I might like to explain myself here. As some of you may have guessed I'm a pretty liberal person. Live and let live. I care not what or where you worship, whom you choose as a partner you want to marry someone of the same sex that's your business. I am not opposed to medical marijuana or even if someone partakes in recreational marijuana use. I do believe it is a gateway to other drugs.
Now my belief is that over eight out of ten people can deal with marijuana without any kind of social problem. It's those other two I worry about. I have seen first-hand the disastrous results.
Someone mentioned it's only a matter of time before it's legalized, so legalize it. Don't blow smoke up my a## telling me this is all about medical use, be honest. How many 40,000 sq.ft. facilities do you need for medical marijuana? Opportunities' exactly for who? Growth Orchard please Explain.
We elect people to look over our dominion and to respect what resident's in our city expect in their decision's. Following federal law is one of those things?
If it our new city manager or her economic team behind promoting this hair brain idea
maybe it's time to go in a different direction.
Call it what you will, I believe it is a mistake to sell city property to an endeavor that is and will be in violation of federal law. End of subject.

1. RESOLUTION 2nd Reading: A Resolution Declaring certain Real Estate Owned by the City as no longer needed for Municipal Purposes and Authorizing the City Manager to sell or lease real estate to Growth Orchard Partners, LLC
1. RESOLUTION- declaring certain real estate no longer needed for Municipal purposes, The resolution will allow the City Manager to enter into a 1 year option agreement with Growth Orchard for 3 acres of land at a sale or lease price of $45,500 per acre. This option will allow Growth Orchard to move forward in making application for two licenses with the Ohio Department of Commerce. The first license is a medical marijuana cultivation license with a May 2017 rule adoption with licenses around September 2017, if they stay on schedule. The second license is a medical marijuana processing license with a September 2017 rule adoption with licenses around January 2018, if they stay on schedule.
After watching council for over 10 years I have never witnessed actions like this for anyone but themselves.

I am for the sale and OK with the proposed usage. If the grower is legal and has the proper permits, let them give it a shot.
This could be a nice stimulus package for the city, instead of another missed opportunity.

Maybe Council thinks (or knows) they can "back door" this?
I find it very frustrating that the Council members think so little of their constituents that the resort to holding special meetings to accomplish this.
IMO, there is absolutely no reason this needs to be fast tracked through Council, Planning, Zoning, or anyone else. There are procedures in place to safe guard the residents and to allow them to be heard.
Why is Council afraid of a Public Hearing on this??
Look folks, the issue is not whether MJ is legal or not, not whether it is medical or not, it isn't even about whether MJ is a miracle cure that everyone needs.
This is all about the Council and Administration ignoring all the processes in place, that every other business would have to follow, in pursuit of tax dollars.
If this Council passes this by with no public input, I would NEVER vote for any of them again. That would prove what an embarrassing group they are.
As far as that property goes, how do they know that in 10 years there won't be an important use for it. They'd better lease and not sell. But second of all, what in the hell is that going to do the property values of the homeowners around there? I'm one of them, and we've got enough problems with the odors from the plant around here. We don't need pot growing in our back yards. Can we sue the city for the value lost on our properties, or for people trying to get into and through our properties to get to the pot? I can't imagine that this is not going to wipe out all the value that's left on our homes.
Clearly the city cares nothing for the property values of those neighborhoods in that area, especially the ones next to that property. And having a substance growing that could bring criminal activity with people trying to get on the properties of the neighbors to attempt to steal some MJ, is a terrible idea. This does not belong in a residential neighborhood. This does not belong by children. They do not have the right to decimate our property values like this. What next...that's always the question with this stupid city. Just what next.

I just noticed that the Council announcement calls for a "sale or lease of $45500 per acre" price.
There is kind of a big difference between selling and leasing.
If it is a lease, how often will the $45K be paid?
Yearly?
Monthly?
If the City is selling, that is entirely different.
It shows that someone isn't doing their job properly if they think there is no difference.
Just a thought, isn't this the same bunch that expected Steele Mansion to jump through hoops to serve alcohol?

I personally think all pot should be legal to adults -- medical and recreational -- but to propose putting it in a residential area, where the values of homes will be wiped out, is unconscionable. Don't they have other land they can lease? I, too, would like the input of money for the city, but this is unacceptable. The sewage plant being right here in the neighborhood is enough already, especially because they have never cared about the odors it emits. MJ growing does not belong in a neighborhood. Knock it off, Painesville.

Wow, not sure what everyone is thinking but this is not going to grown like a field of corn. Normally medical MJ is grown inside in a secure building.
So, as a neighbor, other than knowing it is there you would not see anything but a big building sitting there. It would appear to be like any other business, a loading dock, some deliveries and shipments, an employee parking lot, etc.
They don't burn it, they don't flaunt it, they have cameras and security guards. I would guess that your neighborhood would actually become safer having it there.
Also, just to really make all the worry warts nervous, there are other locations in the city being looked at (not talking industrial park either).
I want to know when they are hiring? I could use a job and hopefully I'd get one there in a place that's more secure than the banks here.

You are sadly mistaken, no other sites were mentioned after last Thursday.
Additionally I might point out that it is not what you see, or don't see, but the fact that this is a business (and the ONLY business) in an exclusively residential area. Look at a zoning map of the City to see what I mean.

11:52. I am one of the homeowners in close vicinity that is against it being there. But I did assume it would be grown outside since no one has said different. If it is grown inside then that does make it somewhat better. I invest in MJ in the stock market, so I am aware that a lot of grow areas are inside, but some are out, and no one in the city has said it's an inside-only grow area. Does anyone know for sure? You said "normally." Do you know what is going to happen there? Or are you speculating? Does the city know? What are the rules going to be? Inside grow only? Outside grow only? Both? Did they happen to mention what the rules are going to be?
