'ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER" fixx

'Say what you mean?'

Let's go back to the June 17,2013 council meeting for a second.
Mr. Ken Marcinko, of Concord stated he has served on the Senior Citizen Board for 6-7 years. The Painesville Senior Center is the only one in the state that has a private owner. At this time they are looking for a merger with the city. The personalities of both will help provide  more services. He looked forward at a merger with the City.

The Painesville Area Senior Citizen Center non profit. Privately owned? Go to the secretary of state website. Their article of incorporation are there- it is not privately owned as he claims, as he would like you to think. The only one in the state?
See this is what you get when people stand up at meetings and talk about things they clearly know nothing about. Along with people like myself and council who have no idea what they are talking about. Bill Horvath thinks the seniors need a new center? Where will that money come from?

Who presently owns the Senior Citizen Building? County value $325,000. Does the property transfer over to the city.

It seems to me that after last Monday night council meeting the city hired a director for $45,000? When I questioned  them if they were using general fund money, they said no? Why than were they using Painesville employee guidelines? Am I to understand that if I work for a "Private' company that the city will determine my wages? Even though they are not paying them? Will I be part of the city hospitalization and retirement plan?

No one on council asked what are we doing involved in a 501C 3.

To pay this new director where will the funds come from? Maybe we have found a new revenue  stream?

Now in todays News-Herald we see we are flipping the hotel again. Does this have something to do with this?

Soon we will find out what we got ourselves into, hope it's a good thing?

###################################################################################

PARTY IN THE PARK IS NOW OPEN!!!
( PLEASE BEWARE AND DON'T STEP ON ANY DOGS BY MISTAKE)

Update/// What would PITP weekend without a major rain storm?

Usual flooding in all the usual places, Cedarbook area, North end State St. Hine Ave., major flooding at the end of Chatfield Dr You almost have to see the lake at the end of the street.. Both underpasses. If I missed anyone please fill us in.
Don't bother going to Walgreens Painesville. The roof collapsed.
Today is July 20, 2013. The big flood of 2006 hit I believe on July 27th? Anybody see a pattern here?

Perhaps call someone who knows rather than conjecturing with conspiracy theories. The 501C3 will remain because the Senior Board will remain. The current employees of the senior center are staying on staff, and being paid by the same funds that HAVE been paying for them (the senior funds). The board will retain ownership of the building I would assume, but then again there have also been talks about the church purchasing that property for quite some time. Perhaps that will happen now? As for the hotel - I would guess that the "proposed" use must have been pretty awful for the City to adamantly say no.

Please 12:49 Take the lead on this.
Mr. Lewis and I are presently pen pals on two other issues.
See in reading your comment what would Painesville be contributing to this?

Look I can only hope you can get the Memorandum of Understanding from the city or the center and come back here with the facts.

Maybe the 'proposal' was the same one as long ago to make non-violent offenders, DWI's be housed in the hotel to serve three days?

Call whoever you want conspiracy? First a private property owner owns it, sells it to the city for peanuts, city sells it to Port Authority, Port Authority sells it back to Painesville?
Only the hotel and one person is constant in all this?
And you wonder why I wonder?

Speaking of Party in the Park, how is it cars can not drive around playing loud music (dont take this the wrong way, I dont like music that makes my ears bleed) but PIP music was so loud we could hear the words perfectly to sing along to it while at rec park for a picnic? Seems double standards and hypocritical too.

post 10:26. Ask Jim Fodor the councilman, who wants to help the city, WHY, they have such a function in the center of town????? The rec. park is a more suitable place. However we have the BRAINS on council presently. ( lets hope not to much longer.)

on the north end of elm needs cleaned out and the over flow needs repaired.

I went to Party in the Park and I saw people I hadn't seen since last years Party in the Park. I had a nice time. I agree with Sandy it one of the few things the City and PCIP do well. I met the new City Manager and new Superintendent. Mr Carson was very pleasant and smiled alot [don't remember Les or Rita being that friendly]. When I introduced myself to Doctor Sheppard he said "please, call me John" I actually giggled and said "well, OK John" [don't remember the good Doctor Handout ever saying anything quite like that]. I know it early and these are small gestures but this citizen of Pville is hopefull of the new blood in town. Time will tell.875facizin

Yes it is quite a change this leadership brings.
PITP just seems to have outgrown its space. People claim it can't be moved to Rec Park because of a lack of electricity?
Look yes its a great idea, I question do we really need how many places selling custom jewelry? You might believe if you told the merchant you will be the only one selling this we might get more for the money renting the space? It just seems overly crowded. Great to see people you haven't seen in a while.

A letter I was asked not to print claim Veterans Park is not the place for in their words 'shindig for rowdy crowd.' It should be considered hollow ground........ Yes and at the same time many of those rowdy veterans loved a good time and looking down might appreciate people enjoying themselves? I guess its all in how you want to look at it?

We went to PIP Friday night for the first time in years and had a great time. This is one thing Painesville is doing right and we hope it continues. We stayed until nearly 10pm and saw no bad behavior.

We're on North State and got a foot of sewage in the basement - not the City's fault. Climate change is real. The WHY of it may be debatable, but it's happening. More heat + more moisture in the air = more heavy rainstorms. We are going to bite the bullet and get a backwater valve installed. We feel blessed that we CAN and our hearts go out to everyone who is dealing with this crap - literally.

anyone know why Party in the Park wasn't streamed again this year? Don't live in the area anymore and I was looking forward to watching it. Oh well...maybe next summer

10:20 Storm water or sewage believe it or not there is a difference. Sewage should never backup in basement. The are spending $368,000 on a truck that would stop that. Before installing a backwater valve find out first what could happen to the sewage pipe leaving your house?
I met many people this weekend that don't see it as debatable.
10:20 This bunch can't even 'stream' a council meeting.
Consider yourself lucky.
Anybody that wants to complain about my answer? Feel free to answer their question.

I have been told Mr. Fitzgerald is in Ireland is he running for council or not?

So, who are the people in charge of the senior center? My understanding is there is one lady running it and 2 helping her. All being paid through the center funds and none from the Painesville coffers? Fact or fiction? Do these 3 have names to put with a face?

A collapse of that type to close the store and that didn't make the news? We were flooded again in Cedarbrook. Thought that 1000 year rain went by fast. Time flies whether you are having fun or not. My question, again, is with the basin in front of Heritage school. WHY wasn't there any water in it,(there never is) again? Is that causing more problems for us? Saturday morning part of Cedarbrook was closed at the other end this time. I'm very tired of this happening and the city doing nothing about it for nearly 50 years.

Well Im getting forgetful. I forgot to mention the new restaurant FATS - Flavors Around the Square. No worries I won't steal your thunder as you already mentioned it. But we have eaten there a few times it it was very good. The menu is a throw back to the Flavors that burned, but not ran by the same person. I recomend it. Just check the times as they are not open late every evening, understandable but yummy.

Quite a bit of flooding in liberty greens too, even a councilman got hit. Residents have been fighting with the city to FINISH the proper installation of drains in their backyards. No water can flow to the drain the way they set it up. It's almost as if the city ran out of money to finish the job in there. Constant battle with engineering dept and yet more flooded basements. This shouldn't be happening.

Unfortunately as I understand it, in many older sewer systems, the storm sewer lines and sanitary lines are not entirely separated, and under extreme conditions when the storm sewers can't handle the water, they overflow into the sanitaries and that's what causes your basement sewer backup. Since Painesville can't even afford to maintain the STREETS and residents are tapped out, I doubt this will be getting fixed in our lifetimes.

Unfortunately due to years of problems we are rather intimately aware of the condition of our sewer line; most of it is new except for one small section which will likely need to be replaced if we do proceed with a backwater valve. But we talked to someone who has one, and everyone else on her street had sewer water in her basement - she did not.

Is it the fault of the city or the developer?

I am sorry but basements flooded in Mentor, Eastlake , Concord, Painesville, my basement took water for the first time and it was built in the 20s. That rain was too much for anyone to handle.

1:01 I believe you mean Liberty Green? They didn't spend all that money on a home to spend Party in the Park weekend, to become Party in our sewage filled basement?
6:07 Tread carefully you don't want a bigger mess. You seem to understand how it works.
2:04 First time ever? I have a Mr. St.James, Mr.Campbell, Mrs. Cimaglio and many more that will tell you how fortunate you are.
So it's the first time, happened elsewhere, why worry it's not my problem?

Am I the only one with concerns for the basin in front of the school? I pondered prior why it never has water in it, no thoughts Mr C? You have had a few meetings about this area and the frequent flooding. Has this been addressed before? What was the outcome? Perhaps Mr. Hanlon will donate the 111,000.00 back to the city if this is P.P.Planning on the schools part?

12:54 You might have to hold your breath if the flooding gets any worse here?
The Basin... Remember the show on PBS Conjunction Junction?
Well we talk about that Basin all the time. Is it a REtention Basin or a DEtention Basin? Only the city engineer knows for sure.
One hold water to be dispersed quickly and on for longer time. The one in front of Heritage Middle school? Is just plain worthless. It presently only holds air.
I guess everyone who gets flooded in the Cedarbrook area their Blood pressure must elevate up everytime their property suffers a flooded basement and the retention basin on Cedarbrook is bone dry?
I would suggest to the city to pump water into it just to keep us all from looking at a dry basin?
This city has many flooding problem and the one I get the biggest kick out of with all this heavy flooding this past weekend why was Gristmill, Milstone as well as Rec Park saved from the flooding? Good planning or was the city looking in the wrong places?
Now I questioned the flooding on Canfield Ave. What amazed me was why was their so much severe flooding on the nothside of the creek but the southside between the creek and the railroad tracks nowhere, anywhere as flooded? Seems in what can be called a slum area of Painesville located behind Lina's someone many years ago appears to have constructed an earthen wall on the south side of the creek? Mr. Engineer and city public works director when was the last time that creek was cleared? Please don't tell me property owners won't let you, get a Judge to issue a nussance order do something besides give people excuses.
Mr. Carson maybe the problem isn't the flooding but the people we seem to have in leadership positions who either don't know how or could careless?
I will post a letter sent to me in 2006. It will be interesting reading to residents and especially those in Liberty Green and Heisley Park that were flooded this past weekend.

You bring up an interesting point as to why the detention basin in front of the school never fills with water when it rains. Take a few steps back into liberty greens and notice how much water is in their detention basin when it rains. It's on the backside of the soccer field. Wonder if the schools wasn't designed properly?

Gristmill, Millstone, and Rec Park didn't flood like in 2006 because the river was nowhere near as high as it got that time . . . in 2006 it reached 19 feet. I haven't been able to find how high it got on Saturday but the prediction I saw that morning was for around 14 feet and I'm not sure it reached that. I think overloaded sewers and storm drains caused more problems this time around than the river itself did. Also if I remember right in 2006 we got 11 inches of rain. We got 6 inches on Saturday. Still a LOT of water.

4:08 I'm aware of that fact and please remember a new bridge was being built across the river on RT. 84 that acted like a dam.

Remember also with that flood we lost a lot of tax revenue?

6:16 I have no idea.
Also don't expect that donation, but you already knew that.
