"COUNCIL MEETING 06/21/10

Well tomorrow's nights council meeting starts at 7:15 for a public hearing on the 2011 budget. Wonder if anyone has any idea's this is your chance.
The first three items on the agenda deals with the re-issuance of loans the city has taken out in the past, sewer camera, water improvement, Shamrock Boulevard. [the road to nowhere]
Wonder if any councilperson will ask what has been the cost of interest payment the city has made on these projects and what percentage of the general fund does it cost us?
Another item the city wants council to repeal an ordinance that was approved a little over three months ago?
Prepare a new tax budget for 2011?
A resolution designating depositories? lets just send all our money to AMP-OHIO their going to get most of It anyway.
Heisley Park approval for phase 14 and 15. What happened to phase 13? Don't want to press there luck?
Wonder if someone will suggest "ONE" council meeting for July and August? The city's in tip top shape and I enjoy council meeting that last until 11:00 pm. Legislation that must be passed at this one meeting or the citizens of Painesille will suffer.
On a positive note Party in the Park is less than a month away.
Andy Flocks picnic at Rec. Park is this Thursday. Hot Dogs and soft drinks will be provided. come and enjoy the company of others and feel free to bring a side dish.

***********************************************************************************

Nothing earth shattering at the council meeting. Everything passed, along with the finance director showing us a $700,000 shortfall for 2011, Council President Hada mentioned this is just a rough outline, not to worry.
At the last meeting the city manager claimed the CSX railroad runs about 30 to 35 trains a day thru Painesville and councilman Flock along with others thought that number seemed light. Well he checked with the railroad along with the PUCO the number is closer to 90 sorry CM not even close. One of the reasons everyone should trust but verify when this person makes any statement.

I found out a year or so ago that a loan that had been taken out on the Water Polution Control Plant many years ago has still never been paid off. Things just get refinanced and refinanced and refinanced. It would be curious to see the dates of when some of these loans originated. With McMahon, Hada, etc. this would probably be a near-to-impossible task -- you know how they keep things from everyone -- but it would be a very interesting thing to know.

The immigration debate rages on.

Voters in the eastern Nebraska city of Fremont will decide Monday whether to prohibit residents from hiring or renting property to illegal immigrants.

The vote comes after a two-year battle in which proponents, angered by a recent increase in Hispanic workers at local meatpacking plants, collected enough signatures to put the question on the ballot.

Supporters of the bill say it’s essential to protect jobs, health care and education for locals. Critics say the law could lead to discrimination and racial profiling.

The measure follows the highly controversial immigration law passed in Arizona, which requires police to question people about their immigration status if there is “reasonable suspicion” they are in the country illegally.

Clint Walraven, a life-long Fremont resident in this city of about 25,000, said jobs should go to unemployed legal residents.

“It has nothing to do with being racist,” said Walraven, 51. “We all have to play by the same rules … If you want to stay here, get legal.”

If passed, the law would require potential renters to apply for a license to rent. Fremont officials would check to see if the renters are legal residents of the U.S. If they are found to be illegal, they would be banned from renting. In addition, businesses would use a federal database to verify employees are allowed to work.

The number of Hispanics living in Fremont has surged from about 165 in 1990 to 1,085 in 2000, according to census expert David Drozd at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He estimated more than 2,000 Hispanics lived in the Fremont last year.

The Fremont Tribune has reported several cases of legal Hispanic residents being told to return to Mexico, including a woman in a grocery store who was pushed and yelled at by an elderly white man.

The Nebraska chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union said it would sue the city if the bill passes. The city has expressed concern about the expense of defending the policy, which could cost $1 million per year.

When I first moved to Painesville years ago, I liked the Mexicans. I like their food, our neighbors are nice, and I thought the 'diversity' was a good thing. I don't feel that way anymore. There are simply TOO MANY of them (and I've grown to feel that they can't possibly ALL be legal) and they are not assimilating - they aren't learning English, they aren't respecting their neighbors, they bring their culture with them instead of embracing ours. And I'm tired of it. It's getting worse every day. I'm sick of the music and the screaming children. I'm sick of being delayed in the street because of their need to play "musical cars" every time one of the members of the household needs to leave. Enough is enough. There's a vacant house on the corner near my house and I'm terrified of Mexicans moving in. A Mexican couple just bought a house across the street, whose previous owners have FINALLY escaped to a nicer place. (Wish I could follow) I am just hoping and praying that they won't move 20 people in with them, and that they'll be QUIET.

It's not a "racist" thing. It's a CULTURAL thing. If they want to live here, fine - come legally, learn English, and show some respect for the people into whose neighborhoods you're moving. Perhaps VD ought to invest some time into teaching "her people" how to be good neighbors.

Did you see the movie Gran Torino? The old lady asked her family members why that old white guy still lived here? Hasn't he noticed the neighborhood had changed?
Sorta what happened to Painesville how many of the Hispanic community even want any thing to with the rest of us here in town. All I ever hear is how great Mexico is, well Jose what bring you here if its so great there?
That city in Nebraska has the right idea and people who want to at least standup for sonmething.
Today a friend told me she received a call for an Hispanic man in California asking for a donation along with a phone call to our Senators for more rights for illegals? Where is that money coming from to run a phone bank?
I'll call them with a promise to never vote for enyone R or D that supports amnesty.

Well said 9:17

Same goes for my neighborhood. I respect my neighbors property and try not to take anything away from their quality of life. In other words, my life style doesn't interfere with their privacy or their safety. I don't bring drugs or criminals to the neighborhood. I don't park cars all over the place and my kids don't roam the neighborhood at all hours and leave trash all over the place.

Add that to all the other problems from these people's lack of respect for our rights and the demands for their own rights with little concern about obeying our laws, Painesville is headed to another barrio. They ran down their own barrio and now are starting to do the same here.

The fact that the ILLEGALS break the law when they come here and only add to the over crowding of housing in the city is only the tip of the problem. Working and living under the radar only stresses our community services and leads to more and more of these cultural clashes. Look at the number of fights between the different groups now. It will only get worse as temperatures rise tempers flare as the summer goes on.

Wonder why the complaints about the Arizona law (basically the same as Federal Law anyway) is being made by HOLA? Maybe they just know how many are truly here ILLEGALLY. Since you must produce a birth certificate, SSN and proof of residence, no wonder the number of Hispanics without a drivers license is increasing in our courts. Check for yourself. They can't get a license because they can't show proof they are here legally.

In today's economy, we just can't keep supporting these people who live under the radar. Forget saying they only take jobs Americans don't want. It is far more than nurseries and landscaping. It goes from restaurants to construction to where ever. Think this doesn't cost us anything. We are required to educate the kids too. With budget cuts and lay offs in our schools, we all lose. How about the propose 6.5 mil levy for the schools? More costs to the over burdened or laid off of our city.

Hal a union rep and a city council member. Will he support Rita, Joe, the average Painesville citizen or Jose ILLEGAL.

Immigration reform is being LEGAL and FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE and has nothing to do with race.

Anyone who tries to make it a racial issue is themselves a racist.

Senators Challenge Pres. Obama on Rumors of Executive Order Amnesty
Monday, June 21, 2010

Several Senators have learned of a possible plan by the Obama Administration that would provide a mass Amnesty for the nation's 11-18 million illegal aliens. Led by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), eight Senators addressed a letter to the President asking for answers to questions about a plan that would allow DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano to provide an amnesty if they can't secure enough votes for a bill in the Senate.
The letter that was sent to Pres. Obama earlier today asks the President for clarification on the use of deferred action or parole for illegal aliens. The executive actions are typically used in special cases and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, but if 60 votes can't be secured in the Senate to pass a mass Amnesty, the Administration may use the discretionary actions as an alternative.

Here is the text of the letter:

Dear President Obama:
We understand that theres a push for your Administration to develop a plan to unilaterally extend either deferred action or parole to millions of illegal aliens in the United States. We understand that the Administration may include aliens who have willfully overstayed their visas or filed for benefits knowing that they will not be eligible for a status for years to come. We understand that deferred action and parole are discretionary actions reserved for individual cases that present unusual, emergent or humanitarian circumstances. Deferred action and parole were not intended to be used to confer a status or offer protection to large groups of illegal aliens, even if the agency claims that they look at each case on a case-by-case basis.
While we agree our immigration laws need to be fixed, we are deeply concerned about the potential expansion of deferred action or parole for a large illegal alien population. While deferred action and parole are Executive Branch authorities, they should not be used to circumvent Congress constitutional authority to legislate immigration policy, particularly as it relates to the illegal population in the United States.
The Administration would be wise to abandon any plans for deferred action or parole for the illegal population. Such a move would further erode the American publics confidence in the federal government and its commitment to securing the borders and enforcing the laws already on the books.
We would appreciate receiving a commitment that the Administration has no plans to use either authority to change the current position of a large group of illegal aliens already in the United States, and ask that you respond to us about this matter as soon as possible.

Call your senator and tell them we do not want this backdoor amnesty!!

4:56 As a Democrat nothing would make me want this or any other President impeached if this was ever tried.
This is the kind of stuff that will lead to the end of this country.
I will e-mail my Senators and explain that they don't even think about it.
Something tells me this is the White House sending up a trial ballon to see what the people think about this idea?
Everytime I think that maybe I should be in the GOP party because alot of my ideas are more inline with that party, some clown like this Barton guy who apologizes to BP because of the "shakedown" the Obama administration hit them with. I think well at least I know who the Dems clowns are.Do I really need to learn new ones?

Term,
Your buddy Flock is wrong, he did not contact CSX, if he did they would not have told him around 90 trains a day, I live right next to CSX and there are not 3 trains per hour going by my house, at the most 40 trains per day.

LOL - Funny that the 2011 shortfall is $700,000. That is the same dollar amount of the "clerical" error the school treasurer made which help to contribute to the recent lay offs.

12:06 You must be right! There are NO trains going thru Painesville. No illegal residents, show them to me. There are no homes with 20 people living in them. absolutely no drugs, or crimes of any kind.
Show us your facts.
$700,000 clerical error lets not go down that track again 7:30.

12:06 Must have missed your point. The city administration has no clue of any of the numbers that have to do with Painesville, trains, illegals, drugs, homeless. unemployed. The only numbers this citys administration seems to be concerned with is the numbers on their pay checks every two weeks the rest of it doesn't seem to matter to them.

I caught the last minute of a news story last night that said that the president of Mexico has filed a lawsuit against the Arizona law. I didn't catch which country he filed it in -- must be ours, though. Did anyone hear this besides me? Thank God Americans are finally starting to fight these people.

I think the statement was the Mexican government is ready to join in the lawsuit against Arizona.

God Term,
All I said was at the most 40 trains, far cry from 90, and not far from 35, so I think your remark was un-called for, I live right next to the CSX tracks, I know, and if you want facts sit by the tracks and count them, thanks for putting me down for putting a comment on your blog, you are always right so I will not do it again.

Were there ever any arrests concerning the Latinos that beat up the Marine? Does anybody know? Or is that just another thing quietly swept under the rug in this city?

What I think what Flock was trying to say at Mondays meeting is this.. that it is important for the city to build that bridge across the RXR tracks so the saftey forces can get to that annex property faster.. He is supporting Rita on her efforts to get the darn thing built by saying "there is too many trains to have a standerd RXR crossing!" Thanks Andy for sidding with Rita on this one... and with the new bridge ...No Horns blowing..No waiting and safer pedestrian traffic crossing

7:12 My remark was uncalled for? You all but called him a liar. I saw the paperwork, along with living close to those tracks also.
Your buddys wrong he did not contact CSX, and you know his how?
90 trains seems a lot closer than 35 to 40 and don't forget the economy is down presently.
That is the main artery between Chicago and the east coast. It is known as the water level route.
How about facts instead of putting my buddys down?
Oh well lost another one down to
11. on the blog.
I will try to post the email on this sight, but then if your not here whats the point?

GOOD FOR POST 1:33 BOYCOTT NAACP FOR SUPPORTING ILLEGAL'S don't BUY ANY TICKET'S for there annual DINNER this year. a very concerned city resident.

This one leaves me puzzled. With African-American unemployment nearly double the national average. Along with illegals taking jobs from all Americans. Most importantly holding wages down. I have to wonder what the NAACP is thinking.
The most serious statement I have heard is what the Hispanics are going through now is what the African Americans were subject to. Really? I see a big difference from your culture striped from you, along with over 300 years of slavery, and you compare that to sneaking under a fence? The NAACP should be appalled.

At June 25, 2010 at 7:37 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Concerning the NAACP: This will ruffle some feathers, I am sure, but here is part of my take on the NAACP these days.

I think they are in large part responsible for the problems that plague the black communities, and therefore America.

Instead of helping and teaching and leading the black race to take their rightful place in America, they help promote reverse racism and hatred of whites. They perpetuate a "poor us" black race -- just can't get ahead with these white people always holding us down syndrome. They watch constantly for the smallest thing that they can blame on the white people, then the black leaders run to the location, get in front of the cameras, and create some big thing out of nothing. All the black people feel justified and outraged. Look what the whites are doing now.

Now they are helping the Latinos because they have color to their skin and are therefore, in their way of thinking, in need of protection against the bad white people.

White people need to start using the term "reverse racism" often and loud and try to put an end to this nonsense.

Even when those white high school kids allegedly hung a noose under that tree -- a bad thing, to say the least. I hoped when I heard it that they were just so young that they did not "get it" and that someone would teach them loud and strong about why that was not a good thing to do.

What happened, though, is that the black kids ended up severely beating up white kids. Personally, I think they were probably incited (even if it was accidentally) by THEIR parents racism. Nobody black wanted to talk about what the blacks did. They just wanted to gather and talk nationally in front of cameras about what the whites did.

I think that the NAACP's willingness to help take down America on their false pretense of having to save the poor Latinos from the bad, bad white people is reason enough for everyone to stop supporting them. And, like I said, that's even before you take into consideration that they are helping promote racism against whites in this country, which has helped cripple probably at least half of their race.

Nobody is hurting blacks more than blacks are hurting themselves and America. I have a couple of quotes from Martin Luther King Jr. on my wall, and I am sure he, and all the people who fought for black rights, including many whites, would be appalled at what the NAACP is doing today as it applies to both blacks and Latinos. I know I am.

I don't have anything better to say about the ACLU, either. Every time I hear about a cause they are taking up, it is a cause that I think has no common sense and will hurt America. You can take the small fractions of the laws so far that you take all sense out of them. That defines the ACLU in my opinion. I think they are just as dangerous as the NAACP.
