"STEP BY STEP" jackson browne

First educators remember you are professionals, and you should be act and treated as such. Many times people believe all that constitutes being a union member is paying dues and magically... things are solved for you. Not in the real world.
First, after reading many of the comments... some of you are working in a very hostile environment, why? This would not be tolerated in the private sector workplace.
Some of you are being "bullied" by students and parents and that's just plain unacceptable.
It must be pretty easy to deal with the problem at Jackson St. if you're not the one dealing with the problem in the classroom. Coddling parents is admitting failure.
The entire community (including parents) should feel welcome into all the buildings. When a conversation turns hostile it should end and the meeting is over... period. Nothing solved.. so what. If the building administrator chooses not to remove the parent and/or student from your area, call the police. Harsh... hardly!
Document all incidents on paper if your administrator or union representative fails to do their job. File a complaint with the police department, many of these complainants the police will be dealing with most of them in the near future anyway.
Make the problem publicly know at a Board of Education meeting. Let the public know what the people in charge expect you to put up with.

Some of you are going to have to grow some. I know it's easy for me to tell you this... I didn't invest any time or money in your chosen profession. Until you start standing up for yourselves this problem will only escalate.

As far as the Volleyball or any coach . The day that rules of the team are over ridden by a parent or administrator, go to Jackson St. and hand Dr. Hanlon your whistle and wish him luck.

Here's a secret: the BOE doesn't want to air dirty laundry in the public. Well then... make them responsible for cleaning the laundry.

When the SRO officer was not at Harvey last year, this blog. was telling the community how important that resource officer was. Where was the staff at Harvey? Certainly not at a BOE meeting requesting something be done.

If I was to go to a BOE meeting with the complaints that many of you have shared with me, they would tell me these are anonymous people who might not even be teachers'. You know they may be right.
You go to BOE meeting and you put a real face and person to the problem.
Believe me the community will be behind you. I know I will.

What might they tell you? That our success in education is outstanding? Look at our records, our acheivements speak for themselves.

You not only have a responsibility to your students, you also have a responsibility to your peers and yourselves.

If money is the only thing that counts to you then ignore this. Grab your bi-monthly check and count the days until you can retire. And then again, how much money does it take to buy your self respect?

"As the Opportunity so the Responsibility" It's more than words... it's how you must take charge to correct wrongs.

You can also air your grievances at a POC meeting. You will be surprised at the support you would receive.

Deep down inside I know this could be a great system to attend and work in.

On a happy note Welcome to Chestnut Elementary Ms. Kim Hoon

I don't know where you work, care to share? But I know, those who would go to the board meetings and speak would meet an untimley exit from their jobs. Many of us (classified) have gone head to head with administration and lost. With or without the support of the union (mostly without because the union is in their pocket). We are in a loose loose situation, can't even rely on the next step up in the union (located in Beachwood) as
they tell us to take it to our own union, well hello! If I got the support from him I wouldn't be calling you. They do not return phone calls and have been too busy to attend certain union meetings.
I believe our rep was so involved in the SB5 and she skipped out on meetings during some crucial times.
You are right about anonymous posts not taken seriously, as I pointed out before the board does not recognize this. But you can bet the farm, these posters are for real, they know what they are
talking about and they speak the truth.

Where I work? Good question the company I work for was purchased by another last month.
I wish people who work in the private and even the public sector will comment that they also don't work under these conditions, why are you expected to?
You want to get the attention of those union heads in Beachwood call them an dexplain you are starting a process to decertification of the union. Willing to bet you will here from them. All of you seem to be paying dues and not receiving much in return.
First Amendment rights seem to be trampled by some in the city. If what you tell them is the truth.
Solidarity, unity is the only thing you people lack and it's seems to be working against you.
They just pick you off one by one.
Three new principals countless teachers leaving. There's a problem.

I agree with the first poster. You can't go to a board meeting and speak out? In fact, we are told to keep our mouths shut about stuff like this. What happens in school stays in school=the Vegas principle. It would be more beneficial if the board conducted an inquiry into all of this. I'm confident that if PCLS employees were guaranteed their jobs were not at risk and harassment would not occur, that they would open up to the BOE. Also, it isn't like this elsewhere. I worked in another district and it was a wonderful place to work. Sure it had its ups and downs, like any job, but we were supported and treated like professionals.

I'll tell you what. Next BOE meeting I will personally ask for an inquiry.
I know for a fact it's not like this elsewhere.
I know some BOE members read this blog. I'm sure some will know what I am asking for.

Ask Dr. Hanlon what he did concerning two ex-football coaches and a quarterback that left the city. Even when you escape he makes your life Hell.

What happened to the coaches?

I wish you well at the board meeting but you are only gonna get more lip service from ALL of them. This is how they have been working for many years and I don't see how 1 person is going to change them when so many before could not.

1:04 It seems Devlin Culliver accepted the head coaching job at Harvey after Coach Wallings resigned.
Then Coach Culliver resigned from Harvey and accepted the Maple Hts. football job. I also belive coach Wallings accept an assistant position at Maple. Seems a Harvey player also moved to Maple Hts. during the summer. Now if his family moved to Maple Hts. I see no reason for Dr. Hanlon to file a formal complaint. People go to better jobs all the time.
THis is the story I was told.

Formal complaint? About what? The district should be looking in the mirror as to why so many people are leaving. . . coahces, teachers, principals, treasurers, and kids.

Coaches can move anywhere they want. I believe a problem arises when a player leaves a district to another one.
OHSAA has rules that must be followed. A student I understand must live with a family member to participate in that district.
If a rule has been broken this could cause a problem for the district the student-athelete is participating in.
Again, with people coming and going like this it's seems there is a problem.

Kids come and go all the time. At the next board meeting ask what the transiency rate in the district is. You'd be surprised.

8:08...that's a great point....the asst. supt (not the current one) once told me that of the students that stayed on our district from grades 1-12, 100% passed the proficiency. Now this was a few years ago, but you get to the idea of transient students....

Term,

You mentioned board members read this blog. What do they say about all of this?

While you are asking, maybe they can tell you why such preferential treatment to all the ELL employees?
Which teaching aides were hired for summer school? 3 ELL, no regular aides. That speaks volumes there. Which children need the most help? The ones that in the end don't and won't appreciate it.
Which aides stand outside all year round-rain, snow, cold, heat? The regular aides. And where are the ELL's? Inside in the cafeteria. Been this way for several years now.

11:10 They read it that doesn't say they comment.
9:55 That's an interesting observation.
1:46 ELL aides I am to assume are for the Hispanic students?
One question why would they not be asked to stand outside with the other aides?

At August 25, 2012 at 6:32 PM , Anonymous Concerned said...

Of course it's to help the Hispanics. If there are no "regular" aides and only ELL that tells me they are the biggest burden here. I'm sure the ELL can help the regular kids as the aides are bi-lingual. My point is these transient, illegal, non-speaking, non-understanding (when they want to) are an albatross around the taxpayers necks. They need to be cut loose.
BTW the ELL aides are inside, warm and dry, supervising the breakfast bunch in the morning where they have been for maybe the past 3 years. Unsure of the afternoon.
Sounds like discrimination.

I'm very sure the woman you are speaking of arrived on our shores LEGALLY. Maybe through Ellis Island? There is ONE big difference to me and that is being here LEGALLY. Not sneeking across and stealing from me.

Ellis island....Houston, Texas....it's all the same.

At August 28, 2012 at 6:09 PM , Anonymous Concerned said...

No it isn't the same and it's a real shame what has happened to our country.

At August 29, 2012 at 9:58 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, it is a shame!!!!!!

The problem is not the government, it's the guttless americans citizens who sit back and let it happen.

Stop complaining on a blog and stand together to do something about it.

Heck, you people can not stand together to get ride of a horrible, underperforming, lying high school superintendent.

Many people thought the new school board members would not be afraid of the big bad wolf (Hanlon). Quess we were all wrong!!!

Bad Moon I checked before I posted your comment. More than two people smiled and said everything is fine.
This didn't get screwed up in 6 days don't expect it to be fixed in 6 days. Keep me informed. This new principal must recieve support from the whole community.

Communication is open.
