"GOOD-BY YELLOW BRICK ROAD" elton john

Pretty much a normal Monday Council Meeting.  Community Block Grants were voted on. Anyone want to bet against where the money will be spent? Most of it will go to property owners in downtown Painesville. This along with a new entrance to Recreation Park.

A report from the Finance Director on the current city finances.  The Chief of Police report on the methlab on South State St.

Then Council-President Hada dropped what I consider the announcement of the night.
Councilman Hada will not seek a ninth term this November. Choking up a bit He and Wife Mary together have combined to served the community on the school board as will as city government for over 50 years,.

Joseph has served with three different city managers, 38 different council people and has served the people of Painesville on council for  half his life.

He wanted to make this announcement early so other candidates could get their campaigns in order.

That changes the game more than a little bit.
Best of luck to Councilman Hada in whatever he chooses to do.

This is wonderful, wonderful, wonderful news. With him and McMahon out, maybe this city can start turning around, and maybe it can start being a city FOR the people, not against them, and maybe we can get all the liars and abusers out.

Thank you for this blog; I think it is in large part responsible, along with the fact that he must know he is going to have to answer to all his boondoggles in the upcoming election, and there is just way too much to explain away now. That, added on to the fact that they can no longer get away with lying about Murphy during elections to keep him from winning a seat on council.

Please, I hope nobody runs against Murphy. Let's just get him in there now. Anyone else that wants to run, please run for a different seat.

Hallelujah! Maybe it was all that talk of the church and people trying to help out on a previous part of your blog that helped us out here. At any rate, thanks, God...much appreciated. Wonderful news.

7:03 Wonderful news? Look how many have you have ever given this person input? The blog.? Really If anything just the opposite. He's leaving on his terms.
What I remember most is half his life on council. How many meetings, events. It was time for him to move on.
Look I've cancelled three comments already. If you want to leave a comment, at least pretend you had to sign it.

Time will tell. I remember when they voted Bill Horvath out thinking it was a plus but Crazy Hal was a bigger embarassment. The School Board went south after Sean Siebert, Mary Hada and Andy Thompson left. Not all change is good change. Good luck Joe Hada and lets hope someone better steps up.

I wonder if the new city manager is aware of this site? Along with realizing in a short time he will be dealing with idiots such as yourself?
You are destroying this city.

I have sent him emails and met the man in person. He has never responded to one letter. Why can't he look me in the eye when I ask questions in person? Why did he change the subject and walk away? I was not a John Murphy fan until I watched what Hada and his group did! Then on top of the underhandedness he reported JM to the state board of elections? I watched and couldn't believe my eyes, in a town of less than 20,000. Yes, he did serve half his life on council but I ask; at what cost and to whom?

So here's what happens next. Hada last day is December 31. Shortly there after part-time law director will retire. The new city law director will be Joe Hada Jr.
As much as things change they stay the same.

I am wondering how Mr Gurley will fair through the changes. He was never held accountable for the AMP contract. I hope someone will hold him accountable for something someday.

And yes, be careful what you wish for. That said, I do not agree this blog has taken the city down, the administration did that for us.

" That said, I do not agree this blog has taken the city down, the administration did that for us."

Truer words were never spoken.

Sometimes I agree with the things that are written here, sometimes not. Bottom line should be that this blog makes you think and, hopefully, ask questions.

In a perfect world we could elect representatives who would go forward and do what is best for the people. That is what leaders are supposed to do. (Keep in mind that what is best for the people may NOT be what YOU want). The problem is that these leaders have agendas and they have people they are accountable to and those aren't the voters.

The best thing any of us can do is to ask questions, expect answers, and vote the other way when the answer seems bogus.

We have the power of term limits every time we vote. If you keep electing the same people, what kind of results were you expecting?

Here is an example of why it couldn't work with me on council.
First I wouldn't vote on something May 20th that must be in by May 28?
Knowing the city directors had known about this since April 18.
Department Recreation head Lee Homyock suggested that new signage and improvement to the Park entrance. Doug Lewis stated a large number of new outsiders coming to Rec Park probably due to Lake Erie College sport teams playing there.
Now to me what happens before they get to Rec Park.
Your son plays baseball for a team in Indiana and you decide to see him play. Yes you could have GPS but lets say your driving east on Rt. 90 north on Rt.44 you get off at Rt.84 now what ? which way to Rec Park? To LEC? to Painesville's esteem downtown. That where you need signage to promote yourself. not at the foot of the Park?
Same to coming into Painesville on Rt.2 on Richmond St.
You will see a sign on the direction to KFC, McDonalds but Rec Park?
And in the end is this the best use of funds for the people of Painesville? Not to me. and painting empty storefronts and at the same time hearing this money is meant for low and middle class residents. Sorry Katie this money could have been used for roads. this year next year and years in the recent past. We even put eBeeGeeB money (thanks Lori) into Milstone in our recent past.
Wouldn't fit in sorry.

How is this wonderful if you don't have a clue what will fill the void?
You can count on someone running against Murphy.
What will get this city turned around is getting involved.

I guess I believe Joe Hada did the job to the best of his ability and EIGHT straight times Painesville residents voted for him.

This is 7:03. Okay, so this isn't wonderful news. And he left on his own terms -- what did you want me to do...shoot him? And how involved do you know me to be or not to be. I've been involved in fighting this city and the way they do business since I moved here -- so much so, that I seem to be their Public Enemy No. 2. And did I ever give Hada input?!!!!! That's funny, and you know it. My experience was consistently the same as May 21, 7:02 a.m.'s. So, so sorry, for a minute there, I was happy, and I thought it was wonderful news. Guess not. Give me a break.

12:09 I'll give you a break. Joe Hada not running is NOT the solution to the ills of Painesville.
Look what if the people elect someone to council that makes Joe look like a gem?
What should make you happy is if that position is filled that makes Painesville improve.
Something tell's me no one will ever satisfy you.
Always be careful of what you wish for.

Term 2:07. This is 12:09. Okay, so again, I guess I can't be happy that Hada is out, because he is not yet replaced by someone we feel is better. Sorry, but I can be happy if want to be, and it is a good thing he is out, and I AM happy. And then you go on to say that "Something tell's me no one will ever satisfy you. Always be careful of what you wish for." That statement has no context here, and there is absolutely no justification for it. Why would you think that nobody would ever satisfy me, just because I am happy that Hada is out? If you want to talk about Flock again, go right ahead, but quit with the camouflaged attacks on other issues. What you are saying to me here about Hada is stupid. And your statement that nobody will ever satisfy me is stupid, too. Again, if you want to start up about Flock again, go right ahead; I'm game if you are. Maybe if you and your friends had quit sticking up for Flock all these years, he would have actually had to do his job. I AM happy Hada is out. It IS a good thing, and I am NOT responsible for all of his years of horrible service to this city anymore than I am reponsible for Flock's years of negligence to his ward and to the people in his ward.

3:19 EBEGE B funds? How about taking the funds to fix the entrance from all the fees the city charges to use the Park? Where are your priorities? I guess we need that money for what up keep for the Park?
I believed it was mentioned the CDBG funds priority was for low and middle income projects? I guess those downtown properties must be owned by homeless people?

11:21 I have known Joe for over 50 years. I always considered him a good person and a friend.
The problem with Joe has cropped in the last ten years. Starting with the 3.9 charter change, to the way that I was surprised he treated two of my best friends. John Murphy, Andy Flock. I could not believe what I was seeing. This goes to the allegations that Mr. Murphy grabbed our city manager. No arrest, no mention and only finding out about it from papers filed in Columbus. I have kept quiet about this from the beginning and my eyes don't lie. John never came close enough to her to grab her. Andy has served on council for some time yet at times is viewed as the square block into a round hole. At a council meeting Joe claimed Andy should be charged with malfeasants for his vote on a housing issue. What you can't vote the way you want?
Then deals like Milstone, and AMP-OHIO. Joe seemed to have blinders on.
Look Joe will soon be gone he is history, I guess my main concern is that some of you believe things will automatically get better.
At this stage without sounding hypocritical. To Joe I wish him well for the rest of his life.

12:14 He is a she.

12:46 This site has always been open to him.

If you want the city to improve? More of you start attending council, as well as board of education meetings.
Remember:
People lead and leaders will follow.

What makes you think Murphy will make any changes. He talks a good battle but I sounder what he re ally means . Does he have som etching he wants. Like something to benefit slum lords, or making it better for people who have rental property, like making sure that none collected water bills do not have to be paid by property owners. Everyone has an agenda for them. Thar is why we have all these problems. We need more people who are there to help the city and those that live here.

Would he have voted for that fire truck on first reading? Never
Would he have passed this week CBDG this week. Never.
Do I believe John would serve more than one term if he didn't see improvement. Can't do it in four will pass the torch.
5:18 My comment has nothing to do with John. It was asked if Joe would endorse him. My answer When Pigs Fly. Never ever going to happen.

A word of caution, John Murphy was advocating the city building and opening swimming pools at a meeting I attended the last time he ran even though we all could see that tougher financial times were coming. I am not so sure he is the financial conservative many here claim that he is.

At May 30, 2013 at 1:55 PM , Anonymous Thats Crazy said...

Open a community swimming pool? With what? Who is going to pay for it? The residents? I see this as another YMCA plan. Those who can, pay those who can't come for free. So when those that have paid come to use it, there isn't any room for us and it't trashed.

At May 30, 2013 at 2:15 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

I believe the point John was making about public swimming pools was that every other municipality in Lake County has a least one pool.
When Painesville was rolling in the dough in the 90's where was that money going?
Presently a pool might seem very low on the needs of Painesville. It's just another example of where Painesville decided to spend its money. Recreation? Roads? Infrastructure? Or Spending it on themselves.

At May 30, 2013 at 2:37 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

He was advocating the swimming pool issue at a time when we knew less money was coming in due to the hospital leaving. That's what scared me from him then because it showed he had no sense of priorities either. He is as big a nut job as any of the ones in there now. By the way some of those other cities have closed their pools due to lack of funding.

At May 30, 2013 at 7:09 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Well at least they have one. Eastlake is the only one presently closed.
And why and who is responsible for the hospital leaving? Who in Painesville forced the hospitals hand?

At May 31, 2013 at 5:19 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term those that ran the hospital at that time wanted to leave for one reason to avoid paying city income tax. The doctors is who moved that business not the city

7:09 You keep believing that myth. The same one that promised a urgent care in town.

I guess my question is why haven't they moved Lake West or even the Cleveland Clinic? As Term mentioned keep believing the myth.

Sorry, you keep believing your own little mind. The above people are correct. The hospital DID NOT want to be here and they left. I have several friends and family that work there. No money in Painesville to stay. Blame the city but you are wrong. Ask the employees that know a thing or 2 more than you do. What will happen to Tri PT with the doctors leaving? Are you aware of this happening? They are bidding out for a new group to come in. Are you aware the majority that keeps the hospital afloat is the ER calls? Not those going there for doctors and surgeries. Cant wait for CC to begin and finish in Mentor.

At May 31, 2013 at 8:05 AM , Anonymous YOUR CRAZY said...

I guess all these people should come forward publicly. Working somewhere does not qualify you to know. The hospital system wanted the administration to aquire land for them through eminent domain. If they were leaving why purchase more property?
My physican can't stand Tri-Point he was happy where the hospital was.
Yes and I have worked in both places!
Now that I think about it it seems very few are happy with the promises of Tri-Point.

At May 31, 2013 at 11:30 AM , Anonymous Thats Crazier said...

You don't think those people are going to come forward and stand up against the hospital do you? Would you? Did you? That's career suicide. So why am I so crazy when your doctor doesn't like TriPt and you even said there aren't many happy people with their empty promises? That was my point, you helped alot.
