"PINK HOUSES" john mellencamp

"Got an interstate runnin' through his backyard...."
Brookside Reserve Subdivision.
Guaranteed to come up at this weeks council meeting.
Now, as a resident of Painesville I'd like to know a few answers to questions that I hope some council people will bring up up Monday night.
Was this subdivision on the "master plan" for Shamrock Business Center? The city spent a lot of money on that plan.
135 homes on 29 acres of land, are streets, sidewalks, treelawns included in the 29 acres?
Again, this location is called Shamrock Business Center. Wheres the business? All I see is a lot of monkey business having to do with apartment and home developers.
Who will be the main contractor and builder?
Has anyone seen a floor plan for these homes?
Who will pay to have all the utilities buried in the ground?
Whats the dimensions of the average front and backyard?
Are basements an option? With multi sump pumps?
"Hopefully" the bridge will be built over the railroad track, what if we lose out on the hope and it limits access in and out of Brookside Reserve? "Brookside Reserve" isn't that the name of a cheap wiskey?
If the bridge doesn't materialize before these homes are occupied, where will all the traffic go....Diamond Center Drive?(which I might add is already pretty congested).
Will there be a solution to the safety issues (fire,EMS) before these people move in? Or will they just be promised a solution sometime in the future? [If the levy passes]
Will the backyards of some of these homes abut the CSX Railroad tracks right where the derailment happened a few years ago, like the picture in the city managers office?
Who presently owns this property? How will it be sold?
Is the Army Corps of Engineers going to have any say in this?
Has anyone discussed this with the Riverside school district? Has the impact on that district been considered and planned for?
Has there been a financial study done to see what the cost in services would be to the city? Has anyone considered how much revenue can be realistically expected and is it worth it?
Just to understand the location: this subdivision will have the CSX tracks to the south, Rt.44 to the east, and Cobblestone to the west with marsh to the north
Along with Lubrizol on the other side of the freeway.
What kind of purchase price are we looking for on these homes?
A hint to our leaders:as we all get older, quality becomes paramount to quantity. Something a 200 year old city should know something about.

More Questions:
Why...oh why...would anyone even consider building ANOTHER development on marshland when recent events have already proven what a bad idea it is? That water would have to go somewhere.Sounds like a short-term profit for developers and long-term headache for homeowners and the city.
And is that why the city wants a new fire station on Jackson St...as a selling point and to answer critics of that development on any safety issues? (and won't the city have to buy back property it sold in 2004 to build a fire station there?)(and guess who owns that property today...)
I agree with Term...more is not better. Is it too much to ask that we get some RESPONSIBLE planning here?

Where were all the stores planned for that area? COSCO, Golden Corral, Heinens, plus smaller enterprises like, Sonic, or Rallys.
The city manager is just to lazy to get off her butt and promote businesses.
Show us another plan.

135 Townhouses on this site, more homes in Heisley Park? All the new homes on the property that the hospital left.
Do any of our administrators read the paper, or watch the news? Housing dead and will stay dead for aleast 5 more years.
Something strange is going on here if they can change the PUD for this maybe they can change it again in a year?

Just so everyone knows
Brookstide Reserve is a very cheap "diluted" wiskey.
Dilued just as this neighborhood will be. Its a swamp!

For you term, how perfect an analogy

I bought a bird feeder. I hung
It on my back porch and filled
It with seed. What a beauty of
A bird feeder it was, as I filled it
lovingly with seed. Within a
Week we had hundreds of birds
Taking advantage of the
Continuous flow of free and
Easily accessible food.

But then the birds started
Building nests in the boards
Of the patio, above the table,
And next to the barbecue.

Then came the poop. It was
Everywhere: on the patio tile,
The chairs, the table ..
Everywhere!

Then some of the birds
Turned mean. They would
Dive bomb me and try to
Peck me even though I had
Fed them out of my own
Pocket.

And others birds were
Boisterous and loud. They
Sat on the feeder and
Squawked and screamed at
All hours of the day and night
And demanded that I fill it
When it got low on food.

After a while, I couldn't even
Sit on my own back porch
Anymore. So I took down the
Bird feeder and in three days
The birds were gone. I cleaned
Up their mess and took down
The many nests they had built
All over the patio.

Soon, the back yard was like
It used to be .... Quiet, serene....
And no one demanding their
Rights to a free meal.

Now let's see.
Our government gives out
Free food, subsidized housing,
Free medical care and free
Education, and allows anyone
Born here to be an automatic
Citizen.

Then the illegal's came by the
Tens of thousands. Suddenly
Our taxes went up to pay for
Free services; small apartments
Are housing 5 families; you
Have to wait 6 hours to be seen
By an emergency room doctor;
Your child's second grade class is
Behind other schools because
Over half the class doesn't speak
English.

Corn Flakes now come in a
Bilingual box; I have to
'press one ' to hear my bank
Talk to me in English, and
People waving flags other
Than 'Old Glory' are
Squawking and screaming
In the streets, demanding
More rights and free liberties.

Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
To take down the bird feeder.

If you agree, pass it on; if not,
Just continue cleaning up the poop

To comment on 10:14's post: And if we can actually get the illegals out, there will be so much open housing in this city, it will be a problem in and of itself, without any new housing, thanks to some of our present city leaders, and Horvath and Delamotte.
To 6:40: Who owns the property now? We need to start saying things right out. Please, who owns that property now?

The city manager has answered some of these question's. They have no idea who the builder or developer is, what the houses will look likr? they just want to be able to build 135 homes with no plan. You have a problem with that?
She mentioned hopefully the bridge will be built, along with the levy passing for a closer fire statation. Why a levy instead of a bond issue? I forgot she wants that money coming in for ever.
This is a perfect example of Painesville putting the cart in front of the horse.

A question that seems to have been lost is. what was the CM refering to when she put into the proposal. The applicant will be required additional ground water documentatation prior to construction. She should be made to explain that sentence.
What economy does city hall think we're living in? Home sales have hit a wall and all she brings to the table is more homes.
A while back council approved Asper Commons, how many homes have been built there?

To 2:24...Sorry, I sure didn't mean to blow smoke...we have enough of that now. A great deal of the property on both sides of Rt 44 on Jackson St is owned by the Osborns and a lot of it was purchased from the city in 2004. Councilman Paul Hach owns a fair amount too. I found this info very easily on the Lake County Auditor's site. I don't know exactly where the city proposes to build a fire station; I DO know that is a very busy area and you still have to cross railroad tracks in any direction if you are trying to get to Tri-Point. Plus one of Painesville Township's stations is just down the street at Nye Road. And I agree with 7:17...why a levy? Bait and switch is what I call all this manuevering; tell citizens one thing and do another. And to answer another question from 7:32..there are two houses at Asper Commons. And lets not forget...the desolate (first time I saw it was in the dead of winter) little corner called Lighthouse Point located off ELm St in the city limits. ANOTHER piece of unfinished developer business. Our track record is not too good on finishing anything...we're good at tearing things down but not too bright on what to replace it with. Could this administration, FOR ONCE, think long and hard before the first nail is driven. How about listening to citizens about what they want before making any unilateral decisions. I am sooo tired of an unelected official (and the lackeys) spending our money and making decisions that we all have to live with. Can hardly wait until election time.

Another thing that needs to be looked at in this city is the fact that many things just keep getting refinanced and refinanced and never get paid off.

Please help me understand. If the bridge to Cobblestone is finished why would another station be needed in that area? (Thanks again to Flock for creating this ridiculous mess) Surely the response times would improve and then maybe the neglected for many, many years south side would be able to have better response times instead of being stopped by the TRAIN traffic that slows the FD down. Personally, I don't want services from Concurd and PTship. I pay my tax money to this city, not anyone else.

First off please explain how this is Flocks fault? If the bridge is built,"If" is a big word in this case. Along with "If" the levy for that fire station is passed. Tonight council voted to let a builder develop 135 homes next to Cobblestone that we as a city will be responsible for.
I respect your views on only wanting services from the Painesville Fire Department. I just hope you know this will cost you more money.

To 8:32: This is 2:24. Thank you so much for the information.

So there is Hach's name again.I want to say again that I would be very interested in what an investigation would turn up as far as what properties council members, etc. have bought and sold in this city for many years back.

As far as election time goes, we have to start spreading the word, in case people don't understand what is needed, to get McMahon out. We have to make sure that Hach, Hada and Fountain get out of office, so we can get McMahon out. They hired her and council needs to fire her. We have to get people in there who will do that and who will quit being her lackeys as 8:32 says -- and that's not to mention that we need to get those three out in their own right.

How many votes does it take to get her out? Does anybody know?

To 3:03...you and those you love must be in amazing health and not accident-prone. Probably bullet-proof too. Sure glad someone in this town won't need those increasingly expensive services or feels immortal enough that they aren't concerned about how long it'll take for an ambulance to show up. Maybe you even believe that Painesville should secede from the US and then apply for foreign aid. Worked for Peter Sellers ('the Mouse that Roared') I, for one, believe in doing things the most cost effective and efficient way possible. Painesville is not an island and we are by no means totally self-sufficient.
And even if that bridge is ever built...how long do you think that will take? This is a problem TODAY.

What prompted Flock to look into this? Isn't he a ward councilman with his OWN flock to tend to? Who and what residents have complained? I have a friend living there and listening to her, no one thought this was an issue.
But wben a county trustee has a relative living there, then & only then was it a problem.

This has been an issue with councilman Flock for years, look it up.
I believe what upset him the most is when Grand River Fire Department quit being first responders and one one in the administration thought it was important to let council know.

To 2:24, try researching the connection between our law director and a current and past council person.

This is 2:24. Thanks for the info 4:11. It leaves me in the dark, though. Any other light you can shed on that subject? I would love to know what you are talking about. This is the kind of thing that needs to become public knowledge now. Any extra info would be greatly appreciated.

He is upset because someone didnt tell him about GR? Are you kidding me? Who is the no one in admin. that did not let council know? How many times has he said, in public, he didnt read what he had been given or he wasnt up on a situation because he didnt read what was given to him? Cuz if he had read the entire master plan for the fire dept I believe he had he would have known of that potential situation up comming. So now its everyones fault but not his? Thats my personal thought.
Who is the no one in admin. that did not let council know?
Anyone who works knows how a chain of commands works. Departments manage and the manager manages too. What they dont do is MICROmanage. And thats what Flock is doing.

At June 12, 2010 at 5:16 PM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

If you check back the master plan for Shamrock Business Center included a fire station.
The CM stressed the importance of GR being included and when the city was informed that they no longer would except resposibility for Cobblestone the CM and the fire chief kept that information to themselves. The only way Flock found out was throgh another communitys offical.
Councilman Flock never voted yes for Cobblestone . The master plan has been changed by the city not Flock.
As far as Micro-Managing our CM would get an award for how she operates. If the city has all these "highly qualified administrators" Why does she have to run everything?

Homes along railroad tracks, freeways, and a chemical plant on the other side. What kind of fools does JiHada believe will live in this swamp?

At June 18, 2010 at 5:26 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

To 2:43: Sadly, people who buy those homes probably won't have any idea that it's the wrong land to build homes on and that the builder and the city did not protect them until it is too late.
