"THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT" the who

Painesville will be facing a 4 mil school operating levy this November. We have been told drastic cuts in many programs from class size to sports even busing.

Lets evaluate this for a second this school year and until August of 2013 are funded at the present rate of compensation from the State of Ohio and local tax dollars.
Now lets first see what kind of funding the State of Ohio will give us for 2014/2015 before we sign on to another operating levy. At the time the state past it's last school funding bill Ohio was at over 10.4% unemployment presently the claim is it is down to 7.4% so we can assume Columbus has more cash in it's coffers this time around. When they look at Painesville's finances could they believe since Painesville passed a levy we don't need to send them as much money? I don't even know if they even think this way just something for you to think about.
Present view of our system shows many areas need improvement the scandal and student evaluations along with our dropout rate is nothing to right home about. Are we improving? I believe we are. As far as the scandal I don't know if we will ever see a conviction but at the same time every individual in authority that had knowledge of what transpired must be known to the public. The police report must be made public and if someone in authority kept things under cover I want the opportunity to ask them why? Will  passing the levy vindicate the school administration as well as the school board?
Nothing every changes if you don't make an attempt to get to the bottom of things and make corrections.

Even the signs don't seem to tell the truth  "For the Kids" it's an operating levy and being so the majority of the money will go to administrator's, teacher's and other related staff. Maybe to replace a school bus or two but the buildings should presently be in excellent shape. You have to ask yourself if the administration should be running a transportation, custodial company as well as a food service company? Voter's are the only ones who can answer that question. They should remember they do not operate in a vacuum but in the real world
How many in the private sector will be receiving 2% 3% annual raises in the next couple of year?.

How deep are Painesville's pockets? You as a voter must decide that if presently we are spending over $11,000 a school year on every student. The  question must be asked how much is enough?

This vote for the schools must also be weighed on if you can afford another tax increase or not. You better than anyone else knows if you can or can't afford another tax increase and your belief it will improve Painesville's student's educational results.

Road Levy
You have to ask where has the administration been as these roads 19 miles of them fell into disrepair? Buying riverfront property near Fairport Harbor? $250,000 in general fund dollars that could have been used on a road here or there.
My own thought on the road levy? Council members are getting tired of residents asking about conditions of our roads. If this road levy passes they can claim it will be a start and we will get to your street as soon as we can. The levy by the administrations number will only add to a little more than a half mile of road repair a year. On the other hand if it doesn't pass they can tell residents "We put a levy on the ballot but it was rejected by your friend and neighbors".  What can we do?
We recently received a grant for $600,000  along with a city match of over $270,000 to repair two blocks of Main St. Is this money well spent? Look at what other communities ask for in grants for road repair. Anyone else spending $900,000 for two blocks.
Sorry until I see the city using taxed dollars properly I'll keep spending my money  on front end alignments, as well as tires. No way period on the road levy.

Metro Parks Sorry voted NO, but it some how passes every time a levy comes up.

I don't want to live in a community that has state minimum busing for our students, a community that has no junior high or high school sports, no marching band, no full day kindergarten. We voted down the levy last time and they cut $3,000,000.00
Our schools are not perfect far from it, but I believe we are moving in a positive direction. My family and friends plan to vote YES just like TERM'S Mom.

Some like 9:53 keep wanting to reward failure. Fine, just don't complain about what might or might not be going on in our schools.
Our schools are not perfect? What an understatement. I and my family members all will be vote No. I for one could care what Term's mom vote's for.
$33.00 an hour for bus driver's $70,000 Kindergarden teachers, God know's what the operating expense is at the administration building.
This levy is nothing but blackmailing the public into extortion. Against the community by over paid employees who don't even live here.

It's a question of economics. If the levy fails the value of my home will go down more than the purposed tax increase. If you think it's hard selling your house now, try selling a house in a school district with bad test scores and in state recievership. Call it blackmail, call it extortion but I see no value in voting no, I plan to vote YES.

No bus drivers make $33.00 an hour. The district has cut millions out of its budget and continue to do so. What the public doesn't understand it care is the state and federal govt mandates certain things from these districts and then cut the money they give to them. I will vote yes and encourage all of you to do the same The district employees have all taken pay freezes and paid more for health care and will continue to do so.

Springboro is JUST like Painesville....17,000 people in the city....16,000 white, 500 Asian, a little more than 350 black....yes a demographic just like Painesville.....

For that matter, why can't the Indians win the World Series? They spend less than the Yankees, just like Springboro...

No one around us has a population like Painesville City. I bet the majority of the parents in Springboro support their students and expect them to succeed. This parental support is lacking here in Painesville. We have many parents that are supportive, but way more expect the schools and teachers to do what they should be doing at home. I bet Springboro doesn't have that problem.....

6:10 pm you are absolutely correct! That said, you have or had an administration who did nothing to encourage parents to participate. Yes, they tell you they did "everything" to get parents involved. The guy steering the ship had terrible repoire with parents. He displayed this at the 50% grading presentations, often deferring to Mr Fodor. His repoire with students was even worse. I hope they are looking for someone who can look a parent and student in the eye and speak the truth without ulterior motives. Maybe now we can put a leader at the helm. I hope and pray the board seeks a Super. outside the hallowed halls of Painesville City. This is a great opportunity to find a leader who can bring parents back to the schools.

The school teachers show very little loyalty except to there paychecks. You want a raise go ask our Governor.
And double check what some of our bus drivers make.

The arguement for more and more money = better results fall flat on it's face.

Cleveland should have the best test scores in the state then.

The value of homes goes down as TAXES and ELECTRIC rates go up, making the community more expensive to reside in.

Thanks for throwing us under the bus there Term. Most of the employees that will be cut live and spend their money in Painesville. Some how you all think we don't pay taxes too. We the undeserving who buy your children's fund raising stuff who raised money for scholarships for the kids. We who spend more time with the kids than their parents but yet its all our fault cause your child is disrespectful and won't learn after mommy screams at us cause the child has the right to not listen. Cause who are we but their personnal slave cause they pay taxes. Which is funny since none of them own property to pay taxes. So go ahead and throw us out are jobs and see how quick this city dies when more homes go into forclosure and no one shops the local businesses. Just something to think about. And I know people have lost their jobs but don't blame us we had nothing to do with this crappy economy. And don't act like we don't pay taxes too. We probly pay more anyway cause you know us union scum are way overpaid

1:43 I don't believe I threw anyone under the bus.I do know you also pay income tax to the city,I'm lost about the fundraising part of your comment.
You and your peers should be treated with respect by the administration, parents and students. Who doesn't own property someone is paying property taxes.
I believe your position on people who are presently unemployed, taking pay cuts and even living on a fixed income, you somehow believe we are to ignore our current finances but it is important that we continue to make you whole in what you term a which you say is a crappy economy and vote for a levy to keep your wages going up? I don't believe you understand the realities of living in the private sector. I believe it would be an bad advise to tell people vote for this levy even though you can't presently afford to.
My position is the same as before. If you got it vote for it. If you don't vote against it.
Also I feel no more obligated to you than I would expect you to be obligated to me.

Congratulations to the present Painesville school system. Some way you have managed to lower the bar again. In 2010-2011 The system fell from Contiuous Improvement to Academic Watch.
Lets throw more gasoline, I mean cash on the fire. Try selling your home now 5:21?

1:43 I guess as a school employee you believe even though its a crappy economy we should do everything possible to keep your standard of living unaffected?
Now in the REAL world if company profits are down. Sales are off 30%along with an inferior product improve it's product line and fix costs keep rising two things can happen. The company can freeze or cut wages even hours, some benefits or it can go bankrupt putting more people on the unemployment line.
In this situation only a fool walks into his employers office and demand that hey this "crappy economy" shouldn't affect my standard of living.
You will be shown the door and asked to find other employment.
Also if it can be shown that by outsourcing your job the company will save a million dollars a year expect it to happen. Bus drivers pay attention.
The only reason you believe that Term threw you under the bus was because he told you the truth and the truth hurts.

When the levy fails, there will be no need for the City and the Schools to own and operate Jack Britt Memorial Field. I suggest we sell it to the College. We could take that money and put it into our deteriorating roads.

Hey, in all the propaganda I saw, it was mentioned state minimum bussing and the transportation secretary cut. Then all athletics gone but nowhere did I see any mention of cutting out the athletic director and secretary. Why would you keep those two positions without any athletes?

Hey 6:10-
The presentation that is on the school website says athletics AND all related positions would be cut with a failed levy. This includes admin positions, transportation, etc.

At least they are trying to be upfront with what will be cut this time. In the past I felt like they were hiding something from us.

My kids don't play sports but I did. I would hate to see my Red Raiders disappear over a few bucks a month. Once it's gone it may never come back.

I've checked my facts they are as follows, please check yours because you are wrong:
Posted 9-17-12
Athletic Director’s Secretary – Harvey High School
3 Hours/Day (3 Days a Week)
Hours and Days May Vary
SOOO...back to my question...why have an AD and secretary if there are no sports????

At October 25, 2012 at 6:01 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Last time I checked Harvey still had sports. The cuts would take place NEXT YEAR. Soooo they would still need an AD and secretary for this year. Plus the secretary is PART-TIME so that is LESS THAN a full-time position.

At October 27, 2012 at 6:00 PM , Anonymous Sarcasm said...

Full or part time, you don't need either positions without sports. I did not say cut or be cut now, I was commenting on the future cuts that are coming. As stated-privatize bussing and eliminate the transportation secretary. Cutting all sports was stated but not eliminating those positions should the levy not pass. Simply said- it doesn't make sense. Why not absorb the ad secretary in with another position then wouldn't have to pay ANY benefits to the part-timer. Classified hasn't had a raise in a few years, why not double up the work load too. Save more bucks at the low end and keep more higher ups.
