"WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDS" green day

September 2016.

Yes as many predicted the Democrats lost in a sea of red, a wave, a tsunami. Bad night for the President? Not even a question but a fact. I don't know even some of the people in his party threw him under the bus. Bad leader? or to inexperienced to know how Washington makes the sausage. What I guess the Republicans won 10 seats? A number they will have to remember 67 that's how many votes you need to override a Presidential veto.

On the local level Kimberly Laurel lost in a close race with Dan Troy. Yes and I hope we haven't heard the last of her. Maybe in two years she may learn to listen and smooth out the ruff edges. This county needs new blood.

Interesting numbers nationally is that in the five states where voters had a chance to vote for a higher minimum wage it pasted in all five states. Will Congress see the light?

Gerrymandering. Democrats better learn how important races are derived first lets look at the numbers in the 14th Congressional district and the  11th district

In the 14th  Joyce (R)  garnered  133,272 votes and Zetzer (R)  34,467 in the 11th total 167,739

In the 11th Fudge (D) garnered 130,425 votes and Wager (D) 69,410 in the 14th total  199,835          . 32,000 votes and nothing to show for it. Live and learn.

See how important having the power to draw congressional maps. I'm going out on a limb her but I wonder what the total votes for Democrats and Republicans totals were thought the state.

Something I have noticed over the past 40 years everyone elected either  Dems, GOP plans to go and "fix" Washington little fixing has been done.

To fellow Democrats time is now to find replacements for Sen. Majority  Harry Reed and Minority House leader Nancy Pelosi. Fresh faces, fresh ideas.

President Obama  don't give any reason for this bunch to impeach you or it will be a mess for the next to you. Something every working American should listen for now is entitlement reform seems some believe they have a mandate.

Gerrymandering has long held a fascination for me. I guess I don't really understand how it is so hard to draw lines that really make any sense. However, politicians will never be able to do it.

With that said, your comparisons in the 14th and 11th districts really don't tell the story. I will assume that the numbers you cite are accurate.
I am also assuming that you mean that the Democrats had 32000 votes more than the Republicans in total?

You then say that the Democrats garnered 199K votes but have nothing to show for it? How about the seat that Ms Fudge holds/won again? Isn't that something?

Perhaps I am misunderstanding but when one party has one seat and the other party has the other seat, it would seem to be pretty even. Total voters can not be used as a valid measuring criteria because of a number of factors the least of which is, who actually went to the polls that day.

I completely agree with you on the need for new faces. Reid, Pelosi, McConnell, Boehner and such all need to fade away. While we are at it, (Jeb) Bush and (Hillary) Clinton need to go away too. Time for new ideas.

8:27 missed a period should read 32,000 votes and nothing to show for it.

Gerrymandering lets look at Ohio Congressional votes in 2012.

Republicans garnered 2,620,233 votes 50.96%

Democrats garnered 2,412,385 votes 46.91%

Smaller parties 2%+

Now Ohio has 16 congressional seats Republicans say got 51% and Democrats 47%
Yet of the 16 seats Republicans won 12 seats and Democrats won 4
So by drawing the lines in your favor 51% of the vote earns you 75% of the seats? Don't ever believe every vote counts that's just not true.
Yes it can be drawn in favor of the Democrats if they were in control o0f the Ohio House. I guess my question is was this how the founding fathers wanted or expected it to work?

At November 5, 2014 at 11:59 AM , Anonymous Anonymous said...

I haven't seen a figure on the percentages of voters that went either way but I do understand your point and it is entirely valid.
Like you, i have to question whether this was what the founding fathers wanted. Maybe it is but, I have a hard time believing that.
I look at the old "toilet seat" district or the way Ms Fudge's district is configured around Broadview Hts and I know that isn't what they envisioned.
BTW, BOTH parties are equally guilty of this so I blame them both.
I guess the thing the bothers me is that so many Representatives get re-elected to their job when they have done nothing to earn it. If you or I performed that poorly at our job, we would be shown the door very quickly.

I am a Democrat that did not vote for either party. The last time I didn't vote a straight Democratic ticket was when I voted for Reagan. This time I voted local issues, and I left it at that. I am well aware that it was the Republicans that financially crashed and burned our entire country in 2008, and I am wondering at this point if we will ever recover from it. Part of the reason we have not is because of the illegals -- just ask my son-in-law where his good construction job went -- but the Republicans wrecked us so well, that we still struggle today. I am also aware that it was Bush who got us into Iraq. It is the Democrats, however, that at this point in time, want to, and are, giving away our country to illegals and citizens of every country in the world. Bush wanted to legalize them also, but it is Obama now. He keeps telling the lie that he has a mandate after he was elected for the second time, and that the majority of Americans want amnesty. It is not true, and I think he just got bitch-slapped by a country who most of all want the illegals out and the borders secured. He's too incompetent, as are the Republicans, to even fix the anchor baby amendment. I voted for Obama knowing he was so prejudiced against white people that I thought it was shocking. He also went on to prove that was so true that he and Eric Holder blamed a white cop for shooting a black kid before the evidence was even in, and totally blamed a riot by the blacks on the whites. I used to think that at least Obama and the Democrats were better than the Republicans; now I think they're both scary. Let's at least hope the Republicans seal the borders, and get rid of the illegals as they trash everything else in the country. As far as Obama goes, I wrote him a letter a couple of months ago and told him exactly what was going to happen with this elections and why. Then I heard he was fast-tracking 100,000 Haitians into the country. I'm hoping the Republicans can save us from the illegals, and then when it is safe, we can elect Democrats to try to fix everything else that the Republicans wrecked except that. Presidents used to know that they needed to protect American interests first, just like the presidents do of every other country in the world. I never thought I would see the day that I was relieved to see the Republicans win.

5:59: I clearly said that I voted. And what does the GOP have to offer? Hopefully enough sense and intelligence to get all the illegals out, secure all of our borders, and stop all legal immigration until we can see what is left over and what the AMERICAN people want. Before they do that, which I doubt they will do ALL of that, but hopefully most of it, they will need to fix the field workers (only) temporary visas program so that it works for the farmers and the workers and our farmers will have the workers they need. They need to fix the anchor baby Trojan horse that we have going, so hopefully the GOP will be smart enough to fix that.

6:44: Any Democrat or Republican who is so blinded by party loyalty that they will follow their party no matter what is a scary person to have in the U.S. Any Democrats that are still sticking to party lines and wanting amnesty for all these illegals, are hopefully waking up right about now, and realizing that they need to go, and that Americans need to protect our country just like every other country does. Question: How many American illegals does Mexico allow in Mexico? Answer: None. If they want to save American, they need to break away from their party long enough to fight for and to see the illegals get out of this country and our borders sealed. All Democrats and Republicans that are against the illegals being in this country, need to speak up loud now and let the Republicans know that you back them on this issue, and let the Democrats know that you don't, so the Republicans will have the courage to do what needs to be done for America.

The solution to gerrymandering is simple. Make a rule that any single county can't be part of more than two districts, and each district can't contain partial portions of more than two counties. This will force the districts to include full counties, and potentially small parts of two others, if needed to make the population fit.

As for the minimum wage, just because states voted for it, doesn't mean Congress should take action. Leave it up to the states to decide. This was the original idea of federalism. If people want to live in a state with a high minimum wage, and thus higher costs for everything, then they can move there. If they don't, then they can move to a state without lower wages and a lower cost of living.

I sincerely doubt that Ben Franklin wanted Democrats to hang together and let our country be taken over and financially, ruined, etc., by illegals, way too much legal immigration and open borders. I can see it now...Democrats patting themselves on the backs in congratulations when they realize they fought for the right to ruin their country.

To 12:10, this is 7:12. No, I won't be removing any illegals myself because I, unlike them, do not break the law, and that was a very dumb comment to make, as was what...?... I won't remove any myself because I am afraid? Another dumb comment. And you have no idea what I do or do not do in public. Really, no idea at all. If you're so eager to give them this country, then why don't you give them everything that YOU own first. That would be a good place to start, and I wouldn't mind that a bit.

We have had two amnesties already. Each one was supposed to stop the illegal problem, but what they did was get us into the mess we have now. Anyone who does not know that, or see that, should go back and do some research on the subject. Each one was supposed to be the end of the problem. After each amnesty, the borders were supposed to be guarded, and no more illegals would ever be allowed in again. It didn't work then, and it won't work now.

For anyone who is not actively fighting, it is probably now or never, as this all seems to be starting to go down now. Americans stood up and stopped George W. Bush from legalizing them, so this time we need to stop the legalization, AND get them out of the country. If your voice is not being heard, please don't leave the job to someone else, as we need all of us, so please speak out now.

Just out of curiosity have you found any elected official willing to help you rid these people going house to house?
In a strange way I guess it's good for you to have this site to vent.
8:35 Yes there will be many Libs that are going to act like little crybabies the way the GOP has done in the past. Me? I've been around. I know how this will work out. First let's face it the GOP always over reaches without fail. Soon we will hear all kind's of mandates they received Tuesday, A flat tax, entitlement reform, climate change hoax, defense budget, birth control. A tax plan that puts more money in the pockets of the Romneys and Trumps and less for the rest of us.
Also listen the Tea Party believes they are responsible for the victory and at the same time the Establishment believe they are a reason. Mitch's promise of no government shutdown it will also be in the 90's Christmas week. Many senators jockeying to be a candidate for President plus a few Governors also in the mix. I expect a circular firing squad in early March if not sooner.
add to the misery of 9:27 because the Mexicans are still present in her neighborhood will add to the disgust many Americans don't realize you need 60 votes to pass something in the Senate and 67 to override a Presidential veto. I recently was told a Semi loaded with pens was seen at the White House. Enjoy your victory, me I'll just grab a bag of popcorn and watch the implosion.
Which is sad because many people on the right and left really want the government to work. I wonder who doesn't?

Fun fact 60,000 Hispanic Americans reach 18 years old every month in America. Please someone pry 9:27 off the ceiling!

Republican leadership (at least the smart ones) on the national level have a huge dilemma on their hands. They know that demographics are changing, and that they need to appeal to minority voters, especially Latinos, if they want to maintain an even chance of winning future presidential elections. They know that in order to do this, it will take action via meaningful legislation, and not the usual empty platitudes about religion, family, etc. They also know, however, that a large section of their base, who won't be relevant in 20-30 years, but are now, will most likely make them pay at the ballot box, allowing bigotry and prejudice to blind any vision of a viable, healthy long-term future as a party. Then again, they could be unwittingly helped by Democratic politicians, some of whom already show signs of taking the Latino vote for granted, as they have with African-Americans.

Term 9:53, this is 9:27. No, I guess you don't know the difference between fighting and bitching, since you have done everything in your power to badmouth the people in this town that fight, while other people were/are fighting to preserve our town and country. And nobody needs to go door to door to get them out. First of all, someone needs to tell them to go, then start e-verify throughout the country so if they aren't legal, they can't work. That will put a big dent in them, and then we can take it from there. We might actually be able to tell who is in our country after that. You keep saying absurd things when you have no good argument. And yes, I know that approximately 50,000 Hispanics in this country turn 18 years old every month and become eligible to vote, as I said that myself in a previous post here.

4:42, it's not bigotry and prejudice to protect our country from what probably is 40 million people who are here illegally; it's our duty. Just because about 20 million of them are Hispanic is not the fault of anyone in the United States of America who is fighting this invasion.

4:42 here,

12:03, who says that it's our "duty" to go after illegal immigrants? I don't recall reading this in the Constitution or United States Code, so this appears to be due to the overactive imaginations of you and those of your ilk. The problem is, when your type get overzealous while acting out your desire to deputize yourselves as Border Patrol agents, bigotry and irrational hatred takes over, and you lump every Latino in the U.S. together while performing your "duty". This includes Latinos from families who have had multiple generations born in this country; you may deny this, but I've heard and read enough examples of discrimination against native-born Latinos to know that this goes on. Because this happens, don't think that the Latinos who vote aren't filing this away in their minds, and wouldn't dare recall it when members of a certain political party come to them begging for votes. Finally, I'd like to know one thing: when your group complains about illegals taking jobs and undercutting wages, why do you only complain about the illegals, instead of going after the people who hire them? I have relatives in the drywall business, and they have told me stories about Mexican immigrants taking jobs from them; however, they know that the culprits aren't the workers, but the contractors who know that they can offer lower wages to the Mexicans, who are desperate enough to accept. Why isn't it your "duty" to go after the contractors? Or is that a horse of a different "color"?

9:34. Yes, someone needs to go after the employers, but apparently not YOU. YOU said you knew who some of the employers of the illegals were here in town, but you refused to do anything about it, but you are still slamming other people for not going after them based on your word only. I also don't think the problem will ever be solved completely at the border. They need to know they will not be able to stay, and they will be caught and prosecuted. It's the only way to stop it. Obama is now setting up stations in Central America so they can all sign up to come here right from there. That way nobody will notice a rush at the border, because it will be happening elsewhere. Republicans are the only hope for anything reasonable to happen concerning this invasion of our country at this point in time, and I hope they come through.

10:38. Spoken like a true Hispanic. Can't be your fault, or the illegals fault for breaking our laws. Must be someone else's. And you are probably one of the ones out in our streets demanding rights from a government that you have no right to. Even if you are legal, you have no right to demand anything for people who are here illegally. I also don't think it's the fault of any American if they paint all Hispanics with one stroke now. If Americans were doing this to another country, I'd be pretty sure that people would start seeing Americans as a problem, and not just a reasonable number who immigrated legally. And by the way, 10:38, it is the LAW that illegals cannot be here. Oh, but you must be Hispanic, so the law doesn't pertain to you and your "ilk." And as a typical Hispanic, you are threatening our politicians with your vote if they do not break the law for your people. Are you one of the Hispanics who are disrespectfully interrupting the speeches and lunches of our politicians demanding rights for people who have no right to be here? No wonder many American people no longer have respect for Hispanic people. They are mouthy, demanding, law-breakers who think they are entitled to our country. It's the LAW - look it up. Little question here...how many illegal Americans are allowed in Mexico? Answer: None.

9:43. Again, your post makes no sense. You have no good argument so you talk nonsense. So just a few little points. LOOK IT UP. He has set up places (or is in the process of) in Central America, where people and the children can go, and be granted entry into the US right from there. That way no one will see a problem at the border, and all will be unaware of what is happening. And by the way, I received that information from hearing Obama speak, and then read all about it in news clips. And just as a small aside, I am a Democrat.

And yes, I remember well how you refused to do anything about those businesses yourself. Didn't even make a phone call, did you? You said you knew business in town that were hiring illegals, and you are still slamming other people for not picketing those businesses based on your word only, but you, yourself, did nothing.

9:43. Maybe YOU should get informed before you talk. President Obama said himself (and I personally heard him say it), that he is setting up places in Central America so that people can sign up there to come here. He's doing it so they don't have to make a journey, and so that kids don't have to make the dangerous journey themselves. So now they can all come, and Americans will be none the wiser, because we won't see anything at the border. We'll probably fly them all here using first class, and it will, of course, all be paid for by hard-working Americans, now, and for the rest of their lives, and for all their offspring, and for all their extended families, too. We'll probably have all of Central America here before his term is up. And you, Term, think it's all so funny. Yep, yuck it up.

Term 7:56. There are multiple people on this board who dispute what you about the illegals, but you always attribute it to one person. I am 8:34, so I'll take this one. I check back here so that when you say absurd things like we can't get the illegals out because we would have to go door to door to find them, that there is someone around to say how ridiculous that is. Hopefully there are more and more Democrats like me, and not like you, who don't think that it's a joke that we're losing our country. You have all but said na-na-na-na-na, because you don't care if we lose our country, as long as YOU win. And you actually get giddy and downright hysterical about it.

For 7:53. I think you are Hispanic, but even if you are not, you exhibit the very same disdain for white Americans and clearly think you are far superior to them, as the Hispanics do. Also your sense of entitlement to the United States of America is the same. And your use of the race-card is very good. Typical. But it's smart, because it has gotten the Hispanics far. For decades, whenever anyone speaks up, they scream racism, and all the nice white people shut-up, and let them continue to take over our country, because they don't want to be called a racist. I'm not one of those people, so you can call me racist and a bigot all you want, and I will still, as an American who has pledged allegiance to this country, fight against this invasion.

OH and yes there are other countries that paint Americans with one brush - the Middle East terrorists. They think we are all the same here, they hate all of us.

What I was against was the leader of HOLA and the methods she used to make her point. She used little Hispanic kids, demonstrated without permits, brought speakers to Veterans Park preaching this was their land and they were coming to take it back. Hardy what the audience wanted. A job and a better way of life for their families.
I have always been for a secure border and after 9/11 I thought that would become a reality, it wasn't. Who again was in charge?
In hindsight I was first overwhelmed with the numbers as mentioned before a very prominent Republican went on FOXNEWS welcoming illegals as well as legal to come to Painesville well they did. Maybe we should picket her house? As most of you by now have guest I never had intentions or desire to lead group.
Plus to those who know me I would never associate with some of the commenters we have here on the blog. 12:42 5:48, 3:35,8:34, 3:12 I don't know if it's 1 or 100 they add nothing to solving this immigration problem, Plus I see hate, and racism in some of the comments and wouldn't want any part of that.
In the end will the above mentioned solve the problem or add to it?

How many American lives have been lost defending our land and liberty in the last 25 years or so since this invasion began on our home soil? We have lost thousands of brave soldiers, and many others seriously hurt. Yet, at home, all the citizens and all the politicians sit by while we lose our country to illegals. We haven't even stopped the anchor baby wholesale giveaway of our country.

4:13, you still just lie whenever you need or want to. Right down to you don't even know who the friend is that you worked with on all that craziness. Whatever, this isn't really about you. Hopefully most people that know you know the truth.

One recent thing that really stands out in your 4:13 post is that you discount what the Hispanics were saying, as if they didn't know what they were saying and, instead, you interpret it to be what YOU wanted them to be saying. When that guy was saying that it was their land, and they were coming back to reclaim it, he was saying what they all feel, but are usually smart enough not to say in front of white Americans. The largest and most prestigious Hispanic organization, NALEO, counts every Hispanic/Latino that is in any position of power in this country, either elected or appointed. They previously had the numbers and info right on their website. I don't know if they still do, because as White Americans became aware of the counting, they went into more of a stealth operation, but they are still very clear about taking over our positions of leadership in this country, and they all know it what they are doing, and why they are doing it. They threaten our politicians on national TV with their votes if they do not legalize them. You even discount that that whole crowd cheered, because I was there and saw it. So you interpret that to be no, they didn't really mean that, they are just nice people here to work. Look again, because they almost have our country, and people like you are still saying they are just nice people here to work. Not to mention the probably 20+ million from other countries that are here, too. You also completely discount and ignore the vicious hate spewing from the Hispanic who wrote the 7:53 post, along with another one. But you go right after the Americans who are not spewing hate, but do want the illegal people out of our country. It is people like you who are dangerous to this country, and are not only watching it go down, but helping it. That's why I personally check in on this blog to see what you are currently saying about the illegals. Oh, but that's right...they don't really mean what they are saying and doing, but you can speak for them.

We really all need to be united with the illegal problem. I have traveled to Mexico numerous times. What I see happening around me looks like what I saw in Mexico. I'm sorry but I do not want my town or my country to become the next united states of mexico. We need to get out, get mad, be heard and not let this happen. Or move to Canada. I'm so tired of being called a racist over this NO, illegal is breaking the law. Why shouldn't I be able to rob a bank and get away with it - I CAN'T and neither should they be allowed here illegally.
