"WHATS FIRST TO GO?"

With the economy seeming to be getting worse, what's the first things to go? Cable or dish T.V.? The internet? Y.M.C.A. membership? The Lottery? Health insurance?
Wonder if JT. will cut down on eating out along with the rest of us? Let your thoughts and ideas be known to the rest of Painesville.

THIS SHOULD HELP OUR CITY ECONOMY.. WHEN WE OWN THE HOSPITAL KEEP A MEDICAL SERVICE AT THAT LOCATION.. this is a good service AND A HUGE MONEY MAKER.. check lake east parofit, since 1985 WHEN THEY BECAME OWNERS. this is a great OPPORTUNITY for the resident,s... city hall employee 2. [profit] sorry..

I as looking for personal things we would change. As far as the hospital Lake Hospital System will not let anyone run a hospital on that property period. great idea, but LHS greed stands in the way. Where is it written in stone that a county with the population of Lake County can only have 2 hospitals with one provider? I have a feeling when the new hospital goes in operation a lot of eastern county patients will end up at Lake West only time will prove this out.

Negative comments will not make your life better. Term doesnt like the people who run the city, its schools or its hospitals along with the hispanic community.
People like him destroy the good things everyone is trying to do.

To negative comments;
I do not disagree with all the goings on in town.
Mr. Lynch and his snow crew did "As Usual" an excellent job on the streets during this past storm. Alot of departments do an excellent job. I just have a hard time sitting by while the city spends $250,000 on swamp land by Whalers Cove, or the Fire Chief wants a "chase" vehicle when he has a Ford Crown Victoria sitting behind the station unused. I will be after the schools until they are one of the top 4 district's in the county. I agree alot of it is in the hands of the parents, maybe thats he answer. The hospital is motivated by greed , whats the hurry in tearing that building down? The County Commissioners should spend more time in whats in the best interest of the citizens of Lake County than getting out from under there deal with LHS. Hispaninic's believe me I view them as I do any other group. I just can't stand the government putting up with the "illegal issue" I would turn in an Italian, German, Greek, as fast as an Hispanic you just have to trust me on this.

The fact us when you show more concern for people who are not supposed to be here, than the people who are, you are on the road to failure, How long before Painesville has to deal with the drugs and crime like the border towns? Maybe the gangs will have better P.R. Newsless Useless-Herald

A friend of mine had chest pains, so his wife rushed him to emergency at the Painesville East Hospital. It was a false alarm, but they kept him there for 18 hours. The bill for this was almost 7 thousands dollars. How can anyone justify that cost? Health care, in time, will bankrupt our country and only the well to do will be able to afford it!

The cost of my family health plan increases 15 percent each year. It will come a time when, I will not be able to pay for it. Then what?

When people write and discuss universal health care, do they ever question the cost of what we have now? Why do the hospitals and doctors have to charge so much? My cost to see my doctor cost $140.00 that my plan pays for and $20.00 co-pay from me.

And, what about the new hospital they are building in Concord? There is nothing wrong with the present hospital in Painesville. I hear the new hospital will have half the beds.

Take a trip to Canada and talk to the people the HAVE universal health care. I have and they all say they love it!

No one wants to hold them in check. My insurance now states I pay the first $250.00 for my emergency room bill. I pay for something and have an inferior policy than people on welfare,go figure. $1000.00 deductible ect $60.00 doctor visit. I am starting to think why work?

TERM, in true fashion I will try and stay on topic here. I like most have been looking for ways to conserve over the past year and a half to be honest. I have worked out a good budget and operate on cash only, no credit other than my car, but who could otherwise right? I traded in a Chevy Tahoe for a four cylinder 35 mpg machine. $400 per/mos in gas at the height of the prices down to about $80, nice savings.

I did cut out the non-essential cable channels and considered going to cell phone only, but we like the home line to be truthful. I do limit my meal out to one a week maybe two, and we always go coupons and buy one get ones. I have cut down my entertainment budget by going to the library and getting videos instead of always renting. I kept the YMCA and use it for my major form of activity mainly. Swimming, and the HLC are my favorites. Keeps me busy and I do not feel the need to go out and drop $70 on a dinner and a movie, too tired. I just go home and watch TV for an hour and fall asleep.

Health care, pretty well roped in at work like the rest, take what I get. I do limit the amount of visits and take a more proactive outlook. I workout and take my vitamins and do all the free preventative care that is out there to hopefully stay one step ahead of father time.

Other than that I have faired pretty well and hopefully it will continue for us. JT

First there are no gangs in Painesville, this is only to reflect poorly on the Hispanic community.

There absolutely are gangs in Painesville. Why do you think we got the $75,000 grant to fight gang activity? Take a drive around town and you'll see their grafiti. We don't have to say anything to reflect poorly on the hispanic community. They do a good enough job of that themselves. It's people like you who try to whitewash it that perpetuate the problem.

At January 12, 2009 at 5:50 PM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

What has Painesville done with that grant? If they even have received it yet. Wonder if yhe News=Herald will do a story then?

WOW, an uninformed statement and very wrong. Even I know this one. There surely are gangs here. Not overly organized but look around and you see the "signs". So explain "SUR 13" to me if they don't exist. And just for argument sake, pretend I understand the translation and the location of the bario that it is named for. Not a totally ignorant American. JT.If they don't turn in illegals in this city, what do you think the chances are of them turning gang members in?

Hey Anonymous, Who do you turn illegals in to ?

There is no one you can turn illegals in to.

At January 13, 2009 at 7:36 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

The gang I run into most is not even hispanic. But we do have gangs here.

Here in Painesville they do report people whom they find to be illegal, but I am very grateful that they spend most of their time persuing people who break the law and are WITHIN THEIR JURISDICTION.

At January 13, 2009 at 7:39 AM , Blogger Big John said...

Oh, trust me I know turning people in is like cracking the holy grail, but it's also not the answer. ICE won't come out for a person turning someone in anyway. I am and have always been for people obeying the law. And the mere fact that someone claims that this is a slant against a certain culture, proves that person is out of the loop. I am normally a very fair person, but either go on uninformed or outright lie, and things change.

I do empathize with the illegal population, they are just chasing the dream that we all have the luck to have been either born into or legally obtained. I just wish that the process was either simpler to get through or streamlined to make legal citizens of those that have the right to do so. JT

This town is ripe for gang activitym first an administration that pretends eveything is fine and looks the other way,a police department not allowed to do its job, a judge that thinks Painesville is Ellis Island, county commissioners that give cards out for the asking, and to give their campaign contrubuitors cheap labor {nurserys] Set them up away from them in Painesville. Yes we are ripe!View the fences along the bike path these are not American kidds doing this.

"but I am very greateful that they spend most of their time persuing people who break the law". Well, what the heck do you think the illegals are doing every day? they are breaking our laws. they broke our laws entering this country and they are breaking it every day by staying here.

Good try but any intelligent person will get the concept of the word "and" and continue to read the complete thought. Yes illegals break the law. They are law breakers but if you continue to read on as many others have, you will see that it goes on to specify "within their jurisdiction"
It was even in caps for you and you missed it. How blind or biased are you?

"View the fences along the bike path these are not American kidds doing this."

I have. In the summers I walk the bike path near daily. Some of the stuff on the fence is hispanic and some is perfectly obvious to be of American origin. You can make it sound like only hispanic people vandalize the fences if you want but those of us who can look at reality objectively and not in a racially biased fashion know that people of both nationalities vandalize the fence.
When you post like this it leads me to believe you are willing to overlook crime so long as the perpetrator is a citizen

Please explain "within their jurisdition". A crime is a crime. An intelligent person would not make stupid arguments to protect lawbreakers. Diversity you don't have diversity you have people living together because someone allows it and this is the only place that will let this happen.
City employee but not a resident.

Hey city employee, get with it the police and city courts can not do anything to illegals, that is what the higher courts have told them.

and to say that Painesville is the only place that will let this happen, you better take a good look where you live.

City Hall Employee, go down the hallway and get an explanation to your questions before you go slamming the Police. A little "Law 101" for you.

1. There has to be a criminal complaint filed, or an on view offense. (Remember profiling is bad)

2. Jurisdiction has to be established. (In the area where the Police serve).

3. The police have to obide to many more rules and laws than the criminals.

4. After the arrest, a prosecutor has to rule on whether or not the arrest was valid and if they should proceed.

5. The judge then gets to decide whether the arrest was valid and if they should proceed.

6. Then a jury get to decide whether the offender committed the crime or not.

7. Then the judge gets to decide whether or not they go to prison or local jail or probation.

8. Then, IF they go to jail, they get to partake in the parole process and get out way before the judge said that they should under the "Mandatory sentencing guidelines".

Now when you talk FEDERAL, which is who prosecutes illegal aliens, the game totally changes and the rules get even tougher and the process is much longer.

So before you go making comments that you do not understand PLEASE I BEG YOU, ask the questions first, it will save allot of time and hurt feelings.

"Please explain "within their jurisdition"."

We have a city employee here that doesn't understand the concept of jurisdiction?
Now I have a complaint with the city. How did this person get hired?
First the argument is not stupid and second it doesn't protect law breakers, it only alludes to the proper role of each law enforcement agency.
Thank you though, Mr. anonymous/ alleged city employee. You make it easy to win arguments.

To that person above with the $7000 emergency room bill... If you do not have health insurance within a couple of weeks you will get a call from their billing department telling you if you can pay $3500. the hospital will forgive the rest. Bighearted? No insurance carrier will pay $7000. for the service you received. If you don't come up with the money they will take yu to municipal court and get the whole $7000. It happened to me.
