"HIT THE ROAD JACK" ray charles

Full house at Painesville School Board Meeting. Seems odd the only thing able to bring out a crowd is a crisis. Even FOX8 NEWS showed up.

First off David Klingenberg turned in his resignation. One board member voted to terminate him. His resignation was approved by the BOE.

A David Klingenberg sold a home on  Big Rock Dr. in Painesville Township according to Friday's News-Herald.

During the visitor time of the meeting a resident asked for the resignation of Dr. Hanlon? This person claimed it was not due to this latest crisis, but the overall performance of the district. First off there is no way he will resign and I don't see the BOE firing him presently. I keep my thoughts to myself but after hearing a conversation in the parking lot I don't believe this request was due to the low test scores in the district or the latest  crisis? This request over school performance could have been made anytime over the last five years. why tonight?

I never though I would say this but the asking for resignation of Dr. Hanlon seem's a little premature. I would rather wait and see how this whole investigation shakes out before anyone ask for that.

My remark which wasn't appreciated at the meeting that firing Dr. Hanlon right now won't solve anything. That firing thinking ranks up  there with if we build all new school building test score will dramatically improve.

I will end this post on a very positive note.

Ms. Wendy Camper made a presentation on a new innovated teaching method she is using a Elm St. Elementary. Her 5th grade class consists of 24 boys only boys, they have specific rules and standards. She has Tie Tuesday, school service with helping Kindergarten students at lunch. She is teaching young men to take pride in themselves and learning how to gain respect from others. I do not know this teacher but something tells me the system is loaded with great idea teachers.
She even has a Blog.
I will call the school and post the site here.

Term,

What you heard in the parking lot was citizens finally taking a stand and this latest issue was the tipping point. What selective hearing you have. People finally stepped up and it's still not good enough for you.

The person who asked for Hanlon's resignation should be congratulated for her courage. When you stand up and ask for the city managers job it's ok but when someone else does it they don't know what their talking about.

Who made you GOD....

Term, now you say don't fire Hanlon.premature. Maybe for this incident but there is a whole career worth of reasons. Why your change of heart? What are you getting out of this. This waffle makes me doubt your motive in your other stances. just sayin. There's something going on here.

I have to commend Steve for wanting the assistant principal fired. The State needs to be contacted and made ware of the problems and ask for an investigation. The other teacher has ended up selling cars at Honda of Mentor. Maybe they have a position for this person. Has this principal even apologize for what he has done to our school system? In Mentor when one of their teachers had an inappropriate relationship with a student she ended up in jail. What's up here in Painesville?

The Painesville City Local School District accepted the resignation of Harvey High School Assistant Principal David Klingenberg on Monday night.

The resignation, effective immediately, comes as the result of the district realization that Klingenberg had been under police investigation since May of last year.

The board voted 4-1 to accept the resignation, while board member Steve Costell stated that his vote of “no” represented his desire to terminate Klingenberg rather than allowing him to resign.

Klingenberg was placed on paid administrative leave Aug. 30, the day after the district learned of the police investigation.

Superintendent Michael P. Hanlon said in a previous media release that Painesville Police and the district are investigating whether Klingenberg “violated the policy we have in place regarding the maintenance of proper boundaries with our students.”

Hanlon issued a written statement after the meeting but would not comment further on the decision to approve Klingenberg’s resignation instead of opting for termination.

“Nothing is more important than the safety and security of the students in our care. We will not tolerate behavior that jeopardizes the trust the community and our students place in us. We continue to cooperate with the police on their investigation of this,” Hanlon said in the statement.

Specific details of what type of misconduct may have taken place have not been released.

The News-Herald submitted a public records request for Klingenberg’s personnel file, which has not yet been provided by the district.

Several community members also spoke at the meeting, which had few empty seats.

6:28 People stepping up by the community it's about time and for the good. The question is how many will show up next month? Here's why this is premature? I want everything brought into the light everything. Here's a news flash he wasn't going to resign last night.
I might have selective hearing but I did hear the remarks made in the parking lot. That doesn't make those remarks right do they?
My motive is to go by the book. If heads will roll it will be everyones head. Who knew what and when and why did they stay silent?
I'm waiting for facts.

Term 5:40 I understand that you want all facts to come to light. I do as well. However, I didn't see anything wrong with asking for Hanlon's resignation. Of course he wasn't going to resign! I believe like Mr. Costell's vote it was a symbollic gesture to show the board we want some transparency as well as some accountability. I do believe "heads will roll" when everything comes to light. Dr. Hanlon may be able to claim ignorance when it comes to the police investigation but I believe he knew about the community's concerns regarding Klingenberg.

On a side note, I will admit that yesterday was my first council meeting and as a parent in this district I have no excuse for that. Going forward, I will definitely attend more council meetings and try to become a voice in the community.

10:07 Many informative things are discussed at the BOE meeting. Just think how the board as well as the administration will do business with 25 or more people in the audience?
General feeling are if no one comes everyone must be satisfied?
Steve was a very positive addition to the board, and I like his reasoning.
Yes there was nothing wrong with asking for Dr. Hanlon's resignation. I just knew it wouldn't happen. It's out there now
I have always believed one of Dr. Hanlon's greatest faults was that he viewed himself as the "Rug Doctor" Well time has come. No more rugs.
Wait until it ALL comes out.

2:19 Really? Do I have to explain that to you? Think about it.
6:28 I have never attended any council, or board meeting asking for anyone resignation.
I may have made my feelings known here on the Blog. But that's it.
When all the information is released and we know the what, where and when and everybody who knew I might be asking for his resignation also. I want all the facts. Who else knew of something and buried facts or just stayed quiet?
One question that really bothers me is how could the administration not know of the police investigation? What if a party didn't trust the administration and took the concerns directly to the police?

I believe the African American population is there because we are fed up. Your socioeconomic status should not dictate your quality of education. Painesville does not look for the best candidate, but the cheapest. The entire administration at the high school is unqualified. The positions require masters degrees and they don't have theirs. It's in progress. I could understand one, but everyone but the principal only holds a bachelors. And as of yesterday. The building substitute who is a gym teacher from Lamuth equip was laid off, is in Klingenbergs role in the interim, and he has no prior experience. You would think that with everything going on, they would attempt to get some experienced people who are not in the middle of the situation in there. Kinda feel sorry for the new principal. He has his hands full. Our entire school system is in a state of diaorganization and turmoil. The bad thing is that we may lose another administrator at the high school as everything unfolds. The children are speaking, both current and past and to be honest it sickened me to my view the way these individuals conducted themselves.

Dave Klingenberg was a wonderful teacher and an even better administrator. Shame on all of you for jumping to conclusions before you know the facts. From what I can tell, nobody even knows what this is all about... you all are jumping on the witch hunt wagon. He was an advocate for our immigrant population; lobbying for justice on their behalf. He was a friend to everyone he worked with and would go to no ends if someone was in need. Harvey is loosing a great asset...

This is only speculation, but...

Maybe the African American Community was there because:

- Kaleb Coffee transferred to Maple as a high school free agent, along with a Head Coach, an Assistant Coach and a couple of draft picks to be named later.
- When the OHSAA asked both the AP and hanlon if the move was athletically motivated, they had to tell the truth.
- Pastor Coffee and his congregation were not happy about this, so it was time to take action.
- Pastor Coffee has a relative do his speaking for him at the BOE meeting, asking for Hanlon's resignation.
- He can't speak himself because he is no longer a resident since he had to legally move to Maple to make the transfer "legit".
- Usually the OHSAA considers moves legitimate if the guardian has a change of work place.

Still waiting for FACTS also.

Term, why wouldn't/shouldn't the board fire Hanlon? What allegiance
does he have to this district? How many times did he apply for other superintendents jobs before? That speaks volumes there.
AND, of course there is a large number of black people. What are the percentages in this district?
I would like to know where to find these numbers, of all the students, black, Hispanic, Asian, Caucasian, etc.

2:51 While I agree with the tone of your comment, I don't believe now is the time to pick a fight with every administrator at Harvey. If we do that who will run the school?
We can't fall victim to criticizing the present administration without offering solutions. I believe we all can agree that we have the right person for the job in Mr. McWreath. Let's allow him time to take control of things as they are now, before we "change the game" on him.
In the Navy, the captain is ultimately responsible for everything that happens on his ship. When all is said and done "Captain" Hanlon will find himself without a ship or port!

I have faith that the present culture of deceit, indifference, and neglect will soon be coming to an end. I hope you do too.

Myself I'm just alittle disappointed in a coach accepting a job and resigning from it to participate in a better program. If you think about many coaches
at all levels have and still do this. I guess I used to the Beelers, Skullins and even as far back as the Britts and Wetzels that stayed with one program the whole time.
Its a different world today.
I wish Kaleb Coffee all the sucess He can attain.

The inappropriate behavior was with more than one child. They were of different races. Yes McWreath is doing a great job, but he has to do it by himself. Every administrator under him at Harvey has zero experience. Let's hope he does not tuck tail and leave from the stress. There is no plan to replace any of the inexperienced individuals. They come cheaper that someone who is experienced. Behavior may change at Harvey, but don't expect miracles because of a new principal. Remember he has a boss who provides direction that he had to follow. A bad report card for the schools does not look good on Hanlon's resume.

Good luck asking the board for public records. I needed just a little info so I contacted the secretary at the BOE by sending an email request, I was questioned about it, answered questions, repeated request, was told I did not need that information. I replied I did, asked again and was told again I did not need the information for the project I was working on. I'm not sure they are aware that by not following such request they can be charged with violating such request and can be charged a hefty, daily fine.
Next time I need something, I won't be so patient or nice.

I just wish all the people hand picked by Klingenberg were not in the positions they are because they are friends of his...I am questioning his ability to make wise choices. As far as helping the Latino immigrants...he was helping himself to their daughters and intimidating them with fear of deportation. It is really unwise to have 3 caucasion men in charge at the high school and saying but we have guidance counselors that are women just doesn't cut it in my book. The administration should mirror the population that it serves. Just saying... How will we get a levy to pass with all this turmoil? Who is in charge of all the hiring? Who does Klingenberg's evaluations? I can not fathom that Martin or DeAngelis had no idea of what was going on in Klingenberg's office. Shame on him! He should have been placed on unpaid leave or forced to use his sick days!

We all choose to live in this diverse community. If we want to change what this city and school system has become we have to stick together as one.

Leaders...Lead no mater the color of their skin. Let's not make race an issue because it is not.

The issue is we have a leader (Hanlon) who is not much of a leader. He has ruined our schools!!!

What do you tell your children 10 20 years from now? Your a falure in life because of a guy named Hanlon? I don't think that's to comforting.
You would rather tell them you are a success in life in spite of....

I did chose to live in Painesville, the town I grew up in and then bought a home here, NEVER in my wildest dreams would I think I'd see this town in such a mess. I blame the illegals, the authorities both local and feds for not coming up with a way to send them back, the schools and churches for harboring them.
Way back when, Harvey had a bad reputation and nothing has ever been done to change that.

It would be a good start. Think about all the added expense this caused because they refuse to assimilate. Extra teachers, aides, ELL programs, OTELA testing, $$$ it all adds up and we can do with out it. They CAN speak English they CHOOSE not to. Even more so if they get in trouble, HUH? No comprendo. Very convenient at times and so easy to blame all the bad teachers when it fact it's the kids. If my kid needed to know his colors, ABC's, how to count... They should know how to speak English upon entering kindergarten.
Of course if our government would get moving and make it the official language before Spanish takes it first. THat would solve a few problems wouldn't it?

Yes to 2:35 as far as English needs to be deemed the official language in The United States of America. Now we have celebrities feeling free to speak Spanish in public settings, we have people in our governments speaking Spanish in speeches IN AMERICA. We are starting to see Spanish in commercials and, of course, Spanish is now on all our packaging and we must press 1 for English on our phones. How frightening that our elected officials have not even accomplished THAT, let alone the anchor baby nonsense. And the American people seem more apathetic all the time. Hardly anyone is even fighting this takeover anymore. We are very stupid people.
