"UPSIDE DOWN" chicago

Well the Arizona law was, for the most part, put on hold. An interesting question did come up: if states can not make or enforce state laws, are "sanctuary" cities legal?
As I have stated numerous times, if you want to lose an election... tell your voters you are for comprehensive immigration policy. Although I believe the Obama administration and other Democrats are on the wrong side of this issue, one thing pops out. This administration has deported more illegals and cracked down on more employers who hire them. Did we all forget about George Bush's buddy Johnny Sutton? His wisdom was to put border guards in jail. To President Bush's credit, he did pardon them as he left office.
It seems everything in this country is presently upside down inside out. Sorta like the Sixties?
People who broke the law to be here now want "rights" Did it ever dawn on them that the reason we have rights is we followed the laws? Along with them still marching and complaining.
In this time when we are at war, along with oil spilling into the gulf. we spend an hour to watch where some guy from Akron is going to play basketball next year, and at the same time explain loyalty to us?
This Miami experiment in my eyes just won't work unless the NBA changes its rules and start playing games with three balls.
Everytime I think its all going to pot I am blessed by reading something like this editorial that was in last weeks News-Herald

"Second-class citizen"

Today, I watched on C-Span a hearing on the new "Comprehensive Immigration Bill." Today my citizenship became second class behind that of the 12 million illegal immigrants, 60 percent of whom are from Mexico.
Our government has allowed the illegal immigrants to break our laws, take our jobs, crowd our schools, cost our hospitals billions of dollars and still we have no say, no vote.
Our Presidents, Mr. Bush and Mr. Obama, have conspired with Mexican presidents, Mr. Fox and Mr. Calderon, to allow illegals free passage to our country, and in doing so, jobs.
Mexico encourages their citizens to enter our country because it needs the money the illegals send home, as it is the second highest means of commerce in Mexico.
They encourage 450,000 to 900,000 workers every year to leave Mexico so their own economy does not collapse.
No one cares - not our representatives nor our senators, nor especially the employers who hire the illegals - that our US citizenry is suffering severe unemploymentand depressed wages.
Our country and our sovereignty are at risk. But still these men and women who are aupposed to represent us push for "amnesty."
The laws they push state that the illegals must earn citizenship. They must go to the back of the line. Where is that? Well, America, it is here! They keep their illegal job, pay a small fine and pay taxes. But where is the punishment for breaking our laws? The punishment is ours, the citizenry of the good ol' U.S. of A. Our children, our country.
We are going to get the shaft again. The biggest punishment is the erosion of our vote. We will now be behind another special interest group.
The Democrats want the vote, the Republicans the cheap labor.
Wake up America. How much more destruction from our so-called representatives of the peope can we take?
Jacqueline Bell
Eastlake

Jacqueline gets it how many of the rest do?

WILL EXPLAIN THE AMP- MEETING AS SOON AS I UNDERSTAND AND OR MAKE SURE WHAT I HEARD?
Example Its not a fine, its mitigation. Well what if we don't join the mitigation? Well then you are subject to the fine?
You can pay $88,000 or become a full partner for a million dollars over three years? No it not like that. Thats what you said?
Anyway this is to some of us old enough to remember going to movies back in the day. This was the Gorsuch cartoon, before the main feature Meigs County.

Jacqueline Bell has made some good points.

However, I believe both parties will court any vote they can get. I, also believe that the Republican Party is not an employer. They don't manufacture or build anything. They have no factories or stores. In other words, it is employers from both parties that hire ILLEGALS.

I know businesses in Painesville that are owned by R's and D's that employ ILLEGALS. It is up to us to support or not support these businesses. How many here stopped buying BP gas because of the spill and environmental disaster it has produced? Hiring ILLEGAL immigrants and amnesty will only produce an economic disaster we will all have to pay for along with our children and grandchildren.

So when will we wake up? Hopefully on November 2nd and again in 2012. Vote vote vote.

The day of Democrats are for the working man and Republicans are for big business is disappearing. Who is portrayed as evil and or good depends on who is in power and the events happening in the US or World. Take the war. In the 60's and 70's, it was the Democrats who were in power and thus the war mongers. Then cam Iraq and it became the Republicans.

If we can only open our eyes and see the greatest challenge to the average American is our elected official. We elect inept, unethical, dishonest or just plain idiots to represent us. With all the TARP, bailouts, government take overs, increased personal and business governmental rules and regulations, government is the NEW Big Business that we need to fear. Government is slowly turning America into one giant coal mining town were they control everything from the company store, your job, your health care, your schools, your bank accounts, the media you watch and your personal privacy.

Think I'm being a little to much conspiracy theory? Maybe. While we need to make some changes to adapt to the current economic situation, we seem to be over correcting. We need the pendulum to swing a little away from wall street, big business and the banks. But we also need to make sure we don't let it swing so far toward the government that we loose our rights. Remember, the government doesn't make anything. Any job they create must be paid for by the American worker. They don't make a profit only a deficit. It is our money they are spending.

Badger 8:24: We are not losing any of our rights to the government. Big Business is losing their ability to screw us at will -- that's all.
As far as the bailouts are concerned. They kept America from collapsing. Plus, most of the money came back to the government, I believe, and some with a profit.
We just had 8 years of the government letting businesses do whatever they wanted, including get rewarded for taking our jobs to other countries.
The American people are starting to be protected now with Obama. Nothing has swung too far. He's watching over businesses, too, to help them, while making sure that they don't continue to ravage the American people and America.

Again, The New Big Business.

It is the government people, not the just one party or the other or oil, wall street, and the banks.

What other group even comes close to 3.8 Trillion dollars. The vast majority of that amount comes from 4 areas.

1st is health and human services.

2nd is our Social Security program.

3rd comes defense

4th is the treasury department which includes the interest on the debt.

The human services (add health care) and Social Security will be every growing. We can decrease defense spending only so much without jeopardizing our national security. Then comes interest on our national debt. Believe it or not but it is rapidly approaching the money we pay for defense. This is the area we should make the most improvement.

What we need to do is to get more Americans back to work and off welfare or unemployment. More workers means more tax revenue and the best way to stimulate the economy. More Americans at work and not ILLEGAL immigrants who send their money home puts more money into our economy and not Mexico's. More Americans working means more taxes coming in and less deficit spending and interest being paid out. The more of us working and paying their fair share will help reduce the need to raise taxes. Believe me, the tax increases are coming unless we get Americans back to work.

In all the years I've been working, I never got a job from a poor man or one that was on welfare.

To Badger and Kathy, Why were the Bush tax cuts not made permanent when they were passed?
How much of these tax cuts helped out our economy?
I guess some of the cuts could stay but all and all they don't seem to have done what they were meant to do.
An example reinvestment by the wealth was made. Problem was most of the investment was made in China or in another foreign country.,siphoning off many more jobs here in the states.
Again call it class warfare if you wish but I really don't care if LeBron James, Paris Hillton, the late Ken Lay, ect. keep their tax cut. Federal taxes in America have never been lower. Deficit? Tell me what you want to cut. What programs have you picked for the chopping block. Also who was the last Republican President who balanced, or left a surplus? I can't believe all of you are so ready to turn this country back to the people in my eyes screwed it up the most. I know I'll get hammered about this but oh well. Badger you are watching to much Glenn Beck.

Under the R's, our entire country almost collapsed. Now the R's are acting like it's the D's fault that the entire country almost collapsed and America lost so many jobs and so many Americans are out of work. In 18 months, the D's saved our entire country from collapse. EVERYONE knows that we need the economy to pick back up and to have more jobs. That is already happening under Obama. Pretty impressive stuff. Why would the R's keep acting like the D's don't know that we need jobs? And why would the R's keep acting like it's the D's fault that we don't have enough? And why would the R's keep acting like the solution is to put the R's back in power when they're the ones who almost collapsed our entire country.
R's need a reality check. Seriously. And anyone who is being swayed by their unrealistic view of things better check the facts before the R's DO get back in power and finish off the collapse of the entire United States of America.

Sorry 2:23 I disagree.

I watch news from all sources, even overseas reports on America. If you only look at things from one perspective, you aren't getting the whole picture. I try to follow the bills in congress along with the way different congressmen vote on the issues. Their voting record is more important than a campaign speech or a news report.

Government is playing the game of Monopoly with our money. They are setting the rules as changing them as time goes by. Take the car company take overs. They got involved in private business and set rules for them to follow. Same with the banks, wall street, and the insurance companies. Now we get to health care. They will fine businesses and the average American if they don't get health insurance. They will use the IRS to be the company henchman.

We used to have Social Security for the elderly and Human services for the poor and needy and of course our national defense. Now we have the government in the car, banking, hospital and health insurance business. Just as the coal miners where dependent on the coal company, we are becoming dependent on the government for more and more. We are beginning to be a country of subjects instead of a country of hard working, independent thinking and all the rest of the great tributes that made America what it was. I am afraid of what we are becoming if we don't start getting our act together and vote the clowns out and elect someone who is willing to work for the American people and not the political agenda of saying anything to get elected or re-elected. We need to stop this vicious cycle.

The largest increase if the Bush tax cuts end will be those in the lowest income bracket. They now pay 10% rate and will increase to 15%. The rest of the brackets will increase about 3% each. So those most impacted by this will not be the rich, but the poorer taxpayers less able to afford it. Term, I believe you fall into that bracket too. I fail to see what this has to do with me watching Glen Beck or not. Believe it or not. I have never watched his show. I do my own research and form MY OWN opinions on things. I don't go to a Ford dealer and expect them to say anything positive about another car maker. So, if my opinion is different from yours, so be it. We all get just one vote.

By the way, Congress spends the money, not the President. So, what party controls congress under any President has a great deal to do with the deficit. Check who was in congress when Clinton had his surplus. Who was on the budget committee. You also need to research the increase in the national debt too. The national debt is constantly increasing. Now it happens to be increasing faster than any time since WW II. This also has nothing to do with any NEWS source or political commentator. Just as you can make statistics say anything you want, you can also edit news coverage. You can't get the real picture by justnwatching FOX or CNN. Now we seem to get Bob Uecker stats from Major League as news stories. The voting record and what is actually in the bills passed that make the difference.

I don't think that most of the Arizona law was shot down. Only one or two pieces of it. They WERE granted one or two things that they did not have in the past. I don't think it will make much difference in the short term. They have the couple of new pieces on top of their old laws, which are pretty good. Together, they have a lot of power to help themselves. Some evidence of this is that the out-of-control illegals who are marching and protesting in OUR streets were getting arrested. The gall of these people is just almost too much for me anymore. Hopefully it is spurring a lot of Americans who were content to let others fight for their country FOR them to get off their behinds and do something to help to get these people out of here already. Really, the nerve. . .

At August 3, 2010 at 7:01 PM , Anonymous Badger said...

I also don't need anyone to tell me what I see every day. Certainly not some high paid political commentator who is mainly out for ratings. Same as elected officials saying what they think you want to hear, just to get your vote.

Tell me, just what do you think Jose ILLEGAL is looking for when he comes to Painesville. Could it be some of the things I mentioned? The things my new neighbors get every day while I go to work. This is so much bigger than the usual Democrat vs Republican battle. We need to wake up and see the writing on the wall. Stop listening to NEWS reporters telling us how and what to think. Being financially responsible is just good common sense. Same thing goes for jobs for Americans.

So, if lowering or keeping tax rates the same, more jobs, reducing the deficit, a honest representative that actually works for us is a bad thing. What do those of you who think my opinion is so wrong want. Higher taxes, less jobs, political corruption and more government regulation?

Come November 2nd, don't vote for me. Opps, I'm not on the ballot. Call me anything you want, it won't change my opinions. When I vote, it will be for anyone who is going to do what I think is best for the country. Not for someone some fat cat tells me I should. My problem is with the government and not with whether someone is a Democrat or Republican. Go ahead and hate me all you want, just remember, it's the country that is important. It is where our children and their children will live. Just what do we want to pass on to them.

This is Tues., 8/3/10, and I just read the article in The News-Herald about the AMP meeting. Maybe I don't understand all of this ridiculous gobbledygook double-talking, so someone please set me straight if I am not getting this correctly.
It looks like we stupidly became owners in the AMP Gorsuch coal plant. Now the plant owes a $15 million fine. We, of course, owe part of that fine BECAUSE WE WERE STUPID ENOUGH TO BECOME PART OWNERS OF THE PLANT. Now they are throwing all kinds of crap out there that basically says that one way or the other, we will owe more for our electricity now. They are concealing this by talking circles around the fact that people will be conserving energy in their homes on their own so they will owe less when the bills go up. Really, who will be conserving? I, along with everyone else I know, are already conserving as much as possible. Some sort of ridiculous talk about some energy-efficient program to teach us how to conserve energy so the rise in our bills from this huge mistake will be less. McMahon is talking about combined coupons/rebates for energy-efficient appliances, light bulbs and other products. What a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Hada is saying that everyone is going to be more energy conscious because that's what is good for economic development, businesses and homeowners.
Give me a freaking break.
They got us into a bad deal (one of the many) with AMP Ohio. Now our choices are to pay our share ($84,000.00), or get into another deal with them. If we get into another deal with them for energy, to hide this mess, it will cost the city approximately $1 million over three years. How many hours did it take these AMP people, McMahon and Hada, etc. to come up with this dog and pony show and the ridiculousness of this presentation?!
And let's not forget the newest, most recent deal we got into with AMP where we pay thousands of dollars a year to power one home from energy from a landfill so we could PRETEND that we had a green enegy project there.
This is what I think we need to do. Pay the damn $84,000.00. Do NOT get into any more unholy deals with AMP. Get out of every deal we can with them. (Fire them as much as possible), fire McMahon, and get rid of Hada and his gang ASAP.
What a smoke-blowing load of garbage. They've really outdone themselves this time. Really, how many hours did it take to come up with this dog and pony show?
This isn't even the coal plant that we are in the most trouble with them (AMP) is it? Isn't there another whole horrible deal we are in with them (Meigs was it?) where we became owners of that plant, too, and owe them probably millions for that mess?

For one, I would reduce the number of federal employees. Their salaries are paid by us and they produce nothing in return.

Second, I would prevent our congressmen from voting for their own pay raises. Why not tie their pay increases or decreases to how well they can balance the budget. Get paid by how well they do their job. Might cut down on wasteful pork belly spending.

Third, require congressmen to have the same health care as the rest of us. Something we all can live with.

Forth, take the servicemen coming home as we wind down in the Middle East and secure our borders. They will still have an income and we can slowly add them to the private employment sector instead of adding a large number all at once looking for jobs.

Fifth, since we can better control ILLEGAL immigration, we will reduce the strain on local and federal social services.

Sixth, by controlling ILLEGAL immigration, we can save all the legal expenses of suing Arizona and maybe other states like Virginia.

Seventh, while we are reducing the lawsuits, let's include all the ridiculous lawsuits by the ACLU and limit the huge multi-million dollar malpractice payouts.

Eight, we need to stop protecting the civil service employees and teachers with tenure and make them produce like those of us who have to work or get fired. This will reduce federal spending and elevate the level of our schools. Get education back to a level competitive with the rest of the world.

Ninth, if someone needs to apply for unemployment extension, then you must also do some kind of community service to qualify.

Ten, we need to have a goal to rally behind. JFK said we need to put a man on the moon before the end of the decade and we did it. We had pride in our country and something we all wanted to work for.

Remember what he said.

"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you -- ask what can you do for your country."

Just another thing to add to my list is to correct the practice of double dipping. If someone retires and draws retirement pay, if he wants to come back to work at the same place or even a similar position, why not tax his retirement at 50% or limit his pay to half of what it was. This will either save money, increase Social Security payments or just plain create more job openings.

When was the last time you called tech support, or a charge card company, or a TV dish provider,(the list goes on) and spoke to an American? When was the last time you flipped a clothing goods tag and it said "made in the USA?" Too many jobs have gone overseas. I'm not placing blame on any particular political party - just saying that's how it seems to me. I don't have a solution. I don't have any answers. I'm still trying to figure out this AMP Ohio stuff. But citizens engaging with their local government is a good thing. This blog is a good thing. Freedom of the press is a good thing. The tax cuts by Bush I think were to stimulate the economy following 9/11. To get people spending money again. Problem was - and is - everything we buy is made overseas so how does that put Americans to work? And in Painesville - maybe the best jobs to be had are working for either Painesville government or Lake County government.

While I am not on welfare, I am in the lowest tax bracket too. As such, I'm facing a 5% federal tax increase not to mention any increase in Ohio's taxes to pay for the extended unemployment payouts. Will still have to vote this fall for a school levy increase too. It will be said to be a replacement levy but it will increase property taxes by over $100 per $100,000 of value. I'm sure Term can give us the figure.

So, distain for the poor???? That's me too.

To 2:10.....It's been my experience that people generally are not capable of really seeing hard truths...they rationalize, excuse, and just plain ignore facts because it's too painful to do otherwise. Revising the truth or ignoring it doesn't change the truth, it just generally lets a troubling fact take on a life of its own, undisturbed by anything to make it right. I would suggest if you cannot take Term's understanding of city issues then quit reading the blog. Apparently you have made it personal so that you can skate around the real issues and blame the messenger. I have been on the receiving end of Term's bluntness on more than one occasion and although it may not be pleasant I do walk away better informed and able to move forward. Nothing will ever get solved if you continue to ignore the problem because you didn't like the person and/or the way it was told to you.
