"EARLY MORNING FIRE AT KENSINGTON APARTMENTS

An early morning fire broke out at Kensington Apt. around 4:30am this morning is the second unit back from the street. Residents heard a popping sound as windows blew out at one of the units.

More than 20 fire department responded to the three alarm fire due to mutual aid. Seven people were transported to Tri-Point Hospital do to smoke inhalation.

Fire departments from as far away as Euclid and Mayfield responded. Seemed odd to see a Tower Truck from Euclid heading down Cedarbrook towards the apartments.

Heritage Middle School is closed today because the parking lot and school were used as a staging area as well as the cafeteria used for firefighters.

Look I've been harping on this missing Tower Truck but this is the second fire in the last six months where that fire truck could have been very useful. I'm presently not in much of a mood to hear excuses as to why and how. Only that it isn't around. If it doesn't make a difference due to mutual aid then why purchase it in the first place?

We will probably never know the why's and the how's because recently the city administration allegedly  has sent out a letter to employee's to not  speak to anyone or attend council meetings and make complaints about city operations. So much for whistleblowers?

When I was a 10 year old I watched as a small child who was burned alive in a car fire. Seconds seemed like minutes minute's seemed like hour's my whole point is will a situation arise when mutual aid won't be enough?

Do we expect our fire department to fight fires with one hand tied behind their backs?

I agree with you 100%.
The purchase of that particular truck was a source of concern back then and is of more concern today.
Look, "routine" maintenance is to be expected. What should not be expected, or tolerated, is for a valuable piece of equipment to be out of service more than 50% of the time.
Would your boss tolerate your being off your job that amount of time? I doubt it.
Thankfully mutual aid exists and it works. Otherwise who can say what might have occurred?

I suspect the City Manager sent out the letter establishing a "gag order" on city employees because of the comments made by the Police Chief to TERM about the "90 second EMS response time". It's not a very friendly place to work.

Could be? My money is on the statement of the retired asst. city engineer.

I am tired about hearing about mutual aid. It is the city's responsibility to take care of the residents and property in Painesville. Heads should roll if it is found that that truck was an unwise purchase. Minutes to hours, yes especially if your waiting for equipment. Recently the angel's have protected us.

Someone should question the police department on why they are at the area around the electric plant so much? Is there a contract for surveillance or security? Council should ask.

Sorry but which retired assistant city manager ? The city can not stop city employees from going to meetings . If they live in the city if is their right to go to meetings and speak if they wish

The CM makes life very uncomfortable for an employee who speak openly to a Councilperson, the press, the public and especially the Terminator. Up until recently, this was an unwritten rule, Now, it's official. The previous CM nickname was the "Queen". Now we work for "Putin".

Buy a brand new truck! and no more school levy's ! we need a new Tax ! just more money raise taxes let something happen and run with it!

Did we need all thous fire trucks there? or the firemen need some overtime? did they use all the trucks that were there? or just drive them there and stand buy! and get money?
look I know we need fire and police
but! lets vote on a levy O we DID!

9:26 Look again city engineer not manager. He left an impression at the two January meeting.
11:46 I understand the city position on this but after watching the last city and school administrations actions we should be as transparent as we can.
Presently I communicate with at least five city employee's and I for one will never reveal who they are. They know me and I know them. Putin cute! Sad that man will pay for the sins of the ones now gone.
3:37 Sorry, if the wind would have kicked up Friday morning there could of been a chance the whole complex might have gone up. To Err on the side of caution made sense. Also how long did you expect a firefighter to work efficiently under those conditions? The more the better. Seems your beef is with school levies?

On another note about the fire. Isn't it a little strange no one was home at the time of the fire? Along with no mention who the person or persons that lived there where?
It will be interesting to also find the cause of the fire.

According to Downtown Painesville Facebook
The Perez family lost everything in a recent fire including two vehicles.
The Perez family includes three sons.
A place to donate is up on the Facebook site.

So the paper claims no one home and the Facebook claim that they lost both vehicles?
Along with the fire starting at 4:15 Friday morning?
Explanation?

Why does anyone owe you an explanation?

It's a tragedy and thankfully nobody lost their life. There isn't always a conspiracy or lie to be exposed with everything that happens in life.

If you would like to help the family with their loss, I am sure they would appreciate it.

11:06, this is 7:43 and I think you might be misunderstanding what I wrote.

I don't say that mutual aid should be what we rely on BUT is is a good thing to have. This fire apparently proved that. No single fire department can possible afford all the equipment that they might like. The tax liability would kill the average citizen. In fact, apparently in Painesville, we can only afford to buy 23 year old trucks rather than new ones. However in the time since the aerial truck was purchased, I would bet a LOT of money that no dollars have been saved or set aside to buy a replacement for this truck when it is needed. Our Council will be crying "poor" again at that time, count on it.

Think of it this way, would you rather save $50K for 20 years or would you rather try to come up with $1M all at once? No one in this town seems to think longer term than the next election. After all, it will be a problem for someone else at that time.

10:11 Who are you to ask for an 'explanation"? Just send money no questions asked!

So now in addition to armchair politicians you all are armchair police fire and rescue too? Unbelievable how you can sit around your computers to offer stupid suggeations and second guess the professionals. I wish I knew where you all work so I could to the same to you. This world would be so much better off if people would mind their business and keep their nose where it belongs instead of making trouble for the hard working class people in this town. Walk a mile in others shoes before you shoot your mouths off people.

Armchair politicians, council and city managers arent enough. Now you are all armchair police, firemen and rescue workers. You should leave it to the experts and save your silly opinions to your self.

4:17/6:21 Experts and professionals? You are Put-in me on? The experts and professionals are pretty much the main reason we paid out two million dollars for something never built, purchasing the most expensive electricity in the country new buildings never used, infrastructure (roads waterlines) in disrepair, purchasing 23 year old fire trucks the list goes on and on. Along with police that aren't even trained in CPR?
Professional you can be a professional panhandler is it profession or is it who has just the longest tenure?
Some complain that the new CM don't listen to them, Well after watching the last regime I understand why he doesn't. Maybe all he wishes is a days work for a days pay. No make-up Fridays where Friday's were set aside for what wasn't accomplished during the first four work days. Seems an analogy of Mr. Carson would be he was made Captain of the Titanic 15 minutes after it hit the iceberg?
Making it hard for the working class people? Look 78% of Painesville workers live God knows where. leaving only 22% of workers as citizens.
Someone asked if I would attend the Founders Day Saturday? Look I don't need to hear people slapping themselves on the back for whatever they believed they accomplished in the past year as well as tell me stories about the future accomplishments. If the powers to be knew how many residents felt this way they might tone it down.
People are looking for results not excuses!

How do you figure they had one hand tied behind their back? What is meant by that? This city is too poor to fund what they need to properly. This city has No MONEY so now the firemen are to blame? Instead of the taxpayers?Just what makes you the expert?

11:31 It means they didn't have the equipment at their disposal to fight a fire. The residents just passed a fire levy along with being compensated by insurance companies for EMS runs. We will be watching how fast we burn through this money.
Council should be very carful when another professional suggest any purchase.
How did I blame the firemen?

Downtown Facebook left a notice that their site wasn't the place to lodge complaints about the city. Yes they are waking up.
