GREEN ONIONS" booker t

Is Painesville like an onion? Why do I ask that? Well, recently the city manager proposed zoning changes in the Chestnut-Cedarbrook area. The city manager said the reasoning behind these zoning changes was to make the area conform to the surrounding properties. If you live in Painesville long enough, you should understand that the city manager does nothing without an ulterior motive. All sounds well and good, but please explain why people representing a developer have been attempting to buy property from a resident for an access road parallel to Cedarbrook to connect with Hickory Dr. and Chestnut St.? I guess it's not so much that someone wants to build a development, its just the shady way it's done. And lets not forget that before one roof is constructed in that area another large interceptor sewer pipe needs to be installed.... not just connected to the pipe that presently runs down Chestnut St. Maybe residents in that area should band together and tell the city to leave the zoning alone. Peeling the skin off an onion is the only way to find the truth in Painesville.

Now, just a thought: if Painesville was the winning bidder for the Millstone property, they had to put 10% down in cash with the rest payable in 30 days. So if the rumbling I hear is true that FEMA still has the grant money would Painesville forfeit $230,000.00 if they don't finalize the Sheriff sale on time? Lets hope not uh?

Windmill Estates and the rest of the Cobblestone project rest on a bridge being built over the CSX tracks west of new RT.44 The city manager is looking for $3,500,000.00 to build this bridge. As late as May of 2010 she estimated the cost at $5,900,000.00.... how did it get cheaper? Recently Geneva built an overpass over the same railroad tracks. The final cost of that project was $8,900,000.00. Could we have some factual numbers before we move ahead with this bridge?

My favorite, Washington Cemetery. Nothing can happen until we can prove no bodies are still buried there. The only way to know for sure would be to dig a section up, right?

Well, I think one thing that needs done instead of bridge to nowhere is a pedestrian bridge across Richmond St. for the jaywalkers from Active Plumbing to Chinese restaurant. On a recent drive south through this area I counted 18 people crossing, stopping for cars at least once before they could finish crossing street. 18 people including kids in the middle of a busy street. Accident waiting to happen.

What if residents affected all told council leave the zoning as it presently is?

Then they would be dreaming....do you really think Ms Rita would pass up a bunch of new homes/taxpayers (and she wouldn't even have to annex anything!) This would be their golden opportunity to push for getting the sewer problems fixed properly and maybe enough support for the fire station that needs to be located south of the railroad tracks. And what about a real fence to divide the developed property from existing homeowners? Those homes on Cedarbrrok and Chestnut have been there housing taxpaying residents for a long time...they deserve to be disrupted as little as possible.

Chestnut is already pretty congested several times a day (rush hour/school arrival and dismissal)...throw a train into the mix and it gets ugly really quickly. We've already got strained services...how are they planning to incorporate a bunch of new homes into an area that floods regularly since the new schools were built?
And just some food for thought: Rita...why weren't you open about why you wanted to change the zoning? There's a lot of other zoning inconsistancies in town (remember Condon Court?) that would have made more sense for the reason offered.

6:56 Key words. "If it was done right." Walk that area ,large ponds and muddy swamps.
The residents will notput up with anmymore false promises or half truths.
Mr. Goldberg has the right to develop his land and the residents have a right that it will not make their situation worse. Why can't they just tell the truth for the rezoning?

Term, Has Gurley said anymore about the recall procedure? Will this be addressed, at the next council meeting?

No he hasn't, but I will have a new post about this next week. The state attorney general office has been contacted and presently that's all I will say about this matter.

WE DO NOT NEED A recall

Let's ask that state attorney general's office to check out what in the heck has been going on here in the last 20 years or so while they are at it.

Actually, the zoning change request could be exactly what she says it is since they have been also been working on it in other sections of the city.

You may not have readers in the other sections of the city, but they did try it in our neighborhood and we all got together and gave them some reasonable thoughts why we wanted it left alone right now and it never even made it to the zoning board.

I am really surprised that with so many experts at running a city someone on here didn't know that most cities do this every so many years just to keep zoning accurate and reasonable for development purposes.

Yes 4:15 it could but it ain't. The experts have left this zoning in place since 1949? Why now? I guess time will tell.
Another thought? If it ain't broke don't fix it. The only land that is of concern is the large parcel behind Atwell's. The rest is pretty much a ruse.

What do you think of all the people who brought dogs to Party in the Park? What's with an empty V.I.P. area?

10:42 First off I'm not a dog owner but I believe most owners know their dogs better then anyone.
I noticed some small dogs, Chihuahaus on leashes, that seemed scared that they were going to get stepped on.
I only noticed one pit bull that didn't conform to city ordinance.
V.I.P. area? Well I kept watching that area to see if I could find any "movers & shakers" of Painesville seemed pretty empty.
The PCIC should be proud of what they put on every year for the last 31 years. If there is a complaint it seem it has out grown the Park. I walk down some narrow sidewalks. I like the idea of a Harvey/Riverside alumni/ reunion tent.
An instant bingo tent from out of the city surprised me.
The owners of Steele Mansion had a tent and progress is mocving forward. Expect a roof sometime in the near future. The plans include it becoming a bed and breakfast.

Dogs, tatooed people. Doesn't the city have a smoking ban on city property? I will never attend until it becomes a smoke free event!

Tatooed people? Come on, this is 2011, not 1950. If that keeps you away, then you are missing out for no reason. The dogs can be somewhat of a hassle. Not everybody likes dogs, and they can be scary. I myself brought my springer spaniel a few years ago. It was more of a pain because she loves everyone that walks by. I don't know why people want the burden of bringing their dog.

As to the smoking, come on, get over it. It is an outdoor event. This anti-smoking is overboard. There are more pollutants and chemicals coming out of the exhaust of the classic cars or the motors running the vendor trailers.

So right now the Cedarbrook area has 3 schools, bungalow homes built in the 40's, homes with built in the 60-70 my best guess), and Liberty Greens built most recently. We are hemmed in with Brentwood at one end and Kensington at the other(ugh). Don't forget being blocked off by train tracks on Chestnut and Liberty. Plus the flooding issue. Now add MORE houses? This is a huge disaster just waiting to happen.

The city statement last night was "presently" nothing is being planned?
It make sense to protect the property owners on Chestnut St. but I will never believe that this is the main purpose for the rezoning. If Goldberg Properties wants that three acres behind Atwell's rezoned let them do it the way everyone else has to do it.
