"WHERE WAS THE STUDY"

It has been announced with the repaving of Mentor Ave. between Fern Dr. and Wood St. this stretch of road will become 3 lanes one east bound one west bound and a center turning lane. This road has been 4 lanes since before Interstate 90, RT.2 when RT.20 was the main east west road in northeastern Ohio with major truck traffic and the days of monster 59'Chevy Impalas. Who was in charge of making this decision? Was there any study done to find out how this would affect traffic through the western part of Painesville? Were any traffic engineers consulted? were business in this area asked for there input? If the road is not wide enough in some areas what would be the cost to widen it? Maybe we should do a study to do it the right way, instead of the easy way.
The city manager stated, "We made the decision." It begs to ask who was "We" were members of council, saftey officals, the citizens, businesses ever consulted?
A previous poster stated that maybe when the weather breaks in the spring we make Mentor Ave. 3 lanes to at least test this idea out.

This traffic pattern will slow traffic to a crawl and make it impossible to turn onto Mentor Ave. except at a traffic signal.
Then again with nothing left downtown maybe their won't be any traffic.

This is what we pay the City Manager for. Why must she explain her decision to you?

"This road has been 4 lanes since before Interstate 90, RT.2"

Was it really 4 lanes or just driven that way? I can't get around someone driving their stupid SUV on Mentor Ave. because the road isn't wide enough so I don't see how anyone could drive it as 4 lanes when it was a major trucking route with 59 impala's on it.

I am sure they consulted some experts here. Maybe if you had you would then understand and not be so critical. Have you emailed them a question and asked about it?

THE ONLY good thing about your post was that a test period would be a good idea. I think that even if they did switch it to a 3 it could always go back.

As long as we are all asking questions that could be answered with a little investigation but we are not willing to do it on our own...

Are there regulations by the state or county that spell out how wide a road has to be to be 4 lanes?
Maybe we have been in violation all this time and have been subject to increased danger from narrow driving room and now the city is finally fixing it.

The standard lane width in most states is 12 feet.

There is no way Rte. 20 in Painesville is a legal 4 lanes.

I seem to agree, with single file traffic it will be like a train going down Mentor Ave. during the busiest time of the day. Make the road a four lane road. If we have been in violation and increased danger all this time why haven't we fixed it before now? The same people have been in charge for to long of time it seems. No, its terms fault for bringing it up?

It is a State road, US Route 20. Why would we as a city want to pay to fix it?

People who post here have grand ideas for "fixing" stuff but I haven't heard any ideas of where the money will come from.

Who drives Rt. 20?? just take jackson st. It is much faster....

Probably the same reason we plow and salt it. As mentioned before the State is picking up 80% of the cost. The moneys there its what you spend it on that seems to be the problem.

"No, its terms fault for bringing it up?"

Term didn't bring it up. He was merely complaining about the city's choice to fix it. The city brought it up.

"It is a State road, US Route 20."

US Route? Isn't this then a federal road. Why doesn't the federal government pay for it?

"Why would we as a city want to pay to fix it?"

Because this is how it works. You fix your strectch of the state or federal route. Everyone shares the costs. Study up a little about how this stuff works and your life might be a bit happier.

How wide is Mentor Ave.? In front of the Y.M.C.A., Perkins, The College? lets get some answers.
AND ITS NOT TERMS JOB TO GET THEM !

"lets get some answers."

Do you have a tape measure?

Nobody said it was Terms job to find out.
But we are all capable of getting the answers to the questions we ask. However most people just choose to ask them here, never actually get answers, and insinuate something is amiss.

Rt 20 has managed quite well over the last many years without the government sticking it's nose in. Maybe we should see just many accidents are attributed to the width of the road. Why this insane act to move ahead?
Person above is right; Jackson is faster. Let's ask the residents on Jackson how they feel about a lot of extra traffic on their street.

If it wasn't a furry crazed animal, or a kamakasi bird, you can bet your last dollar it wasn't the citys fault.
