We are now an official PAC. Painesville Oversite Committee [POC} will hold an organization meeting Tuesday March 22, 2011 at 6:00pm at Chesters Restaurant west room. All are invited to attend. Your comments and input will be welcomed.
This could be the start of Painesville being put back on track.
Council Meeting Monday Night shows many items possible being tabled. Along with a presentation on Economic Development by Assistant Manager Doug Lewis.
The visitors comments should be interesting.

Council meeting was interesting, to say the natives are a little restless would be an understatement. That's just my opinion and some on council don't believe I should have one. Water lines, streets, Millstone, abatement, electric bills, sewers, many questions few answers. Take the time to view the meeting.

Congratulations to you all on the Painesville Oversight Committee (POC)! I would also like to take a moment here to thank all of you for your past work on behalf of the citizens and the City of Painesville, and to thank you for caring so much that you are willing to formally organize now.
I do believe that the peasants finally have a voice!
Thank you so very much.
S. Kramer
A handful of armchair politicians; what a joke!
To bad you and your Landlords, have to hold mtgs. in a bar all of the time ?
A lot will not come.
4:12 The joke happens to be the politicians and administrator's we pay good money to do the job. Water line question, with ALL the bad water lines supposedly in Painesville how much was set aside in this year's budget for water line pipe repacement?
if you expose whats going on behind the curtain, with amp ohio, the EPA and millstone, the lack of cooperation with other cites over EMS responce and tax reductions on the hospital and chase bank properties.please give us some help with these issues. this city has needed a PAC for a long time, and lots of us are behind your oversight committee.
Do you plan to hold fundraisers? Can you announce the officers of your PAC now. Good luck with your endeavors.
Don't know? We haven't even gone that far yet. The most important item presently is to inform Painesville residents to the May 3,2011 levy.
I've read what the Governors Budget that was presented and It looks as if Painesville Schools might be spared major budget cuts?
Hey 4:22....I give the POC credit for patronizing and promoting our local establishments. Are you not going to attend because its a bar or because you don't like the people involved? Or are those just your excuses because you are afraid to be seen taking a stand in public? And if it isn't any of the above...then what exactly is your objection? I'll go just out of curiosity.
Well, well, well. it's about to get very interesting. Hey on another note, who put the fill dirt over there in my favorite wetlands area?
I would say in my opion post 4;12 and p0st 4;22 comes from a couuncil person. I will explain my concern. I have attended several town hall meeting's [Andy Flock] has arranged. I never seen Hada, Hach,Fountain, ever attend. I have attended several concerned citizen's meeting,s. [Hal Werner] has arranged. I never seen Hada, Hach, Fountain, ever attend. THIS MY FELLOW RESIDENT,S may be why our water line is not being replaced on ELM ST. THIS MY FELLOW RESIDENT,S may be why our sewer,s in the CEDARBROOK area , HINE AVE area which have been brought to the total council attention at the last recent council meeting,s to be repaired is not being done. J. R .
After listening to Dr. Hanlon and the school board have been screaming about "The sky is falling" and now we find out the state cuts are no where near what they claimed. If the levy passes in May expect everyone to live high on the hog when contracts come due. I voting NO and have explained this to as many neighbors as I can. So many were even unaware of the election.
To 9:41, Stop pointing blame fingers, every school district in the state expected huge cuts, the consensus among every school board and superintendant in the state was cuts were coming. Quit acting like it was just Hanlon and our board.
This blog used to actually have some good info, now it is just turning into a bunch of mis-informed complainers.
To 9:41 am, you are so wrong, get your facts right.
"The main payment made by the state to school districts -- known as the state's foundation formula -- goes up slightly in Kasich's budget -- 1.4 percent in 2012 and 1.3 percent in 2013.
However, the total amount that school districts get drops by 11.5 percent in 2012, and 4.9 percent in 2013. That adds up to a drop of $3.14 billion over both years combined -- a sum that includes the loss from the tax policy changes as well as the loss of federal stimulus funds used to prop up the current budget."
12:07 maybe 12:16 could expand on this budget. What happens to 2011 budget? Do we still get the Federal funds in the next three years. To blame anyone is crazy but trying to figure out all the facts? Overwhelming.
People read in the paper that the state will increase school budgets and I see 12:16 arguement.
Something tells me the 6.56 levy isn't the answer.
What my question seems to be is if the state cuts the schools budget more then the money we will be voting on in May, what will the board do, ask for more money in November? This seems to be a situation we can't seem to get out of. If the levy passes will the state cut more of our funding?
You will be hearing some surprising news from the School Board in the next couple of days.
What's the deal Term, did you find more unenlightened people to complain at the council meeting?
Yes we will
LAY OFFS AND MORE LAY OFFS
To 8:17....kind of arrogant of you don't you think? Calling residents with legitimate complaints and the right to voice their concerns 'unenlightened'. Its that kind of attitude that the administration has projected (on a regular basis) that has them in the spot they're in now. You wouldn't by any chance be a city employee....you sound like one.
Yes, the unenlightened were out in force at the council meeting. first lets talk about 60 bales of hay that was being used to stop soil erosion? Seems that hay is ending up in the sewers? A lady who lives on Oak St. with a street sign at the start of her street "Travel At Your Own Risk" the city sign department should make a gross of those, there are many streets that could use that information. Questions about whose paying for the water thats coming out of the fire hydrants on Elm St.? Well that's one way to keep the rust out. The lady that wondered why her utility bill was estimated for the last three months? Was told by a lady in the utility department we only have two meter readers, and she could read her own meter?
Someone else explaining to council that the city manager works for them and not the other way around, she acted poorly grabing the newspaper out of councilman Flocks hand, along with how many project will this city start without completing one? To directly quote him "The residents are getting pissed off and all your jobs are in danger". I tryed to have abatement explained top me, well atleast the way Painesville does it along with it's cost to the schools. Council President Hada told me that he and other members of council on the downtown development committee knew what they were doing, even after mentioning a council member that wasn't on the committee. Also that the schools were informedf about all abatement.
John Murphy brought information about the FEMA grant that he believed members hadn't seen.
When he mentioned to law director Gurley that he was handling the lawsuit for the city the law director said it was a "rhetorical" question?
rhetorical a. 1. EXPRESSIVE articulate,eloquent,fluent, persuasive,wellsaid,"silvertonged"
2.GRANDILOQUENT magniloquent,bombastic,fustian, verbose,pretentious,high sounding,inflated?
You have to wonder which one he meant it to be?
All and all ithe unenlightened made their presence known. I'm sure council will be hearing from more in in the future.
One councilman seemed to have nodded off a few times during the meeting.
Unbelievable. So the city IS handling the lawsuit with the Bear. Didn't McMahon just point-blank say that the city had nothing to do with the lawsuit not too long ago? I moved here over 20 years ago, and it has been like this the whole time. You cannot believe one thing that comes out of their mouths.
This is the Kingdom of the Forked-Tongue. No wonder the citizens cannot ever figure out these million-dollar deals the city keeps getting us involved in. They only give us half of the information -- the half that THEY want us to know about. They don't want us to know about the OTHER half, because that's where the shocking parts come in.
So it took Murphy to uncover the fact that they city, as we all thought, is up to their eyeballs in this lawsuit -- and WE are paying for it.
Investigations, investigations, investigations. We need investigations.
P.S. Now this makes what DiNallo and Fodor said at the last council meeting sound even more stupid. (DiNallo asked what good could it possibly do to talk to the Bear, or some such other stupid statement, and Fodor asked wouldn't the Bear have to drop the lawsuit in order for the city to talk to the Bear.)
When the hell are the next elections? Are they this year, I hope? We have got to get these people out of office, and they can take McMahon with them.
I wish that John Murphy would be more prepared when he speaks to city council. He gets up there and pauses, hems and haws and takes forever to make his point. He should write on paper what he has to say and read it!
When John speaks to you or a small group he is fine. In John's defense getting up to the podium in a courtroom where at least three people that have spoken ill or lied about you and also ready to jump at you the first chance to embaress you, yes it causes hems and haws. John knows it comes with the territory.
John's old school He believes you should be able to address the council without the attacks.
Bill Baxter said it best. The people are pissed off.
to 10:03, there well may be layoffs, but that's not what I'm referring to. Some very surprising news. CPR
This is 11:41 adding to my post. And didn't Gurley and/or Hada just recently - within the last month or two -- nastily say at a council meeting that the City of Painesville had nothing to do with the lawsuit??!! Now we find out that we are the other half of the lawsuit? Really, you can't believe one thing these people say. If they told me there was still a sky outside, I would have to go look to make sure.
Just a word about Murphy -- he's standing up there on behalf of all of us. I think he's trying to keep it aboveboard and keep it civil, and not stoop to their level. I don't believe that he is used to conducting business in the childish, abusive, evasive, slimy way that the city does. Go back and listen to the runaround he gets and the attacks and the nastiness. I am sure he would welcome any backup. I, for one, want to say thanks to John.
The guy that said P----- off was a joke, did he not know he was on TV.
Some of you might have gotten a mix understanding about Gurley's "rhetorical" answer.
The truth is the condo association I believe is represented by a Mr. Walker. Painesville only holds the money from FEMA for distribution.
This along with the unconnected WRRSP Grant is how Painesville will finance the Millstone acquisition. It's complicated.
Although at the last meeting I heard the the Law Director was handling the acquisition for the city?
He said it during the council meeting. I heard him that's why it's here. Wonder if it will be in the council minutes?
Some one should ask the schools about the fight Monday, between the Hispanics, Whites, and Black. This fight even spilled over into the Middle school.
To, John Murphy
We are from WV and we know what rhetorical means, what is wrong with you ?
Please run for office you will fit right in.
When i become a council member in 2012, and there is a word that I don't understand, I will do my homework, prior to voting. I will be serving the residents of painesville city, and I guarantee you that the streets, sewers, water lines will be IN THE city budget.I think that you will agree that they should have been in past budget,s LOOKING FORWARD TO SERVING THE RESIDENT,S OF OUR CITY. [ to post 3;47] .JOHN MURPHY.
THE PRESENT COUNCIL MEMBER,S with the exception of ANDY FLOCK ward 1, gave the city manager over 12 MILLION dollar,s in the GENERAL FUND. now they say uh where are we going to get the money for waterlines, streets, sewers???? PLEASE, I THINK MURPHY WOULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS, WITH THE CURRENT BUDGET. ALEX.
John, go ahead run......3 times ? Not
what say you 7;57 don't you want a BETTER city, John has alot of very good plan,s for our community. WE NEED TO SUPPORT HIM. he will walk the walk and get thing,s done. TONY.
POC? you and your little gang of unenlightened friends have really Jumped the Shark this time.
Swinsid... Jumped the shark? HOW?
You have abandoned your core grounds/values/issues/ideas and are declining in a way that goes beyond a recovery.
Now I have people telling me what core grounds/values/issues/ideas are in decline? Look arond have you looked at your city lately?
