"GET READY" rare earth

I believe this coming Monday at 7:00pm is Painesville's next school board meeting. I bet there will be more than the usual three or four residents in attendance. Please do not go expecting answers on this latest incident. You won't receive any.

Then again… you DO have the right to ask what the school policy is on issues such as these and has this been an issue in the past?

I for one cannot believe the police have been investigating this since May 2011 and the administration had no clue. In Dr. Hanson’s first news release, he mentioned he had no knowledge of the police investigation and then later he changed that to ‘we are cooperating with the police’.

One thing all Painesville residents must understand is why this blog was started in the first place. There seemed to be little or no transparency in all the Painesville public institutions. I am including the city as well as schools.

These government employees are our employees… there cannot be a policy of sweeping things under the rug. Apparently, they have the misconception that what they don't know can't hurt them… or us. Unfortunately, it seems to be SOP (standard operating procedure).

First off, if a government employee was found or suspected of embezzling school funds (no matter from where) a police investigation should have taken place. In case anyone has forgotten….these are public funds. It’s not enough to just ask for a resignation. This is not done for the benefit of the accused… but for the system(s) that do not not want to drag this out in the open for public scrutiny. The administration is guilty of CYA.

This begs the question… what else do we have no knowledge about?

We must remember people are to be assumed innocent until proven guilty. At the same time, who gets to decide the consequences?

I believe we have some truly good administers, board members, teachers and support staff… it is a shame that they have to work in an environment such as it is. What are we teaching our children?

Go to the BOE meeting ask your pertinent questions and let the people in charge know that you always expect the truth. If we are given that, then they will always have the support of the community.

I have included Dr. Hanson’s comment posted from the PCLS website;

Message from the Superintendent

David Klingenberg, one of our assistant high school principals, has been placed on administrative leave following our discovery that he may have violated the policy we have in place regarding the maintenance of proper boundaries with our students. We are investigating the matter further and also are cooperating with the police on their own investigation. The police investigation, which we learned about on August 30, 2012, has been underway since May 2011.

At this time, I’m not at liberty to provide more information, but I want to stress again that nothing is more important than the safety and security of the students in our care. We will not tolerate behavior that jeopardizes the trust the community and our students place in us.

I am going to give him the benfit of doubt here and say, he probably didn't have any knowledge of the police investigation and then ONCE he learned of it, he is fully cooperating with the police.

As far as the cafeteria worker goes, I am fairly confident there is/was a police investigation going on there as well.

Hanlon and Ward need to go, and what did ever happen to the theft in the lunch room? Were the cops involved in this? PENN STATE ... here we come!

The reason it probably took them this long is because there was no crime that took place. Do they have to inform the district if no wrongdoing took place? What if it was a false accusation? Maybe they should have informed the district so he could be drug over the coals without any evidence of a criminal act...oh wait...that's happening currently.

David Klingenberg is a good man! He grew up in Painesville spent his career teaching and coaching in Painesville City Schools- lives out of the district and sends his children to our schools.

The police investigation found NOTHING or school would have been alerted immediately. Dave didn't even know he was under investigation- we could all be under investigation and not know it!

This is what you get for being a good guy? Working hard, spending you career at Harvey ?

Now dragging this man and his family through hell!
Shame on us!

5:15 5:22 You know I've been getting the same feelings from many throughout the community.
Many are dumbfounded by all this and the people who know him tell me this isn't in his nature. For him as well as all of us lets hope you are correct.

I can't understand how you can have an investigation for over 15 months without an arrest? Unless new evidence has been brought forward. I do believe the administration was aware of this before last Thursday.

Save, as well as other people, who will remain nameless for now, have been sleeping with students, sleeping with each other and involved in unprofessional behavior with the ”higher ups” knowledge. It's about time that the scandalous nature of these heathens is exposed. Coaches, students, teachers AND administrators knew. Let the singing begin...This is just the beginning...

A final thought to think about. If these accusations are found to be false, how does this man get his reputation back?

People of Painesville!! If you don't like what is being done at the schools get involved, talked to your BOE members, if they don't help vote them out of office. It is the people that type all day on here and say Hanlon must go but continue to vote in the same relics that have kept him. Send Kalb and Dillard on their way.

People really baffle me. Everyone is going to be surprised in the end. There is not 1, but 4 alleged victims. That is 4 juvenile students. BTW, he graduated from Mentor. I do not believe it is common practice to proceed as they have without evidence or actual victims. The students are now talking and there are a few more individuals who woolly more than likely be involved also. He does have a best friend that has participated in past indiscretions before, that were reported to the board. Although they were totally unethical and borderline animalistic in their nature and lack of self control, they were not dealt with because it was on their personal time. Many things happen that are not dealt with due to the "good ole boy" alliance. Hanlon allows debauchery to proceed in an attempt to improve the face value of the district. Yes, he should go. He is not concerned with our children's welfare. As long as it doesn't affect him in mentor, he is willing to overlook it. Now I do agree to the notion that during the lengthy investigation, which has actually been going since 2010, did they not find any indiscretions that showed cause for concern and raise a red flag, or did he just get followed around and watch things taking place, but only documenting evidence to build their case as they do while setting up drug stings. I would surely hope that they were not witnessing the acts that they are alleging and did not act. Oh and don't forget the alliances he had in the district. I can guarantee his close friends knew if something was going on. Where is their liability for not reporting or at the very least, attempting to steer their friend from this behavior.Once is too much! If these allegations are true, he should be dealt with as severely as any molester regardless of his connections. And those that can be proven to have knowledge should also be held accountable. This is really a terrible situation because there are some teachers and coaches who legitimately care for these children and do try to help.

Does he get his reputation and career back? Ever?
14 years in PCLS schools- working hard putting himself through the administration program- spending countless hours doing extras for the district. Sacrificing time with his own family to help our kids out.

Will he still be let go because he broke one of the numerous board policies? As teachers are trying to do whatever they can to help these children, should they be? Maybe this is a lesson on not getting involved!

When he is found innocent by police, who in the community will help out Mr. Klingenberg? How many of you have been taught/ coached by him?

Who stands up for the good guys ? Did this RUMOR just ruin a mans career?

If that is correct, then I will certainly eat my words. I find it extremely hard to believe that what you said was going on was happening and NO students talked about it for 2 years? Please, had ANY students known about it would have made it around the school in minutes via text message. And on a side note, you certainly have a "wealth" of information. Are you in contact with the police or just spreading around more garbage that you heard was true. Again, if what you say is true, I will recant my support for him, but as of right now I find it difficult to believe.

Travis first off I don't have a clue if your talking about me or another poster?
We usually use the time a comment was posted.
What do we know other than rumors? Not much. Where there's smoke theres fire.
Many people I trust have come forward and spoken to me I have no reason to not believe what they have told me. Good and Bad about this situation.
Travis, many comments don't get posted because of names being used.
One item that keeps coming up is the "Storm Cellar Incident" What's the story. No names please.

My bad...I just replied to a comment, thought that was all I had to do. Anyway my reply was directed at 6:12.
9:39 I have heard storm cellar rumor too...an alleged sexual encounter of multiple employees in the district at the old storm cellar bar. True or not I don't know, I hesitate to believe it though.

The storm cellar is true.... 2 men, one woman in the bathroom...most of the staff at the ms and hs know about it. None are surprised....the two men are best friends....

As a former student Ward is a great administrator. She does whatever in her power to make the children safe. Hanlon needs to go definitely he is the superintendent and anything that goes wrong falls on his head. Not knowing what is going one in your own school and very sad and shows you are not fit to be in the position of leadership.

At September 9, 2012 at 9:49 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 8:27,

NO, NO, NO, NO! While it is your opinion that Ward is a great administrator, the facts are that she plays favorites (big time), plays "gotcha", and does not value a perspective if it isn't hers.

She has regular lunches with her daughter (a teacher at the middle schoo), hitches rides to and from work with teachers, and pulled four or five teachers from East Cleveland (a terrible district, by the way).

Ask anyone in the district (except her cronies she brought over) about the downfall of the middle school since she arrived.

I heard the rumor about the currently dismissed asst. principal two months ago. I called one of the BOE members to relay this information. He did not seem surprised, nor did he ask for details or how I received this information, which makes me think the BOE knew something was going on back in June.

Mrs. Ward? She is a good christian do-right person. But, only if she likes you. She is phony-baloney with the holy-than-thou act.
Two employees could be standing together and she will say "Hello ____" totally ignoring the other if you're not one of her chosen people. Great kind and unselfish beliefs huh? Do as I say not as I do.

At September 9, 2012 at 1:18 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Unfortunately, Mrs. Ward was informed about concerns involving this teacher and she said she didn't want to hear about the concerns.
Where do the citizens go from here?
Who do you go to to correct this horrible mess?
I don't think the BOE can or will do anything.
Clearly, everyone knows that the head people in Central Administration had been told multiple times my many people and they did nothing.
Where as I feel bad for the teacher's family, what about the ladies that were involved? There are 5 years worth of ladies.
I just feel so sad about this whole situation but mostly for the people of Painesville who have put their faith and trust in the administration of PCLS only to have this happen.

Bottom line- if Dr. Hanlon knew about the investigation, but did not remove this man from his position (even on paid leave), then Dr. Hanlon VIOLATED THE CURRENT LAW and should be held accountable. Both in terms of resigning immediately, but also in terms of being legally held accountable in a court of law.

What he did (if he in fact knew one day before Thursday of last week), was just as bad as the Penn State leaders who knew but did nothing.

He must be held accountable and it is up to the public to demand so!

At September 9, 2012 at 7:46 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

So who is going to address this request that he resign and when?

I think the public and ask all they want for Hanlon to resign but the Board would have to take action and I honestly don't think this will happen.

At September 10, 2012 at 5:28 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

7:46 I believe presently it's a little premature to ask for anyones resignation?

Until the community knows all the facts it seems the best course is to let it play out.

We will soon find out if all this smoke has a fire and who knew about it?

You do not fire people on hearsay.

Term,

Hold on to your seat, buddy.

There is more than hearsay available and it will be presented very soon.

Hanlon will GO!!!!!

When is this information going to be presented and by who?
The citizen need to take responsibility for our schools and who is running them. I understand the school report is coming out and I am sure we are at the bottom.
I can't understand why Dr. Hanlon is angry enough to fire this faculty member. Maybe if Dr. Hanlon had a daughter his response would e different!

I do believe teachers can be terminated for violating a code of moral ethics...so if you are swinging or carousing in public you are guilty and should be terminated. We can not tolerate this type of behavior from anyone standing in front of our children....I am sure Klingenberg's daddy lawyer will do his best to get him off.
