"STILL THE SAME" bob seger

Some very interesting council match ups coming this November.

First off, I believe Paul Hach is a very good family man. I have had a few conversations with his wife, who also seems very nice. That said I am presently looking at his campaign flyer. The back page listing his accomplishments seems like very slim pickins'. Morse Avenue Block Watch, Housing Task Force. He could have at least mentioned he was on the Finance committee.

Paul has run unopposed the last eight years, so the residents of Ward IV along with the whole city of Painesville have paid him $48,000 in that period. Now I ask..."for what?”

Was he involved with the city’s idea of changing the lanes on Mentor Ave.? Did he even question what this would do to traffic? Was he involved with the bridge proposed on Shamrock Blvd.? Was he involved with the nine-minute response times to Cobblestone? Flooding for Hayer Ave.... did he feel strongly enough about it to have a meeting in the past few years or just a month before the election? Has he ever questioned the city manager about the Urgent Care Center, has he ever questioned her about anything? Has he ever voted against anything proposed by her? One time in eight years… regarding construction on Mentor Ave (across from Lincoln Ave.). One time in eight years.

Now what has he voted for. He voted for the purchase (along with six other council people) of the property along Richmond St. You know the one I mean, the property mostly in the Grand River. $250,000 for a piece of worthless land that now has the moniker of ‘Horvath's Lagoons’. This was the first sign I had that something was not right under the Golden Dome. One excuse Paul had was a vision of a walkway into Lakeview Bluffs. Great… does this walkway take us past the waste treatment plant? The 3.9 mill Charter change Levy that proved to be a bust going down in defeat by 80% of the Painesville voters. Wonder to whom he was listening at that time.

Meigs County AMPGS… well he voted yes and you are left holding an approximately 2.7 million-dollar bag that you received absolutely nothing for in return. Now he presents an apology, still thinking the project made sense. No… well, we now find out that we have numerous funds collecting millions over the years to pay for mistakes. Notice your electric bills lately?

Who was he listening to?

I support John Murphy in this election. John came to live in Painesville for three reasons, breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Why would I support John over Paul: John would have read the AMP contract and within a few weeks, he would have realized through common sense this was a bad deal for Painesville. John will know what he is voting on and not listen to the people Paul tends to listen to.

The big difference between Paul and John? If John would have voted for something that cost the taxpayers of Painesville more than $2,000,000 I believe he would admit his mistake, apologize and not seek re-election, probably even resign for being incompetent. Paul must have one set of kahunnas to ask people to re-elect him.

Seriously, Paul's accomplishments are few, putting all the dirt behind the Celery House that it looks like a moonscape. Is he collecting royalties on a gas well located near his property line? Whose idea was it to sell that park? Paul should have done the honorable thing and resigned his position along with anyone else still left on council who voted for that AMP-OHIO AMPSC Plant. expensive mistake. Only in Painesville could a candidate be reelected with his record while no one questions his campaign for a third term. This really is Apathyville.

At least let us all admit if Paul is re-elected, it will not be because of the accomplishments he has had in the last two terms. Maybe in Painesville all you really need are the right amount of signs.

What a bunch of bull, Term, you have no ideal if John would have thought the Amp deal was no good, they had a lot of people in a lot of citys thinking it was a good deal at the time.

No Bull, I believe I was the only private citizen who asked the city manager if I could review the contract. She gave me permission to view it at city hall with an employee present. Less then a half hour into reading parts of this contract I was shaking my head and thinking OMG!
Anyone who had taken as little time as I did would have come to the same conclusion. This deal gives all the cost and risk to cities like Painesville.
No one would enter a contract like this for their own money.
Why didn't they atleast take the time and check what others were telling them?
I believe anyone still on council that would tell you they read the contract would then have to admit to being a fool.
John would have read the contract, along with some now presently on council would have to, instead of following blindly the Queen & King!
Again Paul Hach should have already turned in his resignation and I can't believe others haven't asked for it. Must be the signs?

John murphy has been involved in a lot of contracts, and he expressed his dissatification at council meetings, prior to council voting for it.the 50 year contract was his first RED FLAG, and the TAKE-OR-PAY contract was the final straw. common sense was not used here!!!!.

Paul may not be perfect like you are but he is so much better than John Murphy that there should be no question as to who to vote for. We need to keep people on council that have a positive approach to issues, not with an automatic no. Murphy's approach to everything is negative and that is not what is needed.

Does this mean that you will not endorse Arlene Becks when she runs for Council-at-Large in 2013 since she voted for the AMP-OHIO deal too? That may be news to her since she has spent so much time supporting Mr Murphy.

To 2:15...If we continue to elect people with Hach's 'vision' then Painesville residents better have a bigger bankroll...we'll need it.

2:15: And, what? Hach's automatic yes to whatever nincompoop idea that McMahon and Hada come up with is the alternative? Please. Murphy will not be an automatic "no." I've turned to him for problems I have in the city because my own councilperson is useless, and he is very methodical when he approaches an issue. Looks carefully at all the facts, and looks until he makes sure he HAS all the facts. I also remember him standing up in council meetings more than once and warning city council about the AMP deal. Hach just voted "yes" - his usual. Keeping Hach would be foolish. He should have been recalled long ago.

I have to ask - Why has John Murphy lost repeatedly when running for Council? Isn't this his 3rd try? Maybe people should be considering that....

Paul has said time after time that he is a businessman.Businessmen did come to city council and warned everyone what they were getting into with AMP-OHIO,not just John Murphy. But this was what Rita wanted. Now Paul will pay for another rita and joe fubar. Nice guys do not equal good councilmen! When are you guys going to get this. Its not a personality contest, its about turning this town around, this guy has not done anything in 8years to warrant another term.

Andy likes Arlene.. He would support her just like Murphy will. She will be a shoe in.. Unless she runs for the County Com.

4:37 After much thought I could never support anyone who ever voted for AMPGS on the final vote. So Ms. Becks would have to look elsewhere for support. Along with the other four.
Sorry voting has consequences. I can't hold Becks to a lower standard then Hada and Hach.
Who both if they had any honor would have already resigned. Then again this is Painesville. What's 2 million among friends?

For once, a statement that make sense and makes a valid point. Vote against someones voting record or platform, not just for where a sign is or to what party someone belongs. If it is a nonpartisan race, what difference does it make what party someone belongs to. So did you have to think for a long time wether to vote for Arlene because she is a Democrat or vote against because of AMP?

Vote for a Democrat or against losing 2 million dollars. Should not have take much thought in my opinion.

Arlene for County Commissioner? Give me a break. She couldn't fill out her petitions correctly. Now she wants to be in charge of county finances? Another council person using Painesville as a stepping stone? I believe she would be lucky to get 20% of the vote against an opponent, Republican or Democrat. Where is she going to raise the money for a county race? Term???

To yuck? Please add a name to your comment I don't understand your comment. You think I would put up that comment without verification?

3:50 Will you hold Paul to the same standards as I hold Arlene? Or do you have a way to weasel out of your comment?

Term, this is "yuck." Nothing needed verifying on that comment. It was a personal opinion of my experience with her and certainly nothing that people don't already know about how she behaved in office, how she treated people, how she asked questions during council meetings just to get on TV and look important and act like she knew what she was talking about, but yet never did. Again, there was nothing to be verified. I think you are saying one thing (you don't support Arlene) while doing something else. It was a negative comment about Arlene Becks as it has to do with her time on council. That's it, and yuck sums it up. Also, I know she wanted to be Council President. Is that during the time she voted yes on the AMP coal plant to go along with Hada, etc.? I wouldn't vote for her to walk my dog, and I doubt anyone else would, either. She was a horrible councilperson, and that little bit of power went right to her head. So much for her character.

I don't see this race having anything to do with Republicans or Democrats. The division for me rests in whether they are FOR McMahon/Hada, etc. and their policies (losing millions repeatedly, hiding millions repeatedly, for example) or AGAINST them. The only way to start turning this city around is to get rid of McMahon and all the people that have supported/will support her.

Anyone can go back and look at the old city council tapes and watch Arlene in action. Useless.

Yuck, You toned it down. Thank-you.
You can have that opinion but you were a little to personal.

5:27 pm... stop it!!!!!.. she supports Murphy.. I will not stand for you bashing her... Arlene would vote for Murphy... that's all I need.. she is the voice of THEY PEOPLE!!!.... period.....

This is what could be called reverse support? Don't like Arlene so support Hach?
7:27 want to clear up the mystery?

Next will be hearing of support for a candidate from the KKK or Al Qaida? K Jenkins draw support from the Mayor of Leon, Mexico?
Some of you are off the hook.

At October 25, 2011 at 7:46 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I said you gave a valid reason for not supporting someone. But, you said that after much thought, you decided not to support Arlene. I just questioned why it took "much thought". You are so against the AMP deal (I agree by the way) that I simply wanted to know if a vote on an issue or being a Democrat is more important since you have supported her in the past. Are you more committed to a party or a stand on an issue. I believe it to be a valid question.

Where in that post did it say how I voted. Are not our problems more important than political party. We're not voting for the most popular student in high school any more.

7:27 is funny. Must be Arlene herself. I'm glad Becks supports Murphy. So do I. But, come on -- she's the voice of the people?!!! Yep, you're funny 7:27...oh, I mean...Arlene. Let's just be glad she's not running this year, and move on.

Just who is "THEY PEOPLE!!!"?

All the people in Painesville or just a certain few?

Is that true? Does Katie really have support from the Mayor of Leon? That should totally open people's eyes. Vote NO for Katie. Thanks for letting us know, TERM. I will spread the word.

To 6:24 - I assume "hiding millions" refers to the electric dept carryover funds which are always in the budget report? Hardly hidden. If the water or road departments had the same carry-overs, they would be able to do more repairs now, right? Oh - but they would be accused of "hiding money" too. Sounds like "damned if you do, damned if you don't".

7:46 After much thought? So you don't want me to consider everything? I had to make sure she even voted Yes on the final vote. I stand by my comment. I even gave much thought to my reason to support Murphy over Hach.
So you can justify voting for someone who's vote cost you money? Sounds High School to me.
8:34 Go ahead and spread it. Sounds like the people you would communicate with would believe it and not understand sarcasm? Maybe now I don't understand your sarcasm?
4:20 6:24 could have used a better phrase then "hiding millions" But the question still remains how did the city aquire those millions?
How many millions should they have in reserve? Is the running of electricity out to the JEDD in the best interest of the residents of Painesville? How long do you estimate before you see return on your investment. Woulda, Coulda,Shoulda? Yes if you believe that the 2.7 million could, would or should come out of one of those funds then I guess I could understand someone voting yes on AMPGS? Heck it's not my money!

Thanks a lot Angelo - now everyone is going to think I have connections with the immigrant smuggling cartel in Mexico.

No, it's not true. I have no connections or endorsements from ANYONE from Leon, Mexico. I believe that Angelo was sarcastically responding with information recently published in a Plain Dealer article, which cited that the majority of our Hispanic residents came from Leon, Mexico? While everyone seems to "think" I support illegal immigrants, I can go on record in saying that no - I do not. I support nothing that is or could be construed as illegal.

Term you don't understand what a nice person is? It's one that blows 2.7 million dollars on a bad deal and then explains to take it out of a SLUSH fund to pay for it.
Or a nice person is one who asks for your vote to represent you on council and in less then two years wants to vamoose to greater pastures.
Thats what nice means here is Painesville. Don't you get it yet?
