN SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY.
I know it hard to think positively but it sounds good to me.

7:41 Yes, you could be right .,but the money could also increase wages in other departments, the money saved from the general fund could be used to purchace a Carousel for Veterans Park. To be a TRUE Fire and Police levy the city must keep present funding at the same percentage level. TO HAVE EMPLOYEES DO MORE SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY....Than be honest and tell it like it is! It is not what it is sold as.Sounds like crap to me.

You want the city to farm out work they do it and you complain.. What is it you want besides something to complain about..

11:52 What I want them to do is do what they say. Look the comment from the administration wasn't until we...
Why with the size of this administration Someone/group can't do this job? So it's O.K. to outsource Human Resources but not grass-cutting?

The administration and directors should be looking over their shoulder's. Our new city manager is out in the field with the troop's and seems to burn the midnight oil under the 'Golden Dome' Yes I, and many other's have noticed.

AMEN 11:52 - You said it, Ive said and many others have too. Term is never happy about anything (maybe mac n cheese)and even if council or the city took one of his suggestions, they would botch it up according to him.
Also agree with first post that the PD is complacent and let a lot slide. If they need revenue then write tickets when they are needed.
As for the FD, what year was the last operating levy passed for them? As with most levies I believe it's old and when based on the value of homes in todays market...very clear why this place is such a mess.

3:20 I guess my problem is why so many of you seem as satisfied as pigs in mud? Maybe YOU should pass on a suggestion let's see how far that gets you?
Yes it's been along time since the last fire levy. Maybe instead og the money that the fire deptment collect for EMS runs stayed with the fire department instead of being funneled into the general fund they would have the money they need?
Then if the PD starts writing tickets the complaints will start? Wonder if tickets are down due to the upcoming levy elections? I just gave myself the kiss of death.
C Clearly at least you admit this place is a mess.
