'SMOKE ON THE WATER' deep purple

I have sent the following e-mail to all council people and the News Herald and am now posting it here on the blog.

It has come to my attention that our Water Department Head has accepted a job in the city of Lorain.

My personal thoughts are that Mr. McGannon was a professional who would not compromise his integrity to appease the administration on their refusal to replace a 91 year old rusty waterline. It was the failure of the administration and council that Councilman Flock could not even get a 'second' for his resolution to replace the 91 year old waterline on Elm Street. Mr. McGannon saw their failure to respond to a crisis that affects the well-being of residents served by that waterline. It is nice to have plans and do studies, but it would seem to be obvious that the only solution to this problem is to replace the waterline. The city has contemplated this for at least 11 years. I wonder how much money has been spent to repair this line in those 11 years rather than replacing it.

Thank you for your time,

Angelo Cimaglio
Ward 4

Myself and other citizens have decided to form a PAC; and the PAC will be called "Painesville Oversight Committee". (POC) This committee is in the works and as soon as the proper paperwork is filed with the Lake County Board of Elections the mailing address will be posted here. When officers are elected their names will be posted as well. At present, my only position is messenger.

This committee's first endeavor will be to inform the residents of Painesville about the upcoming school levy. In the future we plan to endorse candidates along with the possibility of proposing charter changes for the city of Painesville; such as a charter change from the present city manager form of government to a mayor; or limiting the powers of the city manager position.

Your input will be welcome.

Holy Cow, Batman! We've got some people in this town who are REAL heroes in my book, and you are one of them. If not for this bunch, this city would be in a lot bigger trouble than it is already in. I cannot tell you how happy this information makes me. I am starting to feel better about things already. You have my hope, my prayers and my support. I'm behind you 100%.

Lead the way!

This is great!, Now when people print half truths and lies on here we can file legal challenges!

File away 6:08! I'll take a half-truth over the opaque stuff that passes for truth we are getting at present. I guess if you want to pursue a 'half-truth' or 'lie' then the truth itself will have to come out as a defense. Mission accomplished.

Is that a veiled threat, 6:08? Do you think the city will take the tack of chasing a PAC (a rather ill-advised move to alienate voters by picking on a group that represents those very same voters and taxpayers)... or maybe a refreshing change of course to the high road....where they actually read their packets before voting, quit insulting citizens that ask legitimate questions, and rein in those un-elected officials such as the city manager and law director.
I doubt it though, just by looking at past practice. They'll probably waste a huge amount of time and resources trying to undermine a group that they should really embrace. I hope city hall smartens up on this one.

Hey Ms Rita...will you start taking citizens' concerns seriously now?

I wish Mr McGannon all the best in his new endeavor. I would imagine it was difficult finding a new job in this economic climate....many candidates, several interviews...a time-consuming and worth-while effort for him. I sure hope that the coincidental timing of his good fortune and the revelations about the 91 yar old water line remain just that...a side-note to the bigger issue of a real problem on the north end of town. Mr Flock has the right (and duty) to ask those questions...its his ward, after all...and Mr McGannon has the right to move on to greener pastures when they become available. Again, good luck to you sir.

Now you and your crowd, TERM, have got my respect. I don't always agree with you, but forming a PAC is a good move. Good luck to you.

P.A.C it should be T.I.N.H.
(term is never happy)

There are things in my part of town that need fixed to, way older then that water line, we have an old water line that breaks every spring and we get over it.

To 6:08: Hopefully soon everyone will be working to get rid of all the mean, nasty, disrespectful, truth-evading people who are in power in this city. So if you are one of them, I hope you will need a plan #2 real soon.

I don't believe the non vote of council made him take a position with another city. I do believe the inaction of council made it easier to make that decision. Chances is are this move has been in the works for months, and the city managers position was the tipping point.

Just want to take a moment to thank you, Tony, John and the others who have been watching over us and this city so diligently. Such a love and dedication for a place is admirable and I, for one, truly appreciate it. Couldn't be happier with the new developments. Eagerly awaiting more information.

To 12:14: Maybe you shouldn't have to 'get over it"; maybe your tax dollars should be spent to keep or raise the quality of life in your part of town.
And I agree with you....Term is NEVER happy; he's in pursuit of something that doesn't exist...but we all benefit from him chasing that elusive goal.

THERE IS NOT ENOUGH TAX MONEY TO FIX EVERYTHING, LETS RAISE TAXES TO PAY FOR THE NEW WATER LINE, AND FOR STREETS, AND PARKS, YES PARKS TERM LOVES TO WASTE TAX MONEY ON PARKS, ALSO LETS GET MORE TAX MONEY TO PUT IN A POOL AND PARTY CENTER,
MAN-A-SCHEVETS

Maybe we should talk about that 38 million carryover? Maybe as Councilman Hada suggested we should raise our water bills another 3%, or maybe we should look around at what the county charges for water along with AquaOhio?
They say the carryover can't be used for the general funds, police, fire, roads, what about utilities?

At March 18, 2011 at 11:03 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

TERM is never happy? He believes Cobblestone residents along with the rest of the city residents have good EMS response times. I'm not happy because I see residents with rusty water, along with low water pressure. I'm not happy because I see the same homes in this city being used as a catch basin for our sewer department. I see roads that look like we're driving in bombed out Berlin after WWII. I see the city getting involved with FEMA money that they never should have been involved with, and people waiting over 5 years to get their money. Speaking of money yes our leaders got involved with a 50 year coal contract that never got off the ground. Now the solution will be to buy a gas fired plant from First Energy at twice the price they payed for it.[ stay tuned] I community that doesn't even know if the people living here, should even be here? Schools, who in their right mind would buy your home in Painesville to send their children to the highest priced and lowest scored system in the county?
Here's a secret there are places that don't have near as many problems with a lot higher quality of life and I can't believe more people aren't screaming from the rafters?
It exist's

Here's something to ask our city manger and electric officals. When was the last time or what amount of electricity is presently being produced at our electric plant? If my guess is right NONE. Then what are we paying the workers inside the plant for?

I would recommend this to anyone with a few hour on Saturday or Sunday to take in this show.

Term Not Happy? Finally admitted in print.
And that my friends is the meat of the problems from him and his followers. They seem to be angry & bitter people at the haves cuz they are the have-nots.
I too hope they will slip up and legal action can be taken.

OH - I thought the reason Mr McGannon left was to take a BETTER job. A higher pay, a higher position.
Goes back to my prior post. Term and followers seem to have it against those who "better" themselves. Ya know...the haves.

At March 19, 2011 at 5:05 PM , Anonymous TERM.>> said...

Nothing against anyone wanting to better themselves, just what was the purpose of the administration letting this person retire and then "double dip"?
BETTER job? this "have" used the city to better himself with no loyalty to the City of Painesville.
This all according to you?
What a way to become Ya know... the haves.

Sunshine, I have everything you have, we share the same problems.
The truth is you know these problems exist,Sunshine you just don't want your light to shine on them. You would much rather keep them in the dark where the mushrooms grow. Why?
Which one of the things I seem to be angry and bitter about because I'm a have-not do you believe I'm wrong about?
Streets
Schools
Water lines
Coal Plants
Which one or all of these are you happy to deal with?
If you want to argue about this lets setup a dialog with you using your real indentity? Didn't think so Sunshine. I have everything I need and most of what I want..... I don't consider myself a have-not.
If I'm a have-not what kind of legal actions are you talking about? Of course being a "have", you might want to take one of my rights away?
Yeah, I'm calling you out. No Guts?
Three comments from you in five minutes? Well have a blessed day anyway.

You're right, Tony, and if we had more TERMS and Murphy's in this town, we'd be a lot richer town, too. I am sure that all these million-dollar blunders would not have happened under their watch. They've been going on for decades -- all these million-dollar deals that no citizen can make heads nor tails out of no matter how hard they try.

I love the the comments on this blog. Democratic and full of opinion. Can you feel the shift occurring though? This blog is definitely a 'watchdog' on the city, as it should be. So it has its bias. That is known. But I must write, I love it when the pro hada click supporters chime in on here. Their comments are short and sweet and say nothing. Love the comment about water line breaking every spring and 'we get on it with it', this is a most absurd statement, is this person neighbor of Borat in Kazakstan? And the person talking about 'every one has the 'right to better themselves' ... this is nothing but a 'straw man' argument. NO basis on anything, take that argumentation back to 5th grade playground. Good luck with the POC.

It bothers me that information is posted here without verification. It's not good enough to call them "my personal thoughts" when you are attributing motive to someone else's actions. Did you talk to Mr McGannon? Or are you spinning his resignation to further your personal agenda?

So for that reason and others, I fear the POC will be just more of the same - rumor mongering. Genuine oversight is a good thing - sanctioned bullying is not.

At March 20, 2011 at 7:15 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

6:51 Sanctioned bullying? Have you ever attended or watched a council meeting? Mr.Gurley and Mr. Hada have made bullying an art form.

At March 20, 2011 at 1:29 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 6:51...I'll take your alleged 'rumor-mongering' over what passes for information from our administration. Getting facts/background/information out of council is worse than pulling hen's teeth. And Term muct be hitting closer to home than you want to admit since all the Hada cheerleaders have crawled out of the woodwork to post veiled threats of legal action. The administration is taking the wrong tack here...these are concerned, voting, taxpaying citizens; not the enemy.

If our city government was so transparent and efficient then we wouldn't need an oversight committee, would we? Don't let the fact that you don't care for the messenger cloud the real issues. Could we leave personalities behind and actually move forward to get something..anything...accomplished?
