TELL ME WHAT'S GOING ON" marvin gaye

Interesting story in Sunday's News-Herald.

PAINESVILLE VIRGIL TO HONOR MARCH ON WASHINGTON

National groups will recognize Wednesday 50th anniversary of the March on Washington and Martin Luther King Jr. "I have a Dream" speech at the Lincoln Memorial by voicing concerns about rights for parallel - individuals who are homosexual and undocumented immigrants.

Now Wednesday evening at 8:00pm the event scheduled in Veterans Park on the square in Painesville, is presented by Cleveland Jobs with Justice immigration committee along with HOLA, with support from Organize, North Shore Federation of Labor, United Church of Christ, Ohio Prophetic Voices, Dream Activist Ohio, Workers United and Service Employees International Union.

Now it appears to me that the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington is being Co-Oped by some other groups? It seems to me this anniversary has enough history to be a stand alone vigil?

Those other groups should all have there own forum to stand on this anniversary was the hallmark of the soon to be passed Civil Rights Bill.

This appeared to me to be another step in the illegally correcting the enslavement of African-Americans by this country not a justification of the illegal entry into our country. Maybe if Reverend King hadn't been assassinated he might have addressed these other issues?

Although a Priest are not to be political at Mass I was told to send email, phone calls to my congressman to be in favor of passing comprehensive immigration reform. What Jesus preached  treating our fellow humans justly, and kindly, as we would like to be treated and I have to wonder what he exactly meant when he preached welcome the stranger? If I had the answer's to these question's I wouldn't be on this blog.
At the same time during Mass when the Priest was addressing the congregation on this subject of these 12 million illegals., I wondered what would would Jesus say about a country as rich as the United States having 30 million people without health care, Please Father address this topic also.

My thoughts on Wednesday evening will it be about remembering Reverend King historic speech or pushing some one's political agenda?

During all my life in Painesville it seems every group has used Veterans Parks as it site? from the 9/11 remembrance, HOLA, Rally Group, Child Abuse pinwheels, Tea-Party, all activist groups seem to view the Park as welcoming even the screwballs from the KKK.. Maybe it's the people of Painesville that are welcoming?

A couple of thoughts.
1) Why is it that Painesville Park is the location of so many demonstrations? Why not Willoughby, Madison, Thompson, Chardon, or anywhere else that has a centrally located park?
2) I have long wondered what Dr Martin Luther King would think about his "dream" today?
Was his idea to give away as much free stuff as possible or was it to provide an opportunity for equality in order to raise your standard of living, by working for and earning it?
Just makes me wonder.

Yes, political protests in the Veterans Park can be viewed as questionable. Religious uses are also frowned upon by the new politically correct society we now live in. How about Party in the Park???

The name of the square is Veterans Park. Isn't it to honor our Veterans? Would most of these events take place in a cemetery? No.

So, as a veteran, I disagree with including a remembrance of 9/11 where men and women of the military, fire, police and let's not forget the thousands of innocent people killed on that day with groups such as KKK or HOLA.

Also, we are to have this event at the same time our city chases the homeless from the square almost daily. Are these people less important than those MLK marched for or HOLA demands equal rights for??

So, are we racist, politely correct or compassionate? Who do we really need to point the finger at, the other person or ourselves?

maybe we should all just ignore them, by saying we I mean the media as well as the citizens than maybe when they see that nobody gives a rats a** about their demonstration they will go home, the more people paying attention to them the longer they will be out there to justify their law breaking

9:38 I think his dream of along with equal opportunity would include opportunity. Where has capitalism sent the jobs? You can't expect people to be productive without having jobs that pay a decent living.
1:49 I see your point but should Veterans Park be viewed as sacred ground? Look the patriots that fought and died for this country must view the peoples right to protest as the reason for their service?
8:43 My only point was the March on Washington should have been viewed as an historical event and not viewed as a demonstration.

Fodor see's city employee's jobs more important than the well being of residents.
He will increase income tax or cut more services before he would lay anyone off.

Both MLK and 9/11 changed America forever. We should remember both.

I have a problem with terrorists at 9/11 and KKK at MLK.

Also Martin vs Lane.

These actions only divide us more. Who do we blame? Media from the NEWS and internet all the way to blogs and fringe groups. We must also include the government from the top on down choosing sides in local crimes.

Let's get to the root of the crime problems and not listen to all the hysteria the media shoves down our throats.

Wasn't that the goal of MLK?

Let'e see what Wednesday brings. Will it bring us closer together or divide us more?

I Have a Dream.

I wonder who is more important to today's administration?

Illegal immigration.
Gay rights.
Civil rights for Blacks

Not sure Martin Luther King marched for the first two.

To 9:38 Painesville is the County seat and has always been considered the "center" of the county.

to 1:49 - Perhaps someone out there has information on when the park became Veterans Park. As I recall from some presentations of local historians that Veterans Park was laid out in Painesville earlky days as the town commons in keeping with original New England traditions of the settlers of the Western Reserve from Connecticut. The town commons in New England were typically located in the center of town and used for public gatherings. These gathering could be political, religious or even public hangings if you read history.

Now if when the park was designated Veteran Park there were stipulations added to its uses that would be good information to have and use to approve proposed uses. If there were no stipulations then it is being uses as it was originally intended.

I don't care if MY town is the county seat, the city should do something about this. I heard it would be illegal for the city to deny anyone the right to do this. But I gotta wonder why here all the time. Do other cities have this policy written different? So the city should look at others and follow their example. Someone from the city should have been to this rally and put a stop to it as soon as it was no longer what was presented in the beginning. Stop this nonsense.

Please remember: the 1st Amendment to the Constitution, that our representative in congress office is in Victoria Place, Painesville is the County seat, and that town squares were developed for public assembly

1:31 3:32 is right, look HOLA can use the Park, the Rally Group can also use it.
It has nothing to do with what you 3:32 or myself agree with.

I will share this with all of you. In today's News-Herald on the editorial page Esther Cepeda wrote an article that eveyone should read.
I will print her last paragraph.

Any real shot at an immigration compromse-one that codifies who gets to stay and who must leave- will depend on accurately separating perception from reality, and neither side helps advance that difficult task when they pretend that 11 million people are all angels or devils.
