" TAKE A LETTER MARIA " r.b. greaves

Send a copy to my lawyer

Interesting how things fall into your hands? Best guess someone on staff a Heritage Middle School thought I needed to see this?

Now I shared this memo with all Council members as well as Painesville Police Chief Powalie '.

Subject: SRO and student removals

The police officer should not be the first point of contact for a student removal from a classroom. We usually have Officer Soto, but we can have anyone. Although we appreciate his and their presence, they are not trained as SRO'S.

If a student needs to be removed from class, an contact the office who will send a staff member or an administrator. It is the administrator's call if an SRO should intervene.

If you have any questions regarding this, please see me individually.

Principal Heritage Middle School

Look this is word for word from the memo.

Is this Board of Education policy? Does the hierarchy on Jefferson St. approve of this?  Could this also be the policy at Harvey? (I don't think so)

Do you see the contradiction?  They are not trained SRO's but let an administrator call an SRO?

Really so what reason should this policy be in place ? Is a staff member trained as an SRO?

Do we wait until the situation escalates out of control? Why?

I for the life of me can't understand why a police officer is viewed this way in a school building by the administration? The students, teacher's as well as administrator's should feel safer with that SRO on call.

Look I asked Council person Jenkins if someone had to be removed from this council room right now would she call Council person DiNallo or Police Chief Powalie? She look at me like that was a dumb question, it was.

This item should be added to the PCLS Handbook if it is policy, the parent's as well well as the community should be made aware.

Lot's of talk how much banks and Wall St. are contributing to different candidates? Hillary's got to be #1 right? Wrong,  She has received $6,300,000. Jeb Bush $35,000,000 and believe it or not Ted Cruz (The Canadian candidate) $12,000,000.

What really did you expect? Missy DeAngelis is a disciple of Kim Martin. She was taught by the best!

Well, if you were to call for a SRO, she would not be able to sweep the problem under the rug quite as effectively.
This way no one knows what did, or did not, happen.

As a side thought, given the way things are today, why would anyone want to be a teacher or a police officer (especially in a school).
There appears to be no respect for any sort of "authority".
Then you have the parents that stand up for their children's bad behavior screaming that "My little Johnny would NEVER do that".
What a thankless job.

When I send my son to Heritage I expect him to get an education. I also assume that the number one priority of staff is for him to have a safe learning environment. This doesn't seem to be the case does it?

11:36 You are so correct. So much disrespect and antagonistic children. When a simple request as to put your phone away, move to your correct seat, take off your hood, please wait - they will thumb their nose, say NO and call you a racist. Most parents act the same way when called to explain the situation for the day. BUT- there are handfuls of exceptional kids that are upstanding students and that makes your day.

If you need to remove a student from a class it is a school official that should do it. Not a SRO...as they have no right to do anything. When a law has not been brokers. If the school official tries to remove the child and that child becomes unruly or disorderly then the officer can now step in... The SRO is at that school to be a conduit between the students and the police. He is there to gather information. And help to insure the safety of all, both students and school employees, also in force laws

Cameras in every class room.
A multitude of problems could vanish.

6:36 "It's like deja vu all over again?

Dear staff;

In a meeting with the SRO, it has come to our attention (Missy, Dave, and I) that teachers are calling, emailing, and reporting students to the SRO without first (or ever) reporting incidents to Dave, Missy or me. Please refer to the call list that has been shared in the past if you need assistance in your classroom. Remember, immediate disruptions should be directed by phone call to Mrs. O (ISA), Val. Darlene, or an administrator as we all have walkie talkies and can be alerted to a classroom. Please calls or emails directly to Officer Ponder do not keep us in the loop and we need to close that communication gap. Communications between teachers and SRO should not commonly occur (except on very rare occasions), and should be directed first by an administrator, Remember, students are protected under FERPA and ONLY directory information can be shared with individuals that are not PCLS employees.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Didn't think I kept this crap, Uh?

So I guess someone with at least four or five years of college with a degree doesn't have the capability to know when to call a SRO officer? That's what I get from these two memos? Let's hope nothing bad happens as we go through the process?

6:34 You are correct and let's hope along with a parent a teacher or SRO doesn't have to defend themselves from the school administration?

Sorry, the steps for a problem should be teacher removal - hall monitor escort - administration called then lastly the SRO. Some students to respond well to the principals so those that don't, the habitual problems, are the ones that will need to be removed by a cop. 1:50 - SCHOOLS - not just one school. Things are well hidden at the high school.
And if my memory serves me right, when the schools were being built cameras were to be installed so the police could be outside if there was an inside situation and zero in. Check the ceilings in all the classrooms. The kids say those black discs are cameras.
One in every classroom.

I have read this post and the comments with both interest and sadness. Ms. DeAngelis is not a bad person. She does have OUR students best interests at heart. Unfortunately, she seems to be a clone of Kim Martin instead of just being her own person. Whether willingly or not, she has adopted the Kim Martin philosophy of 'helping' students by changing their grades, deleting behavioral incidents from the computer, prohibiting contact with the SRO, going through staff emails, pressuring teachers to change grades for eligibility purposes, retaliating against staff in their evaluations, and failing to cooperate with law enforcement, to name a few. You need only check the ASPEN NEWS to see they did not renew Kim Martin's contract for the same grade changing tactics there.
I can only hope and pray that Ms. DeAngelis who genuinely cares about our students will be the administrator and woman she CAN be by being firm with our students and unifying rather than alienating her staff to work together for student and staff safety.

9:09 I will find out.

10:59 The lady that handed that memo to me has no axe to grind with the BOE, the administration, Heritage Middle as well as Ms. DeAngelis.
Her only concern as is mine is for the safety of the students as well as staff at Heritage. Not all the stories coming out of that building can be wrong. My idea is better be safe than sorry. Ms. Martin seems to have burned the bridges in Aspen as she had in Painesville. I have no doubt that Ms. DeAngelis cares about the students as well as the staff at Heritage Some of us just disagree on her methods?
