'THE ANSWER IS BLOWING IN THE WIND" pp&m

The most positive news to come out at Monday night's council meeting. It's still to early to decide if this is the way to go but it sure looked fruitful.
A presentation by NEXGEN ENERGY on Painesville purchasing electric power from a wind farm they propose to build in North Perry.
.079 per kilowatt. we would purchase about $400,000 Worth of electricity per year from them.
It includes a 10 year agreement with this figure and cost.
No purchase or maintenance of towers gears equipment.
No "take & pay" no investment by the city. If the windmills fail we just don't pay.
No AMP-OHIO. The city should take a careful look into this but it make 100 times more sense than the Meigs County deal.
Please some of you help me look into this. It seems to good to be true and that's what bothers me.

The fire levy being proposed will have meetings in all four wards to get peoples input before it even goes on a ballot. I believe there is a better way and our leadership must be prodded into finding a better solution. Truth is Painesville and surrounding communities can't all afford stations on every corner along with $900,000 fire trucks.
On a final; note I brought up the Painesville Magazine, you would have thought I walked into the Vatican and raised the Bible over my head and claimed this is all B.S.
The looks and comments, councilman Fountain called it a great piece of "Literature?"
Problem is most of the people sitting at that front table really are sincere. I must be driving down the wrong streets at the wrong time.

It's a very nice promotional, and it's very well done. This is a bargain at about $3,500. And you aren't driving down the wrong streets - you are looking through the wrong eyes. We'll take a ride someday through town and around. There is beauty everywhere. You just have to open your eyes to it.Painesville, the old girl that she is, may need some fixing in places but she's still a beautiful old girl!

I think it's fantastic that they are going to have meetings with the residents before anything goes on the ballot. Seems to me, though, that a meeting for the whole city, instead of dividing it by wards would be the better way to go. Makes a whole lot more sense.

Watched the council meeting tonight. What was JaHada complaining about? He just goes on and on.
Thanks for telling council what you think of there fire levy.
The only solution this city ever has to our problems is to spend more of our money.
That Painesville Magazine is not Literature to more on the lines of a comic book.
Kathy sorry your living in the past.

As I watched council members tell us what a great piece of literature Painesville Magazine was. I decided to send Veronica Dahlberg at HOLA my copy and see what her take on it was?
Someone should send a copy to the NAACP to see what they think.
This is a joke right?

Kathy...I agree that Painesville is a beautiful old gal with a lot going for her...but even grand old ladies can be taken advantage of...and as far as that magazine..I agree again with you that it was well done..but what was the point of it? The spin doctors under the Golden Dome would do better to work on meaningful change in a fiscally responsible manner that is responsive to the needs of her citizens. I don't always agree with TERM..but in this case he's not looking in the wrong places..but rather looking under the skin...and I believe what he's seeing isn't too healthy.

6:22 I think they're breaking it down into smaller groups so everyone will have a chance to comment or question. This way there are more opportunities for people to find the time to participate. Maybe they could have one large meeting after all the small ones have met. I'm glad the city is using this approach, lets just hope that people actually show up for this process instead of wringing their hands in dismay after a deal is done.

Term, if you catch wind of when/where the levy meetings will be held in each ward, you will post them, right?

I think those of you who wanted the magazine to specifically point out our diversity have it all wrong.

A truly diverse city should not feel the need to point out the racial differences between our citizens. All of us are Painesville citizens and does it really matter who is black, white, or hispanic?

Did you ever watch a diverse group of young children play?, they have no clue of racial differences other than looks, they still chase each other, kick balls to each other, etc. it is adults that teach each generation that we supposedly have differences.

Term, at work do you refer to people as white truck drivers, black truck drivers, hispanic truck drivers?, I'll bet not, you judge each one by how good of a truck driver they are. So why are we so insistent that the city should point out in a magazine that our citizens and business people are different racial make ups?

At May 19, 2010 at 9:27 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

No but if there are 20% black drivers and the company put out an advertisment showing only white drivers I would ask why?
It seems that when diversity suits our purpose we're out front with it.
Now if you lived in Iowa would you think that Painesvilles population was as mostly white viewing that magazine? We are what we are.

You guys are so funny! It's an overhead shot, taken perhaps 30 feet from the crowd, at the farmers market. And you can't tell in the photo who is white, who is black, who is hispanic, and who is other. Okay here's an easy one - most of you know me or have met me - am I white, black, hispanic, a mix of any two or three, or other? True diversity - when no one seems to notice.

I see the News-Herald decided to let the rest of the people know what plans there are for the Wind Farm.

Back to another story under that story was about Painesville applying for 3.5 million in a grant for Ohio Jobs Ready site program. This is for the bridge over the CSX railroad tracks to connect the road to nowhere to Brookside Rd.
The use of "tax increment financing" authororized by council should make up the remaining 2.4 million of Construction costs.
Now all of you out there please explain what a "tax increment financing" proposal is?

Kathy, have your eyes checked. I see one Black lady sitting by herself a a table. See what you wish I know what I see and that is NOT a true representation of our town. Not one mention of the large Hispanic or Black community. Along with not acknowledging the contributions the groups have made.
At least the advertisement that the Painesville Schools had was at least honest.
Thats not the farmers market; that picture showed five white people.[pg8] The cover was taken at "Taste of Painesville."
Does your diversity ignore the culturural differences?
I at least tend to respect and embrace the differences.
There's nothing funny to me about our administration promoting something that isn't real.

I still think Murphy (and Flock and Werner) need to talk to all the other entities around here to see what they are thinking, what they need, and if we should be thinking of something together with one or more of them. Or maybe it should be one big meeting, not divided by wards, with all the other city leaders involved, too. That would really be the best way for us to see what is and is not possible, and the flow of information should be great and complete, wouldn't it?

I bet no one in the administration noticed. Just thought it was a really nice picture - which it is - but I get your point. You're right in that respect. It does not reflect what Painesville really is - but it's a nice picture. Maybe a picture from the beer tent during Party in the Park would have been a better choice.

Okay, so it sounds like we finally have a possible LEGITIMATE green energy project. Can we go back now and get out of our PRETEND landfill deal with AMP-Ohio that we recently got into that will power one house a day and cost us thousands?

This is 6:21. Just to clarify my post. I think we need to have the leaders from the other cities in on a meeting with our whole city (all the wards) together. Have them in a semi-round setting in the front of the room, so they can see and converse with each other easily, and also see all of us, who will be able to ask questions after they have all talked to us and talked with each other about what they are thinking, and what are each of the entities needs. Lets just do it up right and as completely as possible. It may take more than one of these, but that would certainly get it off to a huge, informative, fantastic exchange of information way. Why do this in any piecemeal way when we can just gather everyone together and start accomplishing great things?

As far as that magazine the overview of future Painesville was to my way of thinking cluttered, and jammed together. That is not the way I hope we end up?

At May 20, 2010 at 5:59 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I do think we need the whole city and all the leaders of the other cities in on these safety meetings. I don't think we can trust what McMahon and Hada, etc. say and do. We really need all-inclusive meetings with the citizens there, too. They've had years to prove we can't trust them to handle this without us.

At May 20, 2010 at 10:21 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

This is 5:59 adding to my post. I just finally got to watch a little of the council meeting on TV. Cimaglio said that Fodor wanted meetings with the surrounding entities about the safety issue. Let's hope he perseveres and gets this accomplished. We need this to happen, with the citizens also there, so we finally actually know what is going on.

It would be great if these meetings were WELL-advertised and scheduled at convenient times so people will actually know about them in advance and they wouldn't conflict with other things...(like school board meetings about their proposed levy) Lets hope the city handles this right; they have a slight credibility problem ever since they tried to sneak that charter amendment through a few years ago. (Thank you Mr. Torre, for reminding them how that turned out...listen to his comment at the last council meeting). We need some creative and couragous leadership here and if our CM isn't up to it then our elected council people have to step up.

6:16 Slim chance if Michael will be asked, you must either be an employee or former employee of the city along with somehow connected to the city schools. I don't know Michael but I agree 100% with him.
Here is the letter that was sent to the News-Herald:

NOT THE RIGHT TIME

This could not be a worse time for the City of Painesville to ask its citizens to pony up and build a new fire station. Why didn't the safety committee discuss regionalizing the Painesville fire department with other departments? Every other industry is consolidating, merging, and combining their resources. Only our government refuses to consider these money saving actions.
If city council wants to provide bold leadership rather than the same old government throw-money-at-the-solution approach, it should formally propose creating a regionalized fire district. Of course the fire chiefs, and most mayors, managers etc., will say no, but why not start the conversation? Put the onus on our neighboring governments to say "no." That would be real leadership. Regionalizing government services is not just for big metropolitan areas. It should be done in Lake County too.

City of Painesville hires Colorado's NexGen Energy to install wind turbines

By CHUCK SODER

11:30 am, May 26, 2010

The city of Painesville has agreed to hire a Colorado-based company to install six to eight wind turbines on multiple sites in the village of North Perry, which is served by Painesville Municipal Electric.

The turbines would be able to generate up to 3.2 megawatts of power, which would be enough energy to power 439 homes, according to a news release from the developer, NexGen Energy Partners LLC of Boulder, Colo.

NexGen Energy would sell the power to the municipal electric utility at a fixed rate for 10 years. The company expects the turbines to be generating power by the end of the year.
