'AND THE BEAT GOES ON" sonny & cher
Now for some of you who might be keeping score on our latest downtown Painesville Streetscape Enhancement project. Or as I like to call it our expensive put a wig and lipstick on a pig program.
We have also added to the mix of the $600,000 Grant, aproximately $275,000 in general fund money that could be used to pay safety forces, street improvement the city administration now has asked for the release of Federal CDBG funds in the amount of $75,000 to.... if you can believe this.
City of Painesville [Main Street Transportation and Streetscape Enhancement] CDBG funds in the amount of $75,000 will be used to unifying Main Street with Veterans Park by improving the visual connectivity of the two blocks from Veteran's Park to State Street.
You have to wonder who creatively asks for these funds?
While other communities are looking to replace sidewalks in their communities, rehabilitation older homes, ,improving health and safety of residents, So in Painesville we want to improve the sight line between Key Bank to the Park?
The slogan should change from "Shop Downtown" to "We spent all our funds here".. This project is close to costing a million dollars. When it's done we can only hope this was the best way to spend our limited resources on.

I have listened to various members of the community explain their vote on the present Painesville school levy. Without stereotyping people I have noticed this common response. Please don't put to much in this but even with our test scores, dropout rate, along with dropping from continuous improvement to academic watch people leaving from teachers to administrators, and lets not forget the scandal. WOMEN seem to believe that more money must be needed and provided to fix these things. MEN on the other hand view this more like throwing more good money after bad. Has anyone else noticed this?

No. I'm a woman and I follow these things closely and looked into the levy very carefully and I feel it is throwing good money after bad. The women in my Painesville discussion group feel the same way. I'm sure some women will vote yes, and I'm sure some men will vote yes, but I don't thing you can give an across the board assumption that men are no's and women are yes's.
No and as a woman I am happy to say I am not voting for the school levy until I see an actual change in the administration. When Hanlon clears his desk and we have a Super from outside the district, I'll think about voting for a levy. I cannot reward stupidity!
10:07/11:09 I'm glad I asked. I knew it wasn't a perfect science. Just some of the comments I've observed.
What you might have noticed was mothers with children in the district giving an impression of being for the school levy out of fear of repercussions against there children from there teacher's if they don't show a positive view of the levy. One neighbor has a sign in there yard yet I know they are not voting for the levy. Remember Term signs don't vote.
I'm a woman. I have abstained from voting on the recent previous school levies, because I did not want them, but would not vote no. This time I am voting yes. Sounds like they are down to the bottom to me, and I think they really need it.
As I man I will be voting YES for the levy! Why you ask? Because nothing will improve without the revenue needed to drive improvement. Now, if I sit back and let THEM spend the funds as they see fit, then shame on me. We can no longer sit idle and let the administration function without any level of accountability.
I have personally continued to challenge the administration...the question is will you join me. One last point...it doesn't matter who I am...just step up!
12:23 Yes I know sins don't vote. but an excellent comment.
1:16 I am in complete agreement. What if your accountibility is different than the administration or even me?
The funds are now in the mix the state as well as the unions now can decide how to approach PCLS.
Painesville has the next biggest collections of idiots running the 3 ring circus. Only community that is biggers is Galion, but we all know that is going to change.
Someone in Painesvile stand up, when is enough going to be enough ?

Same thing for Galion schools, begging for money after frivilous wasteful spending and imcompetence. You're not getting it and we are going to push the school system into fical emergency to get rid of all of them instead.
I don't think they are down to their last dime! I think a lot of dimes have been squandered. Parents, grandparents or anybody who has an interst in moving society forward better get to school. Or have a bake sale, which is now banned or think of away to motivate families back to the school house. We are talking basic needs of learning. If you can just sit and listen to a child read it will help. You have an administration who would rather plug a kid into a computer, which is needed but you also need humans who are supportive. Parents get thee to the school room.
Some things change but many basics stay the same......
Term,
Two words...Unity and Numbers!
We have to come together as a community and be unified in our approach.
We also have to realize the administrators work for us. If we can unify in numbers, get involved, and be persistent we can make a difference.
However, we consistently talk about the way our students conduct themselves but we can't come together as adults to be models for them to follow. We do a great job individually but it isn't making a difference.
Sorry for being long winded but I'm passionate about this community and our children!!!
New Bremen, Ohio
Most of you have never heard of the quaint liitle village of just 2,900 people on the western part of Ohio, but they are upto their eyeballs in the AMP mess and they finally get it.
As a percentage of power derived from PRAIRIE STATE, no other AMP community has signed up for more then them. They will likely default on their debt obligations causing a cascading effect down the line to other AMP PRAIRIE STATE communities.
Maybe in January when people in Painesville get there electric bills they might wake up?
2:04 I'm with you.
2:12 I believe New Bremen will be the first to defalt in Ohio. leaving us to pay there share of the bill.
This man will be voting for the schools.
and
No to the Metro parks talk about a waste of money, wow
This family will be voting NO to everything.
Look around our city, and schools it's seems the only part in this show on the residents part is to pay people more so they can do less.
I can't even imagine what people seem to think they can accomplish downtown? A pig in a poke.
our family of 3 voters voted YES,YES,YES
Our family of 7 voted NO, NO, NO!
And NO, No, No, NO!
These children are our future. You really don't want to invest in yours? You know they will be running the country some day. If you think theres a bunch of idiots now, just wait.
