'SUICIDE SONG" lee evans

After attending Monday night's council meeting, I have to wonder if Councilman Werner intends to commit political suicide. As a member of council and being a person that should know better than most just how stretched our safety forces are, he calls the police over a neighbor’s cat.
Now if Mr. Werner has any hopes of being re-elected, this feud with his neighbors (including Jackie's Place) and the residents behind the establishment should end now.
I believe Hal has always wanted to serve as a good council member, sometimes he just goes off the reservation.
At Monday night's meeting, Ms. McMahon mentioned that liquor licenses were being reviewed by the State in September, and if any resident should want to file a complaint on an establishment, contact the city. To be honest, I thought Hal's eyes glassed over. Here was his chance to rid himself of his nemesis. My thanks to the city manager for waving the red flag in front of him.
I do not believe Hal will listen to me, but he might listen to someone else out there.
Hal, you have spent too much time and money to get on council to become this petty. Do you have some neighborhood problems that you think need addressed? Yes, you might, but your present tactics really should stop.
Discussing this with someone I trust, the comment was made "wasn't there a bar there when he bought the houses?" If they were and it was, now is not the time to raise a fuss.
Your position on council is not to be self-serving, we have had enough of that, please get off your high horse and do what you were elected to do.
End this juvenile feud now!
Hal, your opponent is having a fund-raiser at Jackie's....does that tell you anything?

I wish Hal would do something with the illegal party center at the corner of Peal St and Liberty St. the building is owned by Mike Bertone the owner of Bertones Gas Station.

I believe the only reason that Hal wanted to be in office was to self-serve, and he told people whatever he thought they wanted to hear to get them to help him get the job, and he made whatever promises he needed to, none of which he has lived up to, nor do I think he ever had any intentions of doing so.

Let's let the new kid on the block have a chance at his seat. He's got to go in my opinion.

I wonder what is going to happen with the liquor license at Jalapeno Loco. They still don't have one. Still using the previous owner's. This just doesn't seem right. They were turned down for a reason and Painesville City finds a way to circumvent that.

Hal was never elected by the majority of Ward II voters. He squeaked in with 39% of the votes [60% voted against Hal]. Term calls Hal's behavior petty, well that putting it mildly. I've got a much stronger view, but we've been asked to say only positive things about the candidates. So I will "positively" be at Mrs. Jenkins fundraiser, might even bring my cat!

Katie Jenkins - Positively Painesville

We do need a change in Ward 2 and Mrs. Jenkins will definitely give Hal a run for his money. She's well-educated, highly intelligent, and a will make decisions based on what is good for Painesville, not for herself. She will be an asset to Council.

At July 25, 2011 at 3:23 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I will be interested to see whether she can assure me that she can also decide issues for herself (because she took the time to read the packet and get educated) rather than what's good for a simple majority of council. So far so good...but you'll all pardon me that I may still be a little skeptical because that's pretty much the platform Hal ran under last time. Once bitten... twice shy.

To 3:17: Who will show up at Katie's fundraiser? What does she think of our sanctuary city? This is an important election, and that is an important topic - our whole town, not to mention our country is at stake. If she is "for" the illegals, then let's find that out right now.

"she" does have a mind of her own. And "she" is not for illegals but at the same time recognizes that not all Hispanics are illegals. Immigration is a federal issue, and we can only do so much from a local perspective. Keep this in mind when you're fishing for me to commit to a policy I would have very little control over in a city council seat. How much did my incumbent do when that was a primary platform in his campaign?

I'm curious though - where is this policy or ordinance that states we choose to be a "sanctuary city"?

And the name is Katie Howlett Jenkins. Anyone is welcome to contact me if they'd like to know what my beliefs and views are. KJenkinsforCouncil@gmail.com

Gee, duh, thanks Katie for telling me that not all Hispanics are illegal.I didn't know. Have you ever heard of Secure Communities? Does our city have that? That is most certainly a local thing that could help our current situation with our city being overrun by illegals.

city council needs 4 votes to achieve anything. council president HADA,HACH,FOUNTAIN,DELAMOTTE NEVER WANTED TO DISSCUSS THE ILLEGALS. Delamotte left at the end of her term in 2009. the subject has not been disscussed since 2009. WERNER or any one else in ward 2 can,t do anything alone, without 3 more votes. HOWEVER city council could enforce the city laws and choose only certain ones. "This has to change".

You know what? I've been one of Hal Werner's biggest detractors, but I do not like the answers/comments from KJenkins 6:16 one little bit - and on so many different levels. She will not get my vote. Think we're safer with Hal.

I was sincere in my request - is there anything that actually shows a ordinance or policy declaring us a sanctuary city? The only thing I've been able to find has been that the topic needed to be discussed - no legislation, no follow up. I don't think it's a matter of changing policy as much as outs making one, and being accountable for it.

As I stated before, I welcome all discussion - whether you think you agree with my views or not. Please contact me kjenkinsforcouncil@gmail.com

K Jenkins tread very carefully. If you have read the blog. you know your walking on quicksand. In this city as well as your ward this is a very sticky subject.
I hope you have a policy to make.
Presently the city seems to ignore the subject.
They talk about diversity all the time but where is it practiced at city hall,Directors, department heads?
The truth is most residents believe the majority of Hispanic's over 30 are illegal's.
I don't know what the figure is and either does anyone else. If someone mentions there are 3,000 illegals in Painesville no one can prove or disprove that number.

At August 2, 2011 at 10:11 AM , Anonymous KJenkins said...

I agree. And that data isn't gathered by the census? So how do we address it? I'm asking for citizen feedback. The first step as a city is to actually state what our stance is. As of now the only "statement" I've found was by a police chief in 2007. Has there been anything more formal or was this all it took to brand us a sanctuary? It's a very hot topic but I haven't found anything conclusive from the City's officials. But once we've defined a policy - then what? I know there's a lot of what should be dones....but what can be done? And I ask because I don't know these answers. Does anyone?

KJenkins, Go to the August 2008 comments.... Its on the right side of the blog. right around August25the the post was "You Asked". Watch it. Then also consider the letter Council-President William Horvath sent then Senator DeWine I will try to get you a copy. This was written on city stationary and mentioned how Painesville welcomed its legal and illegal Hispanic population.
No formal resolutions were ever voted but it was made clear to illegals they were welcome. As our city leaders stood by and watched.
People coming from Leon, Mexico will tell others how no one bothered them.
Many Painesville residents believe everyone from the police to the courts to the city administration look the other way all to often.

Katie, here are another couple of things to think about. The city needs to enforce occupancy ordinances, and ordinances against parking cars on front lawns - I don't understand why the Mexicans get away with cramming so many people into the houses they occupy, or why they can park 6 cars on their front lawn when their driveways fill up. Seems like the city turns a blind eye to this stuff and I don't understand why.

There was even, and I'm sure therefore still is, a song about come to Painesville, Ohio, where illegals can live in peace. Was circulating all through California, so probably all the other states, too, as well as Mexico and other countries, no doubt.

Yes, Veronica Dahlberg wrote the letter. Horvath said he did. He lied and lied and lied about it until Dahlberg stood up at a council meeting and admitted she did and blew his cover. The citizens had been fighting the illegals, and that was the city's response. They even had a council meeting where all the illegals came and spoke and said how much they loved it here, how welcome they felt, how now they have children who are citizens, etc., etc., etc.

It will only continue to get worse here in our city, and in our country, if we all don't stand up and demand that our government take our country back. No other country lets this happen. We could not go to Mexico and get away with it, for example. As soon as they step on our soil, if they do not have our permission, or as soon as they overstay their VISA, they are criminals and it is all down hill from there. But we even reward them by making their children legal citizens. We're losing our country rapidly.

And what is really insane, is the government keeps talking about the lack of jobs, when we have many, many, many millions of illegals working the jobs that Americans should have, and you never hear that even mentioned. It's my estimate that we probably have at least 30 million illegals here, and they are all having babies just as fast as they can.

Anyone wants to know where their paycheck/money is going? To the illegals and their children in 1001 different ways.

And, yes, it is my opinion that our city leaders told our police, etc., hands off the illegals. We may not be an officially declaired Sanctuary City, but we are to the illegals, and that's all that matters to lose a city, a state and then the country.

At August 2, 2011 at 3:02 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Didn't Judge Cicconetti (spelling?) even say in the newspaper that he felt sorry for the illegals caught driving without a license, and just gave them slaps on the wrist? I believe I am remembering that correctly. So that means that they are just driving around without licenses and I am guessing insurance (!), and putting us all in danger. If you watch, a lot of them don't even really know how to drive. Most can't read English, meaning they can't read our road signs. Yet, when a crime was almost committed against HIS family, the judge was all up in arms. Very indignant. What would happen to you or I if we were caught doing the same? And what if you ran the stop sign at the end of your street and a policeman saw you? You would be quickly ticketed. Yet you can be in our country illegally, with all the multitude of crimes that continually entails, and nobody touches you. Go figure. I think it is a lawmaker in Alabama who just said their new anti-illegals bill should be called a jobs-creating bill. Our ship is sinking and going down because it is overloaded with illegals, as is our city, but we continue to welcome them with open arms. Yes, please come take our money and our jobs and wreck our city - glad to have you. And make sure you invite 50 of your relatives to come join you.

Didn't the Rally Team work to get this city declared NOT a Sanctuary City in response to Horvath's letter, etc.? I'm pretty sure they attended council meetings and spearheaded something. Even if they did, the city had already welcomed all the illegals with open arms - said come here, we want you - so it would have been too late. Horvath was working with the illegals and with Dahlberg to write the letter, etc., so the word was and is out everywhere for them to come here. The whole country is going down with us as we speak.

At August 2, 2011 at 6:22 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Katie, there are two types of sanctuary cities. One is where they actually declare themselves a sanctuary city and pass an ordinance stating so. This is what Oberlin did. The other type is a sanctuary city by their actions. This is what Painesville is. City Manager may say we are not a sanctuary city, but their actions are 100% sanctuary city. The overlooking of the overcrowding housing situation, when stopped for a minor traffic violation they are patted on the back and told not to do it again (you and I would get a ticket), etc. I could go on and on. Loud music and cars all over the yard being overlooked. So, Katie, yes, Painesville is a sanctuary city. Here is a link to a website that lists us as such. The illegals all know we are. http://www.ojjpac.org/sanctuary.asp

The rally team was nowhere to be found when Horvaths letter was made public. That leave's only Term that kept asking at council meeting about the letter to the point where Wild Bill almost went over the ledge. It was him who made it come out that HOLA wrote the letter and he finally admitted it.
It was Term that stood up a a council meeting after Veronica Dahlberg complained about the ICE raids in the city. Only Term stood up and said that someone finally did something right about the illegals here. Where was the rally group? AWOL. That's why they hate Term he stole their thunder. IN PUBLIC!

3:30pm, that's so funny. The Rally Team wasn't even in existence at that time. They only organized after that. So there! No thunder stolen. We support anyone who can do anything to fight the illegals.

3:40: The Rally Team did not even exist when that letter was going on. I alone was writing Letters from the Readers in The News-Herald back then, trying to wake people up. I had written a letter to be read aloud in the council meeting, but they edited the letter down to three lines. And yes, Term was out there fighting at the council meetings. Nobody said he was not. The Rally Team was started later in response to all of this and also because the government was trying to legalize all the illegals. So calm down, get your facts straight and knock off the stupid Rally Team vs. Term crap. He stopped, so I stopped, now you stop. You don't even know what you are talking about.

At August 3, 2011 at 4:05 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I want to add to my last post. I answered 3:40's post. The Rally Team's move (and I'm pretty sure there was one) came a while past the whole Horvath letter thing. I believe it was after Werner was in office, and it was because it was becoming more and more evident that Painesville was now a sanctuary city. Someone else from the Rally Team can correct me if my facts are wrong, but that is the way I remember it. I don't remember what exactly it was or if it was accomplished. I think, as I said earlier, it was some sort of declaration or something that said we were NOT a sanctuary city, and I think it was passed. I don't exactly remember. But listen, 3:40, you'd better stop the "HAH" and pick up your own banner. Make no mistake about it, we are losing America, and the time for posts like yours needs to be over.

Yes 4:08, you are right, and I am with you. By now I have a pretty good idea who 5:00, etc. is. (emails, anyone?)

I want to add one thing to my comments on when and why the Rally Team was started. I believe it was mostly in response to the illegals, led by Veronica Dahlberg, having rallies in our town, as was going on all across America, to demand rights and citizenship from the country they had no right to even be in. I believe the founder thought that that was enough of that, and that if we didn't want to lose our country, then Americans better get off their behinds and fight and try to take back our country from them. I believe it was at the same time that the government was trying to legalize them. When I heard there was someone who was starting a group, I quickly found out who it was and offered my assistance. I was able to help the founder start and organize the group and the first two rallies. I regretably knew I would not be able to be a continually active member due to health issues, but I was able to hang in there long enough until there were other people who stepped forward. I still consider myself a member, and attend functions whenever I can. I also continue to fight on my own. Our country was in a desperate situation then, as it still is today. I would just keep urging anyone who has a problem with that, to find a way to fight on your own, or start your own group.
