"SYMPATHY FOR THE DEVIL" rolling stones

Took Adams advice. Although I know the Bear, I was offered a sit-down conversation over tea to get his side of this whole Millstone mess.
I will again frame this as a fractured fairy tale with the same main characters as in the past.

As I stepped into the Bear Den, I asked the Bear what the Hell was his purpose of upsetting all the rabbits, along with the Queen over blocking this settlement? Don't we have enough problems here in Oz?
He was in no hurry to answer me, only to hand me papers for me to view.
The first piece of paper that drew my interest explained the cancellation of 2,700,000 jars of honey if the rabbit dens flooded and then replacing it with 300,000jars of honey! Who-ever was in charge of the rabbit dens really screwed this one up. This is where the whole problem really begins after the 500 year flood.
The rabbits are decimated and the Queen knows it; funny, the Queen showed nowhere near as much concern for the Squirrels on Chestnut Lane, or the Chipmunks on Nelson Lane... only for the poor stupid rabbits who went along with the rabbit association to cancel flood insurance.
The Queen has an outstanding loan to the big state POOBAH that she owes over a million jars of honey to in interest. she came up with an idea to give the land to the big POOBAH in exchange for forgiving the interest on the honey. One problem... did the Queen or her Merry men look at a map to see how the parcels of land by the rabbits' dens were divided? I think not! And neither does the Bear. As it stands the Queen will give every rabbit with a den along the river 88,000 jars of honey, on something that has only a total value of 195,000 jars of honey. Do the math: 88,000times 38. So the Bear is happy because he only wants 75,000 jars of honey each for his other five parcels of land along the river. 'Nothing doing!' cried the Queen's sharks... "She already made the deal with the Grand POOBAH and now you want something from her? She will give this passive land to the POOBAH and promise to take care of it forever at no cost or revenue from the POOBAH". "So its not really a Park?" inquired the Bear. "What about my parcels?" asked the Bear. "Take it up with the Grand Owl, let him decide." she said. "Ok," answered the Bear, "I'm in no hurry."
The Queen inquired "What would you do with the river land?" "Rebuilt the rabbit dens and sell these homes back to rabbits" he answered. "That's crazy!" shouted the Queen, "We could have another 500 year flood tomorrow!" "Yes," he said, "Or we could wait 496 more years. And so your bright idea is to build homes in a Marsh Swamp along with thinking that rabbits want to live on the old Rabbit mending and birthing home in your nonexistent commerce center? And by the way, how much did that new rabbit field across the River where the rabbits play cost? Isn't anyone concerned about that flooding?" The Bear then asked the Queen "How can you sell something to the Great POOBAH that you dont even own? Along with telling your subjects that no local honey will be used when right here is a paper stating that your Kingdom will provide 286,743 jars of honey?"

Did your subjects know about a picnic on Sunday August 15, 2010 where you passed out a "Statement of Fair Compensation" was passed out? The Bear wonders when his Statement of Fair Compensation will arrive?

I asked the Bear how long all this would take? His answer: "The horses haven't even left the barn yet..." I mentioned he wasn't getting any younger.... to which he replied "I'm going to live at least another forty years...it will take me that long to upset everybody I want to". I then asked him about his mortality...if he had any concerns about going to
Heaven or Hell....he said he had thought that through and has decided to go to neither...but he will pay off the elevator operator so he can decide where we will go. With this logic I believe all the rabbits in town will be paying him the honey that the Queen has conveniently left off the table.

Won't read this in the Newsless-Herald.

Knowing Bob Gibbs the way I do. No one in this town could ever insult or embaress him.
The other people wanting to purchase the land along with Robert should have to show the Judge the financing of the $195,000
To some of them its just a ruse, and the Judge might make them show their hand.

The truth, did you make this story up, or did you really interview Gibbs?

Didn't make it up. Gibbs and I talked for over 2 hours Thursday evening.
Went to the BZA meeting at 7:30 theres another story talk about. Deja Vu. Will fill you in soon.

The problem with the News-Herald is they won't or don't want to take the time to look into all these stories for the simple reason their in bed with all government bodies and don't want to rock the boat, they print what they are told. Why is it here I am learning the homeowners cancelled their flood insurance? For that matter why am I getting more information here then the regular sources?

Gibbs is a terrible man. Why you would even think to sit and listen to his lies for two hours is unbelieveable.

At August 21, 2010 at 5:45 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

What lies did he tell me? That there was proper flood insurance on the property at one time? That Painesville is trying to aquire something they don't own without him getting compensation?
In our conversation he mentioned many facts that have yet come out.
Its seems we will be looking at the mess for sometime coming. How long will the Feds and State hold that money. Painesvilles administration can be lauded for trying to help these people but why would they tie up interest money they owe the state on a sewer plant to people down there just wanting to move on?
Why has the city not offered Gibbs compensation on the five parcels of land he owns? They can't really turn what they have to the state surrounded by land they don't own? Or can they?
Transactions like this shouldn't take this long. Does every area that gets flooded get turn into a nature perserve?

It would have been nice to turn it into a park that people would have enjoyed (when it wasn't under water) but a nature preserve makes better sense than more 'stupid rabbit' dwellings. This was not thought out well by the city administration and is totally inconsistant with her apparent goal of adding to the city's tax base. What would have happened had the city not gotten involved? A good chance that area would have been developed again (a very bad idea) but it would have been over by now and those people could have moved on long ago. Now for some wishful thinking....she would have made the deal with the state that would have allowed that whole area to be tied into Rec park and the river...maybe a small public marina and a walking bridge over the river. I see that Lake Metroparks owns property across the street...too bad they (or the state Dept. of Natural Resources) weren't asked to get involved...they are the experts in things like this. Here's another thought...maybe Gibbs will end up with all the property (after an auction) and turn it into a park named after himself. Bottom line: Bad deal, Rita. Ill-conceived and non-executable.

Term " Does every area that gets flooded get turn into a nature preserve"?

No, but you do not build homes in an area that floods. Bob Gibbs did!

REW & 11:56 Now two more experts on what and where you can or should build. Millstone is in a flood zone but what about those other homes and the bus garage. After the flood they seemed pretty much under water. Where is their relief? Also some of the homes torn down at Gristmill weren't in the flood plain? What a hodge podge of this but not that.
Get Mr. Zareba infront of a priest and ask him would you rather develope the hospital property or down where Millstone is down on the river. You just might be surprised.
Another question to ask if those homes were built in the early 80's just what asbestos were they still using in construction then?
I will agree on one premise with REW if Painesvilles greedy administration, wasn't staying up at night figuring how to get out of paying back a loan and using homeowners in Millstone as "pawns" everyone would have moved on by now.
AGAIN please don't think I believe the Bear is a Saint, but at least get all the facts out there.

How much did Gibbs pay you to print all these lies. I lived at Millstone there was never any 3 million dollar insurance. Gibbs just loves to watch people suffer and you will ride the elevator with him until he kicks you out in Hell for lying!

Anyone ever been to Garrettsville? ...they have a beautiful boardwalk along the river/creek that runs thru town...

At August 21, 2010 at 2:38 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Term, Millstone was in a flood zone and those other homes and the bus garage had a history of flooding. And, what about the dam? Who took the out the dam, without any permission from anyone?

At August 21, 2010 at 4:21 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

The Dam? Who owned the Dam? Ask fishermen what happened after the dam was gone? Go to the Auditors office and look at property records? How was Gibbs allowed to put that cement levie for 1100 feet along the river?
The question should be who owns all this property? Who owns the land on the opposite side of the river where the old mill was?
Again, the other homes along with the old bus garage, why were they not included?

Term, You are asking many questions that need answered? Since, you are the town crier, I'm looking forward to your research to find out the answers. You seem to have the time to go to all the meetings and meet with the person (Bob Gibbs) how about asking him.

10:18 I have seen enough answers to reach an opinion. Lets just say there is more then one devil.
Millstone people need to get there FEMA money and move on.
There will be no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow.
The city doesn't even know if they could bid on the land with the FEMA money.
Millstone resident want to blame someone blame who ever canceled the orginal flood onsurance policy ithat person or person is the reason you are where you are today not Gibbs.
Not the town crier only someone who ses"s that only one side of a story is getting out. Why?

To 8:50, I will choose my words carefully because, even though I may sometimes disagree with Term, I enjoy the blog quite a bit.

I also must applaud Term's creativity in turning his meeting with Gibbs into a fairy tale.

That being said......

1. If Gibbs' fairy tale truly has any kernels of truth to it, it seems to me that [if I was in the same situation] he [or I] would go more public with it and be more proactive about getting what he feels to be his fair share. He didn't seem to have any interest in that: http://news-herald.com/articles/2010/04/14/news/doc4bc4aa257cdc6688666335.txt

2. I'm not sure which idea I find crazier: that Gibbs wants to build in that area; or that in the future, someone will look at whatever is (or might) be built, and say "Yes, I will live there! Awesome! Who cares about floodplains?"

3. Looking at Gibbs' track record with properties in the Painesville area, that anyone would take a chance on him or his properties is rather puzzling to me. The mansion on SR-84 near Liberty Street...the dilapidated area over on North Ridge/Mantle Roads, do you know what I mean? The guy's properties don't exactly inspire confidence, you know what I mean?

Of course this is just one man's opinion.

Term, I don't mean to offend, especially if Bob is a friend of yours. Please understand that I can only base my comments on what I know of the involved parties.

If you would like to discuss further, you should still have my email address. Or I'll buy you a beer at the Depot.

At August 23, 2010 at 4:21 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Adam, You don't come even close to offending me. Up until the flood I had never crossed paths with Bob Gibbs.
My purpose of this story was mainly twofold. One someone at sometime dropped the ball on the flood insurance at Millstone. Along with the citys involvement. I was also under the impression the land would become part of the Park. No a perserve given to the State of Ohio with the agreement we would be resposible for it forever. I will take you up on that Beer, if I see a Maurder I will stop.

If you're Marauder hunting and thirsty for a beer, your better bet would be Nemeth's. I usually drive my other car to the Depot, due to the dirt/gravel parking lot.

Wanted to say how great it was of the woman who spoke out against the inspector (Noel?) at the last council meeting. Also was very good of councilman Flock to speak out loud and clear and give her permission to speak until she was done. I hope she gets some relief with the suggestions that were offered her. I thought it was bad of McMahon to just talk to council, and also the tone of her comments. She also should have kindly talked to the woman to make sure she knew that she had options of addressing the problem short of having to show up in court hopefully. The woman had obviously been put through the ringer by the city. I also agree with her that the fact that the inspector lied about who she was and why she was on her property raises serious questions. I don't for one minute think those issues will be dealt with, however, because they never are.

Thanks Term for speaking clearly about the AMP problem and the problem of McMahon giving us false information about the cost of one of the bad AMP deals.

What is the deal about the garages anyway? Are they making everyone have a garage or what? Can someone fill me in on this?

And while people are talking about charter changes. Maybe this would be a good time to start thinking about a petition to change the charter so we can get McMahon out. Any suggestions?

Gibbs,
knocked the dam down in the middle of the night, so he could build his apts., the wall he built along the river filled up with water in 2006 flooding the whole area.
Does anyone remember how gibbs put a dozer under the bridge to stop the state from knocking it down, and how about the dozer he stole from someone, and the sewers he ran to the river on N.Ridge Rd, this guy is some piece of work.

Just to let you know how he is, he is doing this to Millstone just for the fun of it, he knows the city and state will never let him re-build down there

What,Term,Adam along with the rest of you don't seem to understand is that Gibb's doesn't give a $%#&! what you think of him, along with the fact that if he's done all these things why ain't he in prison? Pay the man or leave him alone!

The courts have prohibited foreclosure proceedings or any other transfers on these properties. The city would not issue building permits for these properties after the flood. Where does that leave the Millstone homeowners? They can't fix the property, they can't sell the property, they can't give the property away, they can't get rid of it in Bankruptcy and they're not even allowed to go down there without a police escort. Everybody is being led to believe that Gibbs is holding this process up, but it is City and the court that are holding these people hostage.
