ENGINE 2333

This fire truck has served the City of Painesville for over 20 years. Last year during an inspection it was found to have some frame damage [corrosion]. At that time city council was presented with the plan of buying a new pumper engine for somewhere around $350,000. Which council passed. At that time questions were raised on repairing ENGINE 2333 and keeping it for a backup fire truck. The fire chief felt uncomfortable having his men use this vehicle even as a backup because of saftey concerns. So it was decided to put it up for sale, I guess to a community not as well off as Painesville or as concerned about saftey? Well I noticed E2333 was missing from its bay at the fire station and must have found a new home.
The new engine has not arrived yet so the bay is empty. I happened to drive past the water treatment plant at the end of State St. the other day and guess what was sitting out in the field? Right E2333.
We were told that truck was worth $20,000 to $30,000 when sold to another city. How much will it be worth sitting out in the elements until then? Its not like we didn"t have room for it in the station where it could be shown to buyers. No this administration worries very little about a few $20,000. but $20,000 here and $20,000 there might add up to a little saving in a few years.

Why don't you call Mark and ask him why it is there, instead of putting down the city all of the time, this is a great city.

You do not know why it is there.
And this city is great, some things need work like anywhere else, but you need to live somewhere else to know how much we have here.
No, I'm not related to Mark.

All of you good citizens need to work on helping the city to reach it's potential. Gripe and complain all you want --- that doesn't change anything. GET INVOLVED!!!! There are plenty of areas that you can assist in.
This was a fantastic city once -- and we are still the County Seat of Lake County. Let's help bring the glory back. We have a lot to offer here.

I don't know why its there, but you do. Please enlighten us. Did they need room at the fire station to take a $1500.00 Ford Econoline out of the elements? The "fire bus" shared that bay with E2333 before? Please comment on whats "GREAT" about Painesville I want your input. TERM>>

Really, why is that truck out there? Had to go see for myself. That truck looked in pretty good shape to be disgarded like it was.

The city parks all vehicles, they are getting rid of there, either waiting for the sale or pick up.

Terminator, if you are so concerned about this truck sitting out until a buyer is found, maybe you should buy it.
Really, I thought all the
naysayers only showed up at council. Either there are more of you out there or you are the few negative people that show up to do nothing but complain.
Why don't you do something constructive like volunteer, get a job, get a life.
Frances

Frances, Thanks for your suggestions. 1. myself and 17,000 other residents have payed for that fire truck once... and thats enough. I don't consider myself a complainer or a naysayer {whatever that is] Just someone who's spent most of his life here and sees a town in trouble, and wants to stop some of the crazyness. I somtimes volunteer, have a full time job and Thank God a pretty good life. I will help any good candidate for office that will be positive for the city, but have no desire to run for office myself. Frances I'm glad your happy in Painesville, and thanks for visiting the site. TERM>>

Will someone explain if this fire truck is'nt good enough for our fire department, how do we justify selling it to someone else.A frame can be boxed and be better then new, this truck would make a perfect back-up. I'm starting to see all the wasted money.

What did you just move here
everyone knows about the firetruck, go to the city website and look up the minutes of past meetings.

One more thing Term shows up at council meetings.
I think he is the #2 naysayer.

Frances, you have offended so many of us on so many different levels. If we go to council meetings we are naysayers and complainers. The people who spend their time at council meetings do not volunteer. So we should just sit at home like you? I will match my volunteer hours against yours any day. And I hold down a full time job. What have you done? Just because I attend council meetings to stay informed and to let council know that we are concerned citizens and will monitor what they do does not make me a naysayer. You can see what has happened when council has been left unchecked. Come on Frances, show me your volunteer hours and I'll show you mine.

That doesn't answer the person's question. If its not good enough for us how can it be good enough for someone else? Why is it sitting out in that field?
#2 naysayer, we try harder TERM>>
P.S. Yes I do, please come join me.

I think Frances was talking about the 3 to 4 city guys and the 1 twp. person that just look for things to NAYSAY about.

This is a good city.

If you keep putting it down, it will stay down.

I also think Frances is at the meetings, with us.

You think we're looking for things to naysay about? Well, we don't have to look hard. So what do you want us to do? Stay home and do nothing? Come to meetings and do nothing? Or come to meetings and just pat council on the back and let them go their merry way? Neither is acceptable. Someone has to step forward and hold council accountable or this city will continue to disintegrate before our eyes.

Ask this question are we a better place to live than in; 1938? 1948? 1958? 1968? 1978? 1988? 1998?
Try to be honest, and although all this is not anyones fault in power here now. It a definite downward spiral.
I wish I could ignore most of what I see like some of you, but I just can not keep my eyes closed that long.

What you say is very true.
But the same goes for the whole world, but we still live in a great city
