" DON'T NEGLECT THE ROSES" larry sparks
Got off of Richmond St. this morning, viewed how manicured the underpass by the power plant was.
Headed to downtown viewed city workers putting down mulch on Main St. Lookin' good for the Bathtub Races (how original).
Went to T &T for famous Painesville bread and then headed down N. State to check on the homestead.
Now in less then two weeks I expect a huge group of people coming to Painesville for the first time and the underpass on State St. well, it's a mess the grass hasn't even been cut yet this year.
How this city can send out letters to residents about grass length and completely ignore city owned grass three feet high a couple of hundred yards from the service garage is beyond me?
Everybody worries about Painesville's "image" well here's a good start.
Downtown Bath Tub Races are fun but what has any group done about cleaning up the surrounding area of the Train Station? I expect at least 2,500 or more visitors to the Lincoln Funeral Train event all from outside the communities'. Has the downtown restaurants and businesses been notified ? Or will they roll-up downtown early Saturday and not even bother on Sunday. Painesville fare; McDonalds, Taco Bell, Arby's and Burger King ?
Have fliers been printed up to promote Painesville's downtown to these visitors?, Has anyone asked Tony Torre to park a couple of his antique postal trucks outside the station for photo opportunities? Anyone make arrangement for say Lollie the Trolley to transport visitors to and from the exhibit?
I do know Steele Mansion as well as Rider's Inn is promoting this event.
This could build a lot of traction for not only the Railroad museum but also the city of Painesville.
This idea not looking so dumb now right Mr. Fodor?
Bath Tub races....Please !
Any idea's some of you may have please add them. I think someone maybe paying attention.

Leave Fodor alone. Hows is your buddy Mr. Shepard the schools grounds look GREAT!!!! MAYBE have another sit down with him
so he can blow more smoke up yours
Who is this anticipated huge group of people coming in less than 2 weeks. Gee I thought you were mellowing with age when you began with all the compliments. How quickly you went down hill.
My wife and I saw city workers watering the hanging flower baskets on Main Street, on Memorial Day. She called City Hall yesterday to ask if the workers were being paid overtime to water flowers, but nobody knew the answer. Does anyone know if it's overtime pay for our city's workers to do these kinds of tasks on holidays?
9:53 Mr. Fodor knows what I'm talking about. Leave it at that.
12:02 Just me I'll stand by that number.
me mellow? Just the facts Jack.
2:53 This is a question to ask a council person, odd the Golden Dome didn't know? Or put your call through to someone who might know. Best guess no the might just be part-timers who are not protected by a union. The only city employee's that should work the holiday are safety forces and maybe plow drivers in a bad snowstorm.
You did not answer the question - Who are these large number of people, why are they coming to Painesville? Will there be the Clydesdales this time?
term knows all just ask him
Wow those city workers were in the cemeteries, blocking roads for a parade and, and providing a Memorial Day Ceremony and concert. Damn them 2:53.
Not saying everything is done right or covered at all times but give them break.
5:05 Sorry no Clydesdales? But will have a Leviathan. A full sized operating replica of the steam engine that was used on Lincolns Funeral Train. Also a sister engin (Jupiter) that was used to connenct transcontinental railroad at Promontory, Utah.
Tell a train buff there's a live steam engine around and they will come out of the woodwork. Not only train buffs but history buffs will be out to view the funeral engine and car. In it's day this car was the equivalent of Air Force I after thhe funeral no other President ever used that car.
I was told when Lincoln stopped in Painesville during his inauguration some Lake Erie College female students went to the station to see him. I'm paraphasing here, but President Lincoln looked at the college students and mentioned he was looking a a better sight than they were looking at.
9:23 If Term knew all, he probably wouldn't be here?
2:39 I wonder where the outrage comes if a resident asks a question? What they don't deserve an answer because..?
The workers are told what jobs they are to proform by supervisors obviously none go under the State St. underpass?
On another note E.Erie St repaving started yesterday, Thank-God.
2:39,
We don't blame the workers; they just do what they're told. We are questioning, though, whether overtime pay is being given to them for performing tasks unimportant enough that they could've been done the next day. City Hall and council members often claim that the city's budget is tight; if it is so, wouldn't it be prudent to save money when possible? If the city is paying overtime for watering flowers, we want to know, and have a right to know.
Trains? No way...Yawn. And yes city workers o plenty at Memorial parade. I lost count of the number of workers, must have been the entire city work force on OT for a parade and parking in a cemetery. I'd love to see that over time budget.
I watched Michael Victor's acceptance reception as the next president at Mercyhurst U. in Erie, Pa. on May 22nd. This has been in the works for awhile. Victor did a good job at Lake Erie College and added to the community. He will be missed more than un-watered flower pots. Priorities I guess. Truly hope the college can find as dynamic a president as Victor was, for the community's sake.
Don't forget the Bathtub Races tonight.
Downtown Painesville. Pack the square and give em a reason to come to the Ville.
PS Bring your umbrellas so you don't get splashed.
Does anyone have any more info on the First Friday event next week? The ad shows that it will include jazz. I always thought Painesville should host a jazz festival--something different than Party in the Park. Obviously they won't get any big names for Friday, but at least I hope there's a good variety of talent.
Bathtub races or anytime the city wants to close a main artery....... Put a police officer at State and Main to direct traffic. I was stuck and on my way to work. Watched people almost fist fight over the light at Washington and State. On a Friday night it's not such a great way to start the weekend!
10:27 First Friday Events? Maybe Amateur Boxing at State and Washington?
11:54 Sandy first I loved the pictures of you canoeing on Casement Ave.
Driving through Painesville the last couple of weeks seems to be some kind of test as to how most of us will find our way out? It's all about how we operate.
Seems you got the grass cut on the underpass.
To bad the schools look bad but that is Terms buddy!
Why weren't the bathtub races in the local paper? Seems they may have something against us? Or maybe short on reporters?
5:20 give it a month or so.
