"THE ANSWER MY FRIEND IS BLOWIN " pp&m

Rick Taylor, Finance Director for Painesville City Schools will be present at Councilman Flocks Town Hall Meeting Thursday September 30,2010 at the "New" Huntington Elementary School going by the 'alias" of Elm St. Elementary School on Elm St. at 7:00 pm. Like I mentioned before this is not a pro or anti levy meeting this was setup to ask any questions you might have about the PCLS financial condition and how this could affect your budget. I can only hope CHARTERLADY attends.

AMP-OHIO will meet with city council sometime in the middle of next month. I have no idea as to whether the public can ask questions.
As soon as I hear about a date and time I will post it on the blog. Sometime around the 18th of 15 to 20th of the month.

Monday afternoon at 4:30 pm Governor Strickland's bus tour will be at Lake Erie College come meet and greet the Governor.

Went to the Harvey /Riverside game and watched a damn good football game. With the prices of entertainment being what they are today. I believe you can't get more bang for your buck.

Who's Birthday is January 27th? Should we do anything SPECIAL?

Funny Term are you the one driving the Governor here? Seems it's not happening in Painesville, or it's either not news worthy.

Governor Strickland spoke for about an hour at Lake Erie College today around 5:15pm. Even got to shake his hand. Can't figure out why the papers didn't have anything about him coming today.

At September 30, 2010 at 12:58 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The News-Herald probably didn't have anything about the Strickland appearance because they are a Republican newspaper. That's the way I see it anyway.

At September 30, 2010 at 3:46 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

OR, just maybe the Democrats at Lake Headquarters dropped the ball and didn't inform them he was coming? I will agree with you that the News-Herald should be called the Republican Rag.
Always leaned that way.

At September 30, 2010 at 1:15 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is 12:58. Yes, the problem could be that the Democrats dropped the ball. People are starting to vote already and I have yet to receive my Democratic voting info from them. They are supposed to send out their information on how to vote a straight Democratic ticket from the smallest office to the largest -- all of which matter in the long run, but they have not done it yet. Very negligent.

At September 30, 2010 at 4:29 PM , Anonymous Badger said...

Is this a sample of the voters we have in Painesville. People who need to be told who to vote for instead of people becoming informed voters. If you must vote a straight ticket, is it that hard to read what party the candidate belongs to?

No wonder we are stuck with the same problems over and over. Is a straight ticket either way doing what's best for the country or maybe we need to be more informed and thus better voters.

Just my opinion.

Badger, both parties put out staight ticket ballots, and yes some party loyalist vote straight tickets. Its like those people must love being lied too.
Badger I will be putting my thoughts about some local and state races be prepared for your take on my thoughts.

At September 30, 2010 at 7:03 PM , Anonymous Badger said...

Yes, both parties put out straight tickets listing their own party's candidates. Is that a surprise? I would expect that. It is up to us to become informed voters and not lemmings for either party.

I'm sure your choices will be different from mine. Most of my votes will probably just cancel yours out. So we will have to hope enough people vote intelligently in November.

I just hope that voters do a little research and not just listen to the negative campaigning, vote the way their parents voted, vote for who their union told them, or vote the way some newscaster or celebrity says they should.

Do I need to mention the farce Steven Colbert made of himself in front of Congress. Is this the direction politics are going now? No wonder our country is going to the dogs.

This is 1:15. I DO happen to be a very informed voter, but many people are not, and sometimes it IS hard to tell which party someone is affiliated with. And not all people are as informed as they should be. I knew as soon as I said that, that I would get some rude answer. And yes, I do think voting a straight Democratic ticket is what is best for the country. All offices are very important, and if you vote for the person, you had better like their party, because that is what you are going to get. I happen to think that the Democrates just saved this country from total collapse, and as I said, every office is important for the party. Some smaller offices, for example, have a lot to do with drawing up districts, and they all draw the districts to suit their own party, especially the Republicans.

It is the duty of the party to make those mailings to make SURE that everyone in their party is informed on every office. Nothing stupid about it, Badger. It IS part of being an informed voter.

And to Term, what kind of statement is that, that people who vote the straight party line must love being lied to? That statement makes no sense to me.

At October 1, 2010 at 3:45 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Staight ticket? Thats how people like Jimmy Demora, and Russo hold power. Do you think the people who voted year after year for them seem a little foolish? That's how your lied too.
Badger Steven Colbert is a comedian, please explain what those two ladies running for the Senate are? Angle, and O'Donnel?
Besides Tea-Partyers?

Yes, he is a comedian. What's he doing his routine in front of a session of Congress for then. Don't we have enough problems to solve and not have time to waste on this?

Can most voters who vote a straight ticket honestly consider themselves truly informed. No one party has all the answers. Let's face it, there are good and bad politicians in both parties. As Term said, has voting for only Democrats in Cuyahoga County elected the best candidates. I only use this example because we have heard about this for the last 2 years. Do we want any of this to happen anywhere in the country??

We need to vote the criminals and useless out of office, regardless of what party they belong. We need more who will serve the country and not just run for re-election. Judicial, school board and city council races are suppose to be non-partisan. Anyone who runs for office is political. Still, it takes money to run for office. Just ask any candidate. The higher the office the more it costs. Do you really want some political party or someone who doesn't live in Painesville decide who should run for city council or the school board???? What about the city manager, she's not even elected. Where has the school board got our schools? Still last in the county.

We need to stop being lemmings. Stop assuming all the typical stereotypes of either party still apply. Things need to change. The worker is going to have to stop expecting automatic pay raises. The companies are going to have to find a way to keep the jobs here in America. The government is going to have to reduce spending and lower both personal and business tax rates. If we all work together, there will be more money for everyone to spend. When we spend more, we create jobs here. We can't spend our way out of debt or unemployment. We must WORK our way out of debt and unemployment.

During the Depression, we had the PWA. Public Works Administration. We built roads and dams just to name a few. We created jobs and thus created things of value. Now we just borrow the money and hand it out in unemployment. Only thing this does is create more debt, both nationally and in our state. Well I believe the bubble will burst if we don't all start working together. We all need to hold up our part. We need JOBS, not excuses. Tell me what you will do to create jobs and forget who's to blame. That's who will get my vote. How about yours????

1:15 After re-reading your comment I to believe the Democrats saved this country from a Depression. The same people who want to take us back to the Bush era along with pushing for the TARP.
Where was this country headed? GM bankrupt? Chyrsler along with them? Did Obama "takeover" the automobile industry or save it? Wall St. now what exactly have they produced? Someone who works as a broker on Wall St. asked the President how long he was going to hit Wall St. like a pinyata? Jon Steward had the best answer until the F%&% candy comes out. Most Americans would love to get hit with that money stick. Now the other guys say there's tom much regulation, guess they want a sequel? Bush tax cuts? Did they work? Healthcare lets go back and give all our money to the insurance companies as well as the not for profit Health providers.
Tea Partiers can't wait to see how upset you will be in two years.
Remember two words "ear-marks" How's that working out with the Senator that believes science has perfected putting a human brain into a mouse, along with the ones that want to abolish Social Security and Medicare. Hope you weren't counting on that.
It will be an interesting two years because Obama will become the party of NO. What goes around comes around.

This is 1:15.I watched in horror as the country turned on Democrats last time and voted in Bush. The Democrats were finally turning this country around, and we were all starting to do much better. Then along came Bush and he told Karl Rove's lies and half-truths just as fast as he could get them out of his mouth. People were so uninformed, they followed him right into hell. Look what they did in eight years. The Republicans almost took down our entire country. Now here we go again with people so uninformed, they are turning against the Democrats, even though Obama has done an outstanding job of saving this country AND advocating for the American people against the Credit Card companies, Wall Street, Health Insurance Companies, etc., etc., etc. Most of these tea-partiers are so new to politics that they are just doing and saying stupid things, in my opinion -- with the country in the balance.

Badger, voting a straight party ticket has nothing to do with voting for city council, etc. And I just love the way you keep saying don't place blame. That's because it was the Republicans who almost destroyed our country, and you don't want anyone pointing fingers at the Republicans. And I did not vote for those crooked people in Cuyahoga County, nor did I ever say that I VOTED a straight party line, although I probably will -- knowing that if I VOTE for a Republican, I will GET a Republican, and the older I get the more I am certain that I do not want to vote for a Republican. You said to stop assuming that the typical stereotypes still apply to the parties. Well, not only do they still apply, but they apply more now than ever. Every year the Republicans shock me more and more. We HAVE seen what they do over and over, and they are promising to do more of the same. I think people have to be insane to follow them any more. And when I listen to the lies and half-truths that they still tell, and the people who follow them because they are too uninformed to do differenty, it scares the hell out of me. People had better stop following the crowd and get informed or they ARE going to finish taking down our country. Why don't you take some of that overly-judgmental attitude and take a good, hard look at how the old stereotypes DO still apply to the parties. A spade is still a spade, and a Republican is still a Republican.

This is 1:15, adding to my last post. There is one caveat. If the candidate is a Latino, I would vote for a Republican if that was my only choice. As you can see by watching and listening to what goes on in local, state and national governmental proceedings, all Latinos want to give American away to the Latinos. We have to be very careful not to elect anyone who is Latino to any governmental position in America, and that DOES include city position.

And one more thing about Republicans -- when they were fighting Obama's health care bill, I watched a couple of those scary people say that if you got really sick, you could rely on your neighbors like people used to be able to do. They said it several times, too. Just like they thought and still think that we can all personally invest our Social Security money, and that there does not need to be a program run by the country. Can you imagine what would be happening to everyone who just lost all their retirement savings (or most of it) because of the market crash if they did not have their Social Security to fall back on. Scary. Republicans are just scary. And, as I said, the stereotypes are very much still alive and well, because Democrats are still Democrats and the Republicans are still Republicans.

I just watched an ad by John Kasich on school funding. The man went on television and complained about the bureaucracy in the states school system. Well wanabee governor why not tell the people how after you left congress Governor Taft appointed you to some recency at OSU for which you are paid $50,000 a year and work a total of four hours a month to receive this payout, sorry John that's a lot of scolarship money. Maybe you need the $50,000 a year for some reason or other you don't want to release your tax records for the time you worked on Wall Street.

In case a lot of you forgot your civics from high school....the president rarely has the 'juice' to push anything through...he's the figurehead for his party and whatever it stands for. The last president that actually had enough clout to get Congress to do things they really didn't want to do was LBJ; and we're talking over 45 years ago. He also got a lot of BAD advice and that's why we were stuck in Vietnam. (remember the military-industrial complex that Eisenhower talked about... 55 years ago) We refuse to learn from history and so are doomed to repeat it...

I am not going to assign blame to one person for all our problems...neither Bush or Obama are single-handedly responsible for where we stand today. How about the career politicians and bureaucrats that collect their taxpayer-funded paychecks and work behind the scenes with the lobbyists to set policy.

According to some of you people...we tanked in just 4 (or eight) years and nothing that happened before that had anything to do with it. No president comes in with a clean slate...they ALL have to deal with what was left to them...and much of that legacy has its roots in decisions made decades ago. Understand the past, learn from it...and then deal with the realities of today.

Before Bush took over, Bill Clinton had this country in good shape, and we were getting better all the time. But people listened to the Republicans half truths and lies, just like they are doing now, and out went the Democrats and in came the Republicans. Total disaster. It is what it is.

Interesting fact is that the sub-prime loans increased from 2% of loans to over 14% of loans from 1993 to 1999. Since these loans had great deal to do with the housing collapse and the huge numbers of foreclosures we are now seeing, blame must be cast on more than one president or party.

http://www.ode.state.oh.us/reportcardfiles/2009-2010/BUILD/015560.pdf

The above is the direct link to the page detailing Harvey High School's state scores/ratings.
This is the break-down according to that site for 2008-09:

The are 9 catagories for students graduating...Harvey only has figures for 7 because the other two do not apply...
these figures are graduation rates.

Black Non-Hispanic....58.8%
Economically Disadvantaged....61.2%
Hispanic....45.5%
Limited English Proficiency...37.9%
Multi-Racial....72.7%
Students w/Disabilities....76.5%
White Non-Hispanic....75%

The overall graduation rate for Harvey is 65.7%.

And before anyone jumps on me for using any descriptive language that may or may not be considered politically correct...those catagory names are the state's words...not mine.

Another interesting number is the Performance Index based on a scale of 0 to 120. Here's Harvey's for the last 3 years:
2007-08...85.0
2008-09...84.8
2009-10...83.0

There's lots more there...its a very interesting site.
I strongly suggest anyone interested go there, make some comparisions and draw your own conclusions.
