"PHIILADELPHIA FREEDOM"

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and fun 4th of July.
Enjoy your parades, picnics, and fireworks and always remember you won God's Lottery to be living on this part of his Rock. Things sometimes look bleak and problems unsolvable but somehow Americans always have figured it out in the end. I think if our President was asked if he honestly knew how to right this ship right now he would admit he's pretty much flying blind. Just as much as anyone else would be doing right now. The thing to remember is communicate with others and things can get done.

Thinking about parades are there any Painesville Cavaliers out there, how many of you remember them being part of a parade?

Here is something to think about this weekend about our founding fathers.

Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence?

Five signers were captured as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured.

Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War.

Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the opposing Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags.

Thomas McKeam was so hounded by search parties that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward.

Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton.

At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the opposing forces had taken over the Nelson home for their headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt.

Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. His wife was jailed and died within a few months.

John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife and children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart. Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates.

John Hancock lost his home and possessions when Boston burned.

Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged: "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books never told you a lot of what happened in the Revolutionary War. Some of us take these liberties too much for granted ... We shouldn't.

who are you advocating be shot? I thought the purpose was to have a peaceful transfer of power every four years. He shot them so we would not have to have that violence in the future. Why should that "tradittion" continue.

the tradition, is that young men and now women still go into harms way for our country. they kill our enemies and blow up their stuff on our behalf. it has nothing to do with the presidency and our commander in chief. i particularly dont like some presidents, but i would defend them to the utmost as well as our constitution that i am sworn to defend. you folks have a great fourth of july and if you would say a small prayer for my marine cousin and his buddies in afghanistan.

We have a War going on right here in the good old USA, and guess what they are winning.

yes, they are out of control. It is time that the citizens stand up and take action if our government, local and national, won't.

Vigilantism I don't think so, More like activism and holding public officials to their oaths and not to what they think. If you don't like the laws change them just don't ignore them.

SOUNDS VIOLENT TO ME. I can't believe you haven't disavowed these statements. Does your boy Murphy agree with them too?

"If you don't like the laws change them just don't ignore them."

Ok I agree but do yourself a favor and call your US congressman or senator. You complain people tell you their hands are tied, so you should probably address complaints to people with the power to change the laws you are concerned about. This is not a local issue.

At July 7, 2009 at 11:58 AM , Anonymous TERM>> said...

Violent to me. Sounds like alot of upset people to me. Why should I complain when people can go into a city council meeting and threaten to shoot people, and no one in leadership says anything? Things are out of control, take action could mean electing new people. I would never post hate speach but People are mad, let them vent.
Not a local issue? The number of people that can occupy a residence is a local issue, at least enforce the laws you put on the books. That would probably be a Local place to start.

At July 8, 2009 at 6:10 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

letting them vent is one thing, but here they are clearly talking about taking the law into their own hands. not cool.

I agree . Now ask yourself what has the people that run Painesville done to disfuse this problem? Ignore it. Must be something that can be done.

"Now ask yourself what has the people that run Painesville done to disfuse this problem?"

What problem? Illegal immigration? I hope they have done nothing because they can't. I'm sure they cooperate with ICE. Now if you are talking about twisting this topic and the resulting posts to the narrow topic of too many people living in one home, you are certainly not refering to the vigilante posts above but what has the city done? I dunno. You can complain and they will check it out. If they have enough evidence to file a violation I'm sure they will. If you complain and you don't see anything happening, then call and inquire as to their investigation. There is a process to these things. But again you are hijacking the discussion to try and confine it to that ordinance violation. These people are talking about vigilante justice for illegal immigration. If you don't think so, just say so, but your lack of perception will go duly noted.

Or is the problem that you endorse the actions proposed by those above?

Well your hopes are well served, They have done nothing. There is a process to these things? Yes and the process if you complain about anything the City Manager send one of her employees out to check you out, why? to shut you up. Ask the man on Parkview that complained to the city. Out they come to his house. His house numbers were to small? Hal Werner was elected to city council the last election on a platform of getting the city to do something about illegal immigration, if he does or not is yet to be seen. Explain what made people turn the incumbent out? The city has no clue how upset some people are. They turn a blind eye to this problem, because of people like you screaming racist remarks about them. Me I know right from wrong and hiding behind "my hands are tied" doesn't work. All 7 councilpeople took an oath to enforce, Federal, State, and Local laws. Most are either liars or hypocrites.
No I donot condone violence.

Term,
you mean well, but remember you only hear a small amount of what happens from your circle of friends who only want to talk about the "negative" to bring more attention to it. How about the ICE/City/County raid a year or two back that had Painesville on the front page for "targeting" Hispanics, they had to hide in St Mary's for a day to escape? The church makes a statement that they are not supporting illegals and we just leave it at that? I'll bet if we had the legal right to raid a church service and ask for ID's you could net more illegals in one day than you could in an entire year. How about the Salvation Army?, why not insist they own up to who uses the assistance they provide? Hola?, Virginia Dahl?. My point is there are groups actively assisting illegals and yet why does this small band of Painesville residents just want to attack the City? Are they truly against illegal immigration or are they using that to get to someone in the city Administration? If they are truly trying to stop illegal immigration in Painesville they are sure going about it in the wrong way. I have yet to see anyone else on this blog point out where the active "I plead ignorance" illegal assistance is coming from.

Would you rather the city was known for targeting certain ethnic groups?

I have talked to residents who told me that they have seen ICE show up at houses on their street after complaints. Since ICE hauled no one away the residents accept that everyone in that house at that time was legal.

You should remember, illegals are criminals, and are pretty good at avoiding law enforcement, just as drug dealers, thiefs, etc.

By your own statement they city was called about a problem and they came out to do something about it. Sounds like they are doign their job.

Hal werner decieved the people of painesville that he would have the authority to control a federal issue. Whatever their oath is, they cannot exceed the power of the office they hold. To do otherwise is an abuse of power. liars or hypocrites? We have seen your posts. We know it is ironic for you to be accusing anyone of that.

At July 9, 2009 at 9:21 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Ask to see the oath, why take it if you have no intention of following it. No abuse of power abuse of the law maybe. I think Term called this one right. Council is gutless!

Term you mean well, I believe and I can't speak for anyone else that I think the city administration and schools facilitate the illegal population in Painesville. They do it for simple economic realities. The schools get extra funding from the state for a large Hispanic population, and the city enjoys collecting income taxes from people with no voting rights. I have written about the Salvation Army St. Marys Church, HOLA, employers ect. It comes down to what the people that run Painesville decide they will condone.
ICE could of gone into St. Marys to go after illegals its just plain bad P.R. to do it. A church cannot be used to avoid the law.

Mary Poppins-

You have no idea how government is set up. Why do you insist that our city government has control over ICE?

At July 9, 2009 at 11:56 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

You argue about how much illegals cost our schools and government and are a burden and then you tell me that they facilitate illegal immigration because they benefit from it? You are talking out of both sides of your mouth.
This just makes it more obvious that you are trying to use this issue to get murphy elected. We do not need a repeat of Werner and we are all waiting until he is up for election to correct that mistake.

Because you make no sense I can only assume you are doing it for political reasons.

If Murphys for making this town Painesville again I'll vote for him. We need people on council with common sense. If you have 20 people living in a house and the city looks the other way thats wrong. An old lady so fedup with whats going on in her neighborhood makes a threat and the city just sits on there hands? thats very telling.

At July 10, 2009 at 2:25 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

murphy lives in this city too.don't you think that he is fed up with things that get no attention from the city adminstration? how can you, as city council members, work in this city and see all the things that need to addressed, and not do anything about them. i would be ashamed if it was me!!!!!!!!1 i would be embarassed to even sit on council every month knowing that my neighbors were being harassed, and trash was all over my yard and street. that there were 25 people living in one home, that is not only illegal, but harmful to the residents. why, why is this allowed to go on? this is some of the things mr. murphy wants to try and correct in the city. granted , he can't do this all by hisself, he will need the help of council and the residents of the city. but, isn't this what we all want? we want to take pride in the city that we live in, but i'll tell you folks right now i don,t!!!!!!!!!!! SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER? WE NEED SOME NEW BLOOD IN THIS COUNCIL.AND SOON. VOTE THIS NOV3RD. FOR JOHN MURPHY FOR COUNCIL-AT-LARGE. ETHEL
