SPECIAL MEETING

THE CITY COUNCIL IS HOLDING A SPECIAL MEETING JUNE 23, AT 6:00P.M. THIS MEETING HAS TO DO WITH THE GRISTMILL PROPERTY AS TO WHAT'S TO BECOME OF IT. I DO NOT HAVE ALL THE INFORMATION BUT I THOUGHT IT WOULD BECOME A "PARK" BUT A CITY RESIDENT SAYS IT WILL BECOME A "PRESERVE". THERE'S A BIG DIFFERENCE, AND A MILLION DOLLARS IS AT STAKE. PLEASE FIND TIME TO FIND OUT WHATS GOING ON.

Is this meeting to find out what to do with it or is it to fix the problem, Miss Becks caused, by not allowing the easement, to go to vote ?
It does not need to be a park, it would be a waste of money, to wash down the river next time it floods.

I do not believe this has anything to do with Ms, Becks who's only concern about Grand River Ave. was the eminent domain issue.

No, she should just vote yes on everything and be done with it. What this city needs is more bobbleheads.

THE NEWS HERALD TODAY! PAINESVILLE MARCHING FORWARD WITH PLANS!!!!! WE NEED MORE INTERACTION BETWEEN THE MEMBERS OF COUNCIL AND THE CITY MGR. IT IS ALL ONE SIDED. THE COUNCIL IS NOT INFORMED OF ANY ISSUES UNTIL IT IS TOO LATE TO HAVE ANY THING DONE .WHY IS THIS? THE MOST RECENT: THE GRANT PROCESS TO ATTAIN THE FLOODED PROPERTY BY GRAND RIVER. THIS LAND IS VERY VALUABLE. ALOT OF COMMUNITIES WOULD LOVE TO HAVE LAND TO DEVELOPE BY A RIVER. TOO MANY STIPULATIONS ON THE PROCESS OF OBTAINING THE GRANTS. THE COUNCIL LEADERSHIP TOLD THE CITY MGR. TO TRY TO ATTAIN GRANTS TO PURCHASE THE FLOODED PROPERTY. SHE DID SEEK, HOWEVER THE GRANTS ARE NOT GOOD FOR THE FUTURE DEVELOPMENT OF THE LAND. AGAIN TOO MANY STIPULATIONS. THIS LAND SHOULD BE FILLED UP WITH DIRT AND DEVELOPED INTO SOMETHING WE WOULD BE PROUD TO SAY THIS IS IN OUR TOWN AND WE LOVE IT!

FOR ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LIVED IN PAINESVILLE FOR MANY YEARS, YOU KNOW WHAT WE USED TO HAVE AND WHAT WE HAVE NOW. WHICH DO YOU PREFER? PERSONALLY, I LIKE THE OLD PAINESVILLE. IT WAS A CITY YOU COULD WALK DOWN THE STREETS AND BUY MOST ANYTHING AND NOT GO 10 MILES DOING IT. WE HAD A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT STORES TO CHOOSE FROM .ALL WITHIN WALKING DISTANCE OF EACH OTHER. NOW WHAT DO WE HAVE? 1 HARDWARE STORE, 4 DRUGSTORES, 0 WOMENS SHOPS,0 MENS SHOPS, NO SHOE STORES, IN ESSENCE, WE HAVE NOTHING TO DRAW PEOPLE TO COME TO PAINESVILLE TO SHOP, BECAUSE THERE IS NOTHING HERE TO SHOP FOR. AND FOLKS ANY WAY YOU WANT TO SHAKE IT , THAT IS A SAD STATE OF AFFAIRS!!!!!

ARE YOU CRAZY, THIS FLOODING PROBLEM AND RESLOTION HAS BEEN TALKED ABOUT FOR CLOSE TO 2 (TWO) YEARS, COUNCIL HAS BEEN INFORMED ABOUT THIS MATTER, HOW DARE, MR. FLOCK, TRY TO CHANGE IT AFTER ALL THIS TIME.
GIBBS SHOULD HAVE GOT UP AND SAID HE WAS SORRY FOR BUILDING DOWN THERE.
HE KNEW IT WOULD FLOOD, THAT IS WHY THE DAM WAS KNOCKED DOWN, AND THEN HE BUILT THE WALL, DID HE NOT THINK IT WOULD FILL UP LIKE A POOL ?
PLEASE, GET THESE PEOPLE PAID SO THEY CAN GET ON WITH THERE LIVES.
AND WHAT DO THE LANDLORDS WANT MORE APARTMENTS DOWN THERE ?

The purpose of this meeting was to finally bring to light that the land will be turned into a preserve. Nothing can be done on this property now. Nothing. Why did only two people decide to basically just give this property away. One reason was given was to have a place for the flood water to go. Did Rec Park or Casement golf course prevent any flooding? No. Did the condos cause any flooding? No. Should homes have been built there? No. Who issued the building permits in the first place????? Now, all the talk of a nice park to go with Rec Park's river walk has gone up in smoke. Nothing can be done on this valuable land within walking distance of Veterans Square. Nothing. No grass, river walks, benches, nothing but vacant land. Nothing to help revitalize a dying town. Just empty land with who know what happening on it. Andy Flock wanted to know why this information was kept from the rest of council and the people until it was to late to seek other options without holding up the funds. No one tried to hold up any funds. DID THESE TWO PEOPLE KEEP THIS A SECRET ON PURPOSE??? The citizens of Painesville deserve an answer as to why you basically gave this land away. MR. Hada and Ms. McMahon, inquiring readers want to know. Well, people, how long do you think we will have to wait for our answers or since we are not permitted to talk at the meetings, will we have to do our talking at the next election.

Mr. Flock didn't try to change anything. He wanted to know why this information was kept privy until now. If in fact this has been talked about for 2 years, why didn't other members of council know about this until now? This should have come out 2 years ago so maybe another use for land could have been talked about. What happened to the park? Things this important should not be kept from council or the people of Painesville until it is too late to do anything without delaying any funding. Mr. Flock just stood up for people's right to be informed. He never tried to hold up any funding. Maybe it is time to get rid of the bobbleheads.

OR GET RID OF THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE LET POWER GO TO THEIR HEADS AND DON'T CARE ABOUT THE REST OF THE PEOPLE IN THE CITY.

They all knew what was going on, the talk of a preserve (wetlands) was talked about right from the start.

When the sewer plant manager gave his report earlier this year this was gone over completely. Rita explained it as did the sewer manger....... go back and look at the minutes. Everybody nodded their heads when this was talked about. The State of Ohio has very strict laws about wetlands. I thought they did a pretty good job explaining where the money was going to come from to revert the property back to wetland and it wasn't coming out of taxpayers pockets...... and it aint' cheap folks ask Osborne's how much they had to pay in penalties to reclaim Mentor's wetlands....... millions. Call Metroparks, you will be shocked. There is alot more that goes into reverting wetlands other than leaving the land fallow for years.

I have a problem with the houses that surround the
'wetlands". Those houses that are sitting out front on Main Street should be screaming. How in the name of fairness can you buy out all the condo's and not buy these people out?

The road up the hill is so bad I've had to have my car fixed twice. There is a lovely sinking sewer grate at the end of Casement across from the "Road Closed" sign. I would dearly love to put my house on the market but getting here is a nightmare. I do hold the city responsible for the loss of land values on the properties on Casement and all along Madison Ave/Main Street. Can't imagine what the mosquito's will be like up here. It used to be very nice to drive up the hill to the cemetary. Most of us have improved our homes up here but we are getting no help from the city.
Our councilman is joke! He is letting this happen under his watch. Hey Hall drive around your ward once in a while. You managed to find us last November. The Madison Ave/Main Street is the eastern gateway to Painesville ........ yeah the sights are just beautiful...........

MADPOTTER, HATE TO DISAGREE BUT THE ONLY MENTION OF MILLSTONE/GRISTMILL IN ORDINANCE 14-08 AMENDING 937.57[a]. ON MAY 19,2008 CALLED FOR THE MONEY FOR "STREAM RESTORATION."
NOWHERE COULD I FIND WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THIS MONEY WILL BE USED TO HELP THE PROPERTY OWNERS THERE FINANCIALLY, OR THAT WE WILL LOSE CONTROL OF THAT PROPERTY.
MR. BRUBACK DID STATE IN A PRESENTATION FEBURARY 3, 2008 THAT MONEY WOULD GO TO MILLSTONE/GRISTMILL RESTORATION, BUT THIS WAS NEVER IN THE ORDINANCE AS FAR AS I COULD FIND.

WHY DONT WE HELP ALL THE CITY RESIDENTS WHO ARE FACING FORECLOSURE ON THEIR HOMES??? WHY IS COUNCIL BEING ASKED TO VOTE FOR TO BAIL OUT A CERTAIN GROUP IN A REBUILDABLE AREA???IF YOU NEED ANY GUIDANCE ON RE-BUILDING ASK THE RESIDENTS IN THE IMMEDIATE AREA WHICH HAVE COMPLETED THEIR RE-BUILDING WITH THEIR FEMA- MONIES.

IN ALL THE STATES WHICH ARE CURRENTLY HAVING FLOODING PROBLEMS HAD A ADMINISTRATION LIKE WE DO HERE IN PAINESVILLE THEY WOULD ALL BE NATURE PRESERVES.!!!! IS THAT WHAT WE WANT FOR US? IF YOUR ANSWER IS YES THEN IGNORE THIS BLOG,BUT IF YOU WANT SOME CHANGES MADE , GO TO A COUNCIL MEETING AND SPEAK OUT. DONT GO AND JUST SIT THERE AND LISTEN BUT STAND UP AND SAY YOUR PIECE. GRANTED YOU ONLY GET 3 MINUTES BUT YOU CAN SAY ALOT IN 3 MINUTES.BUT DONT EXPECT ANY ANSWERS BECAUSE ITS USUALLY A ONE SIDED CONVERSATION.

HERES A THOUGHT:
PAINESVILLE CITY GETS ALL THE GRANTS AVAILABILY TURNS THE MONEY OVER TO THE CONDO. ASSOCIATION THEN THEY SUE THE CITY OF PAINESVILLE FOR LETTING HOMES TO BE BUILT THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
HOW WILL THIS MONEY BE DIVIDED? WHATABOUT INSURANCE CLAIMS THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN PAID? THAT DEVELOPMENT DIDNT SEEM TO BE WORTH THAT HIGH A FIGURE, AND HACH BETTER NOT BE PART OF THE DEAL.

Hey, Nut Loose in Painesville,
If Mr.Hach's Dad's Co. comes in as low bidder on the job.
Thats ok, right ?

At June 26, 2008 at 3:31 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

Probably will be, I would be the low bidder if I got to see all the other bids before the deadline. Hach there for Hach, Fountain is there for L.C.D.C. and Dellamonte is there for Burgess & Niple.
