" THE BIG MONEY " rush

Sometimes pushing people around
Sometimes pulling out the rug

Monday Night Council Meeting Highlight's... this will be in two parts.

Two Ordinances with concerns to Amending Chapter 1373 and Chapter 1375

Amended!  Maybe sent to the woodshed.

I understand the need  for these Ordinances but come on when a $25.00 fee being 24 hours late becomes a $3,000 penalty? Even the Mafia pops it's head up!  Council was told a story by a young lady who purchased Wakefield Court it seems she tried numerous times to contact City Hall to no avail. Well she had a child and left things to her father. Somehow filing that fee was one day to late. Now I can't speak for them or the City but I have heard similar stories. Now is this to improve Painesville or a simple money grab? Rules are Rules the City should remember that when they spot zone.

The $3,000 penalty would go to the city  instead of improving Wakefield Court or severance cameras for the place , how does this make Painesville a better place to live?

Ordinance to sell three acres to Growth Orchard passed, I asked our City Manager TWICE about the "Reversion Clause" with no response even after city officials claim it was there? More stink and it ain't from the sewer plant.

Discussion of the formation of the Electric Committee continued, this is a farce people 3-5 members cant work for First Energy well what if a resident owns a 1000 shares of First Energy stock. I'm telling you this is all for show, and nothing substantial will come from this.

AMP-OHIO  Voting yes authorizing execution  to the AMP-Enerwise Demand Response and 1CP Pilot  Program.

You know how we tell ourselves the reason to keep our power plant functioning due to 'Peak Shaving'? Well this AMP-OHIO program will get large electric users and give them a deal if they cut back on power during high energy use. Sounds like we are cutting our own throat's? But our CM assured us this would have no affect on the operation of our plant?

After the meeting someone mentioned I was Grumpy?   Well if you sat through all this and weren't grumpy what can I say?

I mentioned this was a two part well here it comes. (SEE ABOVE POST)

A $3000 fine for a $25 fee??
Who (besides City Hall) could possibly think that is right or fair??

The only reason for these two ordinances is to allow the City more control over private property AND to keep the Community Development fiefdom expanding. Funny that we never had such a thing until we had to have an asst City Manager and now we can't live without them. Thanks Rita!

Don't hold your breath waiting to see a "reversion clause" on writing. I would be stunned if it is in the contract.

7:09 It seems these policies are more punishment as well to enrich city coffers.
Council listens and sits there without a solution.
Interesting also how the city compounds penalties?
Maybe the city should have lawyer up? I see it coming.
Not holding my breathe another "I wasn't here when that happened" Grumpy out!

Sitting at that meeting last night and hearing that story my head began to spin! When I heard Doug Lewis and all the stuff on renting in Painesville and fees and fines etc. Vacant property is a money maker no doubt for the city.

What if someone dies, say a parent and life long resident of the city but their children live out of state or country and they have no living relatives within the 50 mile radius or adjacent counties (as we listened to that topic at length last night) The house owned by the dead persons estate and presumably children out of state puts it on the hot Painesville real estate market. It is sitting vacant. My mother in laws house sat vacant for 5 years but we took care of it every weekend until it sold, technically it was vacant. What if someone calls the vacant property a vacation home? The fees, penalties and fine incurred would wipe out the estate.

I guess what I learned is every single thing you do in this city must be reported to city hall.

And I would also like to add that city council sits there stone faced and although I pretty much expected that on tree cutting, I sure didn't expect that on the woman with the $3,000 fine! She has a good working relationship with Fairport Harbor but not here! She can't even get returned phone calls! Council sat there! No one council person or administration offered her a phone call or recommendation or anything! She made a very telling comment though when she said one of her friends was looking to purchase property in Painesville and she steered them away and told that person, with cash in hand, what she was going through! How stupid can we be? Anybody own a business on council? This is not the way to treat good customers!

8:39 Sorry no sympathy from Doug Lewis and a silent council in fear of an administration? How in good conscience could you recommend Painesville?

So what happens to the SnowBirds that flock to Florida for 4-6 months. Would that house, while away be considered Vacant? I know there is a minimum fee for water and electric. With no one living there they could come back to a bill with a rate higher than when they were living there in the summer? Just another reason to get out of here, for good next time.

I am not understanding what happened to the woman who owned so much money. Did I miss it? Please explain again.

8:41 You and me both. I listened and none of it made sense.
12:59 You must report your whereabouts to the proper authorities under the 'Golden Dome' Yes another reason to leave. You ever notice no one retires and moves North?

This is 8:41. I mean, I didn't get any part of it. Was it a property violation? Failure to register some outrageous none-of-their-business thing to the city? How did it originate...with what?

As an aside, I own a home here, and I also tell people not to even think of this city when they are looking for a place to live. It doesn't seem to matter who is running the city as far as city manager, etc., goes, or who is on council. It's all stupid all of the time, and it's all against the citizens. I tell them to save themselves and move on. There's also so many people who wouldn't even consider it here without the warnings from the residents. We already had a bad reputation with Argonne, etc., then the call out by former council member, Abby Delamotte, on natinal TV, no less, for all illegal Hispanics to come here, then the school 50% ppolicy, etc. Then there are the inspectors. When we moved here, trying to get our plumbing repairs, etc., approved was nearly impossible. It was so horrible that I almost had to move in with no plumbing, and if I hadn't already bought the home, I would have ceased my efforts, and moved out, and moved on. And I can't remember the name of the woman who goes around harassing property owners about property violations, but I hear that she is just as horrible as ever. I believe she's the same woman, who years ago, actually got up on something, and looked into the windows of a homeowner who was living in the home! They then cited them on violations on what they saw inside.

Run. Save yourself. Get out before you do something dumb like buy a home here or open a business here. The saying "you can't fight city hall" may have originated in this city.

6:41 The City of Painesville has just a few revenue sources. Income Tax, small amount of property tax, grants as well as revenue from our three businesses Electric, Water and Sewer. By the administrations admitting they don't know if these make money lose money or break even? So they are in constant vigil to find new revenue. Blighted, abandoned property lead us to where we are. I agree if the property is not used but is maintained what business is it of the City? Look after listening this seems just like a money grab plain and simple. Is Painesville a better place? Only resident's can decide. I don't know what else to tell you but with honest ambassador's like yourself Painesville will never be what it once was.
Laws like if you don't register your rental property and get caught it's a $100.00 fine if you fail to re-register your rental property it's a $250.00 fine? Doesn't make sense does it?
Let's face it it's amateur hour to collect an extra buck and an elected council votes and let it happen.

I still do not understand how that woman ended up with such a huge fine. How and why did it originate? How did it get so big?

Politicians and beuracrats are always looking for new revenue sources.
Then, for every dollar they take in, they try to spend three dollars.
That is what gets us into the tax and spend situations we have at every level of government.
The Community Development office has developed into quite a money making little kingdom.

New Revenue? We have had Cathy Bietermann (Economic Development? Community Development? Get the 2 confused) A secretary was hired, Barb M. Now I heard Barb M. is really the festivities/activities planner so Ms Bieterman can concentrate on her job, bringing in business to the city. Sorry, what businesses? A couple factories, marijuana facility and not to forget the Soto Insurance Co, se' habla Espanol? We are now and have been paying 2 people to do the job one person can and should be doing. Where is the ER promised, where is the development on the old hospital grounds, where are the proposed items on old Harvey high? But we got specialty shops and green space out the ears? Shame.

7:18 Let's not forget we did get MAR-BAL to move into the CORE facility. Look least we forget Painesville's not an easy sell. Can we sell our past? What is our future anyway. We have all heard the empty promises. With the exception of our Safety forces I will agree we are overstaffed. We make a nice place to work.

Don't forget that we have an assistant City Manager too. This was a job that never existed until Rita made it very clear that she did not want to attend evening meetings anymore so we had to hire someone else to do part of her job.

Let's be real, if the best we can do is sell off City land to get a MJ "factory", we are in deep trouble.

10:57 Yes we are in deep trouble. My question is how this new enterprise will relate to how our city is viewed?

The new City motto will be
"Smoke 'em if you have 'em!"
