"IN MY TIME OF DYING" led zeppelin

At last Monday's council meeting council voted NO to the city manager looking into selling our two cemeteries. This is not a reflexion on our city manager judgment only I believe the wishes of the council as well as residents that the cemeteries should stay in the possession of the city no matter what. Councilman Fodor expressed most people's views. After the meeting I asked councilman Flock why he voted yes for the city manager to take inquires of selling the two cemeteries? He explained that this was not a vote to sell them but only to gather information on what the city manager  could find out. He reminded me that council had asked the CM to find ways to cut costs, and after asking him to do that vote no to his idea?

What about the city owning the cemeteries and leasing out complete operation to a private contractor. Maybe a five year contract with the city just appraising the situation. Making sure all facets of the contract all followed, with no involvement of any city department. From selling plots to opening them, to all cemetery  operations  under the watchful eye of the city. Why do I suggest this? I guess it's safe to assume the present way the cemeteries are operated is costing a $250,000-$300,00 year drag on the city's general fund. Is the high figure due to high city cost's in city labor and management?  In private businesses when a certain procedure becomes no longer cost effective it is source of outsourcing.  An example is say the hospital when laundry service got to expensive it was outsourced. In the public sector an example is rubbish removal that was outsourced, a comment here the contract has to benefit residents and the city. Not let ONE person sign the contract as per Painesville a vote by council should decide all contracts.

I don't see council acting on this there just nice people who want to be liked by all. If it costs the city an extra $75,000 or more doing it the way it done now... so be it. There will always be an excuse.  Keep replacing wheels and mufflers it's your civic duty.Need proof ? What exactly are those people doing at the power plant  besides well you decide.

Than again a city representative could comment no one buried there has complained.

I'd like to hear what others believe is the best way to deal with this situation.

I have thought of this a bit.
When you bury your loved ones in the city cemetery, what is there in the way of a contract with those who bought the plots?

If the cemetery is sold, do those agreements transfer as condition of the sale?

I want my community to take care of the graves of our families, not some entity trying to make a buck for its stock holders.

This makes a good case for cremation. Your still in a box, a small one, and your family has control forever.

10:56 You are right this is not to sell or lose control over the cemeteries. This lease idea keeps the city with ownership as well as control.
I realize you want the community to take care of the graves but if a contractor maintained the cemeteries at even a higher level would you still oppose it?

My only fear is that somehow a future CM or council could screw up th

And pray tell what will they be doing Tuesday or what did they do last Monday?
How would anyone know they practically have the whole town closed. N
Now I'm not talking about the people working the linesmen only the people in that big red building on Richmond St. You know the one that's silent.
Hey, we got money to burn don't we?

Yes let the city run things. Have you been downtown recently?
Streetscape has become Can'tescape what a farce. I will be interesting which idiots take credit for this blunder. Why is Main St. so narrow now.
So this is the plan to revitalize downtown?

Went to the downtown Painesville facebook page. They have a photo gallery and to view the photo's on the site you would believe Painesville is 99% white? Very few blacks or mexicans. I guess they see things differently then many of us do?

Of course they see things different, smart people know better. And that's why no one wants to move here and cant sell their homes to get out of here. But alas, Little Mehico made the front page of the paper last week. Painesville could be the next Little Italy only Little Tijuana. Folks, lets not let this happen here.

"Can'tescape"! Funny but true.

It didn't make sense before and it makes less sense now. This is an example of a Council that gets lead around rather than one that thinks for itself.

Narrow streets, no real parking, and roads that get closed for indeterminate amounts of time.

Yeah, what could go wrong?

How the hell do we allow this? Call your council people and raise hell! Over priced, over blown, over hyped...... And over it!
