"TELL IT LIKE IT IS" aaron neville

A lot of discussion on the News-Herald web site concerning the girl that received a 30-day school suspension for fighting an alleged bully. Due to the ages of these students, we can only guess why the suspension was so severe. I will not even attempt to try to make sense of it. I’m not going to blame any parties… including the school administration.

One thing seems to be obvious; kids are different today. Remembering back in my school days there was a girl we called "witch" every chance we had. Stupid, stupid and if I'm ashamed about this after 45 years I am sure a few more are too. What we then called "teasing" is now "bullying". I sometimes wonder if that girl ever forgave us for our childish taunts. In today’s schools, she might bring a gun into the school to solve her teasing problem.

This bring up the program of Dads Of Great Students…a program Painesville Schools are trying in order to encourage students to know someone cares and is looking over their shoulders. Will it work? I don't know how effective itwill be, but at the moment it seems like the best idea around.

I can't get over the fact that a school board member must check in with the superintendent before visiting a school. Now I can understand a resident asking permission but not a school board member.

Then again, those schools are not the property of the administration, staff or students. Those schools are bought and paid for by the taxpayers of Painesville and we are reminded of that fact twice a year. We elect the board members to be our eyes and ears as well as providing the best education for our students.

Mr. Grippi or Mr. Costell or any school board member who wants to make an unannounced visit to our schools should have everyone’s blessing.

That includes the parents of those two students and the principals of the schools.

You better then anyone should understand Dr. Hanlon wanting a heads-up before a board member goes to a school.
You have mentioned that a Painesville coucilmember cannot talk to a department head without the city city manager being in on the conversation.
This is how both administration keep there power. No one will expose anything for fear of retribution from the heads of their respective administrations.
People in town never find out how bad a situation is until those two can't keep a lid on it. Usually it's to late by then but do anything positive about it.
Shelf-life? way out of date.

9:15 AM *You have mentioned that a Painesville council member cannot talk to a department head without the city manager being in on the conversation.*

The Painesville council can remedy this problem, but choose not to. Why, I ask and maybe at the next council meeting, someone should ask.

9:15 This is a charter issue. Council has for to long let the city administration run all aspects the city.
I believe many on council are comfortable with the way things are.

We want our students to follow and obey rules but a board member doesn't have to? Every Board in the country has bylaws which govern their actions, boundaries, and responsibilities. If Grippi wanted unlimited access to the high school he should not have retired.
There are several State and Federal penalties for violating Board policies.
It's only a matter of time before our school system is hit with a lawsuit directly related to the Master Bully, Ross Grippi!!!!!!

We might be hit with a lawsuit. I believe it will because of the administration pretending everything is fine and under control. When it is not.
I expect board members to be hands on. Ross Grippi as wel,l as any board member should be allowed in Harvey any time they want. Tell us what are these schools wanting to hide? It's called a public school, if they want a private school make us an offer.

Have to wonder if there will be more visits from the Chardon School Board to their high school?
Do they need permission?

*CHARDON, Ohio (AP) — A teenager described as a bullied outcast at his suburban Cleveland high school opened fire in the cafeteria Monday morning, killing one student and wounding four others before being caught a short distance away, authorities said.*

Hey bullies, take note!

See what bullying gets you. Grippi needs to be controlled.....he's a maniac!!!!!

1:34 Please explain yourself?
For the record Grippi is NO maniac!!!!!!

The real maniac is the high school principal. She has her favorites, hope they never turn on her. She has no clue what goes on behind her back.

I guess 1:34 thinks that coach that chased the shooter out of the building was also a maniac?

How long before you and the others start the blame game?
This is right up your alley along with theother goofs in your circle.

Who do You believe I will blame? Presently "WE" all should be more concerned about our neighbors in Chardon. No one should have to go through an ordeal such as this one.
Pointing fingers and making wild accusations will not bring those children back to us.
I've already heard that maybe we should arm administrator and teachers with guns?
Maybe if we all spent a little more time with these students we may stop this before it happens.

There will be a candle light vigil tonight in Veteran's Park at 7:00 pm. The organizers request people wear black/red and bring their own candles.

All of this is great but everyone that wants to end these kind of tradgedies needs to stop waiting until they happen to react and start being proactive by getting involved with our kids and our schools.

The reality of life is there are more children today than ever before who lack good role modeling, but even an hour a week spent by any adult convincing them of the value of human life will make a difference.

I was a volunteer in a program at Harvey that worked one on one with students, 120 students wanted to participate and we only had 8 adults volunteer for one hour a week for one semester.

Forget blaming others, look in the mirror, all of us!

I may be in the minority, but I think everyone, including Board members should get permission before entering the school. Not for the purpose of hiding anything from them, but rather because anyone, even people who seem totally rational and normal, can go postal. A lot of people who have gone off like this will have other saying about them "we would have never thought they would do this." So for the safety of the children, I'm for everyone being screened before entering. Who knows what is in anyone's soul. Just my thought.

Some people have mentioned that I should takedown the post by 5:28am As most of you know the times of the posts do not match when they are sent to the blog. As well as the post that followed. I debated if I should leave this up. My first thought was to show people how callous, rude or just plain ignorant some that come here are. After listening to others I believe that it should be removed. I know some of you will not agree. I really don't like to censor but that post with what has happened crossed a line.

I hope this does not fall on deaf ears. I would like to encourage the 1300 painesville city residents who voted for Ross Grippi to offer him your support by attending the next school board meeting or by sending letters or making a phone call to Dr. Hanlon and the other school board members. For some reason that I can not comprehend, Dr. Hanlon and most of the school board will not believe that our schools are in trouble. Apparently they are overlooking our poor performance on the state report card not to mention all of the negative behavior that goes unreported now that our SRO is out of the building. I'm asking for your help. Mr. Grippi knows first hand what needs to be done to improve the learning environment, but he can not do it alone and he certainly can't do it if the other members of the board refuse to listen. They may not listen to Mr. Grippi, but they will certainly listen to parents and concerned community members. Mr. Grippi needs others to stand up and say enough is enough. Please consider taking another step to help the children of Painesville. Please make a phone call, send a letter or attend a school board meeting and let your voice be heard!

I find it very interesting that the same people I grew up with and took advantage of the opportunities mr Grippi provided at the high school, turn their back on him and play the race card. Never mind the marketing trips that allowed some students to leave not only the state for the first time, but probably the greater Cleveland area. Forget the meals he bought, team dinners he provided and facilities he built often times during the summer or winter months during, that's right, vacation time. he spent more hours at the high in one school year than many will spend in five years. Now people want to say he should be arrested and charged for caring and entering schools. Look at the state report cards people, they are embarrassing. They have NOT improved! You force coaches out, why? Because your kids are not getting to play college basketball. WELL, if they had the grades and the talent they might, but they dont. It is a hard concept for a parent to grasp that their child isnt good enough or hasn't applied themself in the classroom, but it's reality. Another reality, Mr. Grippi hasn't changed, he still is passionate about his alma mater, former place of employment and hometown, but many of you have! It really is ashame and one of the reasons I will never move back! I do love the place and have many friends and relatives there, but the schools are a disgrace and this recent BS makes it even less desirable. You are attacking the people who care and want to see a change instead of working together to make the school and community a successful and safe place to be.

O.K. Now you have a new coach. Compare the records and tell us who is going to get a scholarship this year?
People it ain't the coach's fault. Look in a mirror.
I wish Mr. Grippi would get arrested then maybe all the crap that's going on will be exposed.

I must have missed something while away. Why is Mr Grippi going to be arrested? Something else I don't understand is the big to-do about board members entering the building? Yet, this silly DOGS program allows anyone signed up to come in. I would much prefer a board member walking the halls with my children than some stranger from, really, who knows where hanging around them.
Makes no sense at all, but that is typical with the leader of this sinking ship.

At March 17, 2012 at 7:10 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

I also didn't hear of anyone getting arrested. I know they do not like to have board members showing up at schools without first being notified. Wonder why?
As far as the D.O.G.S. program people are being screened and NO ONE will be left alone with a student. We may not even use the same restrooms as the students.
This is a National program that has been very well received.
