"CAN'T BUY ME LOVE" beatles
A few weeks ago there was a story about a Michigan woman who won a million dollar's in the Michigan Lotto and still expected to receive her monthly food stamp allotment from the state of Michigan. Many including myself were dumbfounded as to why this woman still expected this freebee. Along with the state still sending her a check do they do any research?
Then I looked at what was going on on a national level the American oil companies had shown a 38 billion dollar profit for 2011. Yet the oil companies as well as many in Washington D.C. still believe they are entitled to a 4 billion dollar subsidy?
Maybe I'm missing something but will someone explain the difference to me between the woman in Michigan and the oil companies thinking?
With the country's budget in the shape it's in why are we still spending billions in Afghanistan and have 90,000 troops still in that war theater? Remember the reason for going there was to get Bin Laden.
Seems we never have money for things we should do in this country but for some reason we always somehow find the money to stay in a war?
Is there a war on women being waged by the Republican party? If your a woman ask yourself would a deer want to extend hunting season?
Our city administration has informed us that starting soon they will do the Main St. streetscape? They have a $600,000 grant and have added almost $300,000 of city revenue to the pot. Almost $900,000 to redo Main St. again. It would be interesting to see how much money Painesville has spent on that 200 yards of road in the last 50 years?
While were on the subject of Painesville, did the city receive that grant money for the bridge on the "road to nowhere". Waiting for good news!
Yes a ton of money seems to be going for things that don't seem to important to myself.
Now we propose a new Republican budget. First off we all should have "skin in the game". The elderly, the young, the rich in the poor. In the Ryan/Romney budget who has to make the biggest sacrifices and what group does it seem gets a bonus from this budget? Before voting this year ask yourself who benefits and who will suffer. If your honest with yourself it's right in front of your eyes.
Wait until we all find out who contributes to [ALEC] American Legislative Exchange Council. You want to know who provided funds and support to the "Stand Your Ground Law". And the right wants to talk about unions?

I think we must address the problems in our own backyard before we get crazy over what Washington is doing.
Had an appraiser go through our home last week. Silly us thought we would take out a home equity loan to side the old house. The bank called yesterday.
Declined! Our house has dropped in value $26,000.00 in 8 years! Even more shocked aftermi pointed out we had sunk $30,000 in remodeling since the last appraisal. Imagine my shock when told we live in a high risk city....... What does that mean?
Between schools and businesses vacating the city I think city hall is very naive thinking a bit of paint and flowers to the tune of $900,000.00 is going to fix things up.
How about tearing down those abandoned condo's or the old hotel? And I love the black plastic hanging in the windows of the old office supply building on Main Street. Good heavens even Dan Smith has rented out his old victorian shop to a Cash for Gold place on Main Street.
Buy a plot in the local cemetery because nobody is getting out of here unless you win the lottery.
Taxes on home owners cannot replace the taxes lost by Coe, Lake East and other long time businesses who are now gone.
Until the schools turn around what person in their right mind would send their kids to city schools. Check the graduation rates and test scores.
But hey keep smiling at those council meetings!
2:59 You defined the reason for this blog.
Somethings like your home depreciation is happening all over the country. For some reason its seems to be exacerbated in Painesville. The Chase Bank build sold for $359,000 on the square and last week a home on Chatfield sold for $73,000 to a councilman?
What will happen to the Coe property will it fall into further disrepair? We spend more time discussing parking tickets at council then we do important things like budgets or electric purchasing deals. Now some on council don't want pit bulls muzzled when they are walked. Look around at some of the people who own them? Think they all have good intentions for these dogs? Let alone the proper insurance? Feed me the bull that Painesville is safer then Chardon or Mentor wonder if those communities with all there problems are considered a high risk city? This city and it's leadership on the local level must believe we are stupid or drinking the Kool-Aid.
Again the only reason I presently see for Painesvilles existance is to provide 340 people with great jobs.
You can put lipstick and a wig on a pig ...but it's still a pig.
I too tried to get a loan to buy a home in painesville I was putting 1/3 down and the loan was only for 20,000 but was declined because the home was high risk as collateral even though my credit score is almost 900
When is the city going to start repairing the embankment on bank street. The longer they wait the more the cost will be to fix especially if it starts to erode the road bed. So far the only thing I see is they move the orange cones closer to the street each week.
From the other posts on the budget I see there is probably not enough money there to fix the road to get you into town, but we can set aside hundreds of thousands for gingerbread on main street.
Oh wait silly me I get it, this is part of the "master plan". Maybe we can wait until the erosion continue until it gets to South State Stree and it will then become an ODOT project since it is Route 86.
I believe that the city manager as well as I believe the Bank St. erosion is more then a city matter and in the past I have noticed the state has been involved in other areas with this problem.
More Gingerbread on Main St. aptly named. Remember when the city bricked over Main St. Between Veterans Park and St. Clair St. For a "Mall' appearence? I see this as more of the same kind of thinking. When you spend almost a million dollars who benefits?
The first thing the city manger stated the city must do is hire an engineer? Hey we're already paying a city engineer why can't he do it?
Waste and more waste.
As far as 8:53 All I can figure is that the bank doen't believe that property you wanted to purchase was worth even $20,000? There are many great home values in Painesville.
This just in:
Painesville City Council has approved $50 to improve the Oak Street Streetscape...with another "ROAD UNIMPROVED" sign.
Unreal.
