"PROMISES IN THE DARK" pat benatar

Well let’s do a short recap of Tuesday’s Council Meeting.

Time and location of council meetings will stay the same.

The budget was presented… and all I can say is there's really not much in it for the current residents of Painesville. $150,000 to repair roads. Apparently only $87,000 for sewers, plus another Tiber Creek Study…but then again it might be the same one. I bring this up only as a reference to those that ran for council with the promise to get a handle on the road and sewer problems we have here in town. Mr. D…. I know you have the residents’ best interests at heart but what do you think you can solve with $87,000?

Council must grab the reins of the budget because the only thing I see that is a priority to the administration is the administration.

Mrs. J…. great question about bids on the grass cutting at the cemeteries. Bad answer from the CM…. why not put an official binding bid out in the newspapers and find out the truth? You should demand the CM does this.

Painesville City Schools will provide the city with $15,000 to pay for a police officer at Harvey until the S.R.O. officer returns. A good start… and the schools should contribute half of the S.R.O. officer’s pay and there should be another one trained to step in when necessary. These officers should be answerable only to Chief Hager, period. I guess we all can feel a little more "comfortable" as to what is going on at Harvey now.

Mr. Green (Electric Plant Superintendent) will retire at the end of March. At this time there is no replacement planned. That’s two highly paid administers leaving in the next couple of months.

I think the Clandestine Drug issue being put on first reading is a good idea. Someone mentioned I was not in favor of passing this on the first reading because of a friend that happens to be a local landlord. That friend does an extensive background check and chooses to live in Painesville. My problem is what about the absentee landlord that would walk away from his slum property and leave the mess behind. To be paid by who. I know the responsible landlords will do the right thing, but who will be left holding the bag for the ones that are not responsible?

I wish every neighborhood in Painesville had a TIF (tax increment financing). We could put 10% down on any project we wanted and pay the man later.

I know what "Capital Improvement" I would like to see, but I will keep it civil.

The mother of a Heritage Middle School student said her daughter was recently suspended for fighting — after she tried to go to the principal for help.

Robin Love said her daughter, an eighth-grader, had been bullied over the course of about a month by another girl at school.

According to Love, the teen tried to do the responsible thing and spoke with Heritage Principal Tim Oden about five times to remedy the situation. However, the principal told the student because there was no proof, nothing could be done.

Love said her daughter even went as far as to tell Oden if nothing was done, the two would likely end up in a physical fight.

When the teen’s prediction proved true, she was suspended for 30 days.

Love said not only was her daughter unfairly punished, but the bully got off without being disciplined.

At Love’s request, on Thursday the school board held a special disciplinary review meeting in an executive session closed to the public.

Superintendent Michael Hanlon said because the

the incident, or the other student involved in the altercation.

However, in open session, the board did vote unanimously to uphold the girl’s suspension.

Separately at the meeting, the board reviewed its policies involving school board members’ rights to enter into school buildings at will.

Board Member Ross Grippi said he would like to see a change to the policy, which mandates board members must contact the superintendant before embarking on a school visit.

“I don’t see any reason why we, as board members, shouldn’t be able to walk in and see how things are being run at our schools without giving Dr. Hanlon a heads up,” Grippi said.

Hanlon said he would review the legality of such a change with the district’s legal counsel and report back to Grippi.

Currently, board members must follow rules for regular visitors — including checking in at the office — when they enter a school.

I have complete faith in Mr. Grippi.
The rugs will be removed so nothing can be sweeped under them. He does need the support of the community.
You have to wonder who's in charge to make these rules up?

NN who are you and do you even realize how foolish you look?
My guess is your another JaHada supporter left over from the 60's who hasn't come to realize the city and politicans have moved on?
Joe and Rita are the main reasons for the failure of Painesville to move forward. Both of there shelf-life have expired and we are left with the spoils.

Still no answer to who is chief Hayer? Again I say, if you can't even get a name right how should one expect you to have anything else correct? JOY: No I am not foolish nor do I look foolish. I am not a leftover from the 60's and the way you spelled 'there' in that context is wrong. So who is the foolish one now?

NN, I corrected the spelling. Thank-you for your input.
Can you please show me what the administration has been correct about in the last 10 years? My mistakes don't cost you anything, "THEIRS" cost you millions!
JOY can have her opinion same as you. So your leftover from when?
Again I ask what is YOUR vision?

My vision? What is your vision and who gives a care what your or my is? It's the vision of city council and leaders that matter. I have not heard what your vision is just constant complaints about everything and everyone... No solutions just gripes.
PS MY vision is 20/20.
