"THE PLEASURE PRINCIPLE" janet jackson

Some people have questioned why I don't believe Ms. Martin is the right person to head Harvey High School. I believe she is an accomplished educator with all the proper credentials and Harvey as everyone seems to agree is not the average high school.
What am I looking for maybe a little less friend and a lot more authoritarian. I cannot reincarnate a Jack Britt or even if I could would he be deemed
'good enough" by some in the community?
That brings me to this guy.

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers and against our country.

First this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or European, or if your ancestors arrived on the Mayflower or on slave ships. The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity--your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is American.

This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans. If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial or religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will end all ethnicity, race and non-American nationality-based celebrations. They undermine the motto of America, one of its three central values--e pluribus Unum, "from many, one." And this school will be guided by America's values. This includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students.
society divided by political correctness.

I am uninterested in whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united American citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. It is an indispensable reason this country of immigrants has always come to be one country. And if you leave this school without excellent English language skills, I would be remiss in my duty to ensure that you will be prepared to successfully compete in the American job market. We will learn other languages here-- it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English--but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not your school.

Because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor, everything in this school will reflect learning's elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly.
Therefore, there will be a formal dress code at this school.

No obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school's property-- whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you can't speak without using the f-word, you can't speak. By obscene language I mean words banned by the Federal Communications Commission, plus epithets such as "N#*&@R" even when used by a one black student to address another black, or "b%$#*h" even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time you leave school, you will be among the few your age to instinctively distinguish between the elevated and the degraded, the holy and the obscene.

We will end all self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem will be attained in only one way--the way people attained it until decided otherwise a generation ago-- by earning it. One immediate consequence is that there will be one valedictorian, not eight.

Dennis Prager

Tell me what YOU think.

I think he would do wonders at our school. How can we hire him. I for one am tired of these kids and parents screaming "You have no right to do that, say that or impose that". Sorry yes the school does and it is the parent that needs to get over it and allow the school to do what it needs to do -EDUCATE. Go to the school and parents dropping/picking up their kids. Note those going in/out the bus only entrance, say something to them and you'll get a dirty look or even an FOff. This is a big part of these kids problems-poor parenting.
As for you MS.Martin-Taylor comment, she puts on a very good show.

Rest his soul.....Jack Britt would not have had a clue. We live in a much different era with many different challenges than back them.

The problem at HHS is Hanlon and Dillard....I've got the solution to the start of resolving our issues....get rid of those two underachievers, they have had their opportunity. Let's not make the mistake of getting them out and adding Grippi....that's one step forward two steps back.

Finally, a proposal worth reading.

Just so you all know Dennis Prager is not a Principal at any school he gave this speech at a convention in Colorado. I believe he is a radio personality in L.A.
Would make a great Principal.

Dennis Prager talks for a living. That is all he does. Talking about a problem is easy. Doing something about a problem, is what counts. You know the saying, "Those who can, do those who can't, teach." Prayer just talks and talks!

Yeah, talk is cheap, but around here failure seems to be very expensive.

You know what, 2:40? That's the way it used to be in the not too distant past. Good schools giving good educations to students who knew they had to quit making excuses and learn. Now we have decades of failing schools with people making big salaries to perpetuate failing schools and to make excuses for failing students who aren't doing what they should be doing either. Give me a break. You are making more excuses for something that should be done well already. Nobody used to baby us when we were in school, and they weren't making all kinds of excuses for having garbage schools allowing garbage to come out. Now we have charter schools because the public schools are failing. What in the world does it take? How stupid are we? There are some good schools who have it all together. How hard could it be for all these educated people to follow their lead and get our public schools - ALL of them - up to excellence. And that means with no excuses for minorities or anyone else to come out with less than perfect educations - in spite of themselves. Once the schools get ahold of these kids, they need to have superb educating centers that turn out well-educated people, in spite of whatever excuses the minorities (or the whites) want to make for not achieving. Screw the parents who are making excuses - get ahold of the kids, change their environment in school, do it right and they will learn and thrive. Have a good alternative place for the kids who will not or cannot comply so they are not left uneducated - in spite of themselves - and just do it. I mean, how hard could it be. Apparantly the charter schools are doing it. And everyone needs to quit being so politically correct and we need to fight back against the constant screams of racism by the minorities that allows them to continue to underachieve. The courts need to get a grip, too, and quit letting nonsense win out. I don't know where the brains are there, either. I mean, really - decades of failing schools - really, how stupid are we? If the people in charge cannot get the schools and the students under control, then get out. Quit making excuses. Quit letting the kids make excuses. Quit letting the parents make excuses.

Great essay. The school administrations as well as the boards don't want to make their main funders upset. Parents are being coddled to insure the bucks keep coming in.
Myself I'm tired of all the excuses.

7:31...So we live in a different time with different challenges...well, so has every other generation that has preceded us. So we have better technology, healthier children, more information readily available, better facilities and better-educated teachers. Where is the challenge? We live in politically and economically uncertain times... and so did the kids that survived the depression and WWII, the civil and social unrest of the sixties, the serious recessions in the late 70s and 80s, throw in a couple more wars and terrorism dating back to WWI and earlier...so where is the challenge today that we can't seem to overcome or find a solution to? Please do not blame the media because jazz, the blues, and (god forbid) rock-n-roll were all huge influences at one time. We have a generation of kids that feel entitled and many parents that either feel guilty and give them everything (except the parenting they need) or parents that just do not care. We have politically correct bean-counters running schools with unproven theories that go in and out of fashion every 15 years or so. The children I am responsible for use their manners, have consequences, accept responsibility, go to school properly attired and on time, and understand the concept of delayed gratification. I am not the most fun person to be around (they'll be the first to tell you that) but I can take them anywhere and they know how to behave and what is expected of them. It is a full-time job but one I willingly do because someone took the time to do it for me. The so-called old-fashioned values I live by will stand these children in good stead now and down the road. I also communicate regularly with all the adults they deal with, teachers, counselors, doctors, other adult family members etc. so that we are all on the same page. I too, am tired of the excuses offered underachievers. Self-esteem is not a gift; it must be earned in order to be effective. We are doing a great disservice to a whole generation.

It's simple 5:23 PM, If a student want to learn he/she will learn. If a parent wants their child to succeed, they will most likely succeed. It's time we stop blaming teachers for lazy students and stupid parents. Also, your starry eye of what used to be, really wasn't. I go back a long time and I remember, we had good students and we had bad students, just like today. The teachers then, as they do today, give the students the curriculum to learn. What they learn is up to them. You also say, we have decades of failing schools. Look around, we are having decades of almost everything falling, in our country, today!

Sorry but I do not agree with anonymous 11:24. Yes over the years there were bad students but during my days (grade 1 in 1962)in school they were few and far between. Reason? the real board of education - a paddle. I'm on the fence about the paddle now but back in the day you though twice before you got "swats" from the princpal. Then if you got it at school you sure as heck got it again. Same for a pregnant teen. They were sheltered then whisked away to have a baby and not heard from again. Now it is like a trophy. Everyone is doing it, dropping out and living on the dole.

Exactly! I was in the P'ville schools during the 60's/and a couple of years into the 70's (at Harvey during the Britt years) and they never had that great of a reputation overall. The surrounding school districts were always considered academically superior, which is NOT to say you couldn't get a good education in Painesville. There were always high-level courses available for those who qualified (heck, they even let me take a couple of them! LOL). I hope for the sake of the academically gifted they're still there. Although admittedly the dropout and disciplinary rates are certainly not what they are now. I hope this can be turned around, maybe even making Harvey, etc., a model for other troubled schools to follow. Now that would be a great story!

You are all correct. However, what is the answer? Hold parents accountable, hold students responsible, suspend students, make them do there homework, it starts at home, stop have chilren so young, stop having so many children, illegal immigration is killing us, rap music, rock and roll, drugs, alchol....I could go on and on. Again, what is the answer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In defense of 5:12: Part of our discussion here is the illegals and how we are educating their children. So here is a Mexican woman here illegally for 16 years with four kids. I get the connection. The whole thing is sickening. These people have to go. How stupid can we continue to be.

1:48: I think everyone can relate to your post, and I sure as heck do not know what to do with parents who will not parent their children properly and/or back up the school when the school has to. Or the out-of-wedlock births. Talk about a scary situation for American, let alone the children being born this way. We used to know that you needed a marriage, stability, a proper job, etc., etc., etc. Now it's nothing for people to create children with none of those things in place. The whole state of affairs is frightening and overwhelming. I have no idea about the whole picture, but it brings me back to the illegals and the children of the illegals. We here in America have enough problems with our own. Let's get out the illegals and their children and start there. For the rest of it, it makes me tired and scared to even think what is happening with America. So many young people not taking responsibility for their own actions and lives.

TERM, THIS IS THE LADY I WAS TALKING ABOUT, PLEASE PUT THIS ON A POST, THIS CRAP HAS TO STOP

Fox 8 News Reporter

6:40 p.m. EDT, September 20, 2011
PAINESVILLE, Ohio— A Painesville woman has won a victory in her battle with the federal government to stay in the country.

Cleveland immigration attorney David Leopold told Fox 8 News that immigration officials have granted 39-year-old Esperanza Pacheco a one-year stay on a federal deportation order.

After 16-years in the U.S., the native of Mexico had been notified by agents in the Cleveland office of Immigration and Customs Enforcement that they intended to remove her because she is an illegal alien.

Pacheco has four daughters ranging in age from 7 to 13-years-old, who were born in the U.S. and are citizens.

She came to the attention of immigration officials in 2002, when she was arrested for child endangering, after leaving her daughters at home while she was applying for a job.

Before meeting with immigration agents Tuesday, she told Fox 8 through an interpreter, "I'm not a bad mother, please give me an opportunity. If I had that incident 10-years ago, that will not do that again."

Pacheco's attorney said it appears ICE agents have been ignoring ignoring directives from federal immigration authorities, that they place a high priority on removing illegal aliens who pose a threat.

"They ought to be going after dangerous people, they ought to be going after drug dealers and terrorists", said Leopold. "They ought not to be taking a mother of four away from her kids."

After receiving news about the reprieve, Pacheco and her daughters wept and hugged each other.

Leopold said the case illustrates the need for change.

"The reality is that until there's immigration reform, until Congress carves out a pathway so that Esperanza and others like her can comply with the law", he said. "She'll be in peril."

Attorney's like Leopold make a living off of people like this. I don't understand what a one-year stay does for her and her family.
Reprive? I don't think that's the right word.
She's in peril how about the people here that are supporting ruling such as these. Call the Governor! Second thought that would be a waste of time.

Notice how Lepold says "they ought not to be taking a mother of four away from her kids."

So not only is this woman here illegally, but if she gets deported for breaking our laws, she will leave her children here for us to finish paying for and educating them and all the while blame US for breaking up her family. I mean, when is enough enough? I still say we go after Kucinich for standing with the illegals and make an example out of him. This stuff is just sickening. If you are wondering why you don't have enough money, here is the biggest reason.

Shold be checking ALL the Pachecos and Moctezumas in Painesville and the township. It looks like they are living in one of the trailer parks in PV TWP. OMG it's not just in the city anymore is it?
How long has she been here and not a word of English, not even the word content. Needs a translator. Too bad they decided to let her stay. If she's concerned for the children take them too. And where is the father? How many different last names?

how are the kids going to City schools if she lives in the Township? I'm sure she's not paying the open enrollment for her kids.

I believe the Riverside Schools tells Hispanic parents that the city schools are better suited for their child's education? There is no cost to the parent's for open enrollment. It all has to do with the state funding. Kasish are you listening?

And we are supporting millions and millions and millions of women like this and their children. We let them come like thieves in the night, set up housekeeping, and start having legal babies. We're losing our country to them, yet we just sit here and let it happen. Our government is cutting costs everywhere, and still nobody mentions the 40 million or so illegals and their -- what -- how many legal children have these people had in the last 20 years in our country. We have the right to know since we are supporting them all. You think this woman is supporting herself and her four children, or are we? It's some great free ride we give away here in America to all the illegals and their children.

Back when the Rally Team was having their first rallies here in Painesville, I was talking to one woman and asking her to join us. She said that no, she wasn't the kind to participate in rallies. She just moved from Painesville to get away from the illegals, and that was her solution to the problem. I asked her if she thought that as they were growing by millions a year, that they were going to stay confined to Painesville, and not infiltrate her new town and what about the whole country. Well, she was busy and, again, not the kind to participate in rallies. I told her that it would all be coming to her neighborhood soon enough. Maybe she could move to Mexico then, since they will all be here and they already have the ghost towns to prove it. Oh, I forgot, nobody can live illegally in Mexico -- they won't have us.

And this is the kind of garbage that Kucinich was protecting as he stood with Dahlberg and her illegals who were demanding rights in the U.S. -- her right to come here illegally, stay here illegally, have a bunch of children that she cannot support and steal our money and our country. Right on, Kucinich, you traitor. If you want to give them stuff for free, including our country, then why don't you start with YOUR stuff. You could give them your home and any properties you own, for example, and why not empty YOUR bank accounts for them? Really, I'm waiting. And how many relatives will each of these people bring here if they are legalized? Ten each? Twenty? And how many children will THEY have?

At September 22, 2011 at 1:00 PM , Anonymous Just Leave Now said...

I saw the news clips yet I don't remember her saying her kids attended Painesville schools.
Also for 4:03 AM: On 9-18-2011 the News Herald had an article about open enrollment. Riverside DOES NOT have that policy. So if these people do for a fact live in the township, did they break the law by using a different address? No matter, some bleeding heart liberal will come to your rescue again and all will be right. Then, someday your 4 daughters will be having children of their own.
Yet everyone wonders what's wrong with this country.
