"ANTICIPATION" caryl simmons

Yes I view this coming week with anticipation.  Soon within less than a week Painesville will be welcoming a new city manager and school superintendent.

I have taken stock in Painesville and I will list what I view as positives of Painesville and hope these two new leaders realize them. Latter we can acknowledge  Painesville's minuses.

We compare Painesville to Ashtabula, Geauga, and the rest of Lake County.
We are the only city that provides electric, water, and sewer's to it's community.
We are the only city that has annexed it's size to almost double the area.
We have well established safety forces.
We have room for new and also old business growth.
We have historic Rider's Inn as well as soon Steele Mansion.
We have a great Library. { Well at least I love it there)
We are the only city that has a four year College in it.
We as a community that has built five state-of-the-art schools to educate our young.
We along with the schools have passed the last two operating levies to our schools.
We soon will have a new $362,000 sewer-jet truck as well as one big-ass 23 year-old fire truck. With no current knowledge of miles or hours on it. I did find out from Boardman the engine was re-built three years ago?
We  are experts on the  best way to put lipstick and a wig on a pig!
We have a group of 'Mover's & Shakers' up to the task (can't get enough of that phrase, sorry)
Who else can compare to this list?

Many of you can add to this list.

I guess as I look around a person could think this is an ideal place to settle down and raise a family.

What's happened? Why isn't it? Maybe Mr. Carson and Mr. Shepard have the answers?

If I was writing this article ten year's ago I could add so much more.
Fasson  Headquarter's
The Lake East Hospital, just to name afew.

Both of these gentlemen have an important job to do, a person mentioned how worse can they be? Please  let's hope that these two have that vision. It seems the last two didn't. Or atleast never bothered to explain it.

Do tell, how so?
Kind of a pointless post if you don't tell us why you feel that way.

So while you were conversing with Boardman, why didn't you get the mileage? Must not really be as big of an issue as you are making it if you didn't ask that too?
Why do you make such a big to-do over lame problems? Aren't there bigger fish to chase?

If you knew the answer what was the secrecy for? You could have told your buddy to.

Little Fish was the first one to ask me.
If Andy would have asked I would have told him. He doesn't tell me everything and either do I.
Wonder how many months go by before he get's his answer?
Second bit of info this does come from Concord. Engine was rebuilt 3 years ago.
Next bit of info Council better read the contract with Concord very carefully. It seems by signing it we might just be obligated to go 50/50 on a new truck in a few years, that may end up being parked in a station in Concord. I believe council is in the mind that this is a one time deal? Haven't we learned enough about long term deals?

What I'm waiting in anticipation for is Painesville Police to come down on the drug sales on the 100 block of Jefferson St. Between Kerr and First St.
Theres more traffic jams there than anywhere in town.

Maybe it's a really-big truck and P-Ville doesn't have proper parking for it. All the talk about money, budgets, and the lack thereof - the police and fire departments are the most deserving of our tax money. Public safety should be #1. Of course I believe in open books and they should account for how each dollar is spent. Just saying - I would dig a little deeper in my budget to support the safety forces. Our police and fire departments should have the best of everything.

Maybe it's someone taking advantage of us AGAIN?
Safety is number 1, but when you ask for money the public should know exactly what its going for. A question was asked at the last council meeting. 'If this safety levy passed would Painesville start doing it's own dispatching again?' The answer was hardly reassuring one way or the other. As a resident shouldn't you know this before you vote?
I guess replacing a 22 year-old truck with a 23 year-old truck somehow doesn't seem to be the best solution. Council should read that contract very carefully.
2:15 Thanks for the heads-up.

If anyone is being taken advantage of it would be the fire department. They are treated like a red-headed step child next to the police. Compare what one has to the other, you'll see.
So if you had the answer to the mileage on that truck why did you make such a big stink about it in the first place. You got your answer-that was easy. Why such a concern about sharing the truck too? You are always pushing regionalization, this may be a step in your direction for it.

Why wasn't the city answering? One word transparency. As a resident you shouldn't be relying this Blog. for information.
Red-Headed step child? I bet I could get another side from other departments?
Again I had the mileage. Why was I the only one? (at least to report it)
How long do you believe Painesville, Painesville Twp , Concord Twp. Fairport Harbor and Grand River all will be able to support the overhead of five duplicate systems?

GOOD POINT TERM POST 6:18 THE WORD REGIONALIZATION, SHOULD BE #1, IN THE NEW BUDGET. Remember labor cost, is very very very expensive. Sharing equipment, is a start, however it is only a start in cost savings.

9:32 Sharing equipment is a start. Again it must be done right. You need to have more than a twenty minute discussion.
Labor cost are the budget.

How do you know how many minutes have been logged in a discussion if you aren't there? 20 minutes? That may have been in a council meeting but there have been talks for years and years about sharing equipment, manpower and calls. You have no clue about what people speak about at other meetings beside a city council meeting or others open to the public. If you don't know what you are talking about you shouldn't speak about it let alone put it into print.

Hmm, something tells me that DUH 2 is a City employee or someone "in the know".

There might have been more than 20 minutes spent in various discussion BUT those were not at the Council meeting where the decision to purchase was actually made. I was there and 20 minutes was about all it took.

BTW, were the Council members who voted at any of the other meetings? If the were they must have been asleep because the questions asked in the Council meeting sure didn't indicate that they knew very much about it.

What was discussed was that no one in the room knew the mileage or hours on the truck. We also learned that the truck was 22 or 23 years old while the recommended replacement interval is 20 years. We are half owners of a truck whose life expectancy is already used up.

Is the purpose of "rationalism" to buy equipment that is past it's life time? If so, then it must be working.

2:01 The "rationalism" is in the contract.

The WORD regionalization should be added to a ammendment to the contract. Concord has 60 Firemen MAY-BE we could share labor duties. What does council members say. { let us here know please. } BEFORE THE ELECTION.

That "rationalism" in my post was supposed to be "regionalism".

2:01, not a city employee but a concerned citizen that is in the know. I pay attention to the news, papers, council meetings whether in person or view it later. I do a lot more than some of the people that post their uninformed opinions and thoughts here.
